L’Eau d’Issey Pour Homme Sport

This is an "Elegant Modern Sporty" cologne and a great summer fragrance in my opinion. After the initial spray I can definitely detect the citrus scent from the lemon and lime. The best way to describe it for me is like smelling a cold Sprite soda because the citrus has a little sweetness (not like 1 million sweet) smell to it, which I think is a "must" for summer colognes. The citrusy and sweetness are perfectly balanced. I don't like very sweet summer colognes, because it makes me feel sticky. Unlike other citrus summer fragrance that has a sharp citrus acidic scent, this one has a little sweetness that comes from the nutmeg and leather and not from vanilla or tonka beans. I can also detect the leather note and I think the leather scent adds "elegance" to the cologne. I can also detect the smokiness from the vetiver and woody notes from the cedar. If you like modern sporty scents, this one is a "buy" in my opinion. One more thing to add, this is not "floral" like its older brother. I can see myself wearing this with jeans, suede boots and untucked rolled up long sleeve shirt on a summer day. Not like Acqua di Gio where I can see myself just wearing jeans or shorts, flip flops and plain white t-shirt. Longevity is about 6-7 hours on my skin and sillage is about arms length to about 3 hours, then it stays close to my skin for another 3 hours. My overall rating 8/10

Hand in hand, the resemblance to Dior Homme Cologne 2013 is there, but Dior is plasticky on the edges of the fragrance, while L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homme Sport is rounder and better blended. Dior 2013 is incredibly overpriced; in this case, we're only paying for the brand name, well, DIOR, edit... and as for the interesting performance of Dior 2013, they're pathetic, for the price, of course, ...on my skin and on my friends, it lasts about 3 hours. I like to write more, but about Dior 2013, well, there's no point. At least Issey Sport has something special, that vibrant grapefruit and nutmeg do the trick. Of course, you don't smell the nutmeg directly, only on the edge of the scent, the vetiver later. It smells nice in the air, seriously... I'm testing it today in Pomerania, where it's below freezing; on warm days, it's more juicy. The performance is... generally 7-8 hours, but after 3 hours it settles closer to the skin. That doesn't mean you don't feel it. If it gets warm and moving, you'll feel it again, and after a few hours it's cedar and vetiver. On a T-shirt all day. They could make an EDP...

I am a big Miyake fan and bought the Sport version to add to my collection. This fragrance is unusual for a “sport” flanker as they usually are lighter, fresher take on the original. That is certainly not the case here. Things get interesting when the leather, wood, and nutmeg take over after the opening citrus blast wears off. Miyake Sport sheds the brand’s trademark freshness and dons a cloak of mild animalic spiciness. At this point, the sport label makes little sense to me. I like the fragrance a lot, but it seems like something more deep and alluring than something refreshing that would remind me of a sport scent. I would probably also avoid this on hot days - seems best suited for springtime and summer nights, even fall. I see this as a business- casual dress fragrance- perhaps that’s what “sport” means in this case- same vein as “sport coat”, “sportswear”, etc rather than athletic. In any case, good fragrance, strange label! I like it a lot!

This remains one of my favorite summer/sport/fresh fragrances of all time! First, it has nothing to do with the original L'Eau d'Issey. The scent is a fresh citrus scent of grapefruit & bergamot. Nothing earth-shattering but so beautifully uplifting, happy, & fresh. Then there is the woody notes: nutmeg, leather, vetiver, virginia cedar, & ambergris. They are many but they don't affect the freshness nor the lightness of this fragrance at all. They basically add depth, maturity, & distinctive character to the scent with the very mild yet unique sweet woodiness that they add. I just love this fragrance so much & I keep getting it every other summer. I have two fresh Atelier Colognes, Dior Sauvage, Chanel's Bleu de Chanel Parfum, among other fresh scents but this fragrance is what I reach for 9 out of 10 times in hot days. What a gem from Issey.

Nothing about the price, the name or the packaging here suggests that this would be anything special, but it's shockingly good. It has the classic Issey Miyake backbone, but it's more citrus forward. It's very zesty, fizzy and cooling, but not overly sharp or synthetic, very classy. As some have mentioned, it's comparable to the far more expensive Terre D'Hermes Eau Givree, but it still does its own thing. It performs better on my skin as well. The real beauty of it is that while it's more of a warm weather scent due to its citrus forward nature, it definitely works in cold, rainy weather as well, that's when the citrus takes a step back and lets the vetiver shine. You can get it for next to nothing in some places, seriously, don't sleep on this. It's highly under-appreciated.
