Osmanthus Blossom

Osmanthus Blossom felt like the perfect companion to my morning, almost as if it had been waiting for this exact Florida moment. We’ve just come out of a brutal cold snap, and when I stepped outside to feed the horses, the air was warm again—soft, fresh, and full of relief. I wanted a fragrance that could meet that happiness, that little spark of joy in the shift of weather. I had just received the Blossom Trio, so I reached for Osmanthus—and yes. It was exactly the mood I needed. The opening is bright and slightly floral, with a little sharpness that reads as pure uplift rather than edge. The citrus sparkles in a way that feels sunlit and energetic, almost effervescent. As it settles, it gives me a touch of nostalgic Issey Miyake—that clean, bright, slightly spicy tartness wrapped in a soft floral veil. The whole composition feels happy, vibrant, and energizing, like a burst of optimism in a bottle. It matched the warm air, the horses breathing in the morning light, and the sense of renewal after days of cold. Osmanthus Blossom is exactly the kind of scent that turns a simple moment into something quietly joyful.

I'm surprised no one has remarked on the leather note, which is unlisted here but listed on Jo Malone's website and is quite evident to my nose. It's really lovely and luxurious, and it gives me the same privileged satisfaction one feels when sitting in a brand new car. The woody notes leave a cool, watery impression, not dry like cedar, and I think they help temper the sweetness that sometimes accompanies osmanthus. Overall, a fresh, cool, feminine floral with a richness not usually found in Jo Malone's line. Osmanthus Blossom proved substantially more long-lasting than many other Jo Malone fragrances. I haven't tried many other osmanthus fragrances, so I'm not sure how this one stands up in comparison, but it's at least worth trying on.

In my opinion the notion "spring in a bottle" is used way too often for perfumes, but this time it actually fits. "spring/summer in a bottle" describes this fragrance perfectly. I don't get the citru that much but what I get is the flowers; very pretty natural smelling flowers, surrounded by some woodsy notes. When I smell it I imagine myself running through meadows full of flowers in a summer dress, the sun shining bright and birds singing. It's just a drop dead beautiful scent, that lifts your spirits up and makes you happy :) I also think it is similar to discontinued Miss Dior Chérie L'eau... LOVE :)

citrusy without a trace of fruitiness or sweetness. if you typically dislike citrus, dont bother, it will come across as soapy for you. i like osmanthus and it is truly one dimensional in this perfume, at least on my skin. bubbly and crisp and super super fresh without being watery.

LOVE this!!!!!!!! Love this!!!!!!! Love it!!!! Pretty, pretty floral. Great by itself and in combo with others. Of course you layer with other Jo Malones, but today I added it to Lancomes Miracle and it adds a floral punch I'm enjoying!!!

Bought this from London ten years ago, my choice while watching King Charles III coronation today. :) Happy and bright scent, light and sophisticated.

petitgrain is marvelous with a touch of citrus. Can't stop smelling it! Makes me feel so fresh and optimistic. Highly recommend

Osmanthus Blossom is a boldly green citrus with water/flower notes. I would rename it Petitgrain Blossom. The reps at my Jo Malone boutique were very generous to give me a big fat sample when I stopped in to say hello. Osmanthus Blossom opens with sweet and tart, crisp juicy lychee-ish, fruity "water" notes, accompanied by bright, ambiguously green citrus medley (petitgrain with sugar-dipped lime wedges and bergamot oil...maybe even a tea note?).. The dry down loses some of the sparkle and tang of the opening and contains mostly mild, sunny-sweet powder and green notes which again lean more toward the lotus, petitgrain-citrus direction, than any other. There is also a hint of light, ambiguous woods with the water and powder (a high-quality aquatic musk) toward the very end. I feel that this is an easy composition, green, sweet, springy, and not representative of anything realistic. It is an impressionistic fragrance, but my impression of the actual osmanthus bush/tree (one of my all time favorites) is not similar to this fragrance. I don't usually get hung up on names and review for what I smell, not for what I hope, but I couldn't help but want a true osmanthus scent from JM, since her Red Roses and Orange Blossom hit the nail on the head with such precision. I think OB is about as compelling as the new Jasmin & Bergamote by L'Occitane. Longevity and projection are average. I won't be owning this, but I'm not in the market for a green citrus floral. OB is a safe bet for someone who wants to smell fresh, feminine, and ready for spring with open arms, but isn't really sure what she wants in a fragrance, and abhors the idea of offending anyone around her. Ain't nothin' wrong with that. Personally, I would be eager to see Charna Ethier of Providence Perfume Co. attempt an osmanthus soliflore in the same vein as her Hindu Honeysuckle (also a petitgrain-rich composition). I feel that the osmanthus blossom must be nearly impossible to replicate, and if anything can approximate it, the palette of natural perfumery may have the upper hand.

This is a watery soft floral. I imagine dewey water lilies. It's nice and sits close to the skin. The petitgrain is definitely there, and I pick up on the delicate osmanthus blossom. This is a nice fragrance, but there is something very slightly musty to it when I sniff it on my skin. Could it be the petitgrain or the cashmere wood? Although, I'm not sure what cashmere wood smells like. This is a light skin scent that would go well casually throughout the year. It's a clean, light, scent in a dewey way (like a super mild Byredo La Tulipe). This doesn't really amaze me, but it is pleasant.

I don't understand why this has gotten so many mediocre reviews... Granted this is a very watery, white water lily-esque scent... But that's the concept... Very clean, crisp floral with a wet, raindrop vibe. I don't really sense the woody note too much, so I would think this is more of a green and white floral. Almost reminiscent of EA Sunflowers or YR Ming Shu or perhaps a combination of both. I think lush and damp green gardens, littered with deep white flowers on a cool spring day....

