English Oak & Redcurrant

This is a fabulous perfume ! Fresh juicy ,aromatic and natural smelling. To me it feels like there is a definite patchouli note in here. In fact when I smelled it first it felt like a rose patch scent to me. It starts of very juicy and fresh ,sour sweet red currant with a hint of rose. The rose soon becomes dominant and the woody aspect just adds depth and warmth. There is a nice cologne like aftershave feel to it ,a men’s cologne vibe, which I enjoy. It’s refreshing and beautiful ,really well done and not as flowery as some other JMs I own. Definite unisex but some lady’s may find it too masculine for their taste. However it’s not dirty and deep and manly it’s more like a sweet,juicy fresh rose cologne if that makes any sense. I own quite a few JMs and this is one of my favourites. I have not yet tried the englischen oak and hazelnut but I am tempted to blind buy it although most reviews say it’s more on the masculine side. Which doesn’t scare me off. GREAT SMELL that works all year round ! As a reference ,other JMs I love Wood sage and sea salt Nectarine blossom and honey Poppy and barley Honeysuckle & Davana From the intense line I mostly enjoy Velvet rose oud and the discontinued iris and white musk.

It was a strange love at first sight for me. Firstly I was drawn by this interesting combination of notes. I usually am sick and tired of fruity notes in fragrances but this is quite an elegant combo. At first strike, it shows woody, masculine facete. A little bit fresh and energetic, jumpy. But not fresh as generic man's aftershave for young boys wannabe grownup men. Not at all! Just a soft moist and lively oak wood. Then, just at the right time, the rose starts to show up, balancing everything so it's masculine and feminine at the same time, stops it from going too fruity and infantile and form going too blunt and roughly woody and sour. I find it pleasant for any time of the day and year. Very long lasting on the skin with or without additional moisturization. Absolutely fantastic woody fragrance! It reminds me of Narciso Rodriguez elegance in fragrances, a bit musky.

I received a tester of both English Oak & Hazelnut, English oak & Redcurrant! My JM counter in Oberhausen Germany just informed me that I was one of the lucky ones who will receive both fragrances in 30 ml as a special gift! I have tested the English Oak & Redcurrant last Saturday. First spray on my skin, it was sweet fresh and fruty. I would consider it very similar to Grpefruit and Pomegranate noir, but not as complex. It is a fresh simple fragrance which is very Jo Malone. After a few minutes in the dry down, the woods come out! Very subtle & shy English Oak! I love it! * Since Rose is listed on the main notes list, I would say that it is not totally a floral scent, more fruity fresh scent for me.

This has been my favorite fall/winter scent for the past two years. An addictive, fresh and spicy concoction of crisp woods and sour yet flirty redcurrants that become this beautiful, refreshing scent. A tiny hint of spicy powder. Very natural and down to earth yet sophisticated. A very multi-use scent as it feels fresh enough to be a day scent as well as mysterious enough to be worn in the evening. Good longevity. A very natural but noticable scent with zero sweetness, unlike many other perfumes which rely heavily on sugary notes. Can be unisex but to me this is more feminine. The English oak and hazelnut is also lovely and has more masculine notes.

The opening is super pleasant and I get red currant which is a very berry and fruity note. It ́s starts of as a very happy and fruity scent, quite bold. Then it transforms into a beautiful delicate rose, it ́s not a seductive rose.... more delicate, young and fresh and much complemented by the red currant. After a few minutes the red currant disappears and the rose is left together with the oak as a base... very very beautiful 💟 In my opinion this i s a very successful combination which I like a lot 😍 almost a LOVE! As someone else mentioned - GREAT SMELL that works all year round! It ́s a compliment getter.

This smells like the entrance to EPCOT at Disney World, which has beautiful oak trees between the parking lots and the entrance. I’m thinking about spraying a little of this in the dirt to see if an oak tree sprouts out of the ground. This and English Oak & Hazelnut are excellent representations of the trees that I loved to climb growing up and love to see the wind blowing through the Spanish moss along the riverside. It’s nice when you can be anywhere and nowhere at all and still smell something as if you’re right there. This is really, really nice.

THis is becoming one of my favourite Jo Malone colognes. It is spring here in Australia and it is a lovely scent to wear in this weather. I mix it with Blackberry and Bay and it is divine. Yes, it does remind me of Diptyque's L Ombre Dans L'Eau (which I also love). I love the tanginess of the redcurrant note. Lovely and fresh for warm weather. Other combinations I like are with Basil and Neroli and also wood sage and sea salt.

I absolutely love this and hope to own it one day! This is a scent I could use up in no time, it's just that comfortable to me. It's worthy of any occasion and perfect to make everyone wonder what she smells like without knowing...and wanting to keep smelling it!

