Le Male In The Navy

Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male In the Navy is pretty awesome. Is it original, no not at all. Is it generic, mostly. That said it has its own character to it. Unlike most Le Male and Le Male flankers, I don't think it is overpriced. I've made that comment several times. Why, it has maybe only one clear clone to it and I cannot even call that a clone, since both came out at the same time. Le Male In the Navy is aquatic throughout. It opens up with some mint, but it isn't overpowering. This gives it an Eros feeling. That said, it is more aquatic Eros since there is considerable watery notes in the open and the mid. The open is water and the mid is sea water, maybe some salt in it. In the base is a vanilla and ambergris mix. It is a very clean but sweet medium blue fragrance. Le Male in the Navy is similar to several fragrances. I already mentioned Eros and fragrances that smell like it. It also smells like Invictus and the dozens of clones. There are also some similarities to Yves Saint Laurent Y and Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Sun Pour Homme. That said the fragrance that smells the closest to this to my nose is John Varavatos JVxNJ. The original blue bottle JVxNJ came out roughly at the same time as In the Navy with mostly similar notes. Pretty sure I smelt both in the same night and wondered if I smelt the same thing. JVxNJ isn't as widely available and has been discontinued so you may need to resort to In the Navy, but that is only because it is cheaper. Le Male in the Navy is a spring, summer and fall scent. It can be worn day and night. I do think it is damn near a skeleton key. While it has similarities to some fragrances, I do think that it isn't gonna be too close to "smell like an ex or brother." You will absolutely not smell like a date's father with it. I think it can work even dressed up because it is a clean smelling fragrance. You will also project pretty good with In the Navy and it lasts, so it can work in a club. Especially during summer nights. Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male In the Navy is a fragrance to get if you like Invictus but want something somewhat different to it. I am 99% sure this is why I love it. I rate it an 8.5 out of 10 for great performance, a great smell. The only knock if any is it smells like a number of fragrances on the market, even if it is better than some of the comparable options.

its not as sparkly mint as you ind in superman/popeye eau fraiche, i thought the opening was similar to dunhill icon racing and then goes towards new invictus aqua, but after an hour or so it changes...and to something nicer than the opening, it gets oceanic and fresh, like a sailor would portray, and gets sweeter with vanilla....not like le male show off kind but a gentle sailor who is soft/less spoken, and he sees a lot of the sea...reminded of roadster by cartier but not that intense or green, it say it has ambergris which is more likely to be ambroaxan, but it didnt annoy me....love the mid and base more than the opening. this is a nice fragrance for people who like ocean breeze minus the salt, like Erolfa, great under rated release....perfect time to wear is breezy summer days when its sunny :) 8/10

I bought this off of eBay and wow its the best fragrance I own. I went out to lunch just the other day and I got at least 4 compliments. Even my dad asked me to get this for him for his birthday lol. I got a 125ml for like $100 off of eBay so I don't have to worry about running out anytime soon. 10/10 fragrance. It really makes for a special spring/summer fragrance. The smell is super unique in my opinion and the longevity/projection is really good for me. My only complaint is that they discontinued it lol. Price: 10/10 (may vary since its only available on eBay now) Longevity: 8.5/10 (doesn't last quite all day but lasts closer to 6-7 hours) Projection: 9/10 (projects really nicely, doesn't annoy anyone but smells great) Smell: 10/10 (I can't say I've ever had an aquatic fragrance like this one)

After purchasing a 10ml decant and blowing through that I ended up picking up a new tester bottle at a good price on ebay. I recently sold my bottle of Popeye eau freiche, for me it was too sweet/juvenile and I just couldn't wear it anymore. This however is much more mature. I love the fresh vibrant opening and the vanilla drydown on my skin is so smooth. I would gladly choose this over most of the boring aquatic fresh scents out there other than Invictus Aqua (2016). Longevity is not as bad as some people have mentioned, but its not beast mode. I would say average. But then again I don't need a fragrance to last me 9 hours if i'm only going out for a few. Easy dumb reach freshie for going out to the store or the gym. I asked my lady friend's opinion and she definitely liked it!

