Coeur de Parfum / Parfum Rare

A nimbus of greens and woods is what I feel around me upon initial application of Parfum Rare EDT. Shaded here with spice, tinted there with flowers, it's a chiaroscuro where light and dark, perhaps a bit of sturm and drang, shape the experience. A coriander, warm and sensual, is prominent about five minutes in, followed by an ever unfurling geranium, rosy-verdant, ever so slightly minty and sharp. Further into its development, a shuffle between bitter marigold and sweet rose feels beguiling to me, and then there is a gilded pollen feel, beeswax-like, just a dash of pert animalic swagger, just a smidgen. The sandalwood in its dry down is just ravishing. Fans of Jacomo's other beauty, Silences, along with Aigner Explosive, Clinique Aromatics Elixir, and even dare I say, Guerlain Vol de Nuit, would likely swoon over this like I do. It actually has moments where it rather feels like a floral chypre released at least forty years prior, slightly modernized to 80s standards. It is sonorous rather than loud, more unisex than the shoulder-pad-and-attitude fragrances that were at their zenith in 1987, and could easily and favorably be compared to niche and indie chypres being currently released. Parfum Rare is sorely overlooked and unsung.

I have 2 mini's, one says PARFUM RARE Coeur de Parfum, the other says COEUR DE PARFUM. PARFUM RARE ~ I love the opening, such a nice blending of wood, spice & dark smokiness (incense & forest, not tobacco). The gorgeous iris develops & blooms in the middle phase, a bit sweet and smells like lilac in there too. A bit much for me but man, I love that base! It's a bit aromatic, and definitely unique. Thankfully the floral part blends nicely after the middle phase. The mix of feminine and earthy is really good in this one. It could be a daytime option for Vol de Nuit fans, tea-time option =]. The base is more spicy than VdN but the floral is more sunny. Reminds me of Silences, with some warmth added. The mini is cute & the spice is nice! COEUR DE PARFUM ~ To be updated. It seems less floral but I'll review this one at another time! *Update: This has a lovley aromatic woody opening, but the florals lean lilac soapy compared to Parfum Rare. It's beautiful tho!

100% positive reviews and mine will reinforce this 100% again repeated. Try. This. All perfumistas and that is an order LOL...Really, what a classic Beauty, this one. I loved Silences always and now I try a vintage mini of RARE. I may well look to Ebay to stock up as they can still be found. I wonder if RARE and RARE Coeur de Parfum are two different variations? Classy juice - all the way. I ́m a very novice nose so I wont try to name the notes, but the feeling is really uplifting - not a cloying thing is sight. And it stays close to the skin, behaving as a proper perfume should... Kissing close to smell, yet a hint of a waft, as one walks by... And agree also on the sublte and fine note of masculinity, which to me balances things so well and so missing today too often in women ́s scents... Scents to me should all be of unisex choice as if a man likes vanilla rose, he should be able to smell like that and a woman like cedarwood.

I'm enjoying a lazy Sunday and here are my quick impressions on various iterations in order of my personal preference: Extrait Parfum Rare: Hello gorgeous! Smooth operator, least powdery. EDP Coeur de Parfum, black trapezoid bottle: Most like extrait, less powdery than the Parum Rare EDT, it seems like a cross between the Parfum Rare EDT and Parfum Rare Extrait. EDT Parfum Rare, tester clear round glass: I get more rosewood. EDT Parfum Rare, clear glass trapezoid with black lid: Most green opening, most powder. But all are beautiful and the quality is amazing. To my mind, this fragrance is totally unisex. I love this on me and I would LOVE this on a man. Love, love, love! (Sorry) I picked this up at an estate sale, initially more interested in the presentation case than the perfume. It had that late 60's cheesy elegant plastic look that was so loved by people like Andy Warhol and Rudy Gernreich. I was surprised when I looked it up to find out it was from 1987 and full of notes that I would not normally list as favorites. Putting it on resolved my doubts. It's wonderful with oakmoss (obviously the real stuff), vetiver, carnation and geranium. The wood note is fabulous but it doesn't smell like sandalwood to me--more like mahogany or a darker wood. The word that keeps coming to mind as I keep sniffing this is "crunchy"--not like granola but like a handful of silk taffeta. A delightful surprise. Before this year I'd never heard of Jacomo but this is now my second perfume from them. I am impressed with the quality of the perfumes as well as the creativity of the fragrances they produce. I'm looking forward to trying the Art Collection series next. As for Parfum Rare, I smell loads of carnation, coriander, cardamom, bergamot and patchouli, with a dry down that includes orris root and incense. It's not an overly loud scent, but it definitely makes its presence known. It is a complex fragrance that smells decades older than it's creation in 1987. This is a beautiful chypre floral composition with notes that blend together gracefully. I only have the eau de toilet and can only imagine how much more rich the parfum would be, never the less, I'm very happy with my ebay purchase. Well done Jacomo!

