Hugo Boss Bottled Absolu — 9.5/10 I smelled this in the mall and was instantly sold. Rich, smooth, sophisticated — I ordered it on the spot. When it arrived and I sprayed it for the first time I genuinely thought something was wrong. Burnt leather. One person even told me I smelled like a smoker. Not exactly what you're going for. But I kept coming back to it and after a few months something just... clicked. It turned into this smooth, balsamic, woody, slightly sweet incense scent that I cannot stop smelling on my arm. The drydown is the best part — there's a subtle chocolate quality that creeps in and rounds everything out. Nothing dramatic, just quietly excellent. Don't go crazy with the sprays. 2-3 is plenty. This needs cold air and open space — summer and small rooms will not be kind to it. Autumn and winter is where it belongs. The bottle looks genuinely great on a shelf. The packaging though — it just gets thrown in the box, nothing special about it. Didn't bother me much in the end because what's inside is what counts, and what's inside is really good. The atomizer is my only real complaint. Poor spread and it occasionally spits rather than mists. A bit frustrating at this price point. Other than that, no notes. Just give it time before you write it off. Best for: Cold weather, evenings out, occasions where you actually want to smell like you made an effort. Skip it if: It's summer, you're indoors all day, or you judge a fragrance on the first spray. Absolute masterpiece. Got it before it won best fragrance 2025.

Niche in a designer bottle, this is the scent to have if you want to command a room. Demands respect, but does not look for attention, because it knows it will come anyway. The opening of the scent is the only question mark that I have with this fragrance. It is smoky and dark and honestly I am not sure on how to contemplate it. It just leaves me puzzled even after multiple wears. But as it gets past it, you will be greeted with warm, resinous, balsamic facets and the secret note that Boss is not telling you: Dark Chocolate. Either they are lying to us with the official note breakdown, or the patchouli in this is perceived as chocolatey with the accompanied resins. To me, this phase reminds me of a visit to elders, the distinct old smell of their house and how they gifted us chocolates. Towards the deep drydown, I only sense woodiness with some hints of amberful accords. The performance is absolutely marvellous. This is beastmode in terms of longevity, and it creates a nice scent cloud that is not room filling for hours after initial application. I still smell it on my skin the next day after I wake up. This is the least versatile scent that I own, I feel like this demands a bit of seriousness. It shines in high stakes meetings, serious workdays, or crowded occasions where you want to stand out. This is definitely not a juvenile scent, and if you have read this until here you probably aren’t because your dopamine receptors aren’t fried. Do not blind buy this, try first. If it suits you, don’t worry it will find you.

Now that I’ve had this fragrance for over six months, I thought I’d share a follow-up with my experience. The first time I tried it, I was not completely sure about it, but it grew on me very quickly. It became my favorite fragrance in my collection, and I connected with it deeply because it is very unique. I have realized that it is not a crowd pleaser. Most people think it smells fine, but it is not their cup of tea. Even if others may not appreciate it as much as I do, this fragrance always gives me a strong boost of confidence. Whenever I wear it, I feel more masculine, and that confidence translates into a stronger, more commanding presence. At one point, I thought that maybe I loved it only because of the hype surrounding it and that over time I would stop enjoying it. But after all these months, and after testing many other fragrances in the meantime, this one is still my number one for colder months. I have yet to find anything that can dethrone it. The only fragrance that comes close from my collection is Boss Bottled Elixir. One thing I have noticed is that on some days the opening can smells slightly different. I am not sure if the reason for this is the weather, amount of sprays or something else. However, the dry down it leaves on clothes always smells amazing. If you want a distinctive scent that highlights your masculinity and helps you stand out from mainstream favorites, Boss Bottled Absolu is an excellent choice.

The dry down of Boss Bottled Absolu managed to get it's hooks in me in a way few fragrances have. However, this is NOT going to be popular with everyone, as it's certainly an acquired taste. The Scent: Unlike almost anything I've ever put my nose to so far. It sits in a a similar category as Ombre Leather in my brain, maybe because they both have leather accords, but are very different. Absolu is much sweeter, more green, and chocolaty than Ombre Leather, quite a bit closer to Replica - By The Fireplace. The Cedar is also quite prominent in this, as is the incense. The Vibe: A cool weather walk in the woods wearing a cozy cable knit sweater paired with your favourite leather jacket. Sipping on a hot chocolate as you take in the moment. This is the type of scent you could pull off at a family Christmas party, whereas I can't say the same of Ombre Leather. Performance: I mean, just look at the accords, this puppy will sit with you for a while, especially on clothes. Final Thoughts: Smelling this in the midst of July makes me look forward to colder days when I can wear this more often. But beware! When I first got this bottle, the opening was kind of alarming. It needed to have some oxygen introduced to the bottle before it's warm chocolatey/patchouli qualities woke up.

