Vaporocindro

Vaporocindro is the latest release from perfumer John Biebel for its independent brand - January Scent Project. After analyzing his first three fragrances in Eau de Parfum concentration (Eiderantler, Smolderose, and Selperniku), I have the feeling that John is an avant-garde perfumer as few, because his fragrances break with established patterns, creating a sense of pioneering in the current perfumery. Vaporocindro is a floral-spicy perfume and full of woody and smoky nuances. The creator himself defines it as a " Wood, Spice and Flower Vapor Perfume". Its fragrance features notes of lilac, green leaves, apple, turmeric, black pepper, jonquil, mahogany, cedar, agarwood (oud), davana, black currant, cumin, coffee, sandalwood, and ambergris. Before talking about the fragrance, it is worth explaining that the turmeric (also known as Indian-saffron) is that yellow one, often used in cooking, commonly called saffron and that has nothing to do with the real saffron (red), which is extracted from the pistils of the Crocus Sativa flower and sold as expensive as gold. Many fragrances in the market bring the note of saffron in their compositions, but believe me: rare are the cases where the real raw material is used, opting for the synthetic called Safraleine. Turmeric is from the ginger family and its aroma is earthier, while the red saffron offers smoky and leathery nuances. And the jonquil? Well, here's a lot of confusion. Some say that jonquil is the same thing as freesia. However, in theory, jonquil is a type of narcissus (Narcissus Jonquilla) and is part of the family Amaryllidaceae. The freesia, however, is part of the Iridaceae family. Vaporocindro is incredible! It touches the skin with floral nuances that dance between lavender and violet, bringing a powdered facet, which is slightly sweet. I do not feel any apple in the output. At the same time, a floral of dry and green aspect, as if it were a vegetal extract, mixes with the sweet scent of before and the fragrance begins to gain new format. Then, a hotter and spicy side emerges. Until this stage, that type of man who only wears extremely masculine fragrances can become annoyed and abandon Vaporocindro for once. A fatal mistake! The magic of Vaporocindro happens slowly and its base brings denser nuances, which are sexy and smoky, resembling a type of incense. Here is the "vapor" quoted by John. But there is no frankincense or myrrh. There is a perfect application of cumin – spicy and aniseed –, which blends with the oud in harmony. The ammoniac side comes from blackcurrant and the longevity is the result of the strong presence of mahogany and ambergris. Do we have more? Yes, a facet that resembles tobacco, but is a result of the coffee note. Vaporocindro is like those perfumes from the past that accompany you all day long and lets you notice every change in its evolution. I know I've said it before, but it's worth repeating: it's incredible!

I've really come to appreciate Vaporocindro from John Biebel's January Scent Project over the years. It is light and wispy with incredible staying power, which I love a lot in this perfume. You can spray lightly, but still smell it and enjoy it's vaporpcindorous trail for the whole day. I love the opening perhaps the most with it's lilac and green notes of apple and deciduous leaves. There is also an almost soil/dirt vibe mingling in with the lilac and apple/leaves accord that brings an outdoor garden feel which I really enjoy. As we transition into the mids, I get a spicy accord along with the narcissus flower. Some perfumes are very narcissus forward, and I enjoy many of them, but Vaporocindro doesn't push the narcissus too far out in front, and I think that John used this note perfectly for this particular perfume. Excellent blending for my tastes on this one. The spiciness is achieved with a noticeable black pepper and apparently turmeric, which I don't recognize in isolation as a note here, but I should familiarize myself with turmeric more. The drydown has a slight saltiness which I've always felt, more than smelled from narcissus flower anyway, but is representative of ambergris at this point, along with a quiet black currant, which is another note I'm quite fond of. There is some woodiness and thankfully the cumin isn't jumping out at me like a yellow armpitted gym sweater...no, it is blended into the overall composition and is well behaved. Oud is also quiet in this mix, but the coffee note is noticeable and smells nice as the sandalwood is very reserved and adds to the overall smoothness of the perfume. Just a great wear on skin that doesn't tire out my nose, which is a good thing as it has excellent longevity as mentioned in the beginning of this review. Wonderful fragrance by Mr. John Biebel

Rather than speak about the individual notes, I would like to speak about the effects. In a swirl of candied violets and cool green lilac is a fog of smoke--not birch tar or cypriol but the kind of soft velvety smoke that dry ice makes or a smoke machine on halloween; slightly perfumed and dry, enveloping and mysterious. I've never smelled a perfume like this; the closest in spirit is Vanille D'Iris by Ormonde Jayne. Hints of sweet violet candy peek out over the life of the scent but are always perfectly balanced by the drier, greener elements which eventually settle down into what ultimately reads as a slightly sweet tonka leather on my skin. Vaporocindro is light and at the same time extremely present and long lasting. It's an extraordinary perfume, my favorite of the line.

