Raspberry Ripple

This is the first time I've ever outright bought a perfume after only testing it once... well technically twice, but still. I first tested it this morning and LOVED it so after doing my errands I went back to try it a second time. After a couple minutes' deliberation I went ahead and bought it. To my nose this does indeed smell like raspberries and ice cream, but NOT raspberry ripple ice cream: vanilla ice cream topped with fresh raspberries rather than swirled with raspberry syrup. And that's what's hooked me--finally a raspberry perfume that's fresh! And not in the shampoo-y way! Not only that, but this is what I like to call an "understated gourmand" (Lush's American Cream is another favourite of mine for this). This isn't one of those heavy hitters that's too cloying for hot weather, not if you use a light hand anyway (I use 2 sprays). It's still a very sweet vanilla but, by nature of being a Jo Malone release, isn't intense. The projection is relatively short lived (projects strongly for about 30 minutes, then recedes to a more intimate scent bubble for the next 2-ish hours, then becomes a skin scent for another 2-ish hours) but the longevity is surprisingly great! By JM standards, anyway. Somewhere in the region of 5-6 hours total but I think for the "full" experience you do need to reapply every 3-4 hours. For me this is one of those rare "any time, any place, any weather" type of scents, which I massively gravitate towards--it annoys me to no end having perfumes on my shelf that I can't use for part of the year! Gotta love a good "dumb reach" you don't have to put any thought behind before wearing it.

🍦🍭💕This is for those who want to smell as close to an ice cream as possible without smelling too literally like food. This feels very much like you're the sweet treat on a summer date. Definitely very tart but I still get creamy notes with this even though there's no vanilla or cream (creamy musk?). It's kind of like when I was surprised to see that my favorite strawberry ice cream flavor from Haagan Dazs doesn't contain any vanilla but I get a subtle vanilla taste. This is very summer-y but I can also see this as being a great date night fragrance due to its intense fruity zesty creaminess that feels absolutely delectable! (๑>؂•̀๑) I think that's the beauty of this fragrance how these notes play off of each other to create this beautiful illusion of a raspberry ripple ice cream. It's sweet and syrupy and has this almost honey-like taste to it. Sillage is pretty damn good I would say for at least the first couple hours and after there a few times afterwards where maybe I caught a whiff of myself randomly–so not sure if the sillage is actually better than I think due to nose blindness. The lasting power on my skin was super! I applied this 9am in the morning and by 6pm there was still a very subtle linger that smelled of creamy florals and speaking of creamy florals– ‧+ ̊❀༉‧+ ̊. The dry down for some reason smells floral to me–like jasmine with the musk which makes this a perfect gourmand for me – as someone who doesn't want to smell like a literal food and needs just a dash of complexity or unpredictability in their fragrance

Okay. I know people are feeling a certain kind of way about the branding, and granted it was misleading. BUT... I bought this on a whim and am obsessed with it. Less "raspberry ice cream dripping down your arm" and more "fresh, tart raspberry being crushed between your fingers, juice staining your fingers red before you wipe it onto your white cotton sundress". It's beautiful. Love her where she's at, instead of wishing she were something else, and you might be impressed. However, If you want more of that ice cream vibe, layer it with Phlur Heavy Cream or Ellis Brooklyn Marshmallows. You'll still get that burst of freshness but it'll add the creamy vanilla dry down the marketing promised. Performance is decent for Jo Malone, and I can still smell it on myself at least five hours later.

Well! Someone said this was just a reformulated version of Redcurrant & Cream... they are correct. This does smell amazing, but if you have one you don’t need the other. They’re super similar. Redcurrant & Cream is more creamy and a bit more jammy. Raspberry Ripple is very juicy sweet berries but lacks a bit of depth. Still amazing though. On my skin they smell identical. On a perfume tester when blind smelling, I can tell them apart since R&C is more edible/creamy and a bit deeper. RR is very light and bright. After smelling the R&C I could almost not smell RR at all. I’d say layering it with something deeper/musky or a vanilla could be really great. Very summer flirty vibes. I’m gonna wear it on a date haha

Do not expect a creamy gourmand! It opens with a fresh tart note! The red currant mixed with raspberry is fresh , vibrant and bright! There is also strawberry that is not listed in the notes here, that settles into a hint of a sweet sorbet like treat! The white musk base gives it an airy texture , it settles on the skin after the superficial shot of tart fruity tanginess! Like all colognes longevity is fleeting, 4 - 4.5 hours. Great for hot weather! Layer this with Wood Sage and Sea Salt for the ultimate summer scent! A conceptual scent that evokes images of childhood at the beach, raspberry sorbet under the sun with the faint hint of sea salt in the air!