Overall 10/10 - One of the best things I’ve ever smelled. Bottled Absolu is addicting. I think everyone needs to atleast sample this. Scent Only 10/10 - Rich, smoky patchouli and incense in the open. Sweet but not gourmand. Resinous myrrh and woods throughout the whole wear. I personally don’t get any leather but it doesn’t matter, what my nose smells doesn’t need anything else. The woody drydown is exactly what woods is supposed to be. Performance 9/10 - The 1st hour is perfection, hours 2-4 is hoping it never ends, 5-8 hours is where most of the notes dissipate and you have the pure woods as a skin scent. You could argue for 2+ more hours of wear, but maybe that’s why I want to keep coming back. The opening is pretty sweet, slightly spicy. The patchouli is rich, just a tad earthy. The incense and myrrh come off sweet, smoky, resinous. The earthy patchouli dries down perfectly into the woods and davana. If you’ve ever wanted the perfect “woody” cologne the drydown on this probably qualifies as the textbook definition. Anyone curious how similar this is to Carslisle; it is in the same wheelhouse but Carslisle has a lot more going on. Boss Absolu perfects a few simple notes where as Carslisle has more complex fruits and a niche fermentation to it.

I’ve had Boss Bottled Absolu for almost a year now, and it’s comfortably sitting in my top five. Every time I come back to it, I’m reminded why it earned that spot. This isn’t one of those fragrances that wows you once and then fades into the background. It sticks with you, literally and mentally. The main notes I pick up are incense, leather, and patchouli, and they absolutely run the show. The incense gives it that dark, smoky backbone, the leather adds a rugged, masculine edge, and the patchouli keeps everything grounded and earthy. Davana sneaks in quietly, adding a touch of sweetness and an aromatic, slightly herbal lift that keeps the scent from feeling too heavy or serious. What I really enjoy about this one is how confident it feels without trying to show off. It’s powerful, no doubt, but it’s controlled. The kind of scent that feels intentional, like you knew exactly what you were reaching for. Performance is strong, projection is solid, and it wears like it knows it belongs. It honestly makes sense that this was voted Best Men’s Fragrance of 2025 on Fragrantica. It hits that sweet spot between mass appeal and bold character, and it does it effortlessly. Unapologetically masculine, beautifully blended, and just plain enjoyable to wear.

Boss Bottled Absolu is an absolute pleasure. Good to see Boss finally one-upping their game with their recent releases. Boss Bottled Elixir, Triumph Elixir and Boss bottled beyond are all great fragrances to get. Tested Triumph Elixir and Absolu at a store and was torn between which one to buy. Went for Absolu since it seemed to have that extra oomph, which I reckon comes from the Myrhh and Davana notes. This is a niche fragrance released by a designer. The first spray is warm and inviting, conjuring a whirl of Incense, Myrhh and delectable leather. The mid notes are patchouli and the base is woody and somewhat green/herbal. This fragrance is a revelation, the leather and patchouli are thankfully not overbearing and mingle quite adequately with the rest of the notes. This is a luxurious scent, suitable for office, formal events and even days out with a crowd. All seasonal scent? Autumn and fall, but I for one will be wearing this in evenings during spring as well Unisex? Masculine Blind buy worthy? If you want to smell like a million bucks, this here is your potion Performance? Longevity, around 9 to 10 on skin, still not sold on the projection and sillage, but I have to wear it a few more times to truly settle in.

Okay interesting fragrance here. I picked this up because there’s a lot of hype around absolu and with it being the fragrance of the year it was essential to give it a shot. First off I’ll start with the positives; Absolu is absolutely nuclear. I get easily 12 hours of longevity on skin and double that on clothing with moderate to strong projection. The quality of perfume oils used in this is incredibly high quality and far exceeds most designer fragrances I’ve come across. Now in terms of the actual scent profile. Although very unique and complex, there’s one thing I just can’t quite move past. This is really the only gripe I have with Boss Bottled Absolu, it’s overly balsamic. I don’t quite know if it’s the myrrh or the devana or even the mix of both but it’s so balsamic it sort of ruins the scent for me. Now I do believe that’s mostly only an issue when smelling it directly off the skin because this fragrance must certainly smell different in the air. It’s a compliment beast and so far hasn’t failed to get nothing but very positive feedback on every wear so far. So all in all I’d recommend for most people but definitely go smell it off your skin first before you buy.