Of the 4 from John's library, Vaporocindro has now taken the #1 spot from Smolderose. Upon first spray, I was reminded of dry fig leaves even though it is not listed as a note. Thankfully though, there is no sweetness intertwined in this image of dry fig leaves. The Lilac accord mixes well with the green leaf accord. I noted that while there are several floral components to this composition, it is not overpowering as a lot of floral powerhouses often are. The jonquil provides a Gardenia-like airy spice along with the turmeric. To my nose, I do not pick up on the apple, agar, or black currant, but they may become more apparent as I spend more time with the sample I snagged. Overall, job well done.

Very strange, very interesting, not for me. All of John Biebel's perfumer's are masterpieces, in my opinion, and I'm grateful to experience all of them. This is a compelling scent, but I can't really imagine wearing it out and about (although I've said that before about perfumes that ended up being favourites so who knows). This is totally unique and has a lovely balance of lilac and turmeric. Unique spicy!

Sharp, yet smooth, dark, powdery sweetness with a lilac woody bubble. I’ve had this for at least 5 years now and am still wowed by how uniquely beautiful it is. I can’t stop sniffing my arm. Would I wear this out? Heck yeah!! This is definitely a date night fragrance. Projection = 8.5 (perfectly strong, not cloying), Longevity = 8.5 (8-10 hrs on skin), Scent = 9

This is the lilac bomb that I have been looking for ever since I started this fragrance journey. There have always been lilac bushes right outside my home as my mom loved the smell as it quote, "reminds me of spring and summer and the new joy that brings." Never really knew how much that idea was ingrained into me until I smelled this perfume for the first time. It's been a long time since then, but even to this day I still get that same reaction every time I put it on. Whenever I want a reminder of home, or to try to remind myself that the snow is only temporary I wear this perfume. Off first rip I get this super powdery and light lilac with a hint of sweetness from the green apple in the background. A big green dew drop on the flowers of the lilac as if it is a nice 55 degrees Fahrenheit spring morning. A beautiful and POTENT opening that just brings a smile to my face. This opening can and will fill a room that u spray it in, but it's very light and inoffensive in the air. Smelling this opening up close is exactly like sticking your head in the dewy lilac bush, could be overwhelming, but this fragrance shines in the air. It spreads out and gives you wisps of beautiful lilac. Then as it dries down, the lilac still is the main show as a bit of narcissus and pepper peak their head out in support of the flower instead of that green dew and apple. A luxurious and beautiful transition as the set up for the majority of the scent. Then as it dries to it's main portion, a luxurious, dark, and smooth wood becomes the greatest partner the lilac could ask for. A odd yet welcomed slight coffee grounds scent mixing in to give a slight edge to the wood that is amazing. The oud here being extremely wood and dark, like a dark oak log that's been freshly cut. Then it dries down to a beautiful sappy wood that sits close to the skin. I cannot gush about this scent enough purely for the nostalgic reason, let alone the master craftsmanship that went into it. Will be my favorite lilac scent for the foreseeable future, and I don't think many people would disagree. If you like the smell of lilac, then you need to get your nose on this. Amazing performance and projection as well. Perfectly unisex.

