Sander for Men

I owned this scent many years ago. I repurchased Sander for Men about 2 years ago and I'm glad that I did. It still smells very similar to the original. If it has changed, they didn't alter the scent by much. It is a pleasant, unoffensive, spicy scent. It isn't overly spicy - which I can appreciate. The top notes detected are ivy, and mint. Middle notes of cypress, coriander and cardamom. The dry down fades to reveal base notes of cedar, sandalwood, black pepper and nutmeg. Frankincense, Myrrh and Labdanum are also said to be present. I have worked with these for years and I detect minimal if any of the latter 3 at all. If I could sum this fragrance up in a few words I would say: Smooth, clean, and balanced. When Jacques Cavallier created this he had a goal of creating a manly fragrance with minimal components. Mission Accomplished. The idea that less is more has succeeded with this timeless fragrance. The fragrance has good sillage and moderate and above longevity. I get at least 7-8 hours or more from 3-4 sprays. This one rates among my favorites, including ones that I have which are much more expensive. For me, this is not so much a 'wow' factor fragrance, but so DARN GOOD overall. It's a unique scent. One that would be safe in just about all settings. One will definitely not offend others at work. I've worn it to the store, going to the movies, out on dinner dates, to sporting events, to church and while going on a bike ride. I like the pleasant, fragrant and spicy smell. I have received compliments whenever I wear it. I've never once heard "your cologne smells like.." I'm always asked what cologne I'm wearing. I'm told that it is refreshing to not smell like every other guy in the workplace. I get smiles whenever I wear this one. It makes me smile when I wear it too. It's just right. I find it to be unique enough and not like every other boring scent out there. This is a highly underrated GEM! As I understand this fragrance has been discontinued, beware of fakes out there. There are numerous copies of this fragrance making the rounds. They are charging a lot for the fakes too. I rate this a solid 9/10 for me. The scent and balance of it all is what keeps me going back to it. I'm glad I have a couple of earlier vintage bottles of this great scent. I tried this one out again today - the end of January on a day near 55 degrees and was told "Hey, you smell really nice!" by someone in a store where I was shopping. It seems you really can wear this one in either warm or cooler weather.

This was always one of my hidden gems. I have a few sprays left of my last bottle, but now it appears it's been discontinued. I bought my last bottle for $17 (125ml), but now I see the same bottle from $127 up to $546. The price gouging has begun, and I'm sad to say, I probably won't be able to purchase this again. This is a subtly spicy, fresh, somewhat green fragrance that's unmistakably masculine. I get strong spice from the pepper, cardamom, and coriander, and to a lesser extent, the cloves and cinnamon. The ivy leaf, cypress, and mint give it just a hit of green freshness, and the base of cedar, sandalwood, tobacco, and labdanum anchor it with a pleasant drydown. It's clean, spicy, crisp, balanced, and artfully blended. This might be my favorite from Jacques Cavallier. I don't understand the hate for this in the reviews. I've never smelled anything like it, so to me it's unique and exciting, and pleasantly masculine, but not aggressively so. This is absolutely perfect. If you can find it under $100, grab it. And then tell me! 10/10 EDIT: This seems to be getting a bit easier to find again, and I don’t see the expensive prices anymore. It’s not as cheap as it was, but you can find the 125 mil bottle under $50.

Bought it during a transit stop to Zurich's airport back in May 2000. I was so impressed from the opening, fresh and peppery at the same time. The more I sniffed it, the deeper the sensation of its warm woody yet refreshing character. It's the absolute versatile perfume that I own due to the harmonius combination of such different and even contradictory notes: ivy and mint blend with cinnamon and pepper to get a sophisticated male perfume. I still have that bottle I got 14 years ago. Although I got many other perfumes since then, I still go back to this "old love" and every time I spray it on me, I realise why I appreciate this and never got tired of it. On my skin, it stays at least for 8 hours even on a sweaty summer day. Oh, it's also appropriate for an intimate night. There's such versatility going on here exactly due to the perfume's primary notes of herbal freshness and peppery wood warmth. Wear it in autumn or summer and it's perfecty suitable for almost all kind of events. So since my bottle is running low, I found a bottle of 125ml on the internet for just 20 Eu. Unbeatable quality and value for such an amount of money! Time for me to revisit this wonderful fragrance! Overall rating: 8/10

