Earth

This is such a beautiful rose-chypre perfume! A Very Classic theme like the Rose and Patchouli combo Is revisited in very modern way: by adding a hefty dose of aldehydes, slightly salty treemoss and I can swear I can also smell orange peel. Roses are the main players here, both the bitter May rose and the softer, fruity, Grasse rose are there, the patchouli Is very dry and earthy, with Just a hint of mushroom smells vibes. This doesn't reminds POAL in the least bit (luckily enough), I can understand the comparison with Voleur de Roses, still, this one Is very different, as It mellows towards the drydown, the woodyness softens, and you are left with a bunch of beautiful Pink rose petals. Very classy and perfectly in line with the Jilsander mood.

For the first 30 mins....it DOES smell like rose: then it smells like actual potting soil on steroids. I think I need this! The dry down is sublime! I would never guess by the notes listed above. I’ll update later in silage and longevity⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Experiencing Earth in the JIL SANDER store, I could only smell the black soil with the little styrofoam thingies in it! And I was mind blown! The coolest thing I've ever experienced. I then came home immediately to see what the reviews on Fragrantica were saying and a lot of ya'll mentioned rose! I was like, I don't smell any rose at all! Just straight dirt! Amazed by my experience I texted and called everyone about it. Then I was like you know what, let me go back and get a sample so I can show everyone instead of tell. Once I smelled the sample of the fragrance on it's own away from the store, I smelled the rose! This is in fact a rose fragrance! I'm shook! @DiskoDee below describes this as a wet rose bush type of scent and that is 100%! This is one of the most coolest things I've experienced in a long time. BUT the synthetic notes give me a terrible headache. I love the idea of using synthetic notes save the plants because it really does take a lot of plants to make fragrances in general, but I won't be able to enjoy this fragrance in particular because of it! Because this is such a bright and alive rose, this scent would do really well in spring time. I would like to experience this scent in a candle!

Earth is exactly what it says on the jar, unfortunately for anyone who hoped the name was literal. Soil, potting mix, damp ground. The dark crumbly stuff under your nails even. There is a very real mushroominess too, cool and porous and just a little stale, which tips it past “earthy perfume” and into something much more literal. Kneeling beside a fresh bag of soil after rain and getting hit with that humid, mineral, faintly fungal mist from inside. You can almost feel the grit between your fingers. It is impressively specific. Also, for me, not especially wearable. The wet-earth effect might just be a touch too close, too true to an unmanned ecosystem. There is no cedar nor patchouli curtain drawn across the scene to make it feel chic. Earth smells like earth, including the parts most perfume usually edit out: moisture, must, mineral weight. I practically see that something quietly decomposing into [earth]. I do respect it, of course, this pocket of cold atmosphere. But it is more art object than perfume for me. Strange, humid, tactile, and something I'd maybe rather not smell like.

This whole collection has been confounding. This is sweet, floral potting soil, the kind with the tiny white styrofoam in it. 🥲

I first tried Jil Sander Earth at the airport, and it completely captivated me. In that moment, it felt like the smell of air before a thunderstorm — or earth after rain. Something ozonic, weightless, almost transparent. Very delicate, very effortless. I fell in love instantly and kept thinking about it for a whole month. But when I finally bought it and started wearing it in my everyday life, the experience changed completely. I live in a tropical, humid climate, and here the fragrance behaves very differently. On my skin, it turns sharp, dense, and quite overwhelming. Instead of that airy, atmospheric feeling I remember, it becomes noticeably synthetic and heavy. At times, it even reminds me of mosquito repellent, which is really disappointing. I also don’t perceive any rose or other nuanced notes anymore — everything feels flattened and chemical. It’s a beautiful idea of a fragrance, but unfortunately, not wearable for me in this climate.

I don't get any "potting soil" at all in this. Not even earthy soil/forest or "worm" that has been described. Also no mushroom as one of the product notes list. I would have loved all of these unusual scents in this but I get none of it. What I do get however, is an absolutely gorgeous lovely realistic rose scent. Rose bushes that have been freshly showered with a summertime rain. I'm surprised at a fragrance called Earth would have such a prominent rose note throughout. I expected a more mossy, petrichor-soil type of scent. The patchouli here is also very faint which is also surprising. I think I need to wear this again possibly in warmer weather so it can perform and dissipate better. Maybe I will get that soil accord so many others are mentioning. Even still, it's a wonderful fresh rose centered fragrance that can be worn by a man as well as a women. The sillaige is very faint and is basically becomes a personal skin scent after an hour but I can't stop putting my nose to my wrist! It's great but the price is too high for what you get in the performance.

Lovely ozonic rose-patchouli aroma with a little more top end sparkle and clarity than Le Labo's petrichor-styled clean patchouli variant Baie 19. They're in the same wheelhouse, but this has a nice stemmy sharpness I pick up in the first few minutes- probably a little more rose focused than Le Labo's. The patchouli here is muted and one of those minimally intrusive types that shade things in a damp, leafy soil-like aroma. Over time it grows more singularly patchouli and rose based, with a refreshing camphor, but it honestly isn't as unique as some of the other ones in this lineup. I think Baie 19 ends up more unique actually, as this one becomes a familiar two-note drydown. kind of a dissapointment honestly.

i wouldn't have guessed rose as the main accord at first sniff. the sales associate said he thought it leans feminine, but i can see this working extremely well on any gender. beautiful and aldehydic, it's a fairly unassuming crowd-pleasing scent. i didn't get to test performance on the skin but maybe i'll go back to do that.....

Gorgeous and fresh rose top note. Subsides and makes way for a literal earth-wormy and soil-like aroma. A softer and more airy aldehydic patchouli is what you get, rather than true dirty or dank patchouli. Upon further reflection, this does also have a rubbery fishing bait thing going on. Deffo a fragrance for the worm lovers 🪱

What begins as a recognizable rose/patchouli settles/blossoms into a fully fleshed out, soily, green patch scent that keeps even the mentholated twang some patchoulies can have. Kind of like a Voleur de Rose Extreme.
