Frangipani Flower

This doesn't smell like sunscreen. Sunscreen smells like this. It's coming from the salicylates, mostly benzyl salicylate. Fun fact: in the same way these salicylates protect flowers from UV radiation, they are often used in sunscreens for the same protection. So that's why we associate this flower with the smell of sunscreen. How's the scent though? Incredibly realistic. When I was in Hawaii, I picked a fresh frangipani flower and carried it around all day just to keep smelling it. While I haven't done a side-by-side test, this is spot-on from memory. It opens up with a very, very subtle citrus that is overtaken by a little bit methyl anthranilate (a dry, grape-like aroma chemical that essentially turns neroli into orange blossom, or jasmine into tuberose). There's also some added sandalore for depth. Personally, I don’t get any jasmine or ylang-ylang. Maybe they're just really good at hiding inside the frangipani, because I can't distinguish them. And the complaints about performance are absolutely ridiculous. It's like buying a Mazda Miata and complaining that it can't tow a 10,000-pound trailer. Look at the breakdown: benzyl salicylate, methyl salicylate, methyl anthranilate, benzyl acetate, hedione, phenyl ethyl alcohol... these are all middle notes. So what do you expect from a fragrance built almost entirely on middle note molecules? It’s not gonna last more than an hour or two on skin, because it isn’t a base-heavy scent. The entire personality of this fragrance lives in the top and heart, not the base. Unfortunately, there is no magical, unscented ingredient that boosts performance, and longevity and projection have absolutely nothing to do with how "high quality" a perfume is. If you're trying to create the smell of a frangipani flower wearing little makeup, it's literally impossible to boost the performance without adding heavy base notes, which will completely change the scent. Not even increasing the concentration is enough. So accept it for what it is: a beautifully constructed frangipani accord made wearable.

This is frangipani in all its glory. Bright, creamy, salty, and tropical! I absolutely LOVE the addition of lemon in here as well. It really does create this massive burst of brightness and joy. The jasmine is definitely very pronounced in the dry-down, but the ylang ylang is certainly still there in the background, which really helps solidify the yellow floral creaminess of this fragrance. I could swear they added a salt note in this, as there is a saltiness throughout the entire olfactory experience. Could just be the frangipani though. I think this might be one of the truest interpretations of frangipani yet - PERFECT summer time frag! Totally safe blind buy if you like yellow florals! Also, I can't believe how long this has lasted on my skin. I wasn't expecting much from a Jo Malone perfume. But we're at almost 3 hours already and this is STILL going strong. Rating: 9/10

This has practically no sillage or longevity, but the scent is really beautiful. I love the smell I just wish it was less expensive, or lasted longer. If you have a nose for fragrances and you know what sandalwood and jasmine smell like, that's this scent. There are more subtle complexities to it, but if you can imagine those notes together and they seem appealing, I think this is a safe "blind buy". It doesn't really smell like frangipani/ plumeria flower to me. If you live someplace where they can grow, you probably know what they smell like in the summer. Very juicy, heavy, sweet but strong flowers, especially in the heat. If you're willing to compromise the sweeter end of the actual flower for more of a white floral, you'll like this.

I have traveled to Hawaii in the past and found myself entranced by the lingering scent of frangipani in the warm tropical air. Recently, I was gifted a bottle of this fragrance and was somewhat disappointed. It's a neater, cleaner version of an actual frangipani blossom, less juicy, more airy; less heady, more refined. There's also an underlying watery synthetic note that isn't listed, which I enjoy, but not as much when it's trying to mask its manufactured nature. I expected sunlight and waterfalls, but instead was presented with air conditioning and spa water- which I do still enjoy. Pair with: white bathrobes, indoor water features, marble archways, wet hair with too much conditioner in it.

I got this perfume for my wife. They love frangipani. This is really nice and just up their ally. It’s giving clean girl aesthetic, sophistication, a touch of tropical paradise that adds a flair of mystery but in a light, airy way. This perfume has a light-moderate sillage and projection and not much of a longevity. If you want a perfume that is in the background and just lightly exudes off of your skin this is it.

I was very happy to see Jo Malone re-releaded Frangipani Flower. This is the same exact formula as the one in the yellow bottle from several years ago. This doesn't have any vanilla or amber like so many other solar florals and designer frangipani perfume. I find it very different from Armani Sun di Gioia, which was sweeter, warmer and vanillic.

