JD Musc Neutre

Musc Neutre is for me much more about a sensation or "vibe" than a scent. What I can actually smell is not much, a very light, pleasant scent like a freshly washed fuzzy blanket. Not a fabric softener functional scent, it's way better than that. I guess I'm anosmic to parts of this too. However, what I can smell stays with me a long time, I'd say at least 12 hours. If that's all there was though, I'd pass this one by. However, I get a calming, comforting vibe wearing this musc blend, what I call the "aahhhhh" factor, like a sigh of content. I experience this with several of my perfumes that have musk in them, but not always. An upside to Musc Neutre is that I can layer it with just about anything, to amp up the "aahhhh" factor. My first bottle of Musc Neutre is getting a lot of use. For one, I find Musc Neutre layers very well with the New Musk. New Musk smells beautiful on its own, but layered with Musc Neutre it takes on a greater depth and richness for me. I'm often wearing this combination while winding down at the end of the day. Sigh.... If you get a pleasant vibe from white musk, or if you like white musk in general, I think Musc Neutre is well worth trying a sample.

I love this. I had received a sample jar of the creme in a swap, and used it as a hand creme without noticing any discernible scent while applying. Ten minutes later, this yummy cloud surrounded me. It gives me a scent memory of 1970s Coty Wild Musk, but Musc Neutre is decidedly less floral and more unisex. It doesn't catch in my sinuses like, say, Lutens Clair de Musc does, not as odd/mushroomy like Bruno Acompora, much longer lasting than any Body Shop conconction. It's also quite affordable. If you're an old lady like me who remembers what 1970s musk oils were like and wore and enjoyed them then, you will probably enjoy this.

This is very enjoyable for those I want a scent on but don’t want anything strong or too perfumey days; I received a sample of the cream along with one of my orders, if the scent is anything like the cream; just enough scent that your skin feels refreshed and cozy..I’ll definitely have to spring for a FB soon. I like to put the lotion on before bed (nice to bed scent) think this will also be nice for those hot summer days when you just wanna feel clean and not sticky/cloying, not limiting to just summer this is definitely one of those great for anytime scents.

This is the purest musk I've ever smelled in my limited experience. I feel like it's better as a learning tool about the basics of musk than as a perfume on its own however. If you're looking for something that holds only a musk note like I was, it's perfect! Update: The more I wear it, the more I love it, and I really can't get enough. It's lovely and there and bright and beautiful and it's the first perfume I every got a compliment on. So. It's great. In my mind the definitive 'white'/skin musk.

deb.martinez this is indeed possible with a pure musk perfume. Specific anosmia may occur with musk, certain people can't sense the note - even with four different musk molecules in the formula. In early trials I found JD MUSC NEUTRE overwhelming in scent character and reduced the concentration slightly in the final formula so it's not overpowering. If you are unable to smell JD MUSC NEUTRE people around you can still pick it up, but of course that's no fun. J

I love and i hate this one at the same time. This thing works so strangely. You can barely smell it the closer you get but it hovers above the skin. It forms a scent bubble around you. It does smell like some musk oil I tried years ago but without the yucky notes and much softer. It’s the best pure musk I’ve smelled so far. It sort of smells similar to a baby or a scented baby doll. Has an almost warm and cozy smell. This is not a white musk. I hate that it is too buttery and milky. I personally do not like milk in fragrances. For something that smells barely there, it has a lot of presence and persistence. I’m not sure what this would smell like if the buttery and milky notes were removed. Would it even have a smell? 😆 This does smell fresher the further away from my skin. I’m curious to smell Dame’s other musk offerings. I hear those have more accompanying notes. This could be FBW if the butter and milk were softer or completely removed.

Loud, rugged musk on me, however pleasant enough. It hits the sweet spot of neither leaning too fresh laundry-esque nor sweaty skin musk. It doesn't really do it for me on its own, but works well for layering and giving fleeting scents some oomph. Definitely unisex but I think it would sparkle more on a man. Lasts forever. I received a free sample but it really is a decent value, as is the rest of the JD line.

Compared to Dame's other musk offering (under the Dame Perfumery label), Musc Neutre is brighter and fresher--more clean smelling and higher energy, but not overwhelming and no animal lurking in the background. This is a fantastic "close quarters" scent and is perfect for meetings, air travel, etc. And at $38 for 50 ml, it's an unbelievable bargain!

