Fun fact: This is currently the best-selling masculine fragrance in Finland, beating even Sauvage. This has a 4.6 / 5 rating on Finland's biggest fragrance retailer, with many reviews raving about how they've tried every fragrance and this being the best one. I went to get a spray from the nearly empty tester bottle, next to full tester bottles for other Boss frags. Without looking at the notes, this smells like a well-rounded generic cologne in the "spicy-vanilla with a fresh-fruity mid" category. A rich evening scent in its core, blended with lighter fresher notes to make it less cloying. Armani's Stronger With You and JPG's Ultra Male belong in this same family. I did not like either of those, but this one actually smells really good! There's nothing abrasive or annoying here. A generic cologne done right. This doesn't smell like it's trying too hard to be masculine like Ultra Male. This is just authentically itself, and does it well. Looking at the notes, I'm confused. I smell no leather or lavender in this. And I could swear I'm smelling pineapple or pear, with cinnamon or chestnut in the base. Anyway, maybe it's somehow a Finnish thing to enjoy this fragrance? Because I think this is outstanding as far as generic cologne goes. I can find nothing to dislike here. Try this out if you're after a generic likable masculine scent!

I was thinking about this one quite a bit lately. It smells a bit like my Diesel Only the Brave and bottle of Dolce & Gabbana The One EDT got mixed together, but the reason I kept thinking of it is it reminds me of the clean wearing of Ralph Lauren Ralph's Club EDT (which as a side note should be worn just as much as the YSL Y EDTs of the world and is undervalued as a dumb reach). This is light but it's nice, especially for my climate. It opens with a bit of spicy ginger and mixed citrus (mandarin and bergamot), giving off a clean and approachable vibe. After about 15 minutes the maninka fruit becomes prominent; I knew what it was ahead of time but it's like passionfruit and boozy prunes for those unfamiliar. While that fruit picks up so does a very clean and lightly soapy lavender reminiscent of that used in Ralph's Club EDT, for an almost clean fruity linen that is very pleasant. The base is a calm, smooth leather and blonde woods. It never gets very loud and feels like a nice flexible everyday professional fragrance that I would grab more often if my collection wasn't so big.

I love how people say this is “an amalgamation of every played out scent today”...with TODAY being the key word...when this scent is closing in on a decade in the market. In all honestly, other than the performance, I love this scent. I also love how *just about* every flanker after the fact improved upon the original DNA. I think the Maninka Fruit is a Love it or Hate it kind of thing, and I’m on board. It’s different - a little sweet, but not syrupy. Definitely a “dusty” smell, which if you’ve smelled it you should have an idea of what that means. In short...there’s a reason why the “reminds me of” is filled with flankers, and then scents that couldn’t be any different from one another: because nothing smells quite like The Scent and The Scent doesn’t smell quite like anything out there, 8 years later - still original.

BTS is one of those quiet, underappreciated gems that remind you not every fragrance needs to announce itself from across the room to be great. It’s refined, smooth, and quietly confident. Warm notes of ginger, maninka, and leather blend into something effortlessly appealing and undeniably wearable. Longevity is surprisingly solid, easily lasting through the day, even if the projection stays close to the skin. And that’s exactly the point. This is fragrance as a whisper, not a shout. Not every scent should fill a hallway....some are meant to create a private, inviting aura just for those within arm’s reach. BTS does that beautifully. I was able to pick up a 6.8 oz bottle for $67 at a rack store. Absolute no brainer buy for any collection.

