Collection Heritage Adieu Sagesse

This is so, so pretty. Creamy white florals on a soft powdery cloud of musk and orris. So simple, yet so lovely. My fear of my least favorite fruit notes of rhubarb and grapefruit overrunning the scent were unfounded. Just a quick opening salvo that soon departs giving way to creamy white florals and powdery notes. It is the coconut that gives this scent the creaminess, but this is so well blended that I never smell that note outright, as is true of the clove. I also pick up what smells like violet, but I think that is the residue of the fruit notes playing that way. Whatever it is, it is lovely. Silage is soft and gentle, but very present. I'm in a dreamy little cloud of heaven right now. While I've never smelled the original version, Thomas Fontaine has managed to create an enchanting fragrance that brings to mind the great vintage fragrances of the past while modernizing it for today's sensibilities. It is both very wearable and appropriate for all occasions, whether at the office or as a scent for a bride. I'm also very surprised to see that despite Patou no longer being in business the fragrances from the Collection Heritage Line are still very reasonably priced if you shop around. I actually found this much cheaper than what it originally sold for when first introduced. I don't understand that considering that Patou is no more, and aside from the fact that perfumes in this line are beautiful, you would think that people would want to snatch these up if for no other reason than that they will be collector's items one day. I'm sure some have bought them for that reason, but why not for the beautiful scents themselves I cannot understand. I can only assume that poor marketing and maybe some people's disappointment that they weren't exact replicas of their predecessors might account for that. Whatever the reason, it worked to my benefit as I was not only able to purchase a perfume that I love at a great price, but also obtain a little piece of history too.

I have been collecting from Jean Patou since the announcement of their stopping production of Patou perfumes. This is the last one to complete my collection of this brand, a brand that I have fallen in love with. It is quite ironic that I end my collection of this house w/ this one because the name means Farewell Wisdom and w/ all of the money I have spend collecting perfumes since COVID I have been very different from my former frugal self. I have had a blast doing this and I have 1 more perfume to purchase and review (from another house) and my collection will be complete. Anyway on to reviewing this perfume....... This fragrance is ethereal. It is what I imagine heaven must smell like.. It is a light, airy, sweet floral bouquet that never dies but renews itself over and over again. I think the top notes (which I did worry about) keep this bouquet of beautiful white florals from becoming to heady. I own Hiram Green's Moon Bloom and it is a beautiful perfume but my husband does not like it because it is so heady and narcotic in it composition. This is airy, and celestial. It is like like being in a cloud of white flowers while Moon Bloom is like being in a garden of tuberose/gardenia on a sultry summer night. Moon Bloom is of the earth while Adieu Sagesse is of the sky. At least now I own a gardenia my husband actually likes! This was a great blind buy and I encourage people to give this line a try. I'm sure they are not like the original fragrances, IFRA has really thrown a monkey wrench into perfume making but these perfumes are beautiful and can be had now for a fraction of their original price.

Looking at that notes list I am wondering whether my sample is labelled incorrectly. Because I know it is from the Heritage Collection and not earlier, but what I am smelling is a strong, very feminine in an old school 80's kinda way, spiced carnation and (fake) civet musks, some heady white flowers, all shot through with something with a sharp-sour profile and a hint of bite. There is also a slight fruity note to it that reminds me of peach or apricot, it isn't the dominating accord but it is ever present to some degree. I find the opening discordant, sharp, a little sour and astringent and I am not fond of this stage. But give it a few minutes to bed down and suddenly my nose is greeted with tendrils of beautiful spiced feminine florals augmented by a hint of fruity compote, and these are what stick around and evolve and by the drydown this is something really beautiful. This perfume smells of sunset colours, fire reds and scarlet, orange of every hue, hints of coral and peach, splashes of yellow, and a thin thread of rich deep blue running under. It reads nothing like the notes list here would imply. I can see that maybe rhubarb could be responsible for the sharp sour and fruiy accord, but otherwise the 2 don't add up in my mind/nose. Definitely need to further investigate this.

