After My Own Heart

This scent is almost all lilac, with a greenish cast at the beginning. I did not notice any raspberry at the beginning, but, it maybe what lends a fun and happy opening to the scent. The scent opens playfully and very naturally. It rushes quickly to the middle note-lilac. Here, It seems as if I was surrounded by a million lilac bushes, all in full bloom. At moment,s it's so realistic, that it seems like I can smell the leaves, and the twigs of the bushes too. Gently herbal at moments. Very soon come the base notes mingling in too, wich really makes this perfume special. The sandalwood really gives a cloud like feeling, a dreamy, and picturesque state of mind. *sigh* There is alot of interaction of the top green notes, the lilac, and the base notes during a period of one hour or so. There's alot of action going on, the way the notes mix, and it's all so wonderfull, excellent, and pleasant, like a walk in the park on a sunny but not too hot day, or a perfect day dream created just by you. Then at this point, after about an hour or two of wear, the perfume stops moving about so much. It becomes sweet, and physically sticky on the skin, and stops swirling about, it stops making all that magic. Here it is candy like, and sometimes bath soap scented. It lasts a good 4 to 5 hours (in this state) or more. The ultimate dry down is just a baby soft whisper of the entire scent, with the sandalwood present, and a sweetened but soft musk present too.

This is the most beautiful, delicate fresh lilac perfume that I've ever smelled. This is the lilac note you would get from using enfleurage to capture the fleeting scent of freshly bloomed lilacs, their leaves still pearled with dew beads and the wafting green that follows a rainstorm. I understand the associations with Frederic Malle "En Passant" due to the familiarity of lilac, but Ineke's take on it is in a league all her own. It's veritable blasphemy within fragrance communities to say this, but on my skin, I don't find most Malle scents wearable. They are artistic compositions that I appreciate on paper, sprayed on fabric or in the air, but not on my skin. En Passant's lilac was strong and cold in its assertion, where this one captures the demure sensuality and romanticism of real fresh lilacs. I catch the hints of sweet fruit from the raspberry note, but didn't recognize the bergamot. The perfume is well-blended and anchored by soft musk. It's twirling in a gossamer sundress and dancing in soft breezes in the middle of a sun-drenched lilac field. It's spring in a bottle. Lilac is definitely not a common fragrance note, so I highly recommend trying a sample and NOT blind buying. Tuberose is like that for me; I like it more in concept than on my skin.

I’m surprised people smell so much lilac in this. I can’t pick it out. To me it smells like the nicest detergent smell ever. And it is to me the Lilac equivalent to Ofresia by Diptyque. A wonderful fresh clothing smell. Not offensive, nice and soft, familiar smelling, sweet fresh floral scent. Clean but not soapy, clean but not green, perfect round type of clean. On my recent mission to smell all the lilacs, this was suggested on many round ups on the forums. It’s more of a winner than Vilhelm or Jacques Fath, (both of those were way to sharply green for me) but it also isn’t soliflore enough to compete with En Passant or Lilac Path. It’s very nice though. And the more I smell it the more I think I need a bottle! It’s just soooo lovely. It just doesn’t belong in my Lilac collection to my nose. It belongs in my clean smelling shower fresh collection.

I’ve had After my Own Heart for a long time, but was initially underwhelmed in my search for a true Easter morning lilac , I was looking for photorealistic back then, and this wasn’t it for me. But I have always found it pretty , though it’s sat at the back for 3 years. Then this spring I fell hard for clean fresh soapy/shampoo leaning musky florals. I remembered this one was exactly that and decided to revisit ( to give my daily Lust in Paradise a break lol) and WOAH. A winner in that category for me. Very much in the same category as Lust in Paradise, and Valaya. It’s the Lilac cousin to those. My opinion- if you’re looking for a true lilac this is 6/10 But if you’re looking for fresh clean musky lilac 9/10 🏆

This perfume is a delight. Beautiful, beautiful fresh and cool lilac, which on me morphs into soapy lilac after about an hour. The floral coolness reminds me of a particular Italian soap, Emozione in Toscana by Nesti Dante. I bought this after much research, including trolling through reviews of many lilac scents in the Fragrantica database. I am very pleased to have acquired this. I get about 4 hours from it, and even at the end of this time there are still a few remaining tiny drifts of cool lilac wafting around me. Just lovely.

