Un Amour de Patou

I am wearing this right now after just opening the box. I purchased the cream version of this perfume since the perfume spray is hard to find brand new in box. I have to say this this is the most unique rose perfume I have ever smelled and I really love it. The mahogany is very dominate in the opening giving an almost leather and smoke like quality. Aldehydes tingle the nose and combine w/ the mahogany too create a feminine smoky aroma. Green notes come in and combine w/ the beautiful bouquet of roses and lily of the valley creating a slight sharpness, while sandalwood and musk add powder and soften the overall composition. This smells of yesteryear but in a modern way. Classy, and refined. Yet a bit young and girly as well. This smells like a perfume I have created in my head that I wanted to call Ashes of Roses, after the color of the dress Meggie Cleary wore in the book/mini series the Thorn Birds. I have been searching for a perfume that smelled what I had in mind and I have now found it. Why did it take me so long to find Jean Patou?! I will have to hunt harder for a bottle of this wonderful perfume. Almost every perfume I have purchased from this house has been a solid gold winner and a safe bet for blind buys. I just assumed their creations would smell like the random crap Dior, and other design houses sell today. I have more coming from the Heritage collection and I hope they are as wonderful as this one and others I have tried from this Great house have been. Farewell, Jean Patou, we were late to meet but your great house will not be forgotten.

Judging by the bottle and what's inside the bottle, I must have been fortunate to get an old formula. Bacause this is some ubelieveably powerful stuff! To judge this perfume by sniffing the cap or right after you sprayed it on is the biggest mistake ever. After I opened the bottle all I got wasd a whiff of something heavy and musky. After 2 sprays on my wrist i was getting the same scent but tripple power. Not unpleasant but nothing like the description. I was like, what in the world are these people talking about in their reviews....delicate, floral, green???? Then I added 3 more sprays on the neck and decided to wait. After 5 minutes i started thinking about getting into a verbal fight with the Ebay person for selling me something that turned. 10 minutes after application.....and what a transformation.It changed into the most gorgeous floral scent, very sophisicated and romantic. And of course with the same unforgettable "Patou" base. I think the concentration is so great that it takes some time for this beauty to develop. To be honest, it's hard to believe that it is EDT, because the sillage is outstanding, not to mention the staying power. It's been 7 hours and it is still very noticeable. Un Amour is just another precious Patou creation! I think it will be one of thouse fragrances in my collection that i use sparingly, because I doubt I will be able to get the same quality again...if get it at all.

Un Amour de Patou is paradoxical. First spray = disaster!! Smells like weird experiment done by amateurs, where chemicals are unbalanced and the mixture of flowers turned horrible!! I have no idea what was Jean-Michel Duriez thinking when he worked on this fragrance, until....... the next 30 minutes! After those chaos, I was surprised when this formula changed 180°. Suddenly, the most delightful smell emerges from my skin. Patou’s floral signature; jasmine, lily of the valley and rose blend beautifully. It’s the scent I’ve never smelled before, finally a genuine scent! It’s spring in the bottle! Fresh, light, feminine and romantic in just the right amount of pleasing! I suddenly fall in love with this thing ;) I should've known earlier, the bottle might be a reminder! The pinkish cute flacon is not always lovable. It could turned you inside out! Hurt you first and love you next! It sure is “A Love of Patou” but you'll find it after all journey of despair. So now I know, should I own a bottle or should I have not?

I used to have this one when I was a little girl, but in a solid form. Oh, how I loved it...A perfect romantic everyday scent.After 10 years It would still make me happy and I would wear it without thinking that it's too girly for my taste. The mix of the woods (sandalwood and something else, maybe moss?) and the flowers (I could smell rose and lilly of the valley for sure) in the solid perfume was kind of "one-dimensional". I couldn't detect any changes as the time passed. The scent remained flowery with woody undertones. This was not a bad thing for me, as long as I adored the smell, which lasted and lasted. I wish I could have this again.... Such a shame we can't find it easily....

Un amour de Patou is one of my all-time favorite fragrances. Definitely for day time, mostly for summer/spring. It is one of those that you hope to catch wiffs of in the air all day long - sometimes I would just spray the air. It is such a shame they stopped making it. Another disappointing change from when Proctor & Gamble took over. There are quite a few Jean Patou scents that I would have loved to try if only they hadn't discontinued them. I hope they wise up over there and bring back their famous classics....the ones that built their reputation.

it used to be one of my favourite perfume back then in the year 2000. It smells feminine but not too soft. It just smells unique. The pink bottle is pretty without being girlie. I miss this perfume. I still keep 1/3 of the bottle left since 2000. Hardly find it anywhere now. That's why I want to keep the smell of it. It captures lots of memories I had before back in Sydney in the year 2000 as a college student that loves wearing this perfume in spring...walking along the Rocks and Darling Harbour...I will always remember it.