This is severely underrated. People talk about Jazz Club, The One etc for designer classics for winter. This is up there with those. Slightly fruity, boozy leather. This is youthful but also a tad mature. This smells like a boozy orange leather. The Manikan fruit makes it stand out as well. Over all I think this is a hidden gem. Not enough people talk about it. It’s an easy dumb reach for any time of year. Performance isn’t great but for $50 you can just over spray it. It’d be a solid 8.6/10 but due to performance I’ll say it’s a 8.4/10

I didn’t really make a good review last time and have change opinions about this fragrance so I am re-writing this review. Firstly it’s unique so already gets a bonus score for that. Now on to the actual smell, I love it, it is leathery and also lavendery with a little bit of spice and so many other different smells at the same time and still not too overwhelming. It’s also pretty cheap as I got it for 45 pounds. Only problem with it though is the Silliage which is not great at all. Longevity 7/10 Silliage 5/10 The scent 8/10

Boss The Scent Masculine and fresh. Warm and delicious. Such a classy fragrance these days. I love the ginger and lavender it has with the citrus-y top. That maninka brings quite a unique nuance to the fragrance with the leather-y accord. Kind of reminds me of The Scent Le Parfum but noticeably calmer and not so in-your-face. Wore this to a business coach setting. And loved that the fragrance gave some whiffs here and there during that. 8,75/10 for me. Loving the Hugo Boss fragrances so far.

Found a 50ml of this at Burlington, and I was there to blind buy something and I love a small bottle. Beautiful bottle and juice by the way. I love the scent, it’s very similar to YSL l’homme and even La Nuit de l’homme if it was way fresher, gorgeous scent, very clean and understated, definitely office friendly, it’s got vibes of Chanel allure homme original the clear tan bottle, but honestly, I’m taking this one over all 3 of those. I’m loving this, huge blind buy success

When i first tried it on a tester it was great and after a bit i bought it for myself, I sprayed it on my skin about 3 areas and after about 1-3 hours you coudlnt smell it at all unless you put your nose close. the next day i put it on more areas and one spray on my hoodie and it performed GREAT would def recommend as it was semi cheap at the time and smells good fro winter everyday and if you want to go out at night but dont want a super strong scent.

This is amazing. I don't personally understand the rates for this, very underrated. I can say, I love this scent. The ginger and leather in the opening is just so good. And the sweetness in the drydown with the spiceness with it. Just amazing This was my first real "signature fragrance", so for sure my opinion can be a bit biased, but still. My girlfriend loves this too. For me this is also the best in "the scent" -line.

This is a hidden gem I reckon. It reminds me of baking cookies, perfect for intimate nights in the colder weather. I purchased the Perfum version of this thinking it would be a stronger version of the same - on my skin it's not and it smells totally different, especially on dry down. It's really surprising how different the original EDT and the newer Parfum version smell on me. I love this one, don't like the other.

Back in high school, a girl asked what I was wearing and said I smelled really good — that memory alone makes Hugo Boss The Scent special for me. Its citrusy freshness is noticeable without being overwhelming, which is why it deserves a spot in my top 10. It has a clean, charismatic vibe that works great for daily wear. Overall, it’s a timeless, safe yet effective fragrance.

I can't believe all the negative reviews I'm seeing about THE SCENT on this site. IMO it has a really nice scent and has plenty of staying power on my skin. My own personal critic (wife)thinks it smells pretty good too. By the way, I sprayed a small amount on at about 9AM and it's now 3:45PM and can still smell it on my wrist. I never ever use any more than 1 or 2 sprays.

You can forget all the people say. If you want to smell amazing, this is the one to go. It’s not that every other people wear this, and I’ve never have more compliments than this one, and the most importantly this smells amazing to me. This one for the daily use and The scent magnetic for the evening wear for unless it’s summer.

Manika fruit is fabulous in these scents. The original is fantastic on the open. This is from 2015 and unfair to compare to newer flankers when there has obviously been opportunity to perfect the lineup. Sure it's only an edt and has performance issues but who cares. You will get a compliment with this easy.

This may have become my most reliable favorite scent. The blend of supporting notes is familiar citrus and generic green. Most prominent is leather and lavender. It is indeed a gentle fragrance, but its restrained qualities shouldn't be dismissed as deficits. Sometimes easy does it.

smells amazing, opens with a fresh orange scent without any sweetness to it, dries down to a light leathery scent, quite unique. performance is good, opening lasts for about an hour and the dry down remains on my skin for 6-8 hours at least. perfect for cooler weather

It is really built around the art of seduction! Iencountered a nuber of complements for the fragrancd. Guess I cant smell the lavander nor the ginger clearly because it is built using a well balanced notes. If not conisering silage nor longevity, I would give 9+

I love this fragrance, great for formal wear at night time in cold weather. Ive gotten great compliments each time and it smells really nice, warm and leathery with the heart notes and drydown being really amazing.