Picked this up earlier this year in the dead of winter and it was an absolute slam dunk. Boss Bottled Absolu is warm and spicy with a really nice sweetness running through it, but crucially, it's not that loud, gourmand, 20-something sweet-bomb kind of sweetness. It's dialed back and grown-up. This smells like a fragrance for an adult who's got his life together, not a kid trying to get noticed in a college hallway. That's the thing I keep coming back to: the sweetness is there, but it's blended so it reads mature and refined rather than candy. Warm spice up front and through the heart, settling into something rich and dry. It's a cold-weather scent through and through. This is what you reach for on a freezing night out, not a summer daytime thing. Also the performance is honestly ridiculous. The longevity on this can survive a shower. I'm not exaggerating; spray it and it's still going strong hours and hours later, and it clings to clothes for what feels like forever. If you want a warm, spicy, mature winter fragrance that refuses to quit, this is a no-brainer full-bottle pickup.

Elixir is a pretty basic, dry-incense sort of smell. Not bad but not that interesting either. Absolu, on the other hand, is rich, dense and interesting, with a small touch of balsamic sweetness from the myrrh that lifts the beautiful chocolatey patchouli and smoky incense notes, into something truly niche smelling. And the davana! Davana isn't talked much about, as I'm guessing it isn't a note most people are familiar with, but that layer of boozy-fruitness is the chef's kiss. Performance is excellent. Smells insanely masculine without going over the top. 9/10 Caveat. If you're only used to designer scents, BBA probably isn't going to be for you...not yet at least. Start dipping your toe into the niche world, train your nose to repel the mundane, and you'll eventually appreciate this scent for the masterpiece it truly is. P.S. Asad elixir is NOTHING like this. Forget what the shills tell you. AE is a confused chaotic mess, with not even the slightest hint of quality about its ingredients. Absolu is blending genius.

The opening is dark, warm, with incense and amber coming through clearly. From the first spray it feels rich and a bit heavy. I see it close to Carlisle Parfums de Marly in usage. Same kind of vibe, but this one is simpler and more direct. Performance is very strong. Longevity goes around 12 hours, and on clothes it stays even longer. Sillage is very strong for the first 2 hours, then stays noticeable for around 6 hours. The main issue for me is that it can feel a bit synthetic in parts. Also since I already own Carlisle, I don’t see a reason to come back to this one. But for the price, it’s very solid. I’d recommend it if you want something in the Carlisle direction but cheaper and strong. Works best in cooler weather. Avoid heat and humidity, it can get too much. Go easy on sprays. Smell: 8.5/10 Longevity: ~12 hours Sillage: very strong (2h), noticeable (6h) Seasons: Fall, Winter, cooler Spring Age: 25+ (works even younger, 15+ fits the vibe) Main accord: ambery, incense, woody, slightly sweet, synthetic woody

Nose Note #1123 I bought a sample of Asad Elixir and then read some comparisons saying Bottled Absolu is just much better. Man, this is indeed so much better. First, Asad Elixir is not a very faithful clone, but the similarity is crystal clear. Just like people say Asad Elixir has something from Sauvage Elixir, so does this - big time. Like Sauvage Elixir mixed with something inbetween Layton Exclusif and Carlisle. So it has some traits of the aforementioned perfumes, but overall it's a standalone. Just a wonderful rich, sweet, slightly myrrh-like scent. Wonderful. Very satisfying performance. Price is a bit steep for Boss. Hard to compare it to Asad Elixir because its performance is so dog shit... It's like a weaker version of this + not so exciting. This is a wonderful example of a designer fragrance. Doesn't try to be something exceedingly complex, niche, whatever. Just a nice warm scent, almost a dumb reach kind of one. At least for my taste. I feel like I could wear this anywhere anytime. 8.2/10

On paper when this originally came out I found it unconvincing. It wasn't until I tried this on skin that I began to appreciate what Boss have done with this fragrance. The dark sweet incense and Davana was a brilliant choice. This is a daytime Autumn/ Winter wear for me. Walking along with the bitter wind pushing the scent silage around to my olfactory senses, I really enjoy smelling this in the air. It's about as unique and niche as you get for a designer. I have a 50ml bottle and a 200ml bottle that my girlfriend bought me for Christmas. It's one that will be a staple for me during winter going forward. It's a fairly "One waft tells all", as it stays fairly consistent, with the sweetness very slowly dissipating over time. I watched a female colleague stop and smell the scent in real time, as it stood out. At work this is a 2-3 sprays at the very most. Out and about in the cold 5-6 sprays works well, and keeps that brilliant silage going.