I just picked up a full bottle of Un Amour, the review below is on the cream perfume. They are the same to my nose. I'm thrilled I was able to find a new bottle unused of this for a good price. The cream perfumes will be great to carry in a my purse for touch ups. This is a beautiful woody/rose fragrance, very unique. My husband likes to wear the cream perfume on his beard. We often wear it together. Let's just say it's one of our romantic perfumes .....

i was in a commited relashionship with this one. like a true love, it felt unique and unforgetable. i never found anything that smells similar. although the apperiance screams 'girly', it's perfectly balanced which in the end gives a 'creamy' result.

I got this in mini for about USD 4,and gosshh the smell is beauuutiful. It's a woody rose, with a hint of sweetness and I've never smelt any perfume like this before. Very Retro & sophisticated. Perfect for a garden wedding party.

I was wearing it today for lunch....just wanted to match it with my pink top. And all I was thinking was....this perfume is too sophisticated and I am too underdressed! LOL

I bough this for just 15 euros back at 2001. How great to see that it now costs almost 60 since it has been discontinued. It is a nice floral indeed, but I could smell this mahogamy that almost destroy the whole experience. But, despite this, my then boyfriend loved it, so I was wearing it, until it reached the 1/3 and then I stopped. Since I have this obsesiveness of not wanting to end a perfume (if I am not planning to buy it again) I still keep it. It is not a generic floral fragrance I can say. it is kind of unique. Comparing to the perfumes that they exist today in the market, its sillage was big and its longevity as well.

This is a lovely, fresh and feminine fragrance. Lots of lily of the valley and rose, but not overpowering. Summery and elegant. I haven't seen it anywhere for a while - does anyone know if it's been discontinued? I do hope not.

A wonderful, fresh rose-scent with some spicy green notes and wood. Great every-day-scent. Lovely and timeless. En underbar, fräsch rosdoft, men lite kryddiga gröna noter och trä. Suverän varje-dag-doft. Ljuvlig och tidlös.

Celery. That's my very first, and so far, lasting impression of Un Amour de Patou. I waited, and waited for something, anything, to make it's presence known, and I think I detected some rose peeking through, which is why I am not giving up on this one quite yet. I am hoping that's due to my nose being exhausted from testing other, stronger perfumes today. Or it's the aldehydes coming across stronger than usual, again due to sampling. I'm not ready to face the other possibility yet, which is that the partially used bottle I scored on Ebay has gone bad, because I am not getting anything remotely close to the lovely, romantic floral others have described. Fingers crossed... 4/11/22 - I tossed this long ago. I had no doubt that the bottle I was sold went bad. Now that Patou is no more, I'm on the lookout for a relatively affordable bottle, or maybe I'll just go the decant route. One way or another, I need to know what this smells like, and I'm looking for back ups to some of my Patous before they explode in price. I already picked up a back up for Sira des Indes at a good price.

Among the variants of Patou’s old collection I've ever sniffed, I think you could call this one the safest scent. It is cute, cheery and light. Who would've guessed Patou could do a fruity floral, eh :)? I had always been thinking they are about the serious scent with spices, woods, and sweets, until I sniffed this. Drawing conclusion from the top notes filled with bergamot, light amount of white flowers, and alcohol as dissolving agent, undeniably this is the scent of a teenage girl (What could you expect from a fragrance contained in a pastel pink-colored flacon, anyway?). If you cannot bear to be on the stage, acting as an innocent & chirpy girl for like the first 10 minutes, go train your lung so that you could hold your breath; until the sandalwood & musk comes out to rescue. It softens and add a tiny-weeny depth to the aroma. I guess I also have to admit that it is not as THAT good. But come on, it’s Patou. Let the house have all it sins forgiven, due to the grand contribution they’ve given to human-being.

Surprising fresh and sophisticated. A lovely delicate floral with moderate aldehydes. A mature and very green drydown...marvelous for spring, and everything a "Floral Fruity" should be- balanced. Longevity excellent, as with all Patou.

I had this a while back, it had to go. I like roses but I just got ganged up on by the mahogany and a celery smell, it smelt terrible on me! Flowers hid in terror and the aldehydes refused to see me. Shame, as I do enjoy other Patous.

I loved this fragrance for years. It's a shame that it is almost impossible to find now. It is such a soft rose scent and it wears beautifully.
