JD Juste Filthy

Sock it to me, this is one overt animalic! I love it. The civet note in the opening is massive, and there is definitely some dirtiness going on here. JD's website says there is skatole in this...they must have had some fun in the formulating. Juste Filthy growls and shows his claws early on, then settles down into a warm and smooth, but prominent, panther purr. It comes across as a bit harsh at first, then everything blends in and smooths out within 20 minutes or so on my skin, and stays that way until I shower. If some transfers to my bathrobe, it is very much there until I wash the robe. Super performance. There is an herbal, aromatic, "barbershop" layer that sticks around for me. Sometimes I want to modify that some, so I've got ongoing layering experiments. So far, I like Juste Filthy layered over with a bit of Dame Perfumery Rose Soliflore. I find the rose stands up to the animalics and adds a nice floralcy to the whole. Then there is my 2016 bottle of Shalimar. I think Shalimar is wonderful, but I find the modern stuff thin smelling. A bit of Juste Filthy with the Shalimar adds some "oomph" that brings the Shalimar to life for me. I'm not one to chase after vintages, so I'm happy that I can now better enjoy wearing the Shalimar that I have. I have dared to wear 3 sprays of Juste Filthy outside the house. In the car and soon after spraying, I got comments of "What are you wearing?" and "Whoa, that sure is animalic!" These comments were not meant to indicate a negative reaction, but curiosity. Otherwise, the whole evening I noticed no comments or wrinkled noses from anyone. Based on my experience, Juste Filthy can apparently be worn safely in public. Great modern animalic!

SO intrigued by the descriptions of the new JD line I ordered the 2ml oil samples of 7 of them. (Passed on Duality and Mimosa, which I sort of regret.) Vanille Farfelue is apparently out of stock but the other 6 arrived today and I immediately glommed on to Juste Filthy because, well OK, the name. Juste Filthy on my clean/warm/winter-dry female skin isn't filthy AT ALL which is just fine with me, although I'd imagined something on the dark side of masculine and more sexy/raw animalic based upon the descriptions/reviews posted to date. So, if not what I expected, what do I perceive? First, I seriously doubt anyone would describe the warm fragrance cloud surrounding me as even slightly masculine but I'll wear it to work next week to verify that. Second, I perceive not the slightest hint of cumin (my cumin reference is my 100ml bottle of McQueen's Kingdom) which is to say not even a hint of unwashed skin. Third, a well blended vein of florals definitely weaves its way through the mix although I can't sense any of the individual floral notes cited in the pyramid (so kudos to Dame for perfect blending). Fourth, Juste Filthy on my skin is ALL about the musk. My surprised and delighted conclusion: The relaxed and happy vibe I'm getting is of powdery, sweetly clean warm musky KITTY FUR. Seriously, if this fragrance had an auditory component it would be loudly PURRING with contentment right now. I'm 2 hours in with just small dabs of the oil on my wrists that I then rubbed against my neck and I can't stop smiling. Edit: Delighted to report I'm the proud owner of a FB of this "kitty fur nose candy"! I highly recommend obtaining a sample if you're even a smidge curious.

Attention Vintage musk and animalic perfume fans. If you miss the DNA along the scent profile as things like the original Kouros, you have found it! Major animalics here on the opening. This also has Skatole. For those that are a little rusty on chemistry, this is the molecule that gives certain "animalics" their characteristic scents. Now, don't let this scare you because I said this smells like vintage Kuros not poop. You'll need to give this perfume some time to reach drydown and you will be rewarded with a nice base that lasts on my skin. Someone here wrote that this perfume gives them hope for the future and I agree 100%. I am happy to support a small American brand with some quality, reasonably priced juice that doesn't pay youtube reviewers to shill for them. I'm still testing but I can say that projection is good and this frag is still singing on my skin after a couple hours. My skin generally devours fragrance. I'm not sure if they use real civet, but it smells similar to Dusita Oud Infini which I know uses the real thing. It's well done, synthetic or not. If you miss the original Kuros, it's back although if you have the original I'd say stick with that.

OMG! Thast was first words after spraying it straight on my skin. The name YUSTE FILTHY fits fragrace very well. For all who complain about mainstream fragrances that are too safe, simple and no character here you are. The answer to your prayers and it is not expensive at all. This fragrance has something vintage and dearing in it. I would not cut it down on notes. It is awesome scent that hits you from the first notes and lasts for hours and hours. I see Jeffrey Dame is sometimes visiting these pages. Vary good job! I feel like I just was riding horse whole morning and tired, dusty and sweaty enjoy afternoon breeze. Very powerful stuff. Some fragrances have transport property and this one is definitly one of them. What I mean by transporting property? It's ability of fragrance to transport you in your toughts and feelings to diferent place, time or particular activity.

JD.... You do great work on this line with your sidekick Hugh. Im not going to dissect it. Its a super modern animalic fragrance. Read what I just said again. A super modern animalic fragrance. Theres not many in the marketplace. If they are, your talking about niche prices. And hes done something I normally complain about using modern animalics..hes smoothed them out into a naughty, warm, rich, creamy, velvet animalic. Its not spiky, off putting or sharp. JD gets how the past greats used animalics. This is a reference piece for anyone that wants to understand how they are to be used properly. Im a huge vintage animalic lover. JD has cracked it. Modern Animalic . If you like Mkk, Bal, Any civet/ musk driven scent...this is worth checking out Awesome on its own, or layered. Call me a dirty birdy... Edit: layer this with Fracas or Labdanum Doux
