Sublime Eau de Parfum

My EDP dates to 2015. It goes on well mixed to the center notes - instant powder. Sublime has that Patou bouquet impact - buzzing vibrations that orbit around you. One of the coziest yet most beautiful EDPs I know. My interest in fragrance multiplied exponentially during the first wave of COVID in 2020. I was often feeling lonely and recognized that fragrances are something dynamic that can accompany me. I don't and can't have a pet. Fragrance is, after all touching me, and its enveloping me. Skin to air to nose and back out.You see we help and support fragrance quite physically. It's not the same at all as room scent. It would be difficult to feel lonely wearing something so gorgeous yet homey and unpretentious as Sublime, because I feel my body and mind help create how gorgeous it is and it returns energy to me as well. Sublime has a very slap-dash effortless "perfumed skin" effect. Can you remember the odor of a young person you loved? (Or maybe you're lucky enough to have a young lover now!). It's that luscious healthy but seductive human scent multiplied, and blended with flowers and musks and slightly sweet ambers. Be kind and generous to yourself and have a sniff of Sublime if you can find a tester somewhere. Some traditional fragrance shops are marking it UP considering it rare. Yet some online stores are marking it down, considering it a remainder. My Sublime EDP 75ml cost me under 40 bucks. Prices seem to vary widely by seller, and they also fluctuate wildly month to month. It's a bargain and a great buy for 50 bucks or under. I don't know how much stock is still available. It seems, actually, quite a bit, as this fire sale has been going on a year now and it's still easy to find.

This is a beautiful perfume. I am wearing my sample today. I felt bad that this house is no more and their fragrances have been discontinued. This is by today's standards a very old fashioned fragrance. This is they type of fragrance that could be a signature for a very classy, upscale woman. It is woody and citrus in the opening but then melts down to a beautiful wearable powdery scent that is a mix of florals and musks. It is slightly soapy but warmer than most soapy scents. The tonka bean give this a slight vanilla smell in the drydown. I would say it is woody, creamy, soapy, warm, floral, and powdery. What a shame this will not be made anymore. I have ordered many, many bottles of Sublime, enough to last me the rest of my life. I have looked high and low for a perfume that could be my signature scent. I've been on and off w/ perfume for many, many years. I started collecting during the Covid lockdowns and got heavily into naturals which I love, I love all the perfumes I have purchased. But when I read the article that Jean Patou was folding I thought I should sample a few before they are gone. I fell hard for Sublime and when I smelled it I thought this is the fragrance I have been searching for my whole life. If I had to pick 1 fragrance and only 1 for the rest of my life it would be Jean Patou's Sublime.

Other reviewers have done justice in describing this perfume, so I won't make any efforts to iterate what has already been written. I will add that sublime is to me a woody, slightly powdery (orris) with a spicy carnation, ylang-ylang heavy, amber warm, full bodied floral. The most interesting note to me is the clove-like, slightly peppery carnation. This is an old school woody floral that is not at all dated and irrelevant. Opulent is the word that comes to mind whenever I apply this fragrance. There is nothing nouveau riche about it. Wearing it, I feel as though I have walked through a painting and have been transported back into a time where women were ladies and men, gentlemen- the old glory days all bottled up in one 5ml dab bottle. I purchased the 75ml EDP soon after as I reasoned that if Patou fragrances are to be no more, then I must have the biggest bottle within my reach. At first, I found it hard to wear Sublime to anything other than special occasions and to bed in silk. But in combining Sublime with Oscar de la Renta's Oscar EDT, the sophisticated floral becomes more accessible. Of the house's chypre florals, Sublime is my favourite. It is oh so sublime!

As my fragragrance journey has progressed, it's detoured into a side obsession with collecting chypres of the 70's, 80's and early/mid-late 90's (pre IFRA.) I've just sampled the current iteration of the pure olfactive artistry that is, Jean Patou Paris', Sublime EDP. I approached this one cautiously, as I wasn't thrilled with the floral overload that is 1000, and found Joy Forever, to be reserved, unassuming and rather boring. Sublime, however, with its bitter green and big orange opening is another animal altogether! The depth and density of this creation must be experienced by the fragrance enthusiast her or himself as the fragrance blooms on the skin. A green, citrus, floral, spicy, musky, ambery, and powdery rainbow languishly reveals itself. But, the dry down is my favorite! A deep, rich, slightly powdery and very classy long lingering scent is the pot of gold at the end of this rainbow! THIS is classic! If you haven't sampled Sublime yet, do so before this treasure is gone forever! I'll be stocking up! 😉

Review for EDT Truly exceptional. I find there is a difference between EDT and EDP, namely I would describe EDT as more of a Musk perfume rather than Chypre. Yes, there is oakmoss at drydown, but the musk note is dominant throughout. It must be one of the nicest musk notes ever. Seductive would be an appropriate way to describe it. Nothing bitter, sour etc... It reminds me of the type of musk in a Serge Lutens (I am thinking of Clair de musc and Nuit de cellophane.) When it finally reaches drydown and blends with the oakmoss, the result is out of this world. I can't think of many compositions that impress me so much. There is plenty of ylang throughout, which somehow miraculously avoids being shower-gel like. Outstanding. Don't mean to repeat what others have mentioned; why would something like this be discontinued.
