Marlowe

Marlowe for me is pure unadulterated Magic and not like anything I have ever worn or smelt before or since! When I first tested it, I recoiled slightly, with a kind of "what on earth is that?" response. Then as it gradually settled, something slowly appeared, something I liked! As it continued to mature on my skin, all sorts of magic started happening and I couldn't stop sniffing my wrist. The lady perfume expert who recommended it also sniffed my wrist and said, "Wow, are you wearing another perfume too, that smells incredible?" Answer "no". Since that first encounter, Marlowe has continued to surprise and confuse me. Some days I can hardly smell it at all, other days I am surrounded by a cloud of it. Sometimes it is sharp and chemical and super modern, almost futuristic, like something out of a sci-fi film, if there was smellavision! Other days it's almost Shakespearian in nature, which I guess fits with it's name. On those days it smells of leather and wax polish, bonfires and old furniture (but in a good way), a bit like a lovely cosy old library. I LOVE Marlowe! It took me a while and I'm sure it will have it's haters, but for me it is still a magic potion in a bottle! 💕

I admit I blind bought this since S Ramsey loves it I knew it had to be a winner. This is an interesting scent in a good way. I like tuberose and also osmanthus so intrigued as to how they would work together. One is a serious diva. They are well balanced with the Elemi, leather and Myrhh. I love the smokiness brought in by the Myrhh. The resins and flowers are evident on the opening but the osmanthus is really evident after 15 mins or so. It never gets really heavy as the oakmoss cuts through the other notes. Its perfectly unisex. It's soft, almost powdery and smoky. The tuberose, elemis and myrhh keep going right to the end but the leather is not far behind. This is a scent that is mostly about tuberose and resins. Good longevity and sillage.

What I love about this scent is the warm and cool contrasts. Mostly what I smell is a peachy osmanthus and incense of the cool, churchy kind. There's a dank basement feel to this perfume-which for me is a good thing. Not green, or mildewy, just damp and cold, slightly musty. My husband said it smells like tobacco, but I still don't get that. I suppose my imagination can come up with something that can connect what I smell to Christopher Marlowe, but I enjoy it just for the scent, without all the back story. It's definitely my favorite from the line.

Woody tuberose over myrrh. I was expecting it to be extremely bitter according to some reviews I've read, but Marlowe was not. I wouldn't describe it as a traditional tuberose though, mostly because it's really dry. It's an original take on the Queen of White Flowers. Instead of being set in a garden along with dewy gardenia and jasmine, the tuberose in Marlowe has been dried, crushed into powder, sprinkled into a peculiar potion of myrrh, mastic (lentisque), dry woods and leather. Tuberose for badasses, I would say. I love it !

For the hommage of this brawling and homosexual poet, suspected of espionage and heresy, who claimed "he who does not like tobacco or boys is missing something", Anaïs Biguine did not hesitate to compose a disturbing, intriguing perfume, ambiguous and lovable by both sides. A camphor tuberose complicit with a narcotic osmanthus is draped in soapy, zesty and spicy aldehydes, creating a strident and dissonant melody, velvety and pungent. To put some theatricality in his life. I'm in love with this Drama King.

Midnight poems - that's what this fragrance is! I went to the shop having particularly liked Junky from the same house, bought it, sprayed a couple of others, went away to have a light lunch and stroll around the shops, and 1 hour later went back to the shop and swapped Junky for Marlowe! I was that impressed! It is a gorgeous myrrh, elemi, labdanum and leather perfume, no idea why almost everyone stresses the tuberose as major component!

It says in the website were I bought this fragrance that Marlowe is unisex. Here on Fragrantica it says for women. I definitely think Marlowe is unisex. At first spray you get tuberose with myhrr, a cross between woman and man. I also smell sweet incense. The dry down is the most beautiful part of this fragrance. I get a little bit of cedar and leather. This is a must try for those who love tuberose and myhrr.

Office friendly and well-behaved - and not in a bad way. If you’re into the notes, this might be an inoffensive version of what you normally wear.

Ignore the notes and try it. It’s so dreamy. Woody and soapy, thankfully not the standard abrasive tuberose. Love.

For me, a near miss - it has all the notes to make me go weak at the knees, but there's something off in the combined effect of the sharper florals and the warmer resinous stuff underneath. Paradoxically both cool/fresh and dark/warm at once, which is quite a trick to pull off. Unfortunately, for me, in the middle, something bad happens where the two sides meet, and the myrrh begins to go a bit soapy/cloying. Disturbing shades of gel air fresheners. The overall effect is somehow a bit Victorian, conjuring up a dark fusty man den with some extremely overbearing flower arrangements breaking through the gloom. It's all a bit Gothic (in an 18th-century-literary way, not a Norwegian black metal way.) A true unisex, seems really organic and full of natural, subtle shades - it's genuinely intriguing and distinctive. Yet it just can't get me over the final hurdle. Longevity's a bit limp, too - 4h max on me. so: absolutely not a waste of time and worth experimenting with. If you want a considerably darker, more daring, more unisex take on tuberose, it could be splendid for you. Don't blind buy it though. In my opinion ONLY, 7/10.