It's a good perfume for a designer fragrance, but very overhyped. Influencers flaunt it like it's the best scent out there. It's not. It's just good, and that's not a bad thing. It's affordable, so it's accessible to people who can't justify spending on overpriced perfumes. Its accessibility is a big plus. Everyone should be able to smell nice. I bought two bottles of this. I enjoyed them until I sprayed every last drop. Was this fragrance worth it? Yeah, but I won't repurchase it. I would still recommend it to people who are just getting into perfume collecting, because it's still a good scent. Dark, resinous, woody, but sweet. It's basically a gateway-fragrance to the stronger Arabic Oud and resinous perfumes with better sillage and longivity. Boss Bottled Absolu pairs well with Boss Bottled Elixir. Both are good. Both are overhyped and nothing to write home about.

This is a good price value because this stuff is powerful. It's easy to over spray, and I think that's where some people get the bad reviews. In proper moderation, like one spray, or small amounts on the points you like, it will do you all day. It stays on clothes and skin for a long time. At least 12 hours on skin and days in your clothing. Very masculine, dark, and definitely not a summer frag. I don't love it as much as some of the influencers, but, I do love it, and it's grown on me even more in the month I've had it. It's bold, it stands out, and for better or worse, it will get you noticed. This is a great addition to, or beginning of a fragrance collection. Update. After getting a few more frags, BBA is better than all of them. I see why it's so loved. I'm starting to not want to wear anything else. I gave my friend a decant to share the wealth. 9.5/10

The opening is immediately very manly. You are hit right away with a smoky leather accord that sets the tone from the first spray. There is also a slight balsamic note in the opening, which adds depth but thankfully calms down once the fragrance starts to dry down. As it develops, the scent smooths out quite a bit. The incense is present but not heavy or overwhelming, and I get more of the myrrh, patchouli, and cedarwood coming through. This stage feels well-blended, refined, and honestly beautiful. Overall, this is a very masculine fragrance and definitely not blind-buy safe in my opinion. This is something I would confidently wear on a night out rather than casually. The scent profile is amazing. I have been eyeing this one for some time now, and after wearing it, I completely understand the hype. Performance is strong, so do not overspray. Simply gorgeous.

2nd best smelling designer perfume ever made behind Dior Homme Parfum 2014 original formulation. Very intense, mature, dense and complex smell. The opening might come off a little bit sharp or balsamic, but after the first 5 minutes this dries down into a very high quality resinous sweet amber with a slightly chocolatey sweet backbone. Reminiscint of Amouge Outlands or Carlisle DNA. This is not for your average daily wear, especially for the younger crowd. Very much a dressing up or date night fragrance. No more than 4-5 sprays as the performance is absolutely nuclear. I get about 12-14 hours of total performance out of this, with it projecting very heavy for at least the first 5-6 hours. Quality is borderline high end niche - and well worth every dollar spent. Overall, 10/10 fragrance. Does not lack any refinement, improvement or quality.

This perfume is extremely masculine. I went into a Hugo Boss store to try the Elixir version (I definitely didn't intend to buy it). They didn't have the Elixir version. They had the newer Absolu. After spraying a little on the sample papers, the perfume captivated me. It's an incredibly beautifully blended leather patchouli scent. I thought, "There can't be such a warm, masculine perfume." Even though it was August, I bought it right there. After spraying a few times, I put it back in its box to let it steep. I started using it 3 months later. I have a lot of perfumes, but this has become the one I've used the most this winter. It's very long-lasting. It might be bothersome if you spray too much. But if you spray a little, you can even use it in an office environment. I really love this scent. 10/10!

The best Boss Bottled Dark, Mysterious, suitable for a gentleman with suit, unique, very high (niche) quality. The last more than 10 hours on my skin and the sillage is higher than Elixir. I would wear it in any season other than summer. It starts leathery spicy, but then a woody-chocolate note (from patchouli) is added. The perfume is very balanced and never becomes too earthy or sweet. It gets very slightly sweeter over time, when the leather gets weaker. It is longer lasting but less sweet, compared to the Elixir. The Elixir is more labdanum-heavy, mixed with vanilla. Here, it is patchouli with a woody note, and also a slight leathery note. The vanilla is way less. I have both and they are very different to me. It is not for everyone, so not safe for a blind-buy. Highly recommended though.

Opening is a strong sweet and smoky leather, almost boozy but not quite. Dries down into a sweet and earthy patchouli. The dry down reminds me of a unsweetened dark chocolate almost and is more subtle than the opening but still is strong. The performance is crazy, I get 12 hours on skin, and on clothes it seems to last multiple washes sometimes. The silage is strong too, and remains strong up until about 8 hours, where it becomes a skin scent. It is one of my favorites, I didn’t really know if I liked it at first but it really grew on me. Not suitable for every occasion, I would wear this only when its chilly outside, or on dates. Too cloying for clubbing or partying imo. This fragrance makes me feel strong and confident and pulls a lot of compliments as well. 9.5/10 IMO
