Boss Selection

Selection for most will be a fragrance that’s hard to love but even harder to hate however will fall into the lukewarm like category!! It opens up smelling orangey,slightly powdery, and fresh !! To my nose it smells like an orange scented fabric sheet. As this dries down the orange moves to the background and the scent gets less fresh and more powdery and warm !! It seems that Selection borrows many nuances from many different fragrance genres of the late 90s and early 2000s and tries to combine them into 1 fragrance and although this isn’t the most striking scent I do say it’s well blended and has accomplished that !! Scents this smell similar to are Mont Blanc Individual,Pi Neo,Armani Code and Givenchy Pi and Blue Label. Also the scent it’s most similar to is Mont Blanc Individual so if you’re familiar with that scent ... take Individual,lessen the sweetness,freshen it up and replace the raspberry note with orange and bam!!! You have Selection !! I personally love this scents simplicity and warm appeal as I find it very cozy and comforting!! Which makes this perfect for work or occasions you don’t want to have a loud fragrance but want to smell good ! Performance has been great in the longevity department but this never really projects loudly but again is noticeable up close !! It lasts me 8-10 hours. Overall rating -8 out of 10 !!! One of my new fave daily driver scents got work and everyday use Sidenote//This has received very good feedback but only in close encounters. If it projected louder I imagine this could be one of my most complimented but I like that a scent of this profile has moderate to light projection 🙏

It's an unlikely fragrance for a first review, but somehow it's a scent very well suited to the weather at the moment - gloomy, chilly and windy. While to my nose it initially promises to be far warmer scent than it actually is, it is not disappointing whatsoever. I remember sampling it one I came out, and all I got out of it was the star anise which was a complete no - no back in the day for me. I have since started to appreciate it, yet it could still be a hit and miss, so I'm always wary of any fragrance containing it as an ingredient. Surprisingly, what I go out of it was warm citrus that doesn't feel cloying or one dimensional, but rather subtle and refined, hence the description which this scent fits perfectly. The longevity, however, might be a bit of a let down, but for the crowd like myself, keen on subtle scent, this one is a winner. 7/10

This is a really good fragrance for the heat and you can get away with wearing it in the cold as well. Its incredible how versatile this scent is, if you could only have the one and you're a man this is what i would recommend you buy this. Its strong and lasts you don't need to spray much of it and it will stay strong until you wash your clothes. I like the way citrus smells a lot but i find that a lot of citrus themed cologne and perfume is way too sweet, Boss selection doesn't have that issue as a result of the pepper which frames the citrus really well. My one negative about this scent is that its got a stupid name and can be hard to find, some bottle sizes don't have the word selection on them but luckily its distinct enough that you will be able to find it by smell. Highly recommend for all men.

Why is it that a lot of people expecting fragrance that scream for you before you even speak? I love Hugo Boss Selection, it is for me a perfected scent for business. Fresh scent, easy to wear, easy to like. I don't use Selection daily since it has serious and fresh nuance. I only use it if I need to give consultation to boost fresh problem-solving tone I want to presence. It works like a charm since people usually calmer after I shake their hands and within Selection projection. I don't offend them with beast mode projection and they let me have my time talking. I always keep 1 bottle of Selection in my collection so I'm prepared. Note: for daily office, I use CK Man (similar tone with sweeter nutmeg heart tone) or Avicenna Prestige Essentials (sweet woody heart and based tone)

Hugo Boss Selection :) Boss selection is my first and favourite fragrance from Hugo boss. Having tried it out at Boots builds up my appreciation on what other say about a scent being "elegantly fresh and clean". Based on the commercial and its high-quality juice, I could not agree more to vote Hugo Boss Selection for office and formal use. Sillage is about right not to alarm others. Longevity is second to none. All in all. 10/10 for me.

i always love this since high school, i already use 7 bottles of this tho (LOL) i'm 22 yo, idk if this perfume is too old for me or not, but i like it. the price is moderate here in Indonesia (IDR 600k = USD 42) this smells clean, nice, and safe for every time every occasions (IMHO) and my gf always love it on me.

This version of boss is so very alike Marks&Spencer Autograph Sport, gentleman's value for money fragrance. The notes is so similar that I got deodorant spray just to use after shower. But I have no complaint at all, it is a very nice scent to use daily and very easy going. I have to add a remark, scoring 7/10

Soft, elegant, balanced. This fragrance is pure nostalgia, I used this everyday during 9th grade. Now my 100ml bottle only has 5ml left. Do not forget how cheap it is, sure not the most exciting fragrance, but it executes its job with precision.

