After My Own Heart

This scent is almost all lilac, with a greenish cast at the beginning. I did not notice any raspberry at the beginning, but, it maybe what lends a fun and happy opening to the scent. The scent opens playfully and very naturally. It rushes quickly to the middle note-lilac. Here, It seems as if I was surrounded by a million lilac bushes, all in full bloom. At moment,s it's so realistic, that it seems like I can smell the leaves, and the twigs of the bushes too. Gently herbal at moments. Very soon come the base notes mingling in too, wich really makes this perfume special. The sandalwood really gives a cloud like feeling, a dreamy, and picturesque state of mind. *sigh* There is alot of interaction of the top green notes, the lilac, and the base notes during a period of one hour or so. There's alot of action going on, the way the notes mix, and it's all so wonderfull, excellent, and pleasant, like a walk in the park on a sunny but not too hot day, or a perfect day dream created just by you. Then at this point, after about an hour or two of wear, the perfume stops moving about so much. It becomes sweet, and physically sticky on the skin, and stops swirling about, it stops making all that magic. Here it is candy like, and sometimes bath soap scented. It lasts a good 4 to 5 hours (in this state) or more. The ultimate dry down is just a baby soft whisper of the entire scent, with the sandalwood present, and a sweetened but soft musk present too.

This is the most beautiful, delicate fresh lilac perfume that I've ever smelled. This is the lilac note you would get from using enfleurage to capture the fleeting scent of freshly bloomed lilacs, their leaves still pearled with dew beads and the wafting green that follows a rainstorm. I understand the associations with Frederic Malle "En Passant" due to the familiarity of lilac, but Ineke's take on it is in a league all her own. It's veritable blasphemy within fragrance communities to say this, but on my skin, I don't find most Malle scents wearable. They are artistic compositions that I appreciate on paper, sprayed on fabric or in the air, but not on my skin. En Passant's lilac was strong and cold in its assertion, where this one captures the demure sensuality and romanticism of real fresh lilacs. I catch the hints of sweet fruit from the raspberry note, but didn't recognize the bergamot. The perfume is well-blended and anchored by soft musk. It's twirling in a gossamer sundress and dancing in soft breezes in the middle of a sun-drenched lilac field. It's spring in a bottle. Lilac is definitely not a common fragrance note, so I highly recommend trying a sample and NOT blind buying. Tuberose is like that for me; I like it more in concept than on my skin.

I’m surprised people smell so much lilac in this. I can’t pick it out. To me it smells like the nicest detergent smell ever. And it is to me the Lilac equivalent to Ofresia by Diptyque. A wonderful fresh clothing smell. Not offensive, nice and soft, familiar smelling, sweet fresh floral scent. Clean but not soapy, clean but not green, perfect round type of clean. On my recent mission to smell all the lilacs, this was suggested on many round ups on the forums. It’s more of a winner than Vilhelm or Jacques Fath, (both of those were way to sharply green for me) but it also isn’t soliflore enough to compete with En Passant or Lilac Path. It’s very nice though. And the more I smell it the more I think I need a bottle! It’s just soooo lovely. It just doesn’t belong in my Lilac collection to my nose. It belongs in my clean smelling shower fresh collection.

I’ve had After my Own Heart for a long time, but was initially underwhelmed in my search for a true Easter morning lilac , I was looking for photorealistic back then, and this wasn’t it for me. But I have always found it pretty , though it’s sat at the back for 3 years. Then this spring I fell hard for clean fresh soapy/shampoo leaning musky florals. I remembered this one was exactly that and decided to revisit ( to give my daily Lust in Paradise a break lol) and WOAH. A winner in that category for me. Very much in the same category as Lust in Paradise, and Valaya. It’s the Lilac cousin to those. My opinion- if you’re looking for a true lilac this is 6/10 But if you’re looking for fresh clean musky lilac 9/10 🏆

This perfume is a delight. Beautiful, beautiful fresh and cool lilac, which on me morphs into soapy lilac after about an hour. The floral coolness reminds me of a particular Italian soap, Emozione in Toscana by Nesti Dante. I bought this after much research, including trolling through reviews of many lilac scents in the Fragrantica database. I am very pleased to have acquired this. I get about 4 hours from it, and even at the end of this time there are still a few remaining tiny drifts of cool lilac wafting around me. Just lovely.
