40 Love pour Homme

Great fougere with some florals and animalic notes mixed in. However, it is almost impossible to get your hands on now unless you are willing to pay a small fortune. It has been discontinued a long time. I highly suggest checking out '40 Rogue' by Rogue Perfumery. The perfumer there actually had an analytical chemistry lab test a sample of '40 Love' and he made his own 'resurrection' of this long-discontinued fragrance. He also uses very high quality ingredients and it shows in the smell. I highly recommend checking his stuff out.

It is an honor and a privilege to be the first Italian to review this fragrance. A time machine that takes us back to pre-war times where life was harder but perhaps much simpler and more direct. The image that comes to my mind is a black and white photo of my grandfather in his early twenties, perfectly clean-shaven and dressed in his pinstripe suit that strolls along the street of the city center. Perfume with strong contrasts, it reaches you full and fast like a punch, animalic and alcoholic smells, then it lingers for a second just to give you the second punch of leather and oak moss. After the first round, during the break we stop to smell a fantastic rose in the background and a clean and powdery soapy smell, but there is no time to recover because the second half begins with intense and persistent notes of flowers, indolic notes and stale water. The drydown is long, very long, with a final note of sweetness that leaves us with a feeling of exhaustion and contentment. This perfume cannot be described, it must be tried and I was lucky enough to do it and own an entire bottle. It's the 2nd version, I think dating back to the 60s, the 1st one had to be even stronger and more intense, especially fresh just bought. A colony that is stronger, more persistent and more intense than many modern EdPs, makes us understand how market laws and IFRA regulations have ruined this art. A perfume from other times and certain things rightly mustn't change, it's only up to us to try to preserve their memories. Rating: 10.... Regardless P.s. I've tried the Rogue version of this, good attempt, but it's not even close to its power, chemical cannot substitute the real animalic and oakmoss (for example).

Just received decant of 40 Love from someone who has a vintage bottle. The soapy aldehydes & amber/moss/animalic base are still there, but floral & fruity are highly attenuated. Within abt a half hour, all you can smell is faint soapy amber. Fascinating to compare the front end of this to 40 Rogue, tho!
