Attar

I distinctly remember discovering this scent in Vogue Magazine in an advertisement that included the powder sample in the little fold out. I ran my wrists across that sliver of paper and was thunderstruck. I could be wrong, but I believe I had to purchase it by mail order. I wasted no time and immediately purchased it, the one and only time I've ever done that after smelling a magazine ad sample. The bottle design underwhelmed me, but the fragrance was hauntingly both mysterious and arrogant in its siren announcement that it has walked into the room. When I discovered Attar I was very much in love with Christian Dior's Dune, which has that dangerous musky spiciness to it, but Attar is a much more hypnotic oriental that feels otherworldly. And I mean that in a literal sense - as if it were made from materials from a faraway galaxy. It's palpably sexy in its rich clove & cinnamon heat that tantalizes your senses and lingers on your skin for easily more than 24 hours. I am not sure when it was discontinued but I found out when I tried to purchase it as a gift and was devastated to find it was no more; I immediately stashed my one and only bottle and only sprayed it on very rare occasions to preserve it. I still have my original bottle with 60% remaining and I am relishing in wearing her for this one special day to write this review until the next worthy 24 hours. If you find a bottle of Attar, I give you my solid heartfelt promise you will not regret whatever you have to do to bring her home.

This is the perfume that started it all for me. Up til then I had been wearing drugstore, Avon and low-end department store stuff. Then I saw a magazine ad where you could send away for a set of spray minis. It probably cost $10. That was 20 years ago! I fell in love Attar immediately and ordered a full bottle. I had never smelled anything like it before. It's essentially a powdery rose-incense scent, but the difference for me was the TYPE of rose. Instead of cloying, like most roses, this was ethereal. My full bottle is long gone, but I still have my mini and it still smells mysterious and lovely to me.

Rich, smoky incense and roses. This fragrance makes me think of mysterious women in middle eastern bazaars.... you pretty much have to watch Ebay for it, but it's worth the hunt for if you're a fan of orientals.

Beautiful 90's niche gothic rose scent. A catacomb full of rose gardens decaying alongside the skulls of holy saints. 10/10.