Tried it at Nordstrom yesterday.. :) gotta say It's a lovely perfume with not too sweet floral notes.. When you first spray it, you will get clean, little bit green floral scent... After sometime it settles to a nice powdery scent on my skin... I like the fact it's a floral,powdery scent without being too sweet.. it lasted for 5-6 hours on my skin.. it's a great choice for spring...!!!

Received this as a Mother's day gift from my son. I've always been curious about osmanthus. Surprisingly, it smells so much Yves Rocher agrumes en fleurs that I've been using for years. More citrusy than peachy. And just like it, the longevity is a bit poor. On me it lasts about an hour, than I can't smell it anymore.

This perfume is back in production and currently selling at Nordstrom in the USA! (as of March 2015) If you wanted to try it, or loved it and bemoaned its "retirement", now is your chance to buy it. It is only selling in the larger bottle, but it is a pretty and colorful edition.

I loved this when I purchased it in 2017 in New York, as I was fleeing the city for the warmer shores of California. It seemed to perfectly suit the humid NY summer, bringing a breath of fresh osmanthus-scented air to the overcrowded subways. I sprayed liberally right before I left. I recently was clearing out old suitcases and found this bottle rattling around inside, clearly a victim of my short attention span, and sprayed it, ready to be returned to my younger self. Instead, after a wonderful citrus blast of notes announcing its arrival, the osmanthus blossom settled into a sour-plum type of dry down, almost leathery and smoky in its realism. It smelled, almost disturbingly, like a Chinese dried goods store that I’ve frequented many times with my parents after grocery shopping. Maybe in NY, this scent was carefree, but in CA, it’s become loaded with strange childhood memories. It could be a metaphor. For me, it’s just a perfume I feel ambivalent about now. I’ll tuck it away for a bit, see how I feel when I’m just a little older.

I don't know whether my sample was the original or re-issued version. I could smell the petitgrain, and the woods came out in the dry down. No osmanthus, though. Sadly most western perfumers are not familiar with osmanthus, and their interpretation of that magical flower usually amounts to no more than a weak and perfumy fruity accord. I will keep looking.

I have been searching for a good osmanthus scent for a while. Thus Jo Malone’s Osmanthus Blossom is of course in my ‘Must test’ list. My sample has arrived today, upon my first sprit, I have to say, I am quite disappointed. After several more testing. My disappointment simply escalated. However, I was set to find a real osmanthus scent (apricot-peachy sweet, a bit powdery), and I hate aquatic-ish perfume. So... my opinion is biased in that sense. The perfume starts with a burst of rather citrusy notes (mainly towards the grapefruit/lemon end), the vaguely osmanthus flower smell is there, but it is so watered and shyly hiding in the background. Gradually, the bright citrusy notes becomes weaker, and a green-ish note comes through. Somehow, the whole composition smells more of osmanthus leaves rather than proper osmanthus blossom. The more I smell this, the more I feel this has a slightly aquatic touch in it, I hate aquatic notes, but I’m glad that the one I can smell is only vaguely present, and under the coverage of the other notes, it’s not too bad. In fact, the slightly aquatic note in this makes the whole scent airer, and makes me think of early cool spring mornings. Towards the end, *sign * Osmanthus Blossom makes me think of a timid, girly floral version of Aqua di Gioria, mixed with Issey Miyaki's L'ead d'Issey, in the end, too much watery notes, too little osmanthus. As most of Jo Malone’s scents disappear rather quickly, Osmanthus Blossom is the same. If you are looking for an authentic, juicy, bold, osmanthus flower, I really don’t think this Jo Malone’s version show that. However, if you don’t like the grande, golden, apricot-peachy slightly powerdey osmanthus smell, but likes the idea of a vague representation of it, and you don’t mind a slight hint of aquatic notes, then give Osmanthus Blossom a go.

I love Keiko Mecheri ‘s Fleurs d’Osmanthus and wanted to try more Osmanthus perfumes . Unfortunately , this is borderlines masculine for me . The predominance of citrus notes from the pettigrain is extremely potent . On first spray , it’s citrus, fruity floral. Towards the dry down it becomes spicy and somewhat leathery . Also , I prefer my fragrances feminine florals and this is nothing outstanding so I’m pleased I only bought a 30ml bottle . Update : gave it away as a X’mas present .

This is a lovely fragrance, on both tester and skin, but it goes from being sweet and floral (in a champagne way) to a dry rice-like smell. With the champagne it is a very ‘bright’ or ‘sharp’ smell with a dry sparkling wine element. I don’t like it personally but I do think it could be a more unique and niche alternative to many of the popular scents on the market.

I do not know if it is me, my chemistry or Jo Malone perfumes in general, but there is this underlying fragrance that they all have that smells absolutely vile to me. It gives me a headache and makes me nauseous. I want so badly to love the line. I just cannot. I have tried Peony and Blush Suede and Osmanthus Blossom, and quite a few others. All dry down to this weird off putting smell that I cannot place. Absolutely hate it. Sorry Jo Malone, but it is an overall no from me.

I just received a call from Holt Renfrew in Canada to say there is a re-release of this scent, along with Plum Blossom and Sakura Cherry Blossom in the Blue Skies and Blossoms release. This is time-limited, so if you are able to find this release, I can definitely recommend this scent. It is sweet, like ripe peaches and white flowers combined. Very wearable in the spring and summer! ETA: the re-release is only 100mL bottles. Why, JM? I prefer smaller sizes so I will pass this time around. Too bad, as this lovely.