This perfume wows me every time I put it on, it's rich and amazing, warm and very satisfying if you're looking for another vintage patch & oakmoss chypre. Coeur de Parfum has what may be my very favorite opening of any perfume I have, I love that phase of it and chronically sniff my wrists until it settles into a spicy-woody floral, which is also nice but not as beautiful as the opening. I usually find myself wishing the opening phase lasted much longer than it does, but either way it's an interesting scent due to the marked changes it goes through during each wear. Another wonderful perfume from the very underrated Jacomo.

Alors je vous en en supplie, rendez nous ce magnifique élixir (en eau de parfum évidemment, surtout pas en eau de toilette ) ! chez JACOMO vous continuer à vendre un parfum aussi insipide que AURA, par pitié, relancez la production de PARFUM RARE (eau de parfum) succès garanti et demandez à Eva Green d'en faire la pub ! VITE !

This review for Parfum Rare EXTRAIT A Masterpiece...It is beguiling, bewitching me with it's soft flowers & citrus surrounded by smooth spice and sandalwood. It's earthy and elegant. If it wasn't so precious and hard to obtain, I would wear it everyday. It just made my top 10 including Enchanted Forest The Vagabond Prince, Silences, Gucci No.3, Chamade, Moribito OR Noir and Givenchy III. If I could wear Chanel No. 5 (but I cannot wear civet) then I might compare it to that, it has that level of nuance. They simply don't make them like this any more.

My favorite perfume. Never loved another one like this one! I couldn't find it anymore here in France and after looking for it a long time, I finally gave up. I just found it on Ebay and of course, I immediately bought it. After all those years, I never thought I'd find it again. I can't wait to receive it!

I agree with both reviewers, this smells like perfume, and I mean a grand perfume. It is utterly golden and beautiful. Well blended, spices are apparent but don't take over. It smells classic and I wish it had become that.

The flip-side of Piguet's Bandit. All the edges have been smoothed, the violence and volatilities have been comfortably constrained and the chords are all humming along in a gloriously golden chorus.

My love affair with all things Jacomo continues. Coeur de Parfum/Parfum Rare is a fusty, classy old dame that surely smelled a bit dated even at the time it was introduced. It's a grand chypre floral of the old school. If you told me it was introduced in 1957 instead of 1987, I would have believed you. The closest scent to which I can compare it is Ungaro's Diva, which I loved but found unwearable on my skin. Coeur de Parfum is a bit softer, toning down the overpowering sweetness of Diva while still packing the one-two punch of oakmoss and vetiver in the base. Coeur de Parfum conjures images of powerful women in expensive evening wear, with satin-gloved hands clasping long black cigarette holders. The scent lasts all day long but seems best suited for nighttime wear. If you like sweet scents full of fruits and flowers, stay far away from this one. If you love and lament the long-gone days when women smelled like perfume instead of fruits and flowers, this discontinued classic is worth the hunt and worth the price.

Lasting power: Not so great on me. After 3 or 4 hours I forgot I was wearing anything. Fragrance: Looking at the notes pyramid up there, I say, yeah, that sounds about right, though I would move bergamot and patchouli up quite a bit. Impression: It's well done, not very sweet, leaning in a "masculine" direction, I'm guessing due to the bergamot, cardamon and coriander, to which the florals take a back seat. Oak moss: It opens with a generous amount, which softens somewhat and blends in as time passes, but, if you abhor oak moss, you probably won't enjoy this. It is likely to please the vintage connoisseur who generally likes less girly fragrances from this era. Aside from its fleeting strength, this is a really nice one.

On me this is mostly geranium leaf and oak moss. The other notes are there, but these two are prominent. When first sprayed, it reminded me of Passion. Definitely a vintage vibe and not sweet. Strong and bold and earthy. My mom likes Lauren so she may like this. I’ll share this sample vial with her.

love the vintage bottle and the 80's atomiser! ?? it was even packaged in moulded polystyrene! ever seen that inside a perfume box? (safely snuggled in there like a futuristic artefact or a new electrical gadget). on paper: a green beginning and my initial reaction is yes, this is not unlike a cyphre floral from half a century before 1987! immediately, the bergamot is prominent in this. the geranimum and spicy carnation are just lovely. i am sure i am getting aldehydes (not listed). there is a sweetness i remember from testing Arpege.....my feeling is that i am going to love this, like i hoped i would the current formulation of Arpege, (which was a massive disappointment). and if i wasn't going out to dinner in a couple of hours, then i would have had an eager squirt on my wrists! as we are talking labdanum, oakmoss, vetiver, sandalwood, orris and rose.... all favourite notes, drifting for the paper....i can't wait to wear this when i get home! i just walked back into the room where the test strip was and this smells like the opera...i mean elegant ladies who filled the theatre bar with perfume, posh chatter and crispy frocks when i was just a teenager. they would wait poised and upright as the men in black tie queued for their drinks....i would skulk to the bar in my charity shop vintage outfit, too young to drink the white wine they held by the stem and sipped, leaving thick pink lip marks. they would rustle past me to return to their seats and use their heirloom opera glasses...while i squinted from the gods, as the yet another heroine met her death at the end.

