Osmanthus Blossom (2017)

I was so pumped when I found out that Jo Malone has come up with a fragrance that is dedicated to osmanthus- one of the main notes in my favourite perfumes of all time (NRFH EDT) and I absolutely adore the smell of the actual osmanthus flowers. So I just had to try this one out. However, when I finally got a 30ml bottle of this, I was beyond disappointed- where is the osmanthus? My nose couldn't detect a single trail of it in this bottle! Deemed it as a fail blind buy, I immediately listed my bottle up for sale online and while waiting for someone to adopt it I just let it sit on my vanity table Fast forward to few months later and there's this one morning I just decided to spray it on before going to class. I wasn't hoping for anything other than just to achieve a deodorizing effect but to my surprise, I ended up really enjoying wearing it throughout the whole day! Here's what my nose got before reading the notes: it opens up with a natural sweetness in the initial spray which resembles a fresh fruit. After about 10 minutes, it dries down to a soft and comforting base that just smells fresh while the sweetness still retains, it is more muted and toned down. Usually I avoid fruity fragrances because most of the fruity perfumes I've tried just do not agree with either my skin chemistry or my personal style. But Jo Malone Osmanthus Blossom is very well blended- it does not come off to you like a "hey I'm a fruit blast/ fruit candy"- a juvenile kind of scent, the peach note here smells very natural and high quality and when combined with the petitgrain, it stands for sophistication. While you wouldn't link Osmanthus Blossom to an "office scent", it is definitely suitable for formal settings and yet at the same time you can wear this to run errands cause it just makes you smell soooo good This perfume definitely grew on me and after a few tries with more observation, I now wear it on a regular basis :) Performance wise, it does last quite awhile for a JM perfume. On me, it has a moderate sillage for about 2 hours after I first spray it, then its projection weakens gradually but the scent still stays on my skin for the entire day- just less projected. Another good thing about this fragrance is that it isn't as popular as other JM fragrances and you probably won't ever bump into another person wearing Osmanthus Blossom so you're safe to wear this if you hate wearing something that's super common ;) My suggestion is: do put your osmanthus expectation aside and give this one a try if you can still find it

There is no realistic Osmanthus note... maybe because in real one it’s very challenging and a bit screechy, at the same time pungent and weirdly attractive. This is somewhat simple smell, but doesn’t have complexity of the real flower.

I received this in the mail today and am sending it back. I like the initial opening citrus notes, but they faded very quickly into a strong floral somewhat generic fragrance. I love the Sweet Olive blossom fragrance which comes from my Osmanthus fragrans tree in my yard, but this isn't even close to that fragrance. Disappointing.

The construction of the notes building really inspired me, double p, my favourite eo is petitgrain, with the sweetness of the peach, should balance! Then the double o, both of my love! Then the cashmere wood would really special it up!

It smells sour on my skin. Guess it doesn't go along with my chemistry!

Does not smell like Osmanthus at all.