I’ve never bought a Jo Malone fragrance until I came across this one in Sephora. I’ve been on the hunt for tropical vacation perfumes and THIS is it for me!! Such a gorgeous creamy floral. This is the smell that transports me back to Hawaii! <3

Is this a gorgeous white floral fragrance I want to bathe in? Yes. Does it disappear before the atomizer even finishes a single spray? Also yes.

I bought this on a blind buy, because I wanted something to remind me of my summers in Hawaii. I loved plumeria and pikake, and was crazy about the lotions sold at the Hawaiian Walmart and ABC stores. But unfortunately, while this is a nice perfume, Frangipani Flower doesn’t remind me of my childhood in Hawaii enough. From this fragrance, at first, I get mostly the scent of gardenia and the tiniest bit of plumeria but only if I really concentrate. Not really heavy on the lemon, either. The first notes are kind of “green” and “sweet” to me. I guess that’s the jasmine, but my childhood home had jasmine in front, and this scent does not remind me of that. All these scents that should take me back to my childhood, but I’m just not getting a realistic sense of anything, rather, a conglomeration of vague florals. It kind of smells like sunscreen, which isn’t bad, but I’m worried that it will be overpowering when I do wear it with sunscreen in the summer. Middle notes I’m almost getting tangerine and ginger. Final notes are creamy, that must be the sandalwood. I almost imagine coconut milk. This part is very good and comforting. But it quickly disappears almost entirely. Silage and longevity are rather poor, making it fine for the office. As the day goes on I can smell it at random intervals. It’s pleasant, not amazing, and not nostalgic like I wanted. I really wanted a strong plumeria scent, like the discontinued Roxy Roxy perfume. I wanted something to remind me of my travels in Hawaii. But I don’t think this is quite enough like it. It actually smells similar to Calvin Klein One Summer 2019, which I enjoy, but is rather synthetic. Sadly, I really don’t pick up on the plumeria. Overall, it’s not a bad perfume, it’s just not what I was necessarily hoping for. I’m sure I’ll use it up quickly, but I probably won’t repurchase.

I dislike white florals. I can sniff them out in fragrances like a hound dog. Oof! Despite my strong aversion, I'm shocked at my reaction to this one. It's a traditional white floral and incredibly photorealistic. It feels like an ode to nature; I appreciate that. It is not loud, nor does it overwhelm my senses. For that reason, I find this wearable. While I won't invest in a bottle, I feel like people who love white florals would love this. As an aside, this reminds me of fragrances that I smelled on elegant women in the 80s, but without it feeling old fashioned or grandma-ish. Just elegant and put together.

we have a frangipani tree at our college. i like to pick the fallen frangipani flowers up and smell them because they smell so nice. that's why i was so excited to smell this fragrance, hoping it would smell similar to a real frangipani flower. this doesn't exactly smell like the flower, but i still think it's a very good summer fragrance. it's fresh and zesty in the opening then it dries down to a floral but kind of soapy scent. surprisingly, this lasts longer on my skin than any other jo malone fragrances.

Had to super spray on the card. It's good but citrus leaning. Lasts and projects. Lemon and Ylang stand out the most but gently. It's like a sweet aquatic waxy lemony smell. Hard to gauge the amount of Frangipani because it's so subtle. Jasmine isn't listed on the site. Not bitter but juicy tangy. Kinda reminds me of Philosophy Amazing Grace but a lemon meringue. Like an after shower clean spray.

Beautiful fragrance that reminds me of a beautiful orchid. However it is very light so you need to use quite a bit making it expensive. I bought myself a dupe from Oil Perfumery and it seems to last much longer. However, I long for more jasmine note in this perfume.

I have a sample of this fragrance. I like it, but it's not a love. To me it smells like an expensive body lotion, pretty and soothing, beautiful and elegant florals, but the scent is pretty linear. I don't think I will purchase a full bottle for the price.

This is probably my favorite plumeria scent! It smells really natural. It's definitely not as strong as the real flower, but I personally like that so it's not too heavy for summer.

I was reaching for this sample all spring. It’s warm and bright, like a flowering orchard on a sunny day.