I'm not a fan of fruity fragrances other than fig but I must say this is a real winner. Woodsy, fresh and bright. Beautiful bitter, crisp opening that really impressed me. Both women and men can wear this comfortably.

This was a blind buy, and it did not disappoint. it's light and sophisticated, a beautiful combination of fruit and wood, filled out with rose. it doesn't last very long on me, but i ain't mad about it.

Because people have different tastes. Some people want to smell like candle or room spray; some people want to smell like they've been baking all day; some want to smell like forest trees or wild flowers; some wants to smell like they came from the beach (with a little sweat); some wants to smell like leather or animals; some want to smell like incense or potpourri; some live for oud and some detest it... There is no need for such question—You either appreciate it, learn to appreciate it, or don't. For me, I don't like metallic scents and that's my PREFERENCE; I also don't want to smell like "just another guy wearing a typical cologne" but I don't find them stinky and don't question their choices. Society may limit our way of thinking (like "perfume" is for women, aldehyde is for old ladies, and only girls can wear fruity-florals), but you don't have to limit yourself :)

English Oak & Redcurrant has a deep, mossy woodiness to it that I find wonderful, as well as a prominent juicy tartness from the berries. And then the rose note rounds it all out and tames it slightly. It makes me think of an Edwardian manor house with an ancient mossy oak that’s grown up huge and tall beside the back corner of the house. The oak has rosebushes growing at its base, and there’s a thick hedge of red current running slightly wild along the property wall. EO&R smells like nature that’s been somewhat cultivated, but is still earthy and alive. It’s a beautiful scent but not necessarily a pretty one. It smells contemplative and unselfconscious, like an adult woman who climbs up into a tree when she needs to think.

Many might say this unisex fragrance leans more on the "masculine" end of the spectrum. But there is a time and place for every type of scent. Or at least that's what I believe. I don't wear this often on its own, but I haven't found a fragrance yet that I didn't like layering with this (right now it's Roses de Chloe). On me it starts off a bit sharp and sour but settles down after 10 min and the oak comes out really obviously...and just keeps on coming. This scent stays on my skin and clothes all day. Actually I find all the Jo Malone frags I own very long-lasting and I'm baffled by people saying they have poor longevity. I guess we're all different. Good thing there are thousands of fragrances to choose from!!

Beautiful, but not long-lasting, even by Jo Malone's standards. I could not get this to stay on me with any projection at all--after 2 hours it became more or less a skin scent. The oak note is unusual, and the tart redcurrant opening is succeeded later by a rose note. This is a very English fragrance... if only it lasted longer, it would be fantastic. I am confused by those complaining below that this is not a strictly feminine fragrance, because it has been clearly marketed to both men and women. This is perfectly unisex, as it announces itself to be.

I didn’t like it when I first bought it, I kept it and take it out to try every now and then. About ten times later I start to like it. I found that this is the only perfume I can use when I am sick/ nauseous/ extremely sleepy, you know when you are not feeling too well, all your favorite perfume / food/ wine they become not that tasty and then make you more sick. I don’t use this JM red current and oat alone, but it’s definitely helping me a lot in different situations, I don’t think I can be without it in my collection.

I oversprayed it because it is a cologne but... I dont know if it is the overspraying or the fabric of my clothes (pullover), i was able to smell it after 5+ hours! I wasnt expecting it at all. It is really office friendly, even overspraying didnt give me headache. About the scent; i smell oak and rose mostly, not sure about red currant. Fresh cut oak. Not like a white floral or fruity fragrance, it's classy in my opinion. This is what I call safe fragrance, you can wear anytime anywhere.

I was looking for English Oak and Hazelnut, but it was out of stock, and this one was available. So, I ended up getting this. This one is nice with prominent fruity accord. Unisex and versatile enough without being generic. Red currant or raspberry like scent is there till drydown, with oak is whispering at the background. Performance-wise is good enough with several spritz on skin and several on clothes. It lasts the whole office hours. I am quite happy with English Oak and Redcurrant.

For me, this is more about the rose note, with the red currant and oak as supporting players. It's not an overpowering rose, it's just right. The currant adds just enough tart fruitiness to tone down any sweet flowery-ness there might be from the rose, and the woodiness of the oak kinda ties it all together and mellows it all out. A true unisex fragrance. I'm not usually a fan of rose, but this is wearable to me, more so than other male rose fragrances like Habit Rouge.

Redcurrant is sweet and bit spicy in the opening, but it is very easy to disappear on my hands, then roses and oak wood are quickly took over the top note to make it rosy yet woody, overall it is smooth soft spicy rose wood, combination of rose and wood are very simple composition, I can wear it every day, very inoffensive, I like it a lot, this perfume is remind me of Lancome Miracle with loaded of oak wood

I feel like I am in an old fashioned room with dark oak panelling, open to a woodsy late fall landscape. It's a cozy scent, definitely unisex. It seems naturally spicy, in the way spruce can be. I get the berry freshness right away, but it is the oak that lingers. On me, it is completely gone in 2 hours. I don't think I will add this to my wardrobe, but I could really enjoy it as a candle.

