Terre Initiale

Fragrance is such a subjective affair, oh my.. In contrast to the other reviewers, I have a startlingly beautiful experience with this. Only one con, let's get it out of the way: I wish it lasted longer (however, I usually love hyper beast-mode scents, so..). Now, for the pros. It's expertly blended. A warm, inviting, very sexy (but very chic) herbal juice. The medicinal aspect only keeps it from getting too sweet, it's not stand-offish. I get very distinct chamomile and clary sage, neither of which are stated in the notes. In the dry-down I get tame smoke and leather, but only as a soft cushion, nothing piercing. Fruits, what fruits? The sweetness might stem from them but they don't distinctly show up either on me or my husband. I'd call it boozy rather than fruity. I wear it around the year, it brings something different to the table when temperatures change. I'd classify it as absolutely unisex and versatile. This is both work and date-night appropriate (although co-workers might gravitate toward it, I don't think HR would get involved). This, to me, is SO far from boring, as others state below. Ain't fragrance a trip?

This is especially drunk at first with red berries and dusty patches in the finish. In the middle I distinguish the wormwood well, which takes it to areas that are a little more masculine. Linear, a little smoky and medicinal. Boring.

Overwhelming citrusy berries followed by sugar-coated wormwood; all based over a cloyingly sweet, ozonic, mainstream patchouli-floral-melon fruity effect. Quite strong and sickening.

In the opening it is quite bitter and herbal. After an hour it dries down and there are fruits. It is more woody than fruity, but the fruits give it a good twist.
