Fleurs d'Ombre/Violette - Menthe

Jean-Charles Brosseau VIOLETTE-MENTHE is a breath of fresh air. The violets are in abundance, but their sweetness is tempered slightly by the mint, which grows stronger as the fragrance develops. The composition is simple yet very pleasing, and I find myself smiling whenever I catch a glimpse of myself wearing this faceted peridots an d amethyst-encrusted golden brooch. Like a small cluster of violets gathered together and bunched up in one's hand with fresh mint sprigs on a bright sunny spring day, VIOLETTE-MENTHE is as disingenuous as can be. There is no artifice or complexity here. The beauty is clean and straightforward, like a single scene captured from nature with nothing added. There is no plastic or dextrose thrown in to mar the natural beauty of the violets in this refreshing eau de toilette with quite good longevity—relative to some of the natural violet perfumes which I've tried—and pretty big sillage. VIOLETTE-MENTHE is a must-have for all lovers of violet perfumes! (If anyone out there actually thinks that this composition smells like glue, I can only surmise that it must have been left in her nose...) 3.08.11

I’ve worn Fleurs d'Ombre Violette Menthe two days in a row, from my least favorite way to wear perfume: a splash vial. I feel I will need to eventually take the plunge and buy a bottle because I don’t think I’m getting the full experience. But here’s my initial impression: a soft, willowy violet is well blended with a crisp mint note. The blend is 50/50 and if you don’t like mint, this should be a pass as it’s present through the life of the scent. Violet is often a demure note, and in Fleurs d'Ombre Violette Menthe its very quiet. This is not a loud perfume in any way, performing well in hot weather because even though it’s light, it’s softly present for several hours. I do pick up a ripe melon in the opening but it’s gone in 15 minutes. As far as some of the others—Ylang, coconut, strawberry— they are not discernible on my skin. For the grey market price, this is a steal. Solid like, maybe a love if/when I can experience Violette Menthe as a spray. EDIT 02.19.23 bought this a month ago for a screaming deal off Amazon, it’s better as a spray and I can’t wait to wear it in the summer.

This is beautiful! No detectable mint on my skin, just all violets, pale roses & peony. I'd describe it as a perfect blend of My Queen and Ellen Tracy's Peony Rose. Soft and sweet (but not overly sweet) and very, very appealing. I'm reminded of violet candies and the smell of my great aunty's ample bosom when she'd give me a hug. Pretty, light pink roses add to it being a bit powdery but green notes cut the sweetness. No oakmoss is listed among the ingredients on the box and I don't get even the slightest impression of oak moss. Not much development but that's OK by me as what I smell first is what I enjoy most. Excellent longevity on skin, hair and clothing and sillage that makes people smile. Violets always seem to evoke pleasant memories. This one is a "must have" & a safe blind buy for all lovers of violets. Mint lovers should buy Mentafolia and layer My Queen over it if that's the combination you're going for (that combination worked quite well when I tried it).

It is a miserable, cold and gloomy day here. Sleet now to change to snow this afternoon. I am SO over winter! Today I decided to defy Mother Nature and wear a glorious spring scent to break my winter doldrums. I chose this lovely scent and I am so happy I did! I have been transported to a magical, warm, wooded place where the violets bloom with abandon! As I walk through this glorious forest, I brush up against a mint plant and the scent mingles with the heady violets perfectly! I don't detect any of the white flowers on my skin. Just the purest scent of soft woods and violets with a whisper of mint that fades as the perfume dries. I loved the initial blast of the violets and enjoy immensely the glorious dry down. It is truly a wonderful spring scent for those who love violets with a bit of a twist. On me the sillage and the longevity are both moderate. Sometimes, you CAN fool Mother Nature..at least in your imagination!