To my surprise, the backbone of this fragrance resembles a masculine fougere; I can almost smell bergamot, lavender, moss, and a touch of tonka once the amazing namesake notes wear off. Although it doesn't always turn specifically into that, the drydown can still be somewhat disturbing to me...I wish it'd just stay "Oak & Redcurrant" longer (wouldn't hurt being stronger either).

Smells like Redcurrant next to a rose bush and the wooden branches and structures of the bushes. It is a really solid fragrance that lives up to its name with is common with Jo Malone scents. But since it is a Jo Malone scent it is weak in projection and longevity, which is such a shame. But it is good, mostly a spring or autumn scent I'd say.

Growing up my neighbor's house was a vacation home and she didn't mind if I hung out in her yard which I often did. It was small but had a fig tree and a lot of ground ivy which smelled divine after it rained, and that's what this perfume smells like to me. It's wet branches and leaves, but in an elegant way, not like a dirty earthy scent.

It’s an interesting and very unique scent. I loooove it but I’d prefer to have it as an interior scent for a couple of reasons: it smells like vegetation to me (snow peas, tomatoes and rhubarb maybe); also I don’t see how it could work nicely in my skin (it’s quite sour and bitter). This literally smells like an oak tree and morning dew. I wasn't a huge fan of it at first but it has grown to be a comforting scent for me. Lasting power is decent for a JM and silage is minimal as usual. Leans a little masculine. I very much appreciate this scent.

Very woody, but it is not oriental type of wood which is so typical for perfumery. The name 'English Oak' surely matches this scent. I can also smell a bit of rose and very little of currants. All in all, it's quite extraordinary.

I get quite a bit of celery from this one and not much else except woody celery. Also quite similar to Blackberry bay...like but not love. Blackberry bay is better imo, more unique and similar fresh outdoorsy vibe with more wood

I could hardly believe there is only 3 notes to it... BUT actually it smells like a perfect and harmonized combination of woody-fruity-floral notes so it might be correct!

First blast of sweet fruit and an almost spiced musky white wood. Starts bright but quickly turns warm but still fruit sweet. Disappears fast but that's to be expected with cologne strength. For the 5 minutes it lasts, it's sweetly inoffensive, not very woody at all and it's more roses than anything at this point. I do have a feeling that the roses will last longer than anything since the wood notes aren't very strong. Shall keep my nose on this. Feminine and would work for all weather, methinks. 6+ hours later: Surprisingly, this one does have some staying power but all that's left is a sweet vaguely woody rose.

purchased a bottle (second hand so its had time to sit around) and oh my God... why. just why. i can only smell the prominent oak note witha bit of citrusy cologne freshness. i wanted to switch up my mostly gourmand choices for this one but i fear its not all that. definitely suitable to be spritzed on salty skin after a dip in the ocean but for school or the office a definite no-go. i also find it to be on the more masculine leaning side.

Agree with some of the other reviews here - do not buy without trying it on yourself first! I loved it just smelling a card sample and thought I'd found my perfect winter fragrance... but found the lovely fresh fruity notes disappeared within minutes and just left a very strong woody scent. Not unpleasant but far too masculine for me... would like it on a man though.

I really enjoy the combination of Oak and Redcurrant in this concoction. The oak gives a depth to the otherwise light and airy redcurrant that makes the entire composition. However, I've grown wary of Jo Malone fragrances after three prior purchases. In each case, the tester gave acceptable longevity and silage, but actual bottles proved disappointing. After testing this on multiple occasions at multiple retail locations, I thought this might be a winner an bought a bottle at Neimans. However, on first application, I noted I'd been duped again. I proceeded to apply 12 sprays, six on my clothes, four on my neck, and two behind my ears. Within 15 minutes, I asked my wife who was standing about 18" away what she smelled. "Nothing," she responded, leaning in to about 6". At 6 inches, she smelled it. I explained I was wearing 12 sprays. "Lord, that was a waste of money," she responded. So, this is my last Jo Malone purchase. Silage is nil. Update July 16, 2024, six years later: This fragrance has really opened up to become moderately strong and long lasting. Since I had given up on it, I let it sit in a room where the poorly engineered AC regularly creates 10-15 F temperature swings throughout the day and made no attempt to keep it in the dark outside of the fact it’s a dim room. It’s an okay fragrance now, but a 6 year wait?

