JD Grand Cuir

Another unique fragrance from Jeffery Dame. JD fragrances are going up in price at $115 for a 50ml bottle so I was glad to find a used bottle that had very little juice absent for $40. Thats about the price I paid for the same size bottle of Juste Filthy about 3 years back. The name Cuir implies that this is a leather fragrance although I find it to be much more than that . This fragrance actually predates Jeffery Damme or JD Parfums. It is listed above in the smells like column and It was called Grand Cuir by Parfums Retro and that was also Jeffery Dame that made that one. Check the notes because they are the exact same fragrance and nose that made it. Now upon smelling this fragrance one thing that did puzzle me about the notes listed and the fragrance I was getting an animalic note and I wasn't sure why. I did not see Civit , Deer Musk ,Hindu Oud or any other pissy or fecal note that would give this undertone. So in my curiosity I began looking for reviews and an explanation of what might be creating this impression. A complex frag. It Opens with a sharp neroli-ish geranium. Shortly after, a carnation/rose/moss/pine combo takes the lead, supported by lavender which will give some sharpness and a very noticeable clean musk which will give a soapy vibe to this blend. In the drydown, the florals will be slightly toned down, and let discreet patchouli and woody notes combo appear. Projection is great in the 1st hour, but will fall to soft by the 3rd hour. To me, like Knize Ten, this is a masculine musky floral, not a leather fragrance. Sorry for the fanboys, but Grand Cuir does it better than Knize Ten imo. One MUST appreciate old school frags to appreciate this one. I do, but you've been warned. A big love for me. Colder days, 30+

I have a few from this house and so far they have not disappointed. This is a very good take on a classic gentlemen's cologne. Very well put together and the smell is excellent. For only 38.00 plus shipping on Amazon, you'd be silly not to order one. They sent me two samples from the same line and they also are excellent. 9/10

Men will like this. It's definitely for men, and not a unisex fragrance at all. I bought it because I like many of the notes, especially the rose, carnation, cinnamon, geranium, pine, patchouli. So I wondered if this would be a modern woodsy, leathery fragrance, or something else. It's something else. It' a traditional men's scent, with good mix of notes, but the entire effect is quiet, understated. Starting with a quick burst of lavender and a slight bit of violet, it's followed nearly immediately by the cinnamon, which seems to me to be the main heart note. The moss and the sandalwood are the main base notes, and they soften the effect within the first hour. It mellows out to a woodsy sandalwood that's very calm. I wouldn't say the projection is very good, but you'll smell it on your skin 7+ hours. It's really too masculine for most women to wear, even me. I'll probably gift it to a male friend for Christmas. He'll be amazed I ever bought any man's scent this traditional. (Well, cinnamon is one of the heart notes.)

Grand Cuir open with a very sharp, green scent with some leather. As the dry down proceeds, the florals become much more pronounced. It became way too floral for my taste. As Grand Cuir continues to evolve, the florals retreat a bit and a dry leather accord comes to the forefront. The leather scent is mild and sits on top of that floral base. Grand Cuir is easily unisex. A woman who generally likes leather would have no problem wearing it. It is way too floral for my taste. Longevity was good; got about 8 hours out of Grand Cuir. Projection was more modest.