This was a blind buy that turned out extremely well. While I love the scent of the violet flower itself I find many violet perfumes too sweet and powdery to wear. I was intrigued by the pairing of mint with violet in this, and it got a fair number of good reviews - so that and the incredibly low price led to a buy. It starts very green and fresh, minty with a dab of cool melon and violet leaf. The heart is more floral, and turns a little powdery with violet and lily being the most discernible to my nose. The drydown is spicy/woody, I don't get any coconut or strawberry which is fine for me. I find it to be a lovely violet gem of a fragrance, and one I will use often. Longevity is excellent on me, and sillage is on the moderate side. The bottle is lovely too!

If you love violet, and you love mint, then this is absolutely the perfume for you. If you do not care for violet or mint you will want to give this scent wide berth. I adore violet and mint, and I absolutely love this perfume. It makes me very happy to smell it. The notes I can smell specifically are violet and mint. Looking at the more expansive list of notes, I can see how things like honeydew, sandalwood, and coconut would be used to even out the edges of the scent, but really, this is all about violet and mint. They are well-presented, not at all loud and screeching. Rather, they're soft and elegant. This perfume will not be to everyone's taste, but for the violet-mint crowd, it's a must.

This fragrance was a magical experience. If a fairytale had a smell, it would be this one. There's something mysterious, innocent, nostalgic that makes you want to come back for more. I was in a fragrance shop, smelling all of these adult fragrances, and all of a sudden I see this strange bottle which looks like an elixir from a Grandma's cupboard. What a pleasant surprise. Nothing grandmaesque about the violet. Nothing cloying or screaming about the mint. It was like an afternoon from childhood. It was timeless in a kind of edgy and not too serious way.

benchè sia un accordo piuttosto semplice, mi piace molto questo profumo viola, senza la pesantezza che caratterizza altre fragranze centrate sul tema del fiore. qui la violetta è polverosa, ma non dolce, nè caramellata, al massimo si rintraccia una lieve nota fresca di menta che conferisce all'insieme una bellezza classica ed elegante. non è un profumo invasivo, tantomeno esageratamente freddo: un bel bilanciamento tra violetta e sentori aromatici mentolati. molto buono.

I just got a coffret of this with the body lotion today...I'm so excited! Two of some of my favorite things are in this...violets and mint. I must say I am in love...when I wear this I am transported to the 1920's, a vanity with powders in gorgeous art deco powder jars and perfumes, and clara bow sitting there with her flapper hair. It's dusty violets...and touch of mint in the beginning. Reminds me of the old face powder my Grandmother used to wear.

I am so happy that I purchased this wonderful perfume based on the notes and comments here. It is beautiful, light and sweet composition with a lot of violets. It smells just the same like the violet candy drops that I have had when I was a child. It is classy, inosent and playful. So far it is becoming a favorite for me! And the lasting power is very good, I sprayed it in the night and I can still smell it on the next day

Another blind purchase, and I couldn't be more pleased. I've been looking for something to wear in this sweltering heat that has been our summer so far. This is violet in it's purest state, made even fresher with cooling mint. Don't detect any coconut, whatsoever. This is very well done and effortless to wear. For an EDT, it has great longevity on me, about 6 hrs.

Got this today on recommendation of some people here--and it is lovely!! Soft, not too strong or sweet on me. I wasn't sure about the mint part, but it is so gentle, blending beautifully with the violet, almost like a woodland garden. The only downside is it doesn't last, but for summer it is perfect--if I put it on every two hours.

This perfume is quite woody and the violet not too sweet. Perfect summer refreshment. I love this alot. Takes a while for the alcohol to evaporate but when it does it becomes a very cooling, soothing and nostalgic scent.