I must say, I've grown much more fond of this. It's basically white musk with citrus and anise. But it's so well blended and the overall impression is really nice. Performance is a good EDT strength. Very versatile and very pleasant.

A soft musky citrus and woody fragrance. Reminds me of Moschino Uomo? Good projection and staying power. Pleasant to wear anytime, however, I think it lacks character somehow. But it's OK and easy to wear in most situations.

Simple, versatile but at the same time confident and masculine scent. It's great for sigma male guys who don't bother to prove anything to others. It is best to wear this at a office or school.

In my opinion, this is the best boss perfume! The performance is not great, but it smells heavenly! Got me a lot of compliments, too. I think if they made an EDP version, it would be amazing.

I always love the basenotes of my collections. But when i got this masculine perfume. I hate the soft basenotes but love the Top Notes. It sweet and truly chick magnet

Blind bought this at a Ross, I’m a huge fan of any anise in fragrances extremely surprised with this one!!

Indeed as previous reviewers have pointed out Selection is rather generic and despite being tremendously appeasing and soothing to the senses in a calm and sensual way, the projection is far too subtle for such a clean and inoffensive scent. This is really an attempt at a more professional, office ready version of Hugo Energise for more mature audiences, with the same excellently blended pink pepper note that made Higo Energise so magnificent, but without the masculine woods that helped push Energise off the skin to radiate stronger for others to notice. The musk and cedar are extremely soft in this blend and don't really accentuate the top or middle, allowing it to fade to a skin scent rather quickly and remain mostly a pink pepper, citrus and light musk scent that is extremely attractive despite following standard formulas but won't be enjoyed by anyone but your own nose for a few hours because of its rather soft and subtle essence. I like it for office wear in the fall because I love the pink pepper note here and appreciate its subtle projection as not to draw any unnecessary attention to myself, but for those looking to make an impression you would be better served by some of the more classic aromatic fougeres on the market. If you like the pink pepper note here but want more force behind it, reach for Hugo Energise instead. Decent and subtle, fairly well blended, but indeed rather generic and formulaic. Still worthy of a purchase if you are looking for a classy, subtle office scent that is versatile enough to be worn year-round, day or night. Projection is soft, longevity is generally 3-5 hours with the dry down consisting of mostly light musk and the slightest hint of cedar with pink pepper residue. The highlights are the top and heart, which last the first two hours are dominated by the well blended pink pepper and citrus.

When I first smelled this in GQ, I thought wow! Nice! It is of course from Hugo Boss and I have liked everything I've smelled from him, but this one is different... It is fresh and the citruses are there along with the pink pepper which makes them slightly warm. This leads to the heart of anise and geranium with a hint of cedar,a beautiful warm woody floral accord that lasts quite well on my skin. The drydown of vetiver-patchouli-musk is well done but could be louder IMHO... On me this alternates between fresh and spicy and a warm, earthy slightly floral accord that I find captivating. It is very clean and also sexy in a sweet, smooth kind of way. It suits a suit and tie but also a casual night out at a good restaurant, all in all a good scent for any man to have. It is unlike other aromatic fougeres in that it does not have an real defined green "ferny" note but the geranium more than makes up for that. It is a quite modern and polished fragrance for the 21st century man... Sillage: decent Longevity: pretty good Overall: 3.75/5 As stated by others before me this is not anything new or earth-shaking, but it is a very good scent that is fresh without being aquatic, warm but not too spicy, slightly floral without the usual overdose of lavender and earthy yet not dirty,musky or overly woody. It may not be top shelf but it is by no means generic or common...

The initial opening is a blend of citrus that is somewhat tart along with a slight spicy undertone. 15 Min - The Pepper and citruses have settled down some and I am starting to pick up the woody notes along with some of the Geranium note. 30 Min - So this a definitely a fougere scent profile with citrus, green florals, and a musky backbone tieing everything together. 60 Min - I am starting to get the Vetiver note which is providing a dry and woodt scent which is increasing the fougere aspect of this fragrance. Dry Down: At dry down this fragrance has settled down significantly and I am getting a musck and slightly citric scent profile with some balance being provided by the woodt notes. Performance: Projection of this fragrance is OK with the frangrance creating a scent bubble of about 2 feet for about 2 hours. The sillage is also OK with a scent trail of about 2+ feet for about 2+ hours. Longevity is OK with the fragrance lasting on my skin about 5 to 6 hours, but becoming a skin scent at about 2.5 hours.