I always get nervous when I peruse a scent's notes and see my favorites, as I do here. My fear is that it will turn into a stinker, and the disappointment would be too great. But no disappointment with Parfum Rare. What a surprising find this is! I've never heard of Jacomo until it came by way of a swap (and if you look who else reviewed this, you'll have an idea who that was ;-) Parfum rare jumps right into its stride with me, not changing much over the entire wearing. So what does it smell like? A promiscuous worker bee. This is a warm, golden fragrance dusted with a buzz of spice. It has a strong powdery vibe that reminds me of bee pollen (that golden yellow dust that is heavy and sweet). This powder note is a smidge stronger than I would like, and is the only aspect that gives me pause to buy. You may want to try this if you are a fan of Organza Indecence, Parfum Sacre, or general Amber scents. This is a sunset fragrance, warm, red, and breath taking. I'll play with my sample over a few weeks and see if my opinion changes at all.

EDIT- on skin: green beginning, sharing the top notes above. lovely! vintage. lady like. special occasion. it is more bitter than sweet. orris is prominent. and vetiver. dark woody. then it develops into a dry, smokey, antique furniture perfume...(almost ashen when i smell my wrist). someone said "crispy" like taffeta. yes! it is a 1980's taffeta dress. it is as if those moments in the theatre box, were sealed for decades in a beautiful wooden box and someone just opened the lid. yes it smells old school, but it DOES also have an 80's vibe, as it shares a smoke note with LouLou, that burning plastic LouLou smoke... this combined with the smell that wafts from the inside of an old mahogany box when you open the lid. dry, smokey, dark wood. i don't want to put my Cabochard and Arpege head on, but this shares that old fashioned perfume "masculinity" that modern women's perfumes seem to lack. i love it, but i am not sure when i will have the occasion to wear it. review for vintage EDP (they call it soft perfume concentration).

Oakmoss, labdanum, coriander, spicy flowers, all of them bounded by honey. Very green and mossy as you want to be in chypre perfumes, but the green here smells fairly sweet yet still earthy. I’m sure there is honey or beeswax note eventhough not listed in the composition. One thing I notice is that the coriander quite distinctive and exists in all stages. Overall, Parfum Rare is a well composed vintage perfume, lil forgotten and under appreciated. Reminds me of: Histoire D’Amour Aubusson, Kantara Woman Albin du Roy, Rumba.

Amazing! Smooth musk and patchouli with a huge dollop of carnation, powdery, smooth, classy. The cardamom adds a superb spiciness to the whole composition and works in full harmony with the rest of the notes. This is so well blended, and could be worn by men too thanks to its amazing composition that balances beautifully sweet and dry, spicy and smooth, soft and deep. Towards the dry down the vetiver becomes intense and deep lending a more masculine vibe to the scent. A masterpiece! Couldn't recommend it more!

Worn out and totally exasperated by the interminable deluge of sweet, fruity, smell-one-smell-all, Eaux de Mallrat messes that pass for perfume these days I decided that I am going to start a hunt for my beloved vintage scents. I found some of my favorite oldies: Silences, Blazer, Creation, etc., for surprisingly reasonable prices. I had this beauty long, long time ago, but I cannot find it now for love or money. Oh, well. The scavenging continues. Maybe I will get lucky.

This review is for the Jacomo Parfum Rare EDT...... (same bottle,but clear glass/golden juice..with the same cap as shown. They don't make-em like this anymore !! Beautiful classic/vintage scent...green/earthy/rich/woody/floral chypre. In the same vein as Jean Louis Scherrer, Jacomo Silences, Givenchy III, Jil Sander II, and YSL Y, and yes...Chanel 19. This is smoooooth and luxurious.....

The opening has strong cardamom and coriander notes, the resulting sweaty aroma is unpleasant but fortunately short lived. CdP then goes on to become a lovely woody perfume, deep and rich. Sillage/lasting power is moderate, this is work safe if applied lightly. Coriander and cardamom are difficult notes, thankfully CdP is more than the sum of its parts.

does somebody can explain me the difference between the eau de parfum (black bottle) and the eau de toilette (glass bottle). Sometimes it are vey different types of odeur.

Am I the only who think it smells like (sisterly) Passion by Liz Taylor?