Recently purchased Amouage Beach Hut Man and my entire first wearing of it immediately reminded me of this fragrance which I had gotten at the age of 15 back in 2000. As you may know Beach Hut is a very GREEN fragrance and has nothing beachy about it. Likewise Jil Sander was a bit confusing to me because looking at it you'd assume it was an aquatic or quasi aquatic based on the blue liquid just like Azzaro Chrome, Nautica Voyage, D&G Light Blue Intense, and others with a similar color. Nope. This one smelled just like the ivy which grew on my home. Very fresh and extremely green. Superb performance from what I remember. Sadly this one has been discontinued, but if you don't mind the price Beach Hut is strikingly similar.

I got one on sale, it is a bit aged, and perhaps not so fresh. Anyway, it is light, I sprayed and got nothing, then it bloomed somehow, into a fresh scent, the ivy is top note for me its green plant scent is well perceived, mint with it make a nice green scent. It develops into a musky woody scent, with a very strong peppery note, like spicy mint, spiced up greens with musks and woods. I like it, its fresh, bold and has character. The cost is affordable and still in production, I suppose I will continue buying it, I do like it. I find it sexy and masculine and clean, clean but with some musk and earthy elements. This is a scent you want your man, or men to smell like, very sexy.

True stars don't do compare to someone else, they shine.. That's how I see this wonderful fragrance! I can't compare it to any other out there, in my opinion this is unique and very sexy. I mean really, I usually don't use this word but here I must. It's just perfect for intimate moments, it has some special vibe about it. The skin plays a big role here. Smells minty aromatic with some peppery bitter vibe, some light citruses around maybe, some herbs it's the ivy probably. Spicy but not pungent. Doesn't matter how old you are. It's not a sillagebomb but you can notice it because it smells gorgeous. Weapon for seduction!.... :-)

Reminds me of Cartier Roadster, fresh minty, but this is not the vetiver that the other is, however, this does smell sexy, green fresh, minty and peppery, musky but in a masculine, sexy way. I like it, like Roadster, this is how a man should smell like, fresh, clean and bold. I think their freshness is very sexy. I can smell the ivy mixing with the mint, with the musky, woody, spicy background, it is all well done. A fragrance you will love on your man, boyfriend and husband. I think men and mint go well together, musk and mint are sexy as hell.

My 3rd runner up and my most commonly used frag, Sander captures the essence of Activity. It delivers an energetic minty introduction that sets the mood for a typical day, then turns on the heat as it gets crisper and spicier - and sexier. The woody drydown is great. It's year round EDT that's perfect for office and hardly offends anyone. Sillage : amazing Longevity : 5-6 hours Feeling : Energetic Feedback : People love it Recommendation : Definitely worth a buy

Sander for Men is V Underrated Perfume. All Notes are well Blended and mixes well with each other, Especially Spices as it has lot of Spices. It Fresh Spicy Aromatic Woody. The Top begins with a Green-Fresh note followed by a Spicy Notes in Heart but all Spices Gel with each other & Woody in Base Notes. Can be Worn in All Seasons & Occasions. It is Crowd Pleaser & Compliment Getter. Projection & Longevity are V Good. My Rating for this Perfume is 4.5 out of 5.

A hidden gem, absolute bargain of a price (£20 in Amazon for 125 ml) It marries freshness and sweetness ..., class and sensuality. Good longevity and 3 feet projection. Smell is NOT unique but extremely pleasant... when I wear it, it feels as if "I want to make love to myself" Not in my top 10 of all time but I rate it very high and wear it regularly ... I think I have this for about 9 years now. I rarely wear it and I don't know why?! I rediscovered it a few days ago. It's fabulous! Short description : spicy-aromatic-green, a moderate to low projection and moderate longevity (4-6 maybe 7 hours). It has the same vibe as YSL L'Homme and I think it's a great alternative for it. Summer scent, date scent - both are ideal occasions for this one. A MUST BUY in my opinion!

Bright fresh spicy scent. It has similarities to Gevenchy Gentlemen only casual chic; same idea but different enough. Generic in a good way, it smells so neutral and clean. A fragrance to wear when you don't want to wear a fragrance. Well blended and excellent for office, for Gym or casual setups. Longevity is excellent for such a fresh fragrance. Good deal for 15 $ / 125 ml

Beautiful manly scent. I actually get more complimented on this than any of my other, way more expensive fragrances. Women love it, men love it. My only issue is that the longevity and sillage are pretty average; but at the price point I got it for (20 eur/ 125 mL), I can just reapply it and/or spray lots of it. Very versatile, I'd say it fits any occassion and any season.