Just got this in my mail. Alright. This scent is very elegant, classy and more suited for a formal occasion. You can easily tell all the top, middle and base notes. In the opening the pink pepper and grapefruit is very prominent making it sort of a sweet and spicy scent. After half an hour the anise and geranium kicks in. I do sense a little ceder but its very week. Finally in the dry down you will get the patchouli and the vetiver with a hint of musk. The only problem with this scent is the longevity. On my skin it lasts for 3hrs tops. Im not saying that its gonna happen on everyone's skin, i mean the same scent lasted for like 4 to 5 hrs on my friend. So, lets hope its lasts longer on yours.

Awesome Fragrance ! Fresh , Spicy, Clean, Modern, Mild and Unique. It smells so good and very pleasant with reasonable price. This is perfect for rainy days in the spring and fall. It opens up with slightly sweet fresh spicy, citrusy, floral and warm spices notes in the background then dry down is semi sweet musky woody. This review is based on the new reformulation and my bottle is made in Spain. Longevity is Average , I really enjoy it and I like it. The Pink Pepper, Star Anise and Geranium notes are dominant in this perfume. I love Star Anise note and I bought Hugo Boss Selection blind-buy for this reason. Rating : 7.5 / 10

A very good EDT. It has notes of fresh wood green entry and middle notes are much more refined, with green floral notes with hints of fresh wood and fine. Base notes of green wood. This fragrance leaves a feeling of elegance well suited for night work day but also for special events under one roof. Very elegant and probably works well for dating. Very elegant and desirable. By its nature it is more profitable for young men ages onwards, this fragrance in teens can work only for formal events. A scent that works on almost any season scent perfect for a dark suit.

I bought this today, and I don't know why! I'm so dissapointed. The top note is nice but when it comes to the base, I feel nothing. It's just kinda poor mix version of some other scents, a little 1Million, a little lipstick by Dior Homme, a little Hugo XY..., make this fragrance so common and boring! UPDATE: It's not that bad when I gave it some other try, I think it's quite pleasant, fruity but warm, with touch of pink pepper and strong anise! Not bad, but I still ignore it because of the poor sillage and longevity!

I must admit that it is a very nice perfume, but is similar to so many perfumes available in the market and does not have its own unique character. To my view it is oriental spicy fragrance starts with a strong citrus notes and stays quiet linear. Nothing extraordinary and remarkable about this fragrance. Suitable for office work and formal occasions and you may sometimes get a compliment. Works best in winter and in springs. Average silage and longevity. Nice bottle and packaging. Overall I give it 7.7 out of 10

this is an ok scent. Its a solid work scent. Performance wise, its flakey but then so is the Boss Bottled which i prefer. Tbh, i'm happy to accept that as i bought it in the shop at £20. So you know, its a decent blind buy at that price point. What stays in your mind is the fruity opening which is a Boss signature. I think the drydown is just a little mild but today its 27C so maybe that would affect it

@Lil' Yoghurt lol what a user name .... Just wanted to put my two cents in. Although I don't own this, one of my coworkers wears this pretty regularly, and I definitely sense it on him. It smells nice. Masculine, aromatic, and slightly metallic, 90's/early 2000's but kind of ageless. He's in his 50's so it works for him. I've stolen a few sprays from him here and there.

This is one of those underrated fragrances that get the job done. Yes, it's simple but classy. When you smell this you think of someone who takes care of themselves. Don't be afraid to overspray as the price is decent and you won't offend anyone. The performance and projection are sub par, but still a great daily driver IMO. (7/10)

To me it's a gentleman smell , i think a suit will really bring it out ( the Bergamot in top , Star Anise in the middle & Patchouli in the dry down works pretty good in winter ). Smell : 6 Projection & Sillage : 5 Longevity : 6 hours. so i will rate it as 6. Bottle Desigen : 6.

decent scent, nothing amazing but clean nonetheless, the citrus/spicy notes come out well and make this a decent fragrance, I have layered this with sweeter fragrances and it comes out alright since the strength and sillage are pretty weak, wouldn't pay more than $30 max

Good versatile fragrance that can be safely worn in any occasion. It’s fresh and elegant. It’s not the strongest fragrance ever but it’s also not as dramatically weak as other people have said in my opinion. Good, safe fragrance for everyday use.

A fresh opening. Perfect for a man in a suit. Any place, any time. And that is also the problem. It has no character... I do like the drydown though: much warmer and more character, so overall an ok fragrance for everyday use.

General purpose clean, fresh, soapy, safe scent. Perfect for office as its non-offensive, may be seen as a little generic but the slight anise note makes it just unique enough. Get 6-7 hours w/3 sprays

Very good fragrance for spring and fall. It smells artificial but clean and inoffensive to those around you. Prefect work or school fragrance. Moderate sillage and it last 6-8 hours on my skin. 8/10.

