Le Male Essence de Parfum

I'm going straight to the point; this is so beautiful and balanced it boggles my mind. I give it the highest remark. Bottle, sillage, longevity, smell, masculinity, balance, character/uniqueness, versatility. This one is a solid release that doesn't lack anything. It may be too thick for extremely hot humid weather like we have now in Sweden at the time of writing. Geared towards the non-teenager. This is going towards the direction of mature and formal. But it works just as well as a bad boy leather jacket frag for younger people in my opinion. I remember smelling this upon release curiously. It wasnt for me I thought, but it smelled delicious and new. Sometimes it's hard to recognize greatness upon initial smell. I immediately knew it was quality, but my persona needed time to adjust to the tought of me wearing this kind of fragrance. I'm a freshie. Tend to like lighter frags. This smells spicy and creamy. A bit dry. The note fo leather/suede is dominating the entire experience. It smells very natural. Some flowers going on just beneath the spicy suede, you just sense them. I tend not to like cardamom in excess. Here the cardamom is a key player but it blends in so well that it never gets too sweet. The sweetness is tickeling the nose, enticingly. Never satisfying your sweet tooth. The sweet/spicy combo is actuallt JUST right. For example, I find the legendary Spicebomb to be good but for my taste it's a little too sweet. This fragrance is NOT Le Male despite the name. It's another beast. But it's hiding, deep in the bakground. And when you let it dry down to itS final stages you kind of smell the classic Le Male again. Very subdued and very intrically infused in the new experience of how a modern man smells like. JPG is very ahead in the innovation game for designers, on par with Dior. It took some time but I bought a bottle recently for fall. The question is if it performs in the compliment section. I have no idea.

So I picked up a bottle of Le Male Essence at the duty free and have worn it for a few days. I'm still testing this fragrance, but can give some initial thoughts for those interested in buying this: 1. If you bought this thinking you would be getting yet another variation of 'Le Male' guess again. This is not the same thing. Sure, like 'Le Male' there is: cardamon, vanilla and lavender, but it is blended quite differently and has no orange blossom or mint. For those saying this fragrance isn't good because it doesn't smell like 'Le Male'.....I get it because this has the name 'Le Male' in it and has a similar bottle, but I won't rate this poorly because it is quite different. Also - how many more variations of the original can you do? 2. It is a warmer, more sensual fragrance. The cardamon is fairly prominent and gives it a 'La Nuit de L'homme' vibe to some extent. 3. It is surprisingly decent in the longevity department. I sprayed it on me 6 hours ago and can easily detect it still. It is not a 'screamer' though - projection is decent, but I don't think it is designed to project heavily or leave a big scent trail. Do I like it? Yes, but I like it for reasons others don't like it. 1. It doesn't smell like the original, and I'm OK with that. 2. It has notes in it that I like - Cardamon, lavender, leather. It also has cinnamon like the original. It is slightly sweet, but not overly sweet. Still testing, but these are my initial impressions. Edit #1 - So another full wearing today. I really do think this is a sensual fragrance. Longevity is not bad on this, but if you like your fragrances a bit 'louder' this is not for you. I like it. It's my kind of fragrance. I like fragrances like this, Armani Code Special Blend, Nuit D'Issey Parfum. All of those fragrances are nice, have a sensual, slightly darker edge to them...but not overly loud. One other comment: beautiful bottle!

This fragrance changed my thoughts on J.P. Gaultier fragrances. This is actually the first one which I don't only like, I LOVE it! I hate the original, I hate Le Beau even more because of the coconut note. But this one is hella different story! Can't help myself with this. It opens with fresh citruses, bergamont mainly but at the same time insanely sweet Not bubblegum sweet though, kinda attractively and alluringly sweet. Then it turned to like a sweet vanilla leather with seductive cinnamond and floral notes like lavender. As it dries down, it becomes more serious, masculine and musky; hints of absin even. This actually reminds me of Armani Code Profumo, they are not the same though but very similar. I also get some a hint of CH Men Privé but in sweeter way, maybe because of a leather note. On my skin, it projects like a crazyyyy beast after two first hours. Then it comes much closer to the skin but still people around me can smell me. Longevity is also great, 7 hours easily because of its heavy base notes. I sprayed it five sprays like usual and it almost killed me haha. This is not cloying as original one but it is still strong fragrance. Go easy with this one ;P Even if you can't smell it on yourself, people around you still can for example when you walk pass someone or when you give a left kiss, right kiss, they can smell you.. This is definitely for an outgoing with a huge personality and a bit childish and playful characters. It is still for a grown up and matured guy, 24yrs+.

