London Rain Wisteria & Violet

I just received my samples of the London rain collection, and now I must have them all! To me they are like an heirloom treasure that I want to store in a special keepsake box somewhere in my boudoir vanity. These perfumes aren't big complex heavy types with a lot of faucets, but really transport you to a special place. They are all very lovely, beautifully conspired, simple. Wisteria & Violets wasn't my favorite right at the beginning, but pulled me in after time. I feel like I am in a big refurbished Victorian B&B by the sea. The room is all white, with delicate purple violets on the walls and furnishings, and old intricate ivory lace curtains on the windows. There is a steady downpour, that I just woke up to and realize it is just after dawn. As I am sitting by the opened window smelling the fresh clean cool wet air with wafts of wisteria that are hanging from the archway leading up to the door and the tiny delicate violets that have grown through the cracks of the aging cement walk. I can smell the dewy wet blossoms as if I just picked a handful and put them right up to my nose. A little later I notice the rain has stopped and the breeze has carried with it the scent of the salty sea with those lovely purple flowers. It was such a lovely dream while it lasted, so lovely and soft. I must have this fragrance, old-fashioned and simple, it reminds me of my Grandmother and all her beautiful flowers, and her perfectly starched delicate lace doilies, freshly laundered. If you love simple, non-complex scents, you will love these. For me, it is a breath of fresh air. Again, after another wearing of my sample, I am reminded of delicate Victorian things...old crocheted gloves, delicate lace fans, and tiny delicate purple violets, the kind you find on heirloom fine china teacups. So lovely... So Victorian!

This was a blind buy for my collection and I found it for very cheap and I love purple flowers. I loved wisteria&lavender so I had to have this. I am still trying to decide how to describe it, it smells both very original and strangely familiar and evokes different sensations each time i smell it--and to my surprise it smells different according to where i spray it. I did not expect this perfume to be that complex. I get a slight, powdery, bubblegum scent that I think is from the violet. It is very soft and nostalgic. The opening is slightly citrus and mostly fresh and I even detect a tiny bit of lavender but that might just be my bias, but the drydown is very on point: not citrus, not too floral, not too synthetic, very pleasant. Can be combined with Guerlain Insolence eau de parfum or JML Wisteria lavender or JML Blackberry and Bay and dare I say Chanel no 19 edt? I think this was a win. Also, I don't find it any similar to wild bluebell. To me wild bluebell overdid the persimmon and that one reminded me of clinique happy heart (i.e. it wasnt unique) but this perfume has more quality to it.

I'm surprised to read the reviews saying wisteria and violet is a unfriendly fragrance to them, not to denounce anyone's opinion, it's just when I smelt it I had a mini happiness explosion because to me it smelt just like violet candy. The floral accord to me in here is very sweet and wet. I suppose it's a bit chilly, like torrential rains pouring down a bunch of wisteria. And I am walking by in a rain coat with my hands warm in my pocket munching on violet candies walking by in the street. Of course as a patchouli lover I appreciate the hint of patchouli, it made it feel more me. It comes off smelling like a comfy hint of leafy dirt. Maybe that's why when I smell the fragrance it seems comfortable and I am the one inside the rain coat and not outside of it. If that makes any sense.

Got it! Love it! End of story! I have a few of JM perfumes & I've been disappointed one & that was with lime & basil. It was too masculine smelling for my taste, but the wisteria & violet is awesome. It has the right combination of fragrances. I love the Patchouli they comes out in the very end keeping the fragrance alive & interesting.

It smelled at first like scented tissue. Fortunately, this only lasts 10-15 minutes, then the cool fresh watery notes come through to hold up the florals. This is a lovely fragrance, especially in summer when we're yearning for cool weather and a drop of rain.

The water lily opening was beautiful albeit short. I got some plum vibes all along the whole length of the longevity. To me this is like walking under a wisteria tunnel, sipping umeshu. Love it!

I agree this could use a bit of warmth. Clove maybe? It is very similar to Wild Bluebell JM to me. It was the fragrance from the London Rain line I was most excited to try but I was just underwhelmed and Wild Bluebell kind of already fit this watery-floral genre for me. It's a lovely fragrance and it delivers on wisteria and violet I was just looking for a little something extra to jump out at me. Could be great for layering!

I love Wisteria however this just lacks the tiny bit of warmth that would make it a truer wisteria scent. Of course this is because it is part of the rain series and supposed to me more cold.. more fresh.. more damp.. and it is. Its fresh, lightly floral and watery. Its cold but feminine. Its very unique. I bought all 4 scents. None are my usual kind of perfume. Currently this is my favourite of the 4. I am enjoying them but all for are like and not love. I would not repurchase after I enjoy these.. which is conveniant as you cant as they are limited edition.

This is a very lovely fragrance, well crafted. It smells fresh like a garden without smelling like a bunch of uprooted stems strewn on a table like a couple of Jo Malones I have tried. The opening is a bit sharp, wet with the violet and patchouli, and the lily reminding me of the scent of wet pavement. Then the wisteria and some lovely woody notes come in and join with the patch and violet into a soft beautiful scent that still maintains a bit of the sharpness of a living garden. As others have said, this scent seems to evoke a cool feeling, like a slightly chilly day after a rain. I do not find it dry but it does have that modern chypre quality with the patchouli and the woody notes giving it a bit of a retro vibe. This is not a sweet cozy fragrance at all. It maintains a bit of detachment. Wisteria & Violet is a beauty seen from a distance, to be appreciated but not given to over familiarity.

As another reviewer said: if you like Jo Malone's Wild Bluebell, this is very similar. [Wild Bluebell is one of the few Jo Malone fragrances I *don't* like.] Figured I'd love this--I love violet. Violet fragrances, violet candy. And I love Jo Malone, usually. My initial impression of this one was...grape juice. It is SWEET, and a lot fruitier than I like [but I *strongly* dislike like swollen, nectary-fruity smells and am a bit sensitive to them, so another person might not notice the same thing]. To me, the sweet is not powdery or fresh, but sticky. Eugh. It *does* dry down after a while to more floral than fruity, at a level of sweet that I think smells rather nice. Not amazing, especially compared to some of Jo Malone's other florals, but nice--if not for that juicy undertone, I'd quite like it.

This sounds simply gorgeous with both melancholy violets & rainy waterlily, coupled with grounded patchouli and airy wisteria.

These aren't in my neck of the woods, and probably for the better since they're so pricey. But I know I'd love THIS ONE! :-)