Very soft and aquatic floral... It's so gentle that i'm realy having a hard time to detact the notes. the only thing that i do smell is the lilac flower. This perfume is very romantic and inocent, a young soft perfume. I believe it's the one Ineke's perfume that every women would love, it's very mainstream frag, not a 'wierd' one at all like the other perfumes by Ineke...

Gorgeous lilac, robust, and fresh! The sandalwood along with the green notes make this an earthy, lilac-soap scent that my nose can not get enough of. Luckily it has great sillage that likes to creep up there all on it's own so that I don't have to have my nose plastered to my wrist. It's wrapped in a beautiful classy package with a stunning bottle. Lasts all day.

I tried both En Passant and After My Own Heart side by side on my skin. I think that they are really similar but En Passant more soft, wet and also cold on the skin. After My Own Heart more clean, fresh and floral than En Passant. If you like the lilac and also floral perfumes, you should try them because, they are very cozy!

this is just such a pretty, fresh floral. it’s a very literal take on lilacs, too, which is exactly what I wanted - fresh lilac, green stems, and some dew drops sprinkled in. polite sillage, not in your face or anything, and yet it sticks around pretty well - it doesn’t disappear once it dries down

Truly LILAC, in the most beautiful ethereal and yet substatial version you can find any place maybe even better than the bush! LOVE this one, definitely fbw, on my birthday wishlist already :)

This is a pleasant fragrance. The lilac reminds me of bringing my grandmother lilacs on Easter Sunday. If you are looking for a soft spring floral, this is it!

A little bit sour and juicy (raspberry?). It has not the dewy, melancholic notes of the wonderful "En passant". I expected much more from AMOH.

A mood. Soapy, laundry clean with a little tiny wisp of floral - close to the skin. Like a clean, summer laundry day - soft and lovely.

The smell of a dewy spring morning on your back porch or balcony, the slightly warm breeze blowing the smell of the blooming lilacs and greenery all around. Opens up with PHOTOREALISTIC clean, green, floral, and slightly sweet lilac. It quite literally smells like you stuck your head in a lilac bush in the late spring. Then as it dries down the various facets of the lilac get boosted and filled out by some of the supporting notes. The clean white musk, the powdery and floral heliotrope and sandalwood, and a hint of sweetness from from some sort androgynous berry. From this point on it remains fairly linear. What a fantastic lilac scent. If you’re in the market for something that truly and unapologetically smells like a lilac bush, try this one out. Not a super complex one, and because of that this would make for a super good signature scent as it’s not super strong and easy to understand but has some legs to stand on. First from the house, was very pleasantly surprised. Leans feminine, but I can see myself reaching towards this in the spring and summer as it’s not overly “pretty” and more realistic. Good performance of 6.5-8 hours with nice whisky projection for the first 3 or so hours. I’d imagine this would be a beast under some heat. 8.6/10. Signature scent worthy. Song vibe - Gutter Girl by Hot Flash Heat Wave TLDR - clean, easy to wear, and super realistic lilac bomb that smells like you stuck your head in a lilac bush. A must try and have for any lilac lovers out there.

The lilacs have a divine smell. It is one of those scents that completely mesmerize and capture me. And yet there are not many fragrances that capture this beauty. I was so delightful to discover that AFTER MY OWN HEART is definitely all about this beautiful spring flower. The lilacs in this perfume are tender and closely resemble the real flowers but they are not as sweet or strong as in PUR DESIR DE LILAS or EN PASSANT. The fragrance has a distinct green and crisp vibe to it, which I enjoy a lot. The scent opens with a fresh, green notes and bergamot. It has almost crisp and clean feeling. It reminds me of a fresh and slightly cool spring air. Then the scent unveils the gorgeous scent of lilacs but the composition still maintains this green and crisp quality. The scent remains very light and airy for hours. The dry down has a resemblance of its heart notes plus light woody musk. The sillage and longevity are only medium but the scent is light and lovely, which works great for the warmer weather. I do still think that YR PUR DESIR DE LILAS is the most realistic lilacs. And I do prefer EN PASSANT for its vibrant and complex composition. But I would recommend AFTER MY OWN HEART for those who found the above two scents too sweet or strong and prefer their lilacs greener. This is definitely a nice green lilac scent that will appeal not only to lilacs lovers but to anyone who enjoy clean, airy and green floral scents. (My overall score – 8/10)

The opening of Ineke After My Own Heart is very soapy on me, almost like a lilac-hyacinth soap. This soapy aspect subsides after about 30 minutes and a gentle lilac is revealed. The lilac in AMOH is indeed very natural and quite realistic, with the heliotrope complementing its slightly nutty and gentle powdery aspects. It also feels greener and less aquatic compared to Frederic Malle En Passant. I don't detect raspberry per se, but the lilac here does have a more pronounced fruity tonality. Unfortunately, this lovely lilac stays only for about 2 hours. What's left then, is a skin scent of white musk and verdancy. Interestingly, I detect the bergamot more easily at this stage. The sillage is moderate to soft, and the longevity is around 5 hours. I find AMOH a lovely green floral fragrance, quite natural and pretty. However, I'd suggest againt blind buying due to the soapy opening.