(I have the bottle with the burgundy-colored juice.) This is a fragrance that had been on my radar for a while after I tried it in an airport. I remember liking it but couldn't recall why. Lots of users here regard it as a modernized, "mature" take on the original Le Male, so I figured I would give it a shot as a blind buy. Le Male Essence is IMO not a fragrance you can judge at first sniff. The opening is somewhat harsh with a lot going on, but when you reach the drydown, the true beauty of the fragrance comes through with a somewhat sweet, somewhat powdery leather. The lavender from the original Le Male DNA is still there, but it's far from dominant; the main notes I pick up on are cardamom (a TON of it in the opening), cinnamon, and that nice leather. What I'm still trying to pin down about Le Male Essence is its wearability. It's no doubt best suited for colder temperatures, but for what occasion? It's not as casual as the original but not as formal as, say, your average Guerlain. It's definitely a more mature take on the original Le Male, but I think there's enough sweetness and booziness in there for it to be appealing for a man in his twenties as well. Whatever the case, this is clearly a quality, well-blended fragrance with some thought put into it. It's not just another Le Male flanker; this one has its own identity and deserves the updated bottle. Performance is not an issue at all for me, as I get at least 8 hours of longevity. Give this one some time. It's a good one.

Another travesty!!!! Not this perfume, I love this perfume, but the fact I haven't written a Fragrantica review for it!!! I mean WTF is going on? Are my reviews disappearing or am I getting old an forgetting to post them? Anyway.... If you don't like the original Le Male, have no fear because this is nothing like it, but nods enough in it's direction to make you go 'ahhhh I see the thread.' A bigger more obvious nod though would be to the perfumers previous works of sparkly, cosmic, nebulae, fruity incense accords like Ganymede and Teddy, Bois Imperiale etc....etc.... but essence parfum seems to be squarely in the 'designer' realm, reining that sparkliness in somewhat and rounding off the edges with smooth, warm, spiced, lavender fougere type feel. Which as much as I love Bisch's signature style, I find it hard to wear those Barrois perfumes and such after a few hours because they are just too much, not in a bad way, they are brilliant just sort of.... emotionally draining. This however is spectacularly good, soft, wearable and was a huge suprise to me upon it's release, I mean I bought it immediately, I thought it was that good and just look at that reworked Flacon. Bravo to JPG for giving us something really meaningful in a sea of drab men's designer releases.

Burst of carmdamom and pepper in the opening. The scent settles quite soon and... And it's one of the best male perfumes I have ever smelled. I get mostly animalic leather, raw, masculine, yet still gentle. Very realistic leather so we are not talking about Bvlgari Black kind of a leathery/rubbery smell. It's accompanied by lavender, cardamom and underlined with very soft and gentle vanilla which is unlike in original Le Male far less sweeter. Deep down I get also a hinf of cinnamon and musk. All I can think of when smelling this and trying to find one word to describe it, is - sex. This is incredibly sensual, seductive. If I should picture a movie character it would Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing: that scene where he leaves Baby in his dark leather jacket, driving away in a classic American car and you know life is never gonna be the same after he leaves. I love original Le Male and I expected this to be flanker with Le Male plus something added. But I get completely new scent with only a little bit of original Le Male DNA added somewhere far in the background not to stand it in a way of a new, brilliant perfume. Fall to spring suitable for various occasions. Worthy signature scent for sure. To me 10/10.

bought 2 75ml bottles about a month ago from an old shop that SOMEHOW still had bottles in stock. 2018 batch, and considering how much i enjoy the fragrance i'd assume they're genuine. as a lavender lover and jpg enjoyer it's pretty clear this would end up as one of my favorites. opening is fairly bright and peppery, with the lavender influence being apparent from the beginning. the mids are super smoooothh, warm spicy and perfectly sweet lavender with a leathery base that isn't overly strong. as it goes on to the dry down the vanilla and amber become more and more prominent. a pleasant musk also makes it's appearance once dries down to a skin scent. this is classy and masculine and sexy and playful all at the same time. i'd happily wear this anywhere i go, though it's definitely better suited to cooler weather and for nights out. if i had to complain about anything regarding this fragrance it'd definitely be about its versatility. i initially bought two bottles of this with the intention of reselling them, though i've changed my mind since then, as i feel i'd much rather enjoy this fragrance for as long as possible instead of cashing them out. 100/10 from me.