This smells like the best JPG to me personally and it is very versatile. While I do agree this does resemble that vanilla scent you get from Eros, I would say you could wear this outside of the club and smell fresh and sexy which I personally disagree with Eros. It has vanilla but a great aquatic scent making you feel sexy and warm with the vanilla bean and the aquatic scent makes you feel much lighter than Eros so you can keep the party going. Definitely one of my favorite scents. As for the person below who says it smells like Nautica Voyage: Either you got ripped off on the smell, or you shouldn't comment on scents because I have the two bottles next to each other and no one would ever get these confused with each other.

As described in my previous reviews about Jean Paul Gaultier colognes, this is a classic 'Le Male' release; seductive, smooth and addictive. I bought 'Le Male In The Navy' as a blind buy with total confidence I would like it; I absolutely love it. It reminds me of 'Versace Eros' but less mint yet more aquatic notes. 'In The Navy' has a certain saltiness from the ambergris note, although sweeter. Totally safe to wear on colder days, as well as warmer climates; very versatile. The only note that seems to be missing from most Jean Paul Gaultier colognes is lavender, but I'm glad this makes it more unique. I'm not yet convinced of the performance, however, I'm persuaded it will match or even outperform its older brothers.

I’ve had this fragrance for several years with limited usage. During that period it was just an okay dumb reach. Yesterday I decided to revisit and give it a go. Wow! What a difference a few years make! A few extra sprays (6-8), and wow, wow, wow! This smells so good! That mint, sea notes and vanilla combo really make this more than just a “dumb reach!” Even the Mrs. was taken aback, and trust me that’s easier said than done! This was money well spent. I definitely see this playing a more active part in my spring/summer rotation. If you can get your hands on this, I’d say go for it. A great compliment getter. Longevity; 5-6 hours, skin scent thereafter. Sillage: First -2-3 hours. Versatility: Spring and Summer 8/10

A Le Male for the summer! Popeye Eau Fraiche is a great, freshened-up take on the Le Male DNA but it's better suited for spring IMO. This fragrance is even more refreshing and sticks with 3 main accords; peppermint, aquatic notes, and vanilla. The note breakdown is spot on and paints a clear picture of what this smells like. It works really well in the heat and the vanilla doesn't make it too cloying. It does not smell terribly unique but it is pleasant and mass pleasing. Performance is not bad at all, given how summer fragrances tend to perform. I get at least 6 hours with solid projection for 1-2 hours. It has some staying power and will linger on your clothes and skin for an acceptable period of time. 7.5/10

I wasn't expecting a whole lot, going off of a lack of people talking about this. I managed to score a massive 6.7oz bottle during a flash sale on an impulse buy. Allure Homme Sport Eau Extreme was what it reminded me of at first, with a saltier mint, that dried down to a watery vanilla that I found simple, but enjoyable. I found myself reaching for it more and more during the latter half of the summer, and it worked really well for me as a morning work fragrance. The Chanel does this scent profile way, way better, but is also way more expensive. If you enjoy the mint/vanilla combo, I wouldn't dismiss this, especially if you can get it for a good deal.

Another year, another Le Male flanker. It's not all bad though, In The Navy is a nice aquatic and minty take on the original Le Male. There are noticeable water/sea notes, mint and vanilla while still having remnants of the original Le Male sweetness lurking in the background. It does also remind me of Eros a little bit. Performance is not bad but not as good as the original. I get good projection for the first hour or two, then it settles. Longevity is not bad, I get about 6 hours before needing to reapply. Overall, a good Le Male flanker suitable for warmer weather. Ratings Sillage: 7/10 Longevity: 7.5/10 Scent: 7.9/10

Bought this off eBay as a blind-buy and it has quickly become my favorite cologne. The opening of Le Male in the Navy is very strong with the mint, and it can be a bit polarizing. However, the opening quickly dries down into this beautiful ozonic/aromatic sweet scent that is oh so pleasant and up-lifting. It puts me in a good mood when I smell it. Yeah, it's simple, but man It's addictively good. Sillage wise, it does the job perfectly. People notice it on me and like it, without it being too much in their face. Projection wise, I get ~6+ hours. It astonishes me how it's discontinued. I can't get enough of it.