Breezy, fresh and comforting. I'm typically not a fan of lilac as it always reminds me of cheap bathroom air freshner, however, in this instance, it's not so repugnant. In fact it's actually very pretty and soft. The green notes, bergamot and sandalwood (I don't detect any other obvious notes) seem to tame the lilac, preventing it from becoming common and nauseating. I was born in Poland and lived there until I was 6. This perfume has stirred up a memory for me of my mom bathing me with a Polish lilac soap or maybe it was lilac bath foam? I can't seem to recall exaclty what she used, but I remember smelling so fresh, powdery and pretty after. After My Own Heart smells exactly like that. Thanks for the flashback Ineke! In this instance, the name of the perfume and the memory it evokes for me are truly aligned.

I love and own FM "En Passant", so I was more than excited to try this lilac creation by Ineke. Even though both of them have the same "vibe" I find them completely different. When "En Passant" has the "lilacs after the rain/morning mist", "After my own heart" has lilacs in the hot day. There is really some warmness underneath the lilacs, I could swear there is also some hyacinth and jasmine. The main difference is in dry down. "En Passant" stays true to the lilac, but Ineke changes - after 6 hours of lilacs, I get ONLY musk, and the kind I despise - sharp, soapy, wet-animal like. I did not enjoy this part as all, so I will be sticking with "En Passant". Staying power is good, 7+ hours.

I didn't expect to like this because although I love the smell of lilacs, the fragrances I've smelled that feature it tend to use it like a club. Not so here. This is the scent of walking around the Rochester Lilac Festival(biggest one!), smells of greenery and sweet wafts of lilac on the breeze. Opens a bit soapy and gradually transforms, bringing a lingering sweetness to the scent. That may be raspberry, but it's nondescript to me, and eventually fades into a faint sweet sandalwood at the end. Wears moderately close, lasted about 4h. I may pick this one up for the excellent scene setting. To my mind this is the way a floral scent should be presented. Respect.

I knew before sampling this that it was supposed to smell like lilac, and so it does, among other things. Initially, the impression of lilac is reasonably accurate, but within seconds the flowers are joined by green and woody notes and something soapy. Then the lilac scent gets a second wind and comes back along with heliotrope and something vaguely aquatic. It intensifies and becomes almost overpoweringly floral. There’s more sillage than I would like. It’s linear, and it lasts all day, at least 8 hours. I have to say that it’s too floral for me to enjoy wearing, but for those who do enjoy strong florals, especially lilac, it’s a must-try.

Just as Ineke told me "it's lilac all the way, from start to finish" and it really is. Real thing, too, with leaves and branches. Very fresh and true to real lilac with a slight powdery feel. I don't get any other flowers. How long does it last on me? Two hours yesterday, more like four today. If it lasts at least four, I might be getting it. Upd.: it does last. It lasted on my clothes for a week -- amazing! Lasted on my skin for more than 4 hours, too, it's just slightly elusive, like an actual lilac in an actual breeze -- you smell it sometimes more and sometimes less. Getting it I guess -- haven't tried all the samples yet!

I decided to give this fragrance another chance and got another sample of it. I wore Aerin Lauder's Lilac Path yesterday and truly enjoyed that. After my own Heart while a nice fragrance is a bit screechy at times. And I do get a slight headache from it, same as I did the last time I wore it. This is more of a lilac scent mingles with clean laundry. Where Aerin Lauder's Lilac Path is just beautiful lilacs. Much more natural than this perfume. The raspberry floats in and out here as well and can be a little distracting. A nice effort here, it is pretty but alas not full bottle worthy.

Photorealistic lilac flowers wafting on a warm sunny breeze. Absolutely stunning, but very very light. To achieve any sillage past about an inch from my skin I have to apply it with a far heavier hand than I am used to. However the longevity is incredible, I can apply it first thing in the morning and then still wake up smelling it during the night. Flower by Kenzo makes a decent dupe for this if you want something similar but slightly less refined, that has larger sillage, and almost as much staying power but at a more affordable price point/easier to get hold of.