I think the toughest job a perfumer has is keeping iconic formulations in great shape at the hands of IFRA restrictions. Fontaine, like Wasser at Guerlain is in the unenviable task to restore and to resurrect an iconic house. Adieu Sagasse will be reviewed on its own merits, not compared to past formulations. Its brilliant. Rhubarb, citrus and a creamy coconut open the fragrance. Its a soft creamy experience much like the accord of rhubarb/gardenia in Amouage Honor. Honor turns aquatic, Adieu blooms into the most enthralling gardenia I have experienced in modern perfumery. It resembles a light coconut gardenia creme. Neroli and lily of the valley gives this a light green soapy tinge under the heart. Tuberose holds the gardenia together while maybe a narcissus lends a whisper. Cloves are giving this a cool astringant tension (maybe styrax?) and musk to keep it all together. A unique beauty. I love it.

This is really lovely. It has an 80s / 90s vibe to me and that's a good thing. No horribe modern musks or ambroxan here. The rhubarb is almost blackcurranty, more fruity than sharp though it just adds brightness. I find this a little like what you would get if you crossed krizia fiori with ck eternity and then added some bright stewed rhubarb and grapefruit.... it's really a lot nicer than I'm making it sound. In fact I'm so impressed that I've ordered a backup whilst I still can. A shame Lvmh cancelled these, but given the modern offerings being churned out that all smell the same, ,i cannot say I'm surprised. If you liked clarins Elysium you will probably like this too. Like the previous commenter said it's almost violetty and I too do not notice the clove or coconut.

I just managed to buy Joy plus 4 from the Heritage Collection for £130, so I'm working through them to learn what they're about. This surprised me. I sprayed then looked at the notes, and the truly delicious prominent note is the rhubarb, which I've never enjoyed in other fragrances. It's creamy and uplifting. The grapefruit takes over a little, and I would have expected those 2 to be a little astringent, but no, it's all so smooth. My love of old fashioned glamour is more than satisfied by Patou. The blending is masterful so there's nothing that jars or gets close to disturbing the glide through to base notes. I want to bury my nose in La Sagesse, she's exquisite.

I have never smelled the original but, even so, I can feel that this reformulation retains it's spirit. It opens with a slightly bitter citrus, rhubarb is also there, quite distinctively. As the first notes start to fade, a beautifully orchestrated white flower bouquet emerges, never cloying but delicate, sweet and airy. Although this version is masterfully done, this is not what you would call a "modern" perfume. It is and feels vintage through and through, there's an air of nostalgia that surrounds it, like memories of ellegant parties long ago. This being said, I think it is made with a lot of heart, respect and sagesse 😉

Creamy, lovely, rhubard (who knew rhubarb would be in a perfume?!). I agree with another reviewer that this has a 80s/90s smell, but not at all in any negative way. It's a softly surrounding. I got it from an Ebay seller and may need to get more!

I don't like the tart opening and I'm a bit anosmic to something so I tend to over apply this fragrance, pas très sage, en fin. 15 minutes in, the opening is gone as it blooms into an indolic, and nectary white flower perfume that evokes a late spring or early summer evening in a garden with bushes and vines of white, night-scented flowers, which are fresh and sensuous but not rotting. It's a sophisticated evocation of corsage gardenias and vine flowers in a garden between these two seasons. It could be a gorgeous scent for a June wedding. I don't find it casual, it calls for elegant clothes or nude skin. On me, Adieu Sagesse wears close for the most part, but occasionally it becomes 3D providing notes that I seem to encounter in the air at some distance from my body, rather than from my skin. Not worth a full bottle IMO, however I have one anyway. I will enjoy this perfume for a few decades, a few times each season, until I die or it goes off. Maybe someone will fall in love with this gardenia and take it away.