Smells like expensive shaving cream I actually love it, it’s what id imagine men’s fragrance would smell like in my youth, I have boss bottled infinite edp which comparatively smells like expensive woody hair gel.

Definitely one of my favorite scents, it is fresh not too spicy, it's sexy but not loud. It smells mature and professional, but it doesn't last long and you can only smell it if you're really really close.

The new The Scent EDP Intense is now on sale but I cannot see it on Fragrantica? I’m currently wearing it and it’s perfect for winter. A fruity, spicy Amber fragrance with excellent longevity and sillage.

Fantastic summer scent, projects better than most and lasts damn near forever, very sweet and fresh but not in an overbearing or over-sweet way. This will definitely be one of my signature scents

I would says this is a good daily fragrance if you go to an office with AC. It smells like a corporate clean man, but it doesn’t last long, I would prefer to own the EDP.

This was my first leather scent and there is sophistication to it. The combination of leather and wood is soothing and not in your face. This is now a favourite of mine.

I love this fragrance, the scent is very formal and a good signature. I just hate how bad it lasts. Even with double spray today the scent is almost gone in a few hours.

It’s basically the olfactory equivalent of a guy who wears a nice shirt, orders an old fashioned, and somehow still gets attention without raising his voice. But does it actually deliver? Let’s break it down. Right off the bat you get ginger and citrus with a sweet fruity twist. The star here is Maninka fruit, a unique ingredient that gives the fragrance its signature vibe.  Now... if you’re wondering what Maninka smells like: Imagine a mix of dried fruit a little rum sweetness and slightly exotic tropical vibes. It’s spicy, fruity, and warm all at once. The opening is smooth and inviting, not loud like clubbing fragrances. Think more “date night energy” than “nightclub DJ energy.” After about 30–40 minutes the scent settles into its main character: lavender sweet fruit soft leather warm woods  The leather in the base adds a smooth masculine edge without becoming harsh or smoky.  The vibe here is: warm, slightly sweet, a little spicy, and quietly seductive. This is not a loud fragrance. It’s more of a “lean closer and notice it” kind of scent. Basically, the opposite of something like Sauvage Elixir. Performance (The Achilles heel) Let’s be honest: performance is where this fragrance gets roasted online. Typical performance: Longevity: about 4–6 hours on skin Projection: moderate at first, then sits closer to the skin  Many reviewers say the scent is fantastic but fades faster than they’d like. I write my reviews for my own future reference. To be fair, I have just gone through 1-2 wearings of two dozen luxury fragrances from three different niche houses over the last few weeks. To return to a mainstream fragrance will certainly be unfair. But this is also why I picked The Scent to be the first one up, because a) I'm somewhat familiar with it. b) It is popular, but not trying to be unnecessary trendy (at least anymore), and c) it has a reputation for being familiar and "safe". It also happens to be from the same perfumer as one of the luxury fragrances I just found strong admiration for. With all that being said, what about the scent? Compared to the luxury fragrances, the opening here was initially alcoholic and biting, but settled quickly. I believe this is the effect of transitioning from luxury to mainstream. I don't expect a mainstream fragrance to match the subtlety, layering, and/or initial note clarity those luxury fragrances (should) deliver. A second spritz at the end of the day before writing this was far less concerning, reflecting my senses adjusting. This time the opening was more citrus, bright, with a mix of apples and vanilla. In both cases the dry down reduces to a familiar, warm, and fuzzy feeling. I don't get an overwhelming musky, leathery, woodsy, or spicy tone, just warm and fuzzy. Very easy, pleasant, and comforting. I understand some might fault the scent for not having enough personality, but after some of my luxury fragrances, personality isn't what it is cracked up to be. My experience with the luxury fragrances is that leather and spicy is LEATHERY AND SPICY. Sometimes you not only want friendly, warm, and fuzzy - you need it. People keep coming back to it. That is pretty unique in itself. Keep the original the same and you end up with a classic.