It's like walking in the rain 😌🌧 very unique, fresh and uplifting ... very impressive harmony between the notes, a little from each.. In the 00s this fragrance was a must in my collection with Hugo Boss. I purchased Sander for men many times and as I remember every single time I felt excited as if it was the first time buying it. Pure love 💙 9/10

This is such an exquisite fragrance. I didn't know that this has complicated notes composition until I read about it here. On me, it has strong sillage which you would expect from heavy and rich perfume but the scent of Sander for men is just pure heaven. I haven't smelled anything like this on any other perfumes I have in my collection.

A blind buy 4 out of 5 stars. Good Clean, Fresh scent, not loud, a safe office scent. Drydown is very good, fresh, a little warm and just enogh sweet, the more I smell it the more I like it. I'm patting myself on the back for buying this, Good job me. And me likes Jil, Good job Jil.

I carry lots of memories with this perfume... 25 years ago and still it holds a place in my heart... im not sure if it was the first perfume I purchased with my own salary.. it reminders me with my youth, wildness and energy.. im searching for it and I dont know where to find it

I got it in German in 2008 and fallen in love with it. It can figure me out of other thousands of busenessmen at the international fairs. A very good tones design and I only see it in some West-European air ports. I walked around Sao Paulo and didn't get it.

A green fresh fragrance with a prominent mint and pepper scent profile. Duration is moderate and the same goes for projection. A truly unique and well rounded scent that works for all seasons.

I just picked up a 4.2 EDT on Ebay for $18. It is phenomenal for an inexpensive scent. The mint ivy opening is beautiful and not overpowering. Definitely a good buy

This has a close resemblance to Silver Shadow altitude by Davidoff....Very happy with the Blind by this is very nice stuff I'll give it a 8.0 and strength of 7.0

I'm a girl and I love it so much (on guys). I tried it myself and the lasting power is none :/ Great intriguing scent though. I will buy it for my man one day.

A cheap fragrance that gets the job done. Very inoffensive and gets positive compliments from women. A fresh, decent, and clean type of perfume.

The only male perfume I can stand and truly enjoy. If one day it will be discontinued my husband will not wear any perfume.

This is a nice, warm fragrance that fits the woody spicy category perfectly. I was drawn to this house nearly fifteen years ago when my father brought home a sample of feeling man from one of his travels. To this day, it (Feeling Man) still resonates in my memory as one of the best fragrances I've ever smelt. That experience set me on my Holy Grail quest to one day own the elusive Feeling Man. So far I have been unsuccessful at procuring the long discontinued fragrance, however, there is something in Sander for Men that reminds me of Feeling Man. I'm not sure if this was supposed to replace it, but I do detect a similarity between the fragrances. Having gotten that out of the way. I agree with most reviewers that Sander for Men is a very warm, elegant and classy fragrance. I don't get any of the notes that most people rate as the main notes though. I detect a strong clove note in the opening. After about an hour, the clove becomes subdued by the coriander which to me gives of a strong soapy overtone before it transitions into the sandalwood, forming the base of the fragrance and adding a slight sweetness and warmth to it. I get a minimum of 5hrs from each wearing and the feedback for this fragrance has been all positive. Sander for Men is perfect for formal occasions and intimate settings. Though most people here classify it as a daytime scent I think it wears best at night. Overall it's a great masculine fragrance that you shouldn't pass by if you get the opportunity to sniff.

I have worn this a few times now, ready for a review: I admit to a little disappointment when I first applied this. It initially hit me as a little generic, commonplace "fresh" scent that I've smelled so many times before. It was even a little weak at first application, and my thought was "what am I going to do with 4 oz. of this stuff?" Well,happily, I was wrong in my initial reaction. This scent improves as it evolves on your skin. In the middle and late stages, it becomes far more interesting -although subtle- than I thought it would be. There is a quality blend of gentle spices that make this have more depth than typical masculine "fresh" scents. The note breakdown would seem to indicate that it is heavy on the spices, but it is not. They are blended well and do not overpower at all. Just a hint of them in the dry down, which makes the scent more layered and less linear. This is an easy to wear, comfortable, nice fragrance. I will wear it to work a lot, as it seems suitable for all seasons. If you want a good, inoffensive, and somewhat original take on a fresh, green scent, I recommend Jil Sander for Men. At the price it goes for, why not? Easy blind buy, imho.