This is a lovely perfume that is more than the sum of its notes. I own several bottles from the Heritage Collection, and love, or at least like, all of them. My only complaint is the longevity, and Adiey Sagesse is the worst offender in that department. It vanishes after an hour, tops, on my skin and isn't much better on my clothes. I'm glad that I own it, because it's a beautiful blend while it lasts, but I have to say that I wouldn't purchase it again due to the poor longevity, especially since the price has grown considerably now that LVMH killed the legendary House of Patou.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this scent ,because it turned out quite a bit different than my expectations. Instead of a playful,young, zingy experience akin to Infusion de Rhubarbe, this instead more of a powdery and creamy Iris with a little tang from the rhubarb for a more composed , mature individual; it's also faintly smokey for some reason. I still enjoy it though, it does smell a bit like a lozenge though. This is less of a summer heat ,and more of a summer into autumn transitory scent. Glad as I am confused by it.

The first thing I get with this fragrance is rhubarb - and specifically some dessert like rhubarb cake. The gourmand notes hang on for a good hour or so. The florals start taking over after that and the later dry down is a very nice, clean, white floral with gardenia especially. This scent is very happy and I feel it would be perfect for daytime parties. It is similar in feeling to Dior Pure Poison and Rosine Vive la Mariée. Lasting power is not bad at all, at least 7h+.

Wow. Just WOW. One of the few perfumes which immediately struck me as PRETTY beyond description! Due to the beneficence of a fellow fragrantican, I have been on a Patou sampling voyage this winter, enjoying gorgeous olfactory travel, despite the same scenery. This is like a journey into the past of French perfumery, despite the nod to modernity. However! These given notes aren't what I smell - especially in the opening. Tart rhubarb may indeed be here, but all I smelled was a whiff of appropriate citrus, which quickly left. What remained? VIOLET and Carnation POWDER and ORRIS and Clove!!! This is quite the most beautiful, orris/iris and violet combination I have ever smelled. Something about the combination of notes simply says violets and iris and powder to me. The sweetness of violets is not as candied as some, but it IS naturally sweet. The powder is rich and enveloping, but never too dry. In short, this is the sort of violet that I prefer over YSL Paris, which was entirely too high pitched and sharp on me. Powder lovers will agree and prefer to throw caution and wisdom to the wind and obtain 'Farewell Wisdom' over the more common Paris. But I digress.... Overall, this is truly the most cheerful vintage styled scent of all the classic Patou I've tested. Each one has been utterly lovely, competing well with Guerlain's quality. From me, that's high praise indeed. I will try not to cry, knowing Patou is no more. But what a beautiful farewell!!!!

I agree that this does not smell like Amouage Honkr other than they both have gardenia. I have both and prefer this over the Amouage. On the opening I catch the gardenia first partnered with what smells like a light tobacco/leathery scent. It seems to soften the gardenia and keep it from being overpowering. Perhaps that is what they are calling clove and coconut? I can sort of see how they might balance each other out. What I enjoy most is that it has that hint of the old classics without getting stuck in my throat. There is a creaminess to it that is like a warm hug. My first Patou was the original Joy, not as the pure parfum but EDP. Although I likes the fragrance, I did not like wearing it as even on spray was too much for me. I finally resorted to just spraying the air once and stepping through it. I recently got a vintage pure perfume Joy and like it much better as it releases the notes without chocking me. Adieu Sagesse is similar that way. I think I primarily enjoy perfume or extracts because of that and I can typically smell them for hours.

Adieu Sagesse translates as farewell wisdom and Patou envisioned this as a fragrance that embodies moments when your head and heart are in opposition. This is all about putting contrasting notes together in a way that lets them shine. This opens with a creamy gardenia balanced against a tart rhubarb and bright grapefruit (maybe bergamot). There's nothing bitter, it's all creamy versus tart. Then it morphs into lotiony lily-of-the-valley and narcissus is paired with spicy clove and carnation. Finally, it's a balance between an earthy, powdery orris and light musk. What a beauty this is. It's not modern or old fashioned; it's not evocotive of any time. It's its own unique thing. I'm sad that I never smelled the original.

This does not smell like Honour by Amouage. I bought a bottle because Jean Patou fragrances have been discontinued and I was impressed by Vacances from the Heritage Collection. However, Adieu Sagasse was not my cup of tea- not floral or sweet enough, it was harshly mossy and missing that “perfume-y” feminine touch. I’m not sure where the Amouage comparisons are coming from.

Hi anybody has 3 ml to swap for something else? I really want to try this before I blind buy.