Smells basically just like ormonde jayne frangipani except with lemon instead of linden blossom/lime. OJ is more worth your money because it vastly out performs so you wouldn't have to apply as much or as often with that one. This one however is much easier to find cheap in the resale market so is great if a larger concern is budget. Tbh though, both are kinda boring to me and lack personality. Jm frangipani flower is a light, fresh, airy citrus frangipani that doesn't really smell like frangipani. It's giving shower fresh or light springy room spray. This would be nice if what you're seeking is an unfussy, clean, fresh summer fragrance to refresh with and cool down in the heat. I do not see this being too heavy in probably any heat but I live in the Midwest US so take that with a grain of salt lol.

I was so eager to try Jo Malone's Frangipani fragrance as I've never found one so far that really smells like the flowers of the plumeria. Unfortunately, whatever floralcy in my 5 ml sample is so weak that I'd almost not call this a floral scent. It's not unpleasant, but I was hoping I'd be struck with a truly plumeria-like fragrance. Now that three hours have gone by, I smell it a bit more but the first couple of hours I only smelled a faint citrus note. This just needs to be much stronger. As it is now, it's faintly and pleasantly floral, but I wouldn't be able to say which flower I'm smelling.

“Salty,” “soapy,” and “honeysuckle” were the three words I wrote down .. but to be fair, it’s more like half honeysuckle, half frangipani. It’s like you’ve spent a whole day at the beach, and your skin is scented by the salty sea water and whatever small bit of sunscreen that remains. You go back to your hotel and shower with a frangipani soap (heavy on both the floral and soap notes), and then take a quick evening stroll before your beachside dinner. Not great longevity, but good presence while it lasts. Not for me, but I can appreciate the soapy take on the beachy floral trend.

Very disappointed. The fragrance is lovely but there is absolutely no sillage or longevity. It almost reminds me of B&BW or Victoria Secret body mist or something.

I don't get any frangipani here - not the sticky Hawaiian or the airy Balinese... just cucumber, green bell pepper, and a powdery base. It gives me a migraine which is surprising because it fades incredibly fast. If you want true frangipani, keep looking - if you want a 'grown up' B&BW Cucumber Melon, this could be a nice start.

wtf this smelled amazing in Sephora. Like real plumeria/frangipani. I bought a bottle and I don’t get any frangipani at all; it just smells like a generic, cheap, “tropical” fragrance.

At the first spray it gives straight restroom air freshener but a couple of minutes later it starts to smell sort of green and citrusy very refreshing but It’s a pass for me

Very lemon and salt heavy, smells like a men’s cologne on my skin.

This perfume is sunshine in a bottle. It opens with a bright lemon (not cleaner or bitter or syrupy) just a perfectly ripe lemon with a hint of jasmine and then the plumeria wafts in and out like a soft breeze. It is airy, transparent, and uplifting, slightly sweet from the flowers but nothing cloying or headache inducing. It doesn't last of course but there are occasions for a perfume like this, such as a hot summer day or a situation where perfumes need to be polite and restrained. I highly recommend this for those who find white flowers too indolic or suffocating. This is like the clean girl answer to that, easy and breezy. It is pretty and elegant without being ostentatious.

I’ve been searching for a strong frangipani scent ever since I visited Hawaii. 10 years have gone by and with my 4th purchase I finally found a frangipani forward fragrance! It’s very linear which matches with the number of ingredients. I get strong frangipani and lemon up front which settles into a combination of all 4 ingredients. Very tropical without smelling like chemicals and does not come off as soapy or Pledge-like. For those who wear Chanel’s Beige this is a much stronger frangipani which is what I wanted. I found Beige to be...beige. So happy - I now have visions of Hawaii in my mind while wearing this.

When I visited St Thomas in late August Hurricane Erin passed just by us causing heavy winds. Everytime I would go at the balcony of my hotel there was always a nice scent I always wondered what it was! There was actually a small Frangipani tree by our room and the wind was causing the flowers to fell! I lovedd their scent and when I smelled this perfume it sent me back to the windy days of the island. It smells exactly like the flower. It was an imidiate buy for me!

This is so pretty. It’s a scent that I would want to wear for a very specific special occasion. Not an every day scent for me. To my nose it is a sweet realistic very, very beautiful flower. It reminds me of wedding flowers. Just something really special. I wouldn’t mind having a larger size of this but again, I’m not sure when I’d want to wear it.

Explicit replica of Armani "Sun Di Gioia" launched 5 years earlier (better performance and less expensive). Without a doubt or ambiguity. Jo Malone is shameless.

Can someone tell if this is better than Beige from Chanel? Because I find Beige is a very special fragrance, tender, fresh, bright, and rich.