Ive been wearing this scent to work and part of my revolving scents for a year, from winter to spring to summer and now only 1/3 of the juice is left in the bottle. This is a very safe scent to wear in a construction project and I also earned a compliment from this. Being safe, this is not daring nor loud to catch everyone elses attention and I like it this way. Maybe its just not my style to wear a loud perfume---this time an EDT. I just want to smell good on my own nose and this scent just did it with a passing grade of 7.9/10. I like the green and fresh notes of ivy, Brazilian mint, and cypress that creates a cooling effect on the olfactory nerves. I disagree with reviews describing this as a warm scent. SOAPY/FRESH/FRUITY GOOD soapy-fresh-slight fruity SCENT with GOOD PROJECTION & PERFORMANCE/LONGEVITY (Jill) Sander for Men start's and last the same throughout, smells like fabric softener or dryer sheets. Starts off soapy and slightly fruity-sweet added by a moderate fresh minty greenness, with the soapy and fresh-greenness becoming more prominent and the slightly spicy-fruity-sweetness plays the background as it dries; very similar to Montblanc's Individuel but more smooth and not as loud; "mass-appealing" scent (probably won't wow anyone in the projection dept but has a very clean fresh laundry vibe that's hard not to like); Good Sillage/Projection & Good Performance (last a while, way longer than just 4 or 5 hrs). 3 season (Spring, Fall, & Winter) day-time frag, to me it's too sweet for summer or hot temperatures (would be cloying).

Fresh, crisp, transparent, clear, sharp, minimalistic, well balanced, a bit spicy, herbal, woody and watery. I like Cavallier's works and this is not an exception. It's undoubtedly synthetic and smells like nothing else but it's also unbelievably nice and comforting to my nose. I can pick up pepper, ivy, sandalwood, nutmeg etc, but it's really well assembled and mixed. Not much of a transition here - first 20 minutes it erupts with plenty of different notes and shades but after that it becomes minimalistic, elegant, woody-herbal smell with very good silage and good longevity. Although it's woody spicy it can be easily placed with aquatic/fresh genre and beat most of them. I use it as spring/summer and casual Friday office scent. Silage: above average, longevity: good. 8,5/10

Nice, clean, modern and not so common. Opening is not so green and natural on me, but it's definetly fresh and cool. (Mint? Or ivy? I can't get it clearly but something fresh and icy) I'm not in love with the opening, I think it's getting better and better down to basenotes. Middle notes; it's getting softly spicy but still fresh. Pepper, cardamom and corriander together. They are all light and smooth. Again I can't get the ingredients clearly but the overall feeling is good indeed. And base notes; best part of the scent! Slighty sweet woods, with some herbal notes and still has little bit of cardamom... Nice. Longevity is ok, around 6-8 hours. Projection is good for the first 2-3 hours then it stays close. Okay scent. Safe choice, without being ordinary.

This is a good light woody spicy (a bit of pepper) scent that can be used at any occasion at any season but has for me one big drawback (and therefor I sold my bottle) and that is: This is TOO inoffensive and TOO safe after the fresh opening, that lasts 15 mins, to get a thumbs up. For me a fragrance must at least have something daring or contain an interesting part that makes it special. Can be a tiny 'part' but must be there in a frag for me. This frag lacks on that level and is therefor pretty boring in my opinion. This is one of the most perfect fragrances for people who only want to own one fragrance all year around and stick to that. Sillage and longevity are safe and average. Not for frag addicts! Neutral: Rated: 6-/10

When you wanna blind buy and give a picky friend or family a nice scent buy this one! zero (0) dislikes!(from 102) that says something I had a small bottle in 2002 and i really liked it then. but i never saw it back then till nowadays. I've tested it a few days ago and i must say its still a very pleasant, fresh, integer but comfortable scent.i love the softness in it. Not mystical, not dark, not playing games with your nostrills... Just a good and comfy fragrance ofcourse in a good way! Sillage/projection is average to good Longevity is ok Good for office or day in the park wearing. Will buy it someday again, but for now i just need more thrills and excitement scents so i skip this one for now