There is something about John Biebel and January that I like. It's hard to explain but there is this realness, this open and friendly quirkiness. I'm the first to admit, I'm iffy on indie. I'm more of a fan of classic perfumery, but like any form of art, there will be something outside of your usual realm that catches your attention and you fancy, and you can't even describe why. I knew as soon as I saw the label for January that I would like it. That might sound crazy but it's true. The style label he chose told me something about the fragrances I would be smelling. I also like how he called it a "scent project". There is something unassuming and "no pressure" about it, almost like being invited over to hang out. I have enjoyed all 3 of his previous releases with Eiderantler being my favorite. Now comes Vaporocindro and I mean, come on, is that name cool or what? John gets an A+ for names that's for sure. Now on to the fragrance. I opened the envelope and in usual January fashion, was met with potency. I hadn't even taken the cap off yet and I got a whiff of this floral craziness that immediately drew me in. What is this?? This guy is a mad scientist! I sprayed it and was like whoa! This is one unique fragrance. I get a rush of Lilac and green notes combined with deeper things like dark wood and earth, spilled espresso and fruit. I imagine this long weathered mahogany table in a dimly lit dining room, espresso cups half filled from earlier in the day, with a fresh bouquet of violet and yellow flowers, a dose of out of place femininity and freshness in an otherwise dark and sort of dusty and masculine room. The flowers drift through occasionally, passing a fireplace and books stacked not so neatly, as they are well read. Is this a fragrance for me? Probably not, it's not my style, but does it have to be to be appreciated? But it's most definitely a fragrance for someone. And I'm most definitely intrigued by it. There is a lot of pressure on a new perfumer to put out a new fragrance after the initial intro. But John has most definitely succeeded with Vaporocindro. Because he has kept me intrigued.

This is an unexpected beauty. I received it with several others from a wonderful lady in the Netherlands. I looked at the notes, read the description and reviews, and thought - not for me. But yesterday, I gave it a try. I was looking for something spicy and different from the vanilla heavy gourmands I've been wearing. Well, this is definitely different. This is deep and woody and delightfully spicy. This is a robust mix of fruits and flowers, smooth woods, and a heady mix of spices. The first couple of hours, I found it a tiny bit too woody for me, but as time went on, what remained was an incredibly well mixed and well balanced spicy concoction. And it remains for hours. Even the next morning, I caught the occasional whiff of spice. Just beautiful warm spice. Not your typical "smells of Christmas" spice - something deeper and darker, like you've wandered off into an Asian market and found yourself lost among the bags and boxes full of colourful and bold spices and incense. You stop, take a deep breath and find you can't pick out just one scent, but a beautiful melange of all things exotic. The oud is wonderful and I'm not normally an oud lover. This one is soft and a bit sweet - the perfect foil for the spices. In short - this is not your Christmas candle scent. This is deep and comforting and unusual. It projects well (a little goes a long way), and it lasts forever. This beauty I dismissed may have to be replaced by a full bottle. An interesting addition to my wardrobe.

First of all im so happy to be able to test this scents , I have been curious about them for a wild ,But never thought il get a chance to test and get to know them . But im in luck and won a give away a sample set and here i am . This one is a beauty on my skin .First thing i could clearly smell the lilac and narcissus , What a spring bouquet it was .Truly bliss on cold winters night . Then the lilac dissapers on my skin pretty quikely. Leaving me with a big bouquet of Narcissus very thick and natural , like all of the scents i have tested so far . So so true to earth and natural notes . it has a waxy feal kind of thick green spicy but totaly floral. It does InFact reminds me quit abit of Estee Lauder Privat collection ,and this one i love , this is slightly warmer and deeper in the waxy woodyness. I can detect somthing that reminds me of anis as well in the mix , lifting it up a bit. sillage wise this is strong potent stuff. I had just a tiny sprits on my arm and its a bit overwelming , But i think im a bit sensitiv to scents at the moment as well . But i have a feeling this scents are more potent then week . This is a big winner and a Im very greatfull to be able to test .

This opens with a beautiful uncultivated field, open, sunny, with patches of green, purple shade and orchards all around. I take fresh flowers, moist stems and stalks dry, cumin, green apple, chamomile, cedar, dark woods, sweet black berries. There is a beautiful wet narcissus that puts order and cleanliness in this "messy" garden without making me think about the laundry. Beautiful, natural, it manages to project me elsewhere and therefore I like it. It is green and never seriously sweet. It has a nice texture which I believe comes from coffee, turmeric, oud and yellow flowers. A kind of spicy pollen smoke. Pleasant, particular and natural with an image of a floral forest that somehow reminded me of Oeilleres. Without edges, simpler, fluid, light, not demanding and .. soothing. Good!

The combined notes are playing tricks on me. Opening features a thick, waxy floral. According to my nose that flower is lily, though I see only daffodil and lilac listed so maybe that’s the combined flower note? Hmmmm....then I’m picking up incense, plus a petroleum and turpentine note in the dry down. Maybe the Oud and ambergris? In this stage I’m also picking up a woodworkers shop. And Crayons. Interestingly, it all comes across as a natural scent. So yes, Vaporocindro is a chameleon. There are definite stages of development, it’s not a static scent. I like it but probably would not wear it. Intriguingly I move on to another January Scent sample.