AMOH is THE reference sample for lilac, particularly if you are not very familiar with the actual flower and scents like 5th Ave puzzle you. I had a serious 'a-ha!' moment when I smelt this, all of a sudden I understood what had been under my nose all along. Somewhere from the subconscious my mind is summoning up images of fresh, beautifully scented linen, dried in sunlight and infused with the very essence of cleanliness. There is that soapy floralicity about it. A powerful floral offering, it is very ladylike and grown up.

Spring turns into autumn on me with this fragrance- Without even a brief whiff of the fruity top notes, this fragrance jumps right into the lilac heart note- this warm vintage take on the lilac is reminiscent of Highland Lilac of Rochester, New York- The amber base notes begin to play in harmony with the lilac, and they take turns singing the lead melody. Gradually, the spring lilac almost completely disappears, and the woody notes take over, as autumn sweeps in...

As everyone else here says: it's lilacs, lilacs, lilacs. And I do love florals. On me? At the beginning it's juicy, green, indolic (a bit fecal?) lilacs. This is followed by much softer lilacs, plus something neroli-ish. The dry down is faintly sweet. Just when you think it's not really long-lasting, you get a whiff of it in the wind, or you can still smell it on your clothing hours later. Thanks for the Ineke samples onaona! I like this one!

The most realistic sweet lilac I've yet to meet. On me it's a simple solo note, but amazingly true. I was sniffing it as I was walking my dog and I happened upon some lilac bushes. The comparison was spot on. Even though I'm a complex woman, this one suits me on those days when I want an uncomplicated aura. I just sampled it minutes ago, I hope the silage is serious. So far thumbs up Ineke. You're "After My Heart".

Lilac, lilac and - can you guess? EVEN MORE lilac! The scent screams feminine, it screams spring, but in a very nice way. You can pretty much imagine a Disney princess singing to her animal friends in the forest. Nothing wrong with that! Girly girls have to smell good, too. It's probably not for me, but I could definitely see a lot of women learning to love indie scents after smelling this one.

The reviews below say it all, I'm just confirming it. This is a beautiful lilac (flower, leaves, branches, the works). On my skin it's soapy in the opening, like a lilac soap. Still beautiful. I don't get any raspberry or bergamot, just a pure lilac soliflore. My skin usually pulls bergamot (and I like that note), but not with this one. If you like lilac, this is wonderful.

This reminds me of my summers in Taiwan! Fresh laundry drying on the balcony, the smell of both natural flowers from the mountains and artificial from the detergent, the sun and the breeze. After My Own Heart isn't anything bold and dramatic, but that's what gives it charm. Definitely a 'discovered not announced' scent!

I was going through some of my old samples and decided to give this one another sniff. Without looking at the notes I knew this was Lilac. Very true fresh lilac smell. Then those green, leafy notes come in for more freshness. This is a really lovely, easy to wear floral, especially for lilac lovers.

I love lilac. That is the reason why I chose this fragrance for my tests. Was I happy with the lilac representation? Absolutely. The only thing I did not calculate with is the true melancholy of these magnificent flowers that they bring with themselves.

This is a like not a love for me. Very fresh and floral, it smells like laundry drying with a hint of lilac on the breeze. Very pleasant and clean but I don’t think it makes a huge impression. Finished the sample but I’m not dying for a bottle.

This is the promise of green spring and clouds of lilac filling the gardens. It is cool and kind of humid, elegant and hopeful. Perfect for spring, or the dead of winter when you need to remember that spring will eventually be here.

This is a very realistic lilac scent, but I have to bathe in it to get any sort of sillage at all, and unfortunately, at that level, it gives me a headache. Nonetheless, a pretty version of the real deal if lilac is your passion.

On my journey to find the best Lilac fragrance I found After my Own Heart...I sent for a sample from Ministry of Scent and hoped that it might fulfill my expectations for a lush Lilac soliflore that would take me back to the giant fragrant bushes in the sideyard of my grandmother's house when I was a child. This is a fresh, slightly aquatic, slightly soapy, slightly sweet Lilac that my nose recognizes as quite juvenile. I smell rose somehow, but perhaps that is the raspberry note that somewhat distracts from the true-to-life pale purple blossoms that I crave. Uplifting and invigorating, this fragrance feels best when I wear it after a shower on a mild spring /summer day....it's got clean-girl vibes with a dose of white musk. My brain associates this scent more with a bath product than a perfume. For me, she's not the one...she's lovely, but is she's an underclassman, and I graduated some time ago. 6.5-7/10...