Jill Sander Men is a minty, green scent. I never cared too much for it until I smelled it on someone. Without asking I knew it must have been Jill Sander Men. When applied at the right time, this can be a surprisingly fresh and pleasant scent. Especially when it's hot outside and the sun has already set. Not a "panty dropper", but a comforting, easy, non offensive fragrance. In contrast to other reviews I think projection and longevity is above average. This must have something to do with the uniqueness and recognizability of Jill Sander Men. 7,5/10

Sander for men is a really nice fragrance. It's very casual, energetic and different from other many aquatic/citrics scents. This EDT opens with some green notes (ivy and brazilian mint) and a little bit sweet with the cinnamon. These top notes are refreshing and they remind me of Mentos mints. Some peppery notes appear during drydown, but without changing the initial smell. Sander for men is a nice scent for summer days and longevity is good enough to resist on hot days (> 6h). My final rating: 8.0/10

This is how you do a job perfectly, from the packaging, to scent, passing by bottle design and affordability. I can only say it's neutral scent won't annoy anyone, although some people might not like it due to the strange note of Ivy. It has similarity to Gucci II, they both have spicy cooling effect. Cinnamon and tobacco tuned down in the background doing the job silently. Very versatile scent, although I prefer to wear it casual. I have no regret for this blind buy......

Very pleasant smell. For me it was always heavy on the black pepper not,e but in a very pleasant way and with very fresh undertones. I understand why it's marketed as a masculine scent - it distinctly lacks floral and sweet notes - but if you close your eyes and ignore what it says on the bottle it's very gender neutral, and as someone who usually dislikes sweetsr scents i find it perfect. None of the heavy muskiness a lot of male scents often include

Amazing scent, one of the few that could be weared in the office with suit and tie and also in casual clothes or in club. Unfortunately the longevity si very poor - sprayed a lot over clothes at the end of day is almost imperceptable, the sillage last only 1-2 hours maybe if i'm blaming olfactive fatigue. I used today around 25 puff and in the and i barely feel it on shirt Anyway i bought it for 15 eur 125 ml so i afford to spray all over

I bought this fragrance as a blind buy with another fragrance because it was only $27, initial purpose of this was just a cheapy to wear to work (not in an office environment). I am This fragrance is perfect for summer/spring and even early fall, very fresh at first - strong notes of ivy. Very clean, non offensive and would be perfect for a work fragrance. Highly recommend even if its a blind buy because it is so cheap.

Beautiful fragrance, delightfully fresh at first(mint+ivy), but not watery. The middle notes are a bit fruity to me and a little more spicy. I love all of its notes (maybe except cinnamon, but it's not too obvious in this scent). Down to the base notes, it gets sexier and i smell something like "man" note in it. Too bad I'm a woman, 'cause I would have enjoyed using it; its smell makes me feel comfortable and focused.

A very nice green fresh scent that dries down peppery, spicy and soapy. Always stays fresh too. In fact, the dry down is by far the best part. A very pleasant fragrance that lasts with an excellent silage. A really nice summer fragrance. To add.....the dry down is almost identical to Cerruti 1881 Summer Fragrance pour Homme. There is a slight negative here, the bottle design is quirky and awkward.

Just tested today, reminds me of something very very known but could'nt figure out !!!Any ways very nice. fresh,spicy,tender sweet, touch woody and clean scent, no doubt! Sillage is fine and longevity on my dry skin is very good (5 hrs plus), the price is also attractive. Can be an every day scent or may be a signature to. PPl who like Herrera or D&G type scents can blind buy. Worthed. Neat Show

I decided to try Sander for Men due to its extremely competitive price. What a great surprise. The box and bottle are beautiful; perfect for a gift. The juice is spicy and very aromatic. It smells classy and clean without being boring. It has plenty of personality. Four sprays lasted me all day and got me two compliments. Not to be missed.

Unique sweet mint with mild spices and cucumber feel. One of the freshest,cleanest crowdpleasers in my collection. Non-offensive blue-green-soapy but still very distinct and masculine.Extremely well balanced . You want to smell like this coming out of the shower.Cant go wrong with this one. A bargain for the 25 dollars I paid.