Musc Neutre is a light and clean skin musk. It's pretty but very hard to detect. A totally non-offensive and office friendly unisex scent. I prefer Dame's New Musk over this. New Musk is perfectly pleasant and non-offensive too, but just has a little more oomph. I think I'll try layering Musc Neutre with New Musk. That may be a great combination!

Very smooth musk. I think this falls into the category of "your skin but better," but I like this a whole lot better than others I've tried, like the Escentric molecule line.

I'm in love with the idea of this fragrance. I'm not sure how much of it is my own smell receptors, but to me, this perfume has almost no sillage until you lean in very close, but unbelievable longevity (even outlasting my attars which are known to cling on all day!). It's private, it's subtle, it's a sexy concept! However, its minimalism is also to its detriment; it feels powdery and dry (though not soapy, thank god) but it doesn't have much else going for it and works best when layered with another scent--and I'm not usually opposed to single-note fragrances. Typically, musk scents give me a headache and make me nauseous and I have a very low tolerance for them, but since this one is so understated, I can actually stand this one. (My sister can't, though! She hates going anywhere with me when I wear this.) Ultimately, I like the concept of an understated, androgynous, musky perfume more than this execution, but my opinion is entirely biased by my general dislike/intolerance for musk, so take it with a grain of salt!

A basic white musk. Much in the same family as Jovan White musk. What bothers me about this perfume is it starts off w/ a huge blast of alcohol which is kind of annoying. I wish this was a recreation of my beloved Cody Wild Musk, (which is a barely a shadow of its former glory now) I would buy it in a heartbeat, but this is a very bland basic layering musk at best. I can't give this a dislike or hate vote because it doesn't smell bad, but I don't recommend it either. Very bland and too much alcohol up front. The best postmodern musk (Boy I miss the 80's powerhouse musk's!) that I have sample and bought is Olivine Atelier's More than the Stars, that one is a really beautiful and strong musk. JD Musc is just too flat for me. Another good musk is skin musk oil. Stronger and no blast of rubbing alcohol.

A middling musk, soft with no skank, and on the clean side. Probably best to layer with something more interesting.

On my skin, this starts with a blast of alcohol. Then it becomes a fresh laundry musk, and drydowns into a subtle buttery/milky/powdery/sweet musk that results a bit nauseating to my nose. I have to confirm previous reviews in that the projection is indeed inexistant (I had to spray 10 times on my hand in order to detect enough to write this review). If overapplied, it will give a very subtle impression of 'clean'. That said, it might do a good job as a 'perfume enhancer' if applied first (to create an hermetic oil 'layer' on the skin) and layered with another fragrance (JD Sous Bois for example, a musky floral fragrance). I wanted to love that one, in especially since Jeffrey Dame states to use 4 different types of musks in this one. Not really a blind buy gone wrong, just useless (so yes, gone wrong). Should you look for an original take on musk, I cannot recommend enough Chopard Musk Malaki instead. I love the style of JD, but when it's wrong, it's wrong.

Received a sample with a recent order, and this Neutre Musc reminds me of an another musk I used decades ago when I was a teen. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the name. It was an oil-based musk that came in a round bottle, upright like a clock face, with a white cap. Anyone know what that might have been? (Bonnie Bell, maybe?) Anyway, this smells exactly like that musk, except that was much stronger. Just a few dabs would perfume you for hours. This is nice, but it is so light I can only smell it when sniffing my wrist, and even then, just barely. I asked my sister if she could smell it, and she also said just barely. What I do smell is beautiful. I just wish it were stronger. Since I wear perfumes for my own enjoyment, if I cannot smell it, that sort of defeats the purpose. I ADORE everything else I've purchased from this company so far, and the free samples are a lovely bonus. Some of them are now on my future To Purchase List, so JD is doing better than some other perfume houses as far as this customer is concerned. But even Guerlain, one of my favorite perfume houses, sometimes strikes out with me. I guess you can’t win ‘em all.

A musk cocktail slightly lifted by something (maybe a touch of aldehydes?) to make it sit not so heavily on the skin. Definitely feels both clean and "lived in" and conjures the same feeling Le Labo's Musc LA exclusive gives me for a fraction of the price!

Cannot smell this at all...as a huge musk lover I can say I am disappointed..will use for layering....

unfortunate name though, in the english speaking world. nonetheless, i’ll get myself a sample too.

If you are a white musk fan, dont miss this one. The drydown is very soft feminine and pretty.

I wish I could smell it, I’m anosmic to it. I’m in love with JD’s other fragrances.