Was immediately attracted to this by the notes, which bring together a few things I love but couldn’t quite picture together, and this composition really makes them work. Smells suitably “historic” - I get incense, leather-bound books, candle wax, tea leaves - but with a very forward, clean and bittersweet tuberose and osmanthus accord that stops it smelling dusty or heavy and sets it apart from other “library/church” scents. Elemi is not my favourite resin by and large but it’s very detectable and plays a clear role in bringing together the heavy/resin and soapy/fresh sides of the fragrance, without being too sharp or medicinal. Really shows off tuberose as a unisex note as well as a pleasantly restrained one here. Feels undoubtedly “niche” but not at all difficult to wear: you’ll smell different, but not offputting, to others with this on, and it radiates without overwhelming. Could easily be tempted by a full size particularly given it feels very fairly priced.

First of all...I must stress this..you must let the notes "do their thing" on your skin and with your chemistry...and allow yourself to find the beauty of the drydown. Osmanthus/tuberose...musky and a tad smokey. The tuberose is not indolic..IMO. I thought the elemi would be a problem in this...but it helps in the balance somehow. In comes the myrrh/labdanum/moss.This is NOT tuberose soli-flor...the other notes are apparent and present. Great sillage/projection...but not cloying or overwhelming,IMHO. A gem !!!!!!! EDIT: OMG...the drydown !!! Tuberose takes the backseat now..but stilll there, and the myrrh and other notes are there...all balanced out. "Almost" goes chypre on me. LOVE...love..LOVE. Unisex for sure, btw.

Osmanthus fans will love this, very evident apricoty composition, which blooms best from a decent spray, rather than a drop. Has good longevity and a very pleasant drydown. The myrrh is slightly soapy (or perhaps myrrh and osmanthus combine in this way?) and I can barely find any leather. It's soft, comfy and fruity rather than smoky, to my nose, but I don't often wear fruity notes, so I'm noticing that as a primary. Very pleasant but try it first, and if you seek out apricot/osmanthus notes, I'm sure you'll be buying a FB.

This ain't your grandmas tuberose! Tuberose is one of my most hated notes as it usually overpowers any other note but in this it's rather subdued. This is a rather dense and somewhat sweet fragrance. Not as resinous as you would think. I have not sampled any of the scents that members compare it in previous reviews but I would say it leans a little more feminine than masculine. Overall, it's likeable but not loveable.

This is a unisex fragrance (even the label says it is a 'mixte', which means unisex) leaning a bit towards the masculine side. A tuberose of exceptional longevity. A walk in a forest, though we have no reference to the hay and the grass. It reminds me remotely of Enchanted Forest by The Vagabond Prince and this is good.

Well..its not great. It feels unfinished somehow. Its like a thinned down male version of Youth Dew with some added spice. Elemi is very prominent on me, not myrrh and tuberose as I had hoped for. Based on the notes I had such high hopes for this but its just not right. Its a slightly medicinal male youth dew. Not good.

Unexpectedly soapy. Extremely soapy. Tuberose is prominent and there's a very clean leather but I have to work hard to detect the osmanthus and labdanum. I was hoping for something more resinous and less soapy. So, so soapy.

if you do not watch the pyramid, it is difficult to determine the components of this bliss. Unisex? Perhaps, I have not yet heard how it sounds on male skin, but I would call unisex with the acquisition to the female side. In this fragrance, I would have singled out more osmanthus than tuberose. At the very beginning it is very well felt. soon myrrh and something very warm-woody-mossy enter. very beautiful. I did not hear the skin at all, however, as well as vetiver. But the most interesting, opened up and remained on the skin in some kind of fudge. I couldn’t believe it and made the second venture, everything was repeated just like in 1 time. If you do not see the composition and feeling such disclosure, I would definitely say that there is an iris in this fragrance (not the iris root, but the iris, which makes the perfume fudge). Will this miracle please the fortitude? Personally, I was pleased, this is not the word! Kept 11-12 hours, after the shower the smell on the skin is preserved! Of course, it was no longer intense, but nevertheless it was preserved! Considering that on my skin very often the fragrances "fly off", unfortunately, the skin of the Snow Maiden, there are fragrances that stay insanely for a long time. Marlowe was one of those. Sensual and sexy aroma, everything in it is nice, beautiful and good.