This has a very interesting, totally non-sweet berry opening. It is soon followed by an almost grassy oak note, that I personally love. After dry down, the grassy oak note is balanced out more by some general woodiness and some of that lovely, unsweetened berry that contributes more of a slight freshness at this point. I definitely would categorize this primarily as a green fragrance; I find it fascinating that it is labeled as floral fruity and there are absolutely no green accords listed. I like the final fragrance, but boy howdy does this fade fast. Thirty minutes after applying, it's almost no where to be found. That's my experience with most Jo Malone scents outside of the cologne intense line. They are pretty, no doubt, but I can really never get them to last even reasonably well.

This is a masculine scent which I wouldn’t recommend to females. Not a fan as a perfume as it reminds me of a Christmas candle. I would recommend English Oak & Hazelnut for men over this. I’m selling a near full bottle in the U.K. if anyone is interested.

underrated scent, which is in the same vein of a clean, unisex, great alternative to Santal 33 and it’s clones. When worn by women it’s considered edgy and intriguing. Everyone always asks me what I’m wearing. working in the beauty industry, my colleagues deem it cool and fashion forward, because it is not overly sweet or feminine, and has an intriguing unisex quality to it. I bought this one blind as I liked the English Oak and Hazelnut so much. There is a strong similarity in the opening notes but the wear off / dry down is almost exclusively roses on my skin...Redcurrant doesn't seem to feature after 5 minutes. As a 53 year old guy this is not what I really wanted or expected. This really isn't a scent you'd want to use at the start of the day as sillage is long, significantly longer than average for JM products and if you're a bloke, the roses might annoy after a while. I think I'll keep the bottle and use it for the occasional layering squirt, but this needs to be used subtly. I'm open to suggestions as to how to counteract the rosy dry down....Wood sage and sea salt?

I just want to say this is a masculine-leaning fragrance. I wish someone had been more upfront about this before I blind-bought a travel size because it's not my preference. This is a nice woody fragrance; it smells like oak. After 2 hours, there is the faintest whisper of rose. But this definitely leans masculine, it just wasn't wearable for me, so I gifted this to my dad. It has a sharpness which reads as "perfumey" to my nose. If you are looking for a masc-leaning woody fragrance, I would recommend Sequia from Abbott; it's much softer and well-rounded.

Very woody opening, and only the slightest hint of fruity. While marketed as unisex, this is definitely a masculine fragrance. The first spray definitely surprised me as I was expecting something less masculine, but luckily it is quite easy to layer this with a more feminine JM cologne and neutralize the much too strong (for my taste) Oak. Lasted longer than other Jo Malone variants, but I would much prefer smelling this on a male. I think Pomegranate Noir would work better if you were in the market for a unisex woody JM cologne.

The opening refreshing fruit disappears in no time. Then it's all masculine woodsy cologne for me. My take is similar to Olya-la's. I'm surprised this reminds some of l'Ombre dans l'Eau and Dewberry. Hmmm, maybe I should try tester at another store? UPDATE: I tested it again. This time I get the slight resemblance to L'Ombre dans l'eau. English Oak & Redcurrant has a fresh opening like many Jo Malone. The resemblance quickly dwindles after this short opening. Overall it is more woody, more masculine and less complex.

I'm writing this review because I don't see it written anywhere. Why do people like Jo Malone? I can't understand. I keep trying samples of all the different scents. This one has a lovely red currant opening and wood base, exactly as it says in the name. But this doesn't smell like something I want on my body, it smells like a glade candle. This would be great as a potpourri or as a room spray. No lasting power. Maybe an hour, if you're lucky. Nothing interesting or offensive about it.

Smells of a new high quality cabinet for your kitchen Pleasant and even artistic, but cannot think of any time to wear it. It is dry and I thought there would be more redberries to make this more balanced or even fruity. I think older men who love woody fragrances will enjoy this most 4 hours longevity and fair to poor projection on me

in my opinion, this smells like men cologne with a lot of bergamot and woodsy notes in it. please do not blind buy this.i blind bought this because i thought it will be fruity woody scents with a touch of rose. but it's not! the redcurrant in here is very juicy though. it's good, just it's not your typical fruity woody scent.

I don't find this fragrance masculine. It lacks sweetness if compared to gourmand fragrances but it's super fruity and slightly woodsy to my nose. The rose is shy but it's here. I love it for the scorching Brazilian summertime! Can't stand smelling vanilla when it's above 30 Celsius out there.

This for me smelled like if I did a full day of tree hugging and hiking in Fall, with dew dampened different colored leaves blanketing the ground. It is a familiar and cozy smell of living somewhere with 4 seasons, though I do not like wearing that memory on my body.

Have you walked through a candle store around Christmas time when cranberry and pine is all the rage? That's what this reminds me of, but in a more subtle way. After an hour or two, I didn't detect the redcurrant much, but the oak lasted around 5 hours on me.

Unfortunately fruity notes of redcurrant and rose are hidden under very strong woody notes which make the fragrance more suitable for men audience. Anyway, I would not recommend it for a blind buy. Do test it before buying.