It smells very pleasant and won't offend anybody. It's for a girl who is very pleasant and never offends anybody. Worn by the receptionist, not the boss. Fades to skin in a couple of hours.

This one doesn’t do much for me. I was not inclined to finish the sample. I found it too soft and feminine for my liking but also, I felt the individual notes were not identifiable and I was left with a vague sweet floral as about all the description I could muster. It is Definitely Not what I’d hope for in a lilac centric scent. And the fruit is just meh. And for the final sadness, it went soapy in the late stages and that’s a deal killer. From this house, so far I like Jaipur Chai.

Very spicy-sandalwood chemical based perfume. It smells like male skin toner or lotion. Few minutes after, lilac scent risen but not that powerful but whole scent is become different however I can not agreed other opinions that this perfume is similar with En Passant and this is pure lilac.

If you like lilac this is perfect. If you don't like lilac you'll really not like this. Very pleasant and well balanced but no doubt about the lilac.

A realistic lilac with a soft, fuzzy undercurrent. I wouldn’t seek out a bigger size than the sample I have but it’s a great buy for floral fans.

I smell this almost as a unisex/men's cologne. I am a very feminine-leaning perfume fan, so this wasn't quite for me.

This scent did for lilacs what La Chasse Aux Papillons did for tuberose: captures the starring floral in the middle of an ethereal windy day with gusts of surrounding flora dancing along side it in the breeze. This is a day outside, breathing, taking in all that surrounds you, inhaling the bundles of lilac bushes in the far off scene - in the natural scape there is more lilac than anything else. All, along from the sides of you comes wafts of heliotrope, greenery and sandalwood - it is a beautifully done three dimensional photorealistic scenery. In the past I've had a problem with heliotrope - what others are interpreting as a soapy note - but, here, it's done masterfully!! And, in my total honesty, I can say the minute I read it was in the composition I WANTED to hate it... but I couldn't. This is ENCHANTING, beautifully breezy, airy and lovely... super photorealistic! Though, I am not surprised after sampling Ineke's Hot House Flower - an INCREDIBLY PHOTOREALISTIC masterpiece - I had hoped the quality of this scent would be the same, and IT IS! This is definitely a house that is now on my radar and should be for any lover of photorealistic florals.

The initial blast of this perfume is perfect- green, lush, wet, twiggy lilacs in all their splendor. It is so dead on it reminds me of a Demeter library scent- only more gracefully done. Bergamot provides the fresh green quality in the composition, and I can't discern it individually. Although it is a top note, I don't get the raspberry until twenty minutes in...but when it does arrive, on a carpet of soap, it escorts out the green earthy notes, and I almost cry. Eventually, a candy-sweetness hijacks what otherwise would have been my top lilac scent ever- and being from the East Coast, I know my lilacs! To note: I'm not seeking an interpretation of lilac, but a faithful recreation of the purple blooming clusters of my childhood summers. I am so obsessed with this quest that I have a hard time assessing After My Own Heart simply as a perfume. I am so devastated by the obfuscation of the lilac by the raspberry- powder complex that I cannot appreciate the drydown for the pleasant, sweet waft that it is.

I like this. A lot. Way too feminine for me to wear, but would love this on my wife. Barely detect lilac in the opening, but once the light fruit and green notes settle, the lilac is there in the mid. The lilac in it is soft and demure vs. sweet and aggressive and blended in a way that after the first few minutes, the similarly soft musk is equally present. The style reminds me of Poppy Musk by Carme, which as a teen in the 80's I enjoyed on my girlfriend so much that I used to spray it on my pillow to fall asleep. Swap out the very tame poppy with a very tame lilac and we're there. After My Own Heart is good choice if you like clean, soft floral musks, but not a classic lilac scent, per se.

I'm still rather on the fence about this fragrance... When I first apply it, it smells like an expensive, french soap. Very very soapy. like, I just took a shower and am still steaming from the hot water, soapy. That being said, I actually kind of like it. On my skin, this is a very strong perfume. It wants everyone in the room to know it has arrived. While, for the most part, it stays quite linear on me, it does start to change and soften some after about 2 or so hours, leaning more floral/green than soapy, though it still smells pretty darn soapy. All in all I like it, but I'd have to have a serious self debate before commiting to buy a full bottle of this juice.