Opens with tons of realistic pretty lilac, slight green apple skin, and ambergris, mellowing down to arnica (green notes) and daffodils. By basenotes the apple has faded out and I begin to get some dry woods. This is very pretty and spring-like, leans feminine with gentle sillage and moderate lasting power. I get a lot of Arnica, I’m almost positive it’s the green element here. Base features coffee (how creative!) and more ambergris. This fragrance goes from cool to warm.. which is a great theme for a spring fragrance. You can really sense the thought put into this.

All of the January fragrances are interesting and unique. Vaporocindro opens with a floral statement possibly with narcissus and lilac and with brown spices and musk on the side. The florals later withdraw and the stage is set for a musky/spicy dry down. It is unique and quite beautiful and rather long lasting. Unisex.

There is nothing floral about this. It is a smokey incense. I love incense frags. This is a good one.

This is reminding me of a specific cheap Halloween candy popular among cheapskates in the 90s, a light brown taffy in a parchment wrapper. It was pretty flavorless but for some reason it had a strong smell. I’ve been searching on google but can’t find the name. By candy I don’t mean it’s sweet, but it has a bit of a stale rooty vibe mixed with chemicals and a screechy floral on top. Xvxmatthewxvx reviewed this three below, listing ammonia, acetone and hairspray. And somehow this combines to remind me of this old candy, that one in your Halloween basket you tried unsuccessfully to trade away.

Wow, what flower bomb of lilac, violet and white flowers soapy smell with a background of musk. Reminds me of those little lilac soaps I remember my aunt having. Sadly after about 30 minutes I had to shower it off, as a man, this just does not work for me. It is nicely composed, but a scrubber for most men, I’m afraid.

When I sprayed my sample of Vaporocindro I found myself thrown back to my childhood of chronic strep throat. I was a generally unwell kid whose parents rejected the docs' recommendation that I have my adenoids removed, and I had to take antibiotics often. Before I could swallow pills, I was prescribed pink amoxicillin syrup. Any American of a certain age has probably tasted it one time or another--the rank fungal sharpness of penicillin masked with artificial strawberry bubblegum, plus an afternote of powdered latex. This is almost exactly what the topnotes of Vaporocindro conjure for me. Probably what I'm describing is mostly the lilac, but for me the amoxicillin reference is uncanny and unmistakable. I let the frag stay on my wrist long enough to evaluate the earthy notes messing around below--the notes say turmeric, but another reviewer here noticed arnica, which really tracks for me more--then I scrubbed it off. I appreciate this for its complexity and for John's ability to evoke emotional experiences, but I'm curious how wearable this really is for most. I tend to "hang out" in indie mixed-media or natural perfumery, so offbeat stuff is not unfamiliar, but this is a bit edgelordy for me. It seems like I'm in the minority based on the reviews though.

I transport myself to a very dense forest full of trees. But there are a huge diversity of trees and so a huge variety of woods there! The weather is a bit humid and you can see that inside the forest there are lilac planted. On the trees you can see bee’s hives and on them there are plenty of propolis! You are inside this forest and sudenly there is this wind carrying powdery turmeric (it is diluted on the wind) - the source of this turmeric is not relevant for the moment - and this wind pass through the tree’s woods, the lilac and the hives/propolis and you are immediately hit by this wind that carries all of this formula and it ambraces you beautifully! Even though is not an official note, I can definitely smell the propolis profoundly here and what a beautiful feeling! I absolutely adore this fragrance! Its uniqueness makes it complex and special! A truly masterpiece!

Oh wow. This house is always a challenging and interesting ride. This is super complex, once again. Really big on the fresh greens, definitely a purple floral vibe I even get a little feeling of the parma violet candies. But the spices are definitely beneath there too. Tumeric, pepper coffee are pronounced but of course beneath the fresh greens and florals. The tumeric is super fresh too. Very earthy and realistic, fresh flower bouquet with something spicy baking in the background. Gives you a cottage on the farm kind of feel. Really like it, superb lasting power. Would I buy it? Probably not...I'll have to reevaluate in the springtime, definitely not an autumn vibe. Lasting power brutal! 7 hours later still going strong. More the honeyed spicy notes and slight green herbs.
