Napoleon

This perfume reminds me of heated pine tears ;o) It's hot aromatic with a great juniper note. I don't smell turkey (lol:)) or anything edible in it. It doesn't have a long trail, but its lasting power is good.

The perfumer said this was going to be "musky" and I couldn't quite understand because I was unable to deduct any possible source...Well, now I know what she meant but it isn't pretty. It's mentholated, green, & cold thanks to the coniferous plants (the pine @krmarich mentioned) & herbs, but it's not fresh, instead heavy, bitter (@Ulysses), and slightly balsamic thanks to the spices & resins, namely myrrh. The combination creates something not dissimilar to an older gentleman's BO unlike any feral or vegetal musk I can name...

I agree with the former comment, that this is very Christmassy. It reminds me of the sort of banquet tables you imagine in old fashioned eras, laden with all sorts of spiced delicacies. There's notes in there that wouldn't be associated with a modern banquet table but they work. I think I would have said it's more Henry VIII than Napoleon though.

I had high expectations for this;I was thinking of finding a good representation of the character,but... it's odd, bitter and does not remember in any way Napoleon. This one is the only perfume by JoAnne Bassett that disappointed me until now. I find it unbalanced and it has little staying power and no sillage at all.

Samples arrived! There is a citrus start, but then the spice kicks in. It almost reminds me of Christmas popourrie (spelled wrong I'm sure). It's very nice for the fall into winter months. The price is pretty steep, so you better love it to begin with. Samples are about four bucks plus shipping. I would sample first.

This is one of the better scents from this line/category. I actually like fir/juniper berries, even though they are so clearly masculine. This makes for a nice waft, and I would think you'd identify it as an herbal fougere. I wouldn't be surprised if this were one of her best sellers.