A superb perfume, probably the best "Le Male" that you can currently buy. However, it's not the most suitable perfume for the habitual public of JPG fragrances (typically young people, avid for attention and compliments). It's less "playful" and that may cause confusion... ("Does this thing smell like... Leather? And... Sweet? OMG...") Ok, just wear it and you've got a high quality scent with a truly modern olfactory proposal: It makes a young man more interesting and seductive, and a serious man, more charismatic and appealing. Sounds good? Well, it smells fantastic. So you don't need me to tell you its notes, because you can read them, right..? What you need to know, is that it's wonderfully composed and has a beautiful interplay between them. Longevity: Easily 10h. Sillage & Projection: <2h average, the rest moderate. Lifestyle & Mood: This fragrance masterfully contrasts several concepts: manly but sweet, adult but fun, urban but refined, polite but wild, modern but traditional... You see it..? It is c.r.e.a.t.i.v.e. "Le Male Essence de Parfum" is simply what a great "designer" perfume has to be.

What a wonderful release from JPG. Following the current fad, JPG released a "parfum" flanker of their original, that is woodier & more mature. (See: Dior Homme Parfum, Bleu de Chanel Parfum..etc.) & JPG, it's a success! Le Male Essence de Parfum starts with a spicy saffron scent & a touch of woodiness & sweetness. As it fades down, vanilla, leather, & cardamom dominate to create this soft, mildly-sweet, woody, spicy smell that's just wonderful. Le Male EdP's is mature, beautiful, & attractive that it feels like it really attracts the attention of others when you wear it. I have to admit, though, that the smell is familiar. Something else I tried smell like this but I don't remember what & it didn't have the same effect on me as Le Male EdP does. JPG did it better! Know that I am not a big fan of the original Le Male nor gourmand scents in general. Le Male EdP blindsided me! I blind bought it just because I found a 7ml mini, so I added it to my cart with another order. I had no prior intention of buying it. Job well done, Quentin Bisch. I seem to like more & more of your creations.

Not really trying to hype this up more than it should or repeating the same terms said by other fellow reviewers but this truly is, the best JPG scent they have ever put out. The most unique (Not even CH Men Privé comes close to it, LMEDP was more complex, higher quality, the leather note, a hyperrealistic suede, the opulent cinnamon and the 80's - like opening. We could argue for hours on this scent, but i narrow it down to the next couple of terms: 1: Extremely expensive, just get a clone. Bozos on Ebay are asking 800 bucks for this. For that amount of money, better two bottles of Amouage, quite frankly. You're getting probably spoiled, Givaudan - composed liquid. 100 bucks or below? Maybe. 800? Not in a million years. 2: Mediocre performance on pretty much all batches other than the first formula. Seems like it has a Schiff base as well since the liquid dramatically changed in color. Unique DNA, yeah, but, mediocre - performing, synthetic - ingredient, prolly - spoiled? Just don't buy this, though i love it...

While everyone is chasing Ultra Male, Le Beau and the new Elixirs, the real ones know that JPG Essence de Parfum was the peak of the house! It is absolutely terrible that Jean Paul Gaultier discontinued this beast. Most JPG fragrances like the original or Le Beau are made for teenagers. They are sweet, they are loud, they are for the club, but Essence de Parfum? This is the version for the MAN. It takes that chiseled bottle and gives it broader shoulders and a more sophisticated, leathery soul. Look at the notes: that sharp, spicy cardamom opening mixed with a high-quality, rugged leather and a sophisticated woodiness. It’s not a bubblegum teenager scent. It’s a chiseled, masculine statement that commands respect. Its miles ahead of other scent profiles because it has depth and character. JPG, WHAT ARE YOU DOING!? Bring this back! If you find this bottle with the faceted, sharp-edged torso, do not hesitate. BUY IT! It is a masterpiece of modern perfumery that we lost too soon!

For me, this is the only JPG I like enough to buy. Normally I find their fragrances way too synthetic and meant for attention seeking teenagers. This one however, is completely the opposite. An absolutely stunning, classy and versatile fragrance. The only JPG that goes with a suit. This is in the same area as CH Men Prive, but Le Male Essence absolutely blows that out of the water. It has a great depth of notes and is incredibly well blended. Great longevity and decent projection without being overpowering. My girlfriend never cares about what fragrances I wear and will rarely make comments about them, but this stuff she absolutely loves! So if she is pleased, than thats saying something for sure Its a complete shame that this is discontinued, as I believe this is JPGs best fragrance by a longshot. Hopefully they have more ones like this lined up for the future!

LeMale with a hint of Ultra Male sweetness backed with leather/cinnamon/cardamom. Very dense and sexy! As it dries down, it's a little more creamier. I'm 44 and my wife is 45.....she likes sweeter fragrances.....me, not so much. Ultra Male is a little too sweet for me and even for my wife. Essence on the other hand drives her crazy....in a good way! If you're looking for complements, this one is a safe bet. Longevity....6-8 hours....perhaps a whole work day on clothes. Projection can be at least an arms length for 1-2 hours so don't overspray. You could wear this to the office if you're daring enough but definitely not a summer/warm weather fragrance. Oh....apparently this is now released as a blue juice? I only have the purple and my thoughts above are for the purple. Not sure if there's really a difference or if it's been reformulated? Cheers!