Not a bad 1 from boss. Very light, smells fresh and clean, nice one maybe for the summer, as long as you apply regularly. Sits pretty close to the skin this one.. Prob would not get again..

The smell is actually hard to fault though not unique. I like it much, an all time , all place frag you can wear.

Hugo Boss is the king of the office scents. Pleasant, inoffensive fragrances with moderate longevity and non-existent silage. Selection is another typical entry - my bottle opens with a lovely spicy grapefruit aroma and then dries to a quiet musky wood scent that sits very close to the skin. Re-application is required as for me, the fragrance is gone after 4hrs - I still smell it but I have to jam my face into the area to get anything. Better longevity on clothes but I would not recommend this one for anything other than the office, chilling at home or running errands.

It's too weak. I've tried over spraying, but any more and I would just be wasting it. You just cannot get any hints of the perfume unless you put your nose right up to your wrist. Then you MIGHT smell a bit of musk. Maybe my nose is weak but other people in the house say they don't smell it either. It's not worth it.

Every time I use this , which is not often at all it feels like I'm spraying scented water. Probably my most 'meh' fragrance and not because of performance. This is neutral ... not in a bad way , in a 'meh' way. I can't recommend this one even though it's cheap.

Not crazy about this one. On my skin it kinda smells like slightly rotten oranges, especially when it's projecting. I think it smells better when you first spray it on. I may give it another try one day, but so far I'm not impressed.

A needle in a haystack. Nice smell, soft-spicy , clean with a somewhat green side to it initially. But this one is gone in a flash. Even on clothes it does not last that much ... Ok'ish for the price that it's sold at.

Safe inoffensive, very similar to mont blanc Individuel just a softer fruityness. Sits super close to the skin so office recommended. Not good for dates or drawing attention.

Perfume common, found him like some cheap perfumes here in Brazil, setting up is good, but the smell was horrible on my skin, I was up with nausea, but used it to not lose what you paid for it.

confident? succesfull? and elegant? This is shy, lackluster and weak. No sillge at all, longevity is poor even on shirt. There are a lot of cheaper and better options out there.

This cologne reminds me of crisp. This cologne is good for working at office.

I have tried this. The smell has a very powerful and cold feel to it. I bought this many, many years ago...and it was the first cologne I had ever bought. Up until that point, I never bought cologne..as it just wasn't my thing but this scent changed that. I do agree that this smells very similar to Armani Code...but I smelled this before I smelled Armani Code. Nevertheless, this smell......emanates power and ambition. It has a very powerful and cold feel to it..it just smells....for a lack of a better word....cool. It doesn't smell cuddly. But I love the smell. So I agree with what was intended...as the description of the cologne says "BOSS Selection embodies the style of Boss man: he is confident, succesfull and elegant"...that's pretty much it in a nutshell. My only gripe with it is that it doesn't last long. If I could have the smell (during the first hour) and have it last for 7 hours, this would skyrocket along the same class as my other favorites....Issay Miyake, Creed GIT, YSL, One Millon, Le Male, etc.

Had Hugo Boss carried on from their trifecta of Number One, Hugo For men and Bottled, they might have been far more respected today. But of course, it was not to be. Since then they've given us one very good scent - Dark Blue, a competent scent - Orange for men, and then the rest has sat somewhere between ok (The Scent) to pure garbage (Selection). Selection is such a weird scent to have that name. Selection is Hugo Boss's upscale line. You'd expect them to create something quite extraordinaire for that customer level, but - like Gucci, it was not to be. Combining the ever tired combo of pink pepper and grape in the opening, reveals the lackluster amount of creativity poured into this bottle. It's thin and shrill. This accord dries down on top of laundry musk and non-descript woods. There is literally nothing creative here. Do not buy this. Buy a bottle of YSL L'Homme, Allure Edition Blanche or hell even Dark Blue for a better take on this concept. Longevity is thankfully short. 3-4 hours. Rating: 2.5/10

The opening is very green and juicy conveying something similar to a fig like smell but with somewhat of a lavender and violet powdery vibe. This one settles to something far less interesting, a lightly spiced soapy vibe of vetiver and geranium but with a bitter muskiness. I get the pink pepper not much anise though, it's a bit toothless to be honest and is a little confused...or confusing? I say that because I liked the opening then I hated the mid of this fragrance and now it's dried down to a whimpering skin scent it actually smells really good. The problem is it's barely there, I have to say it peaked my interest, transitioning absolutely so that's something at least.