First of all I'd like to thank Michali for giving me the opportunity to try and own this beautiful fragrance. To be honest, when I first tested Fleurs d'Ombre Violette - Menthe on my skin, I wasn't overly impressed. The mint was very strong, but not in a pleasant sense. I thought of toothpaste and gallons of talcum powder creating havoc on my delicate skin. I didn't give up, so after a few days I tried again. Oh my god, what a difference the second wearing made in forming a completely different opinion concerning Fleurs d'Ombre Violette - Menthe. This fragrance was a beautiful, unique and feminine blend of powdery violets, refreshing mint, sweet melon and soft musk. I thought that nothing could surpass my adoration for Thierry Mugler's Violette Angel, however it may have just met its match. They are both powdery violet scents, however the mint adds something quite beautiful to an already pretty blend. I have worn this fragrance during both Summer and Autumn, and have been surprised by the amount of compliments I've received, especially from men. I found it quite innocent, yet men seem to find it rather seductive and captivating. Who would have thought that violet and mint could go so well together? Whoever constructed this fragrance is a genius. The lasting power is fantastic, really surprising for an EDT. I recommend this fragrance to anyone that loves violets, or for that matter, any floral lovers in general that enjoy fragrances with a bit of a twist.

MARIE ANTOINETTE by Kirsten Dunst captured in a bottle! This is such a stunning violet perfume! I blind-bought it after reading a lovely review on this @ the blogg 'scentedsalamander'. If you are interested in this one, check that review, it describes it very well. As a lover of violet-perfumes I so much love this addition to my collection. It's PERFECT! It's composed so very well, balanced and beautiful. This is smells like a expencive powdery Parma violet. As it starts of with greens, then the scent turns to violet pastilles covered in sugar-dust. A trip to early 1920's pastry Boutique in spring Paris. Romantic French seduction. The oak basenotes completes this in a classy, refined, beautiful way. It makes the violet not too candy-sweet, but real and classy and just that perfect amount of powdery sweetness. This perfumes is a modern classic. A violet version of the famous Ombre rose perfume. I highly recommend this to everyone. It's perfection, in both juice and the LOVELY ombre-bottle. I just can't describe it as lovely as the scent really is. Try it!

Violette-Menthe is a precious, refined, realistic violet with a translucent chorus of dewy flowers and sunny fruit. The ingenious touch of mint and melon, rather than stand out, adds a fresh, fruity background glow to the whole composition, rendering it perfect for warmer weather. Its beauty and brilliance can be both marvelous and somehow easy to miss, as this perfume is a soft, casual, rather understated composition. But the way it features the violet is quite masterful and unique when observed carefully. It took me two samples to fall in love with it, but I'm finally hooked. Lasting power and projection are both very good.

I'm really enjoying this fragrance the more I spray it! On my skin it starts off smelling more balsamic than minty. It fades quickly, turning into buttery Iris with Violet throughout the life of it. I don't smell any strawberry. It smells wonderful on its own, like a field of violets! But it complements a powdery perfume like Junoon or Teint de Neige quite well if you want to sweeten it up without changing the profile. This fragrance also smells nice when layered with Anna Sui Fantasia Mermaid or Bvlgari Rose Essentielle.

goes on bitter with the oakmoss rearing up and curled my nose then the violet shone through, a dirty, herbal violet; it's not "minty" per se but a bit aromatic and like a garden with violets, herbs, roots torn up, a violet with some depth and bite. The mint gives a little minty quality to the skin. That tingle. There's some oakmoss in the base. But, really oakmoss, violet, mint and sandalwood are the notes. Don't expect a sweet, powdery fresh violet.

Primary boss-Violets, then mint and some spice. Mint adds to the crispness and freshness and allows violets to shine 100%. It is semi bitter-sweet, dry violet type a scent. Black currant has to do with bitter zesty-ness here. Leafy green touch with white flowers in the background. Floral, powdery with hints of musk. Likable, wearable, behaves well anywhere...to sum it up: violets and spring in a bottle:) Up to 4 hours.

In the top I smell the melon and minth very good. It gives the scent its freshness. Then the violet is there I cant detect any white flowers. On my skin it dry's down to a powdey minty violet. I cant help it to smell a bit similarity with Galliano. Maybe coz of that woody violet. I will try it again in warmer weather. Coz im not sure right now if this is a scent for me