This is one of my favorites in my collection at the moment. I’ve explored many fragrances—from designer to dupes and niche—but nothing else resonates with me quite like this one. Sure, I have other favorites, but I feel this one is particularly special to me. I absolutely love the notes and the way they blend in this fragrance. I think it’s a great choice for year-round use, and I always receive compliments when I wear it. It’s truly outstanding for me and for the people I encounter in my daily life. I really enjoy the cardamom scent and how it enhances the original DNA of Le Male, making it even better for this time. I love how it’s fresh yet spicy at the same time, offering a creative twist on the original Le Male while making it even more special. It’s so enjoyable for many people, yet it remains wonderfully simple.

I found a a 125ml bottle at a duty free in Raleigh, NC and I couldn’t pass it up. I’ve been curious about this fragrance for some time but I couldn’t find it for sale anywhere as it had been discontinued. I don’t know where this shop procured a bottle of this discontinued juice but I’m glad they had it because it’s absolutely wonderful. Sweet but not excessively sweet, smooth vanilla balanced beautifully by a spicy cardamom and pepper note and framed by a subtle animalic leather. Heavenly. The best of the Le Male line in my opinion! It lasted for about 8 hours but stayed fairly close to the skin. Performance is very similar to what you get from D&G The One EDP making this an excellent choice for date night. Shame they discontinued this cause this is the STAR of the Le Male line up! Im going to cherish this bottle.

I ordered online and received a 2018 batch (gold cap). I love this fragrance.There are definitely Le Male vibes in this with the Cardemom, Lavender and Vanilla, but I prefer this flanker. Essence de Parfum is less sweet, more aromatic, and adds a soft Leather note which I smell throughout. This makes the fragrance more mature and more modern than the original Le Male. I test longevity on a cloth handkerchief which I keep in another room so I am not constantly exposed to it and don't go noseblind. Le Male Essence de Parfum lasts 10+ hours, but does not project a lot. It is office save and very good for more intimate dates. This is perfect for Spring because after the sweet winter fragrances I enjoy wearing Aromatic, Fresh & "Outdoor-sy" fragrances like this.

I'm in love with this one! It goes in the same direction as L'Homme Ideal EDP and CH Men Prive (because of the leather), but I love this beast more than others I mentioned earlier. I'm a bit skeptical about this one before but turns out I really like it. In the beginning, it smells boozy and pleasant at the same time. It dries down to this really great le male DNA with added sweetness and warmth (cardamom), similar to La Nuit de L'Homme. It lasts super long and projects like a beast. In conclusion, it's a combination of Le Male and a bit of La Nuit de L'Homme and I really love it that I purchased a full bottle right after getting a small decant. I'm surprised it doesn't get many attention or hype.

2018 golden cap blue liquid version that also kinda looks burgundy from some angles. This is a less sweet, more leathery version of CH Men Prive, less boozy and a bit more powdery. Much more lasting power than Prive too. The leather on it also has a strong iris/incense note to it that reminds me of Dior Homme Parfum in some ways. It also reminds me of Fahrenheit Absolute in some other ways. Overall I'm pretty happy with my purchase and would be inclined to get a backup bottle sometime in the future. Honestly a great flanker. Can be worn in summer if you do just 2 sprays, it won't overwhelm you in any way. Can't wait to wear this to the pub and drink Guinness with a shot of JW Double Black.

OMG people. I blind bought this for my ex many years ago. This is the most intoxicating opulent fragrance PERIOD. SEX SEX SEX. This smells dirty, naughty, expensive, rich and like panties are going to fall. It suited my ex's skin so well, I thought this one was made for him. It lasts for days even on the skin, leaves a huge trail. Heavy, deffinately for winter or night. Girls were literally stopping us on the street when we were tigether to askwhat fragrance is he wearing. I dont know a single flanker but this one - its phenomenal. It has a not that reminds of the JPG Classique, which is a fvourite of mine when it comes to sexy female fragrance nad it ties them to the same smell kinda.

I recently got a 2016 bottle from an auction and this scent was a very nice surprise. It is by far the most "odd" Le Male and is far away from the OG. For me that is a plus because the OG is not one of my favorite scents. Essence is a interesting take on the leather note and I also get a cherry-vibe from it as mentioned in one of the reviews below. The silage is moderate, this is a scent for yourself and people that come in close but it has a pretty good longevity I would say. I get around 6-8 hours from it. To bad it is discontinued but if you can find it at a reasonable price on an auction it is worth buying, I paid around 60 USD/55 EUR for an almost full 75ml bottle.
