Leather & Artemisia

Now if they named this perfume "Champagne & Green Suede" it would've certainly described Leather & Artemisia better. Leather & Artemisia opened with a very tingly, green GRAPE note that is as realistic as it can get. I could almost taste the green peel when I sniffed it. A quick search on Wikipedia revealed: "Traditional absinthes were redistilled from a white grape spirit (or eau de vie)". No wonder this stuff smells like champagne. Combined with the orris note the first impression what I got was a green, milky iris. How cool is that! As time goes on this scent started to take on a woody body from the papyrus with some sweetness (I swear there's a hidden vanilla note), and then powder. Eventually it turns into a slightly sweet suede that is less memorable than the top and mid stage, however still pleasant. I would describe the texture of the base more like a "liquid foundation" as opposed to the "face powder" powderiness found in other perfumes. I get a good 12 hours from 1 spray on my hair. On skin though it lasts about 6. Leather & Artemisia is probably the only Jo Malone that develops through wearing, and I really like perfumes that change over time. I want 2 bottles!! Edit: got my bottle today and the store is already running low on this one. Bystanders get on board!

I have been so looking forward to this; I first sampled it on a trip to the UK in March and it was my favourite of the collection. Leather and Artemisia smells distinctively British: dry, spicy, grown-up. Being the end of my holiday, I was running out of money and I could not afford it; unfortunately, when I was back home in Germany I could not find it anywhere; at the shops they said it was a limited edition, they had stopped selling it, etc... I put it on my Christmas list and my husband bought it on the Jo Malone website; it has just arrived in a beautiful cream and black box with a little complimentary bottle of Lime and Basil. I am wearing it now. It smells chic, warm, spicy; like sitting on a leather sofa in the library of an English mansion, wearing a long sequined dress, the French doors opened to let in the balmy scents of a warm night. Very romantic and sophisticated. A new favourite.

It's a beautiful, gentle, soothing, slightly old-schoolish, velvety/suede (far from leather) scent. Very feminine. For some reason reminds me of how my teachers' old piano smelled, when I was a kid. Gets sweeter after a while. Such a lovely, comforting close to skin scent, I'll probably use it most at home and right before bed. It'll be beautiful at work, too, but maybe it'd lack in that "can-do" aura department I find appropriate at work, which for example Chanel's Sycomore and Lutens's Daim Blond excel at.

I had thought Tobacco and Mandarin was my favorite from this set, but Leather & Artemisia has it beat. It's a beautiful suede scent with green and slight licorice notes. It's wonderful. Light, office-appropriate, and beautiful. I got a compliment on this today (March 14, 2017) from a co-worker. This was five hours after applying, so I must be getting at least that longevity from it. Update: Another compliment on 05/05/2017. Ran out of my little 30ml bottle on 05/08/2017.

Smells like warm, soft, delicate, well-blended high quality aromatic spice tea in colder weather. Not the overpowering, in your face kind of spice tea. Very lovely, one of my favorites compared to the normal series which I find just alright. Slightly sweeter and has a hint of freshness in the warmer weather. Personally prefer it in colder weather. Moderate sillage and longevity, much better than the normal series. Could still smell on clothes 1-2 days later.

Opens green like the stems of a beautiful bouquet of flowers with a light tinge of licorice. Within 30 minutes, these notes dissipate and are replaced with a lightly powdery, slightly sweet suede. It's lovely, but like many Jo Malones the scent is gone within a few hours and is incredibly light. Good for a daily fragrance and safe for all situations. Update: I purchased this before it went out of production. There's something a bit special about this one.

Simply love at first sniff. Fell in love even more because it smells just like one of my favorite candles, Noisetier from Diptyque. I wish this came in 100ml bottles!

This was an interesting offering from Jo Malone, giving a little more comfort and sweetness than a lot of their more recent main-line releases, which have leaned into the clean and fruity category more often than not. When I smelled this fragrance, all I could think was that it smelled like a violet wearing suede boots and stumbling around in a haze, drunk on absinthe. Leather & Artemisia definitely had the feeling of a purple floral, but it was buried with an intriguing combination of notes, from the cloying green of artemisia - which to be fair is not an infrequent friend to violet and heliotrope - to the bite of boozy anise and then the warm rasp of a suede-like leather. A prevailing green streak lifted this scent, as I did find it to have a definite cosy sweetness, and it had that nice hint of booziness that didn't weigh it down, and made me think of the pleasant freshness of gin. A different option for sweater weather, bringing to mind white cashmere, a herbal tea and a good old book, whose scent rises to meet you as you read.

My absolute favorite from the collection, and I am not a fan of leather. I did not think I would enjoy this, but it surprised me. This one is smooth, and kind of sweet. Hard to describe, but definitely try it! I'm glad that I got to spray these on my skin instead of doing a blind-buy; because the one I would have ordered, I wouldn't have enjoyed. And, I would have completely overlooked this one. Anyway, try them all. This collection is very unique, and many of the notes aren't what they actually smell like.

Another beauty from the Bloomsbury set. The green-herbaceous openning notes are stunning. I would like to ''drink'' this perfume. It's probably due to the absinthe note... Then it's soften by the orris and velvety soft leather final note. This perfume is really evokative of a moment at the Charleston's Farm House: reading leather jacket book and drinking a glass of absinthe.

Tested this today at Nordstrom. On the test strip it smelled like a beautiful, soft, slightly woody leather, but unfortunately on my skin that disappeared after just seconds and turned into a sugary sweet suede. It was still very nice, just not how I wanted it to smell. And as is the case with so many Jo Malone fragrances, the performance was pretty disappointing.

I have absolutely fallen in love with this new fragrance from Jo Malone. Wild Blue bells was my favorite but not anymore. I have never smelled anything as good as this one! I only wish it lasted longer. I really hope Jo Malone decides to make it one of the regular fragrances. I would hate to see this one be discontinued!

Glorious opening - fresh, green and floral. Starts getting spicy in its mid-stages. Dries down powdery, sweet and unbearably spicy. Dry down reminds me of Marc Jacobs Decadence, which I own but don't wear. Won'the be buying this.

Not smelling any leather here. In fact, not smelling much of anything after the initial aromatic green mini-burst at the start. Boring and barely-there.

A True Animalic Spicy Leather. I get a little bit of a dried grass smell & some licorice. Different than anything I have ever smelled from JM. YES!!
