Dominican Tobacco

My first plunge into the world of Ibraheem AlQurashi. I like the word "plunge". I'll say it once more. Plunge. And I'm going to follow that with an Oof, because this is one blow your head off, smoky old bastard of a perfume. The rich tobacco and smoke absolutely leaps out of the bottle at you, as soon as you apply the smallest amount of pressure to the sprayer. And once it's on your skin, you ain't getting it off Sonny Jim, oh no. Fucking no chance mate. So, if you don't like smoky perfumes, keep on scrolling, you social media whore, as you'll hate this perfume as much as I hate racism, and I hate that A LOT. For me, I have nothing but praise for Dominican Tobacco. It is deeper than an Olympic diving pool. There is some very clever use of herbs in it, which only strengthen the tobacco notes, as the herbs within it do a superb job of supporting the tobacco, allowing it to shine brightly, or darkly, depending on how you look at it. The guaiac wood, something which can make or break a perfume, absolutely makes it here. It sits calmly but firmly, in the middle of this utter beast, providing the perfect link between the top and base notes. It really is very clever, and shows a natural talent in both working with difficult scent notes and general perfumery construction. I am now curious about the other perfumes in IAQ's tobacco series. But I'm fucking glad I started with this one. 8/10. It loses two points because of the 20ml size; it is at the upper end of what I will pay for 20mls of fragrance.

Not for sissies. This is hard black tobacco, smoky oud-y incense, with absolutely no sweetness at all. This is the campfire in the woods after the party and everyone has already left. This is the fire at the end of its life, dark grey embers, hardly any amber light at all even after you poke it with the branch you found. Only wear it to funerals, bonfires, Hallowe'en, or if you're watching a horror movie at the cinema, especially when on your own. I wear it to work sometimes in my office which normally gets a reaction. I have a couple of hundred scents ranging from Angels' Share to mainline designer to Parisi's, Andy Tauer's to Lattafa, Armaf, to sweets that probably very few women would wear, but this one is one of my most used. It's sublime. That means nothing to anyone else, but for a Middle Eastern reasonably priced totally linear dark ash manly fragrance with very decent longevity and projection, it's an absolute triumph. 2 spare bottles in the cupboard. Don't wear it with shorts and flip flops or you really deserve to, and should get arrested. EDIT 19/02/26 - This has developed a wonderfully strong, addictive, sweet tinge to it that wasn't there before and although still very much a male oriented dark tobacco ash-y fragrance it will surely become a more people pleasing scent. I gave one of my bottles to my friend some time ago and smelt it on him and this projects at least a metre and the sweetness shone through. Still an absolute bomb of a fragrance for a very small fee.

An amazing fragrance. Dry as a nun's, uhh.. humour. Not a lot of sweet going on. The colour association I make with it is exactly the colour of the bottle. Longevity is 18 hours on my skin (which eats fragrances like it hasn't seen food in weeks and just discovered a pot of hot chicken-necks) and I get very loud projection for around 5 hours. When other reviewers say this is eternal and loud as a banshee, take this into consideration. My bottle has probably not matured enough yet to make an assessment on the fragrance-notes itself, but straight out of the box it is atomic. Who'd wear this? Al Capone.. probably.

Seems nobody has given a proper breakdown, here is what I have to say: I pick up a decent amount of notes that are not listed here. I smell an earthy tobacco coupled with incense, and amber. This fragrance is basically if Interlude and Black Afgano had a baby. I love it so far. You get that “hashish” essence of Black Afgano on top of the incense/amber backbone of Interlude. The “hashish” effect is strong in the opening, and the fragrance settles down to a more smoky, incensey amber. It only costed me about 50 USD. Definitely try this fragrance if you can find it online.

Funnily enough, this is the fragrance that has earned me the most compliments. It has a bold, earthy tobacco vibe that exudes masculinity, and its longevity is insane—I can still smell it on my clothes three days later. The sillage is absolutely nuclear. I was in a mall once, and a guy literally followed my scent trail just to ask me what I was wearing. If you want a powerful, long-lasting fragrance that turns heads, I highly recommend this one for colder seasons. (to avoid in closed areas if you are with sensible people)