The Scent is a fruity, spicy and woody fragrance. Its opening is citrus and spicy, you can smell the tangerine and ginger. This phase gives the sensation of being an aroma similar to others on the market such as The One by Dolce & Gabbana, however, as the minutes go by, the presence of the characteristic note of the entire The Scent For Him line increases, the maninka. Once it reaches its drying phase, the aroma smells of woods and a slight hint of leather. Of the entire The Scent for Him line, this is the most versatile fragrance, although not for that reason, it is that I recommend it for any situation or climate, because although it is the freshest, it still maintains a spicy and sweet aroma, more for spring and autumn. , or nights out. Its performance is also the worst of the entire line, remaining on the skin between 5 and 6 hours, with low sillage. Despite being the one that gives entry to The Scent for Him line, it is the one that I like the least of all, and not because of its smell, but because I would have liked a better performance.

This is a very pleasant, likeable everyday kind of scent. It goes on with a fresh slightly spicy tinge thanks to the ginger, but settles into a gentle fruity floral accord with the orange, lavender, and unique earthy maninka most prominent. It's moderately sweet, not cloying by any means, and gives off a relaxing comfortable masculine vibe. I don't detect the leather base note at all, and only a little woodiness which has more of a vanillic accord. Some people say the maninka smells dusty, but to me it's more earthy and organic and it lends the scent a nice warmth. This is an average performer that doesn't offer much projection, so it's best suited for office or date wear. It's wearable year round and straddles the line nicely between interesting and safe. I love the bottle too, and was happy to get the original caged metal bottle rather than the newer all-glass redesign with my recent purchase. Very happy to add this low key but modestly charming scent to my collection.

FRESH SWEET-FRUITY WOODY LEATHERY opens with lavender ginger maninka w/ a hint of orange. in the mid: the sweetness from fruits tones down some as it gets fresher from ginger woods and slight lavender. when it dries you get maninka + wood & slightly powdery leather w/ a hint of lavender, and it sits close; the maninka is sweet & fruity (and makes The Scent unique in that genre) while the other notes balance it with clean freshness. scent composition is nice, scent profile is sweet & fresh, 'mass appealing'; versatile, day or night use because it's a light fragrance, combination of fruity (maninka) sweetness and a hint of floralness makes it unisex (but it's not overly sweet or floral and the floralness goes away in the dry), perfect for Spring & Fall time wear. Projection/Sillage': DECENT, arms length scent bubble for the 1st 1-2 hour(s) but mainly an in-close/intimate scent Performance/Longevity: DECENT, 6-7 hours (on fabric)

In most fragrances, the opening is better than the drydown but with this one my preference is the other way around. I find the opening kind of boring. Sure, the citrus smells are nice and fresh but you can buy almost anything else to get that. The drydown however is very unique with mostly maninka and leather notes, which is a really good combination so I'm definitely a fan of this phase. It would have been one of my favorites if the quality wasn't so bad. So speaking of quality, it doesn't last very long (about 4 hours) and the projection is pretty bad too. If it were cheaper then I would be okay with those 2 things but for this price I'm expecting better quality. I haven't tried any of the other fragrances from this line but if I get the chance I'll check them out and hopefully one of those works a bit better. I'm recommending others to do the same.

It’s funny how sixty two out of around fourteen hundred people actually describe this scent as bending unisex to feminine... to me this Scent is as masculine, and perhaps boring, as a male fragrance possibly can be. It’s a very safe choice to make if you’re looking for a gift to any man (30-50 yo). For an amateur like myself it’s hard to describe the accords so I’ll leave that task for others. I just wanted to emphasize that this one is perhaps the hardest one to pull of for a women that I’ve ever smelled. Sure, if you like it then you should wear it, but this is mature masculinity in a bottle. On my skin it lasts for about 6-8 hours and people do comment on it from time to time, but that’s only if they enter my personal space (within an arms length). Compliments usually comes from women in their late thirties/ first half of fourties.