No idea why this one gets quite some hate. It is a wonderful summer flanker, really fresh with lots of watery and sea notes. It was quite a blind buy for me and I didn't regret it at all. This one is very far from the original Le Male and Ultra Male too. I already enjoy this one at work, it gives me confidence and freshness, while being as quiet as it has to be. This has the base DNA of Le Male, but it is not quiet as strong. I can see the similarities to Eros, but only similar not a clone by any means. The mint does shine in this and I definitely get the salty sea notes, they are in there for the long haul. It is a sweeter dry down but the freshness is still there. I like this and it is a decent warmer weather fragrance. But could be worn inside all year. I would give this a 7.5 out of 10. Could be higher if it lasted and projected more, on both accounts it is average, but the scent for me is really nice!

Update to my earlier review : As I had suspected, this fragrance shines in the cooler autumn days. The mint reminds me of the summer gone and the vanilla beckons the winter to come. It has a perfectly balanced density which is not fleeting and smooth enough to keep you safe and cozy. Whereas I would wear Eros in Winter and Spring because of its projection and loudness, in the autumn I would wear the hell out of In the Navy. It also lasts over 24 hours on clothes which is fantastic. It's now one of my favourite autumn fragrances :)

Opening is a great scent of citrus while it slowly mellows out and you really get the amazing smelling minty notes paired really nicely with vanilla. Just by inhaling this fragrance makes me feel refreshed and cooled. This would be a great fragrance to rock in the spring/summer, but I could see this worn as a signature scent as it's not too overly sweet, so perfect year-round. If you couldn't tell, I really like this and if you're a fan of sweet/fresh fragrances then I definitely recommend this.

I have quite a large collection, but there is something about In The Navy that really appeals to me and I want to reach for it often during the summertime. This is a perfect summer fragrance, but not your typical citrus based fragrance. The way the mint works with the marine notes on the base of their synthetic ambergris really hits the mark. This is a simple, easy to wear fragrance that, for me at least, has a sort of mood uplifting quality to it. Perfect for the warm, sunny days of summer.

My take on it, if versace eros and allure homme sport eau extreme made passionate long lasting love on the beach, in the navy was born. A long lasting light fresh sweet, really all year round fragrance down to a certain degree maybe. I fell in love with this scent in macys, during the winter. I get all the dislike because it is different from the jpg line, and veers in a whole different direction. But its still a great long lasting sweet summer fragrance.

My husband and I just happened to be walking through the fragrance section at Macy's tonight....and there sitting on the counter, all by itself, was a bottle of this new fragrance.....we both tried it and we both liked it right away! The more we smelled it....the more we liked it. My husband even said he thinks he wants to get a bottle. I totally approve! It's been a few hours since then and I can still smell it on my hand. Oh boy! Wow!! So YUMMY!!!

This smells nice, but do NOT get confussed with the mint note suggested, this is Peppermint, it smells like the actual branches of the mint. There are other Le Males that have mint like Aviator, Airlines, and Superman, but the mint in those smells like the actual mint leaf. Overall, it does smells really good, the ambergris is pushing the sea+watery combined with pepermint notes A LOT, it is a very pungent fragrance the first hour.

This is just a mellowed down version of Eros to me, like others have already stated. All likelihood Eros EDP might smell like this? A little cloying under summer heat but just about tolerable. I can't really smell any sea notes. I think it needs slightly cooler temperatures to shine. I'm not unhappy I bought it and will wear it, but given I have lots of Eros in my collection, it's very redundant.
