XX Artisan Teal

I have tested all the JV Artisan original and it's flankers and nothing sat with me, also I did not see XX Teal in the departmental store I was visiting. Fast forward, I was looking for perfumes with Sea Salt on Fragrantica and I stumbled upon XX Teal. I've always loved aesthetically pleasing bottles and XX Teal looked amazing to me. I've watched fragrance influencers and visited this page a lot prior to purchasing and what I got were mixed feelings: - Don't blind buy this, it's not for everyone - Everyone will like this scent - It's similar to YSL Y, don't buy this if you already have Y (I don't, but I'm familiar with Y's scent) I decided to blind buy it anyway and the moment I unboxed it, sprayed it on my tester strip. I fell in love with it immediately. >This is entirely my own interpretation< (Side note: I have not sprayed it on skin yet) - XX Teal opened with a burst of sweeter Nautica Voyage. - Also opened similarly to YSL Y but I'd say it leaned more towards a sweeter NV. - Couple of hours passed and the middle settled in, and the sweetness was gone. Enter, a fresh linen, almost floral (similar to Lacoste Blanc) sort of scent. - T-08:00 and I held my tester strip to my nose and I smell an oceanic salty scent. I'm not entirely certain if I smell any woodiness, more so on oceanic / aquatic actually. With my current perfume experience and collection, this is the best interpretation I could gather. Where I'm from, it's almost an eternal summer here, so I trust that this scent would sit well with my all year round. Plus, I work in a office environment and frequent the gym. I believe XX Teal sits well with my everyday routine. I got this 8 days after I got Bleu de Chanel, BDC has since been my favorite, I'm sorry BDC but I feel like I'm betraying you and leaning more towards XX Teal, that's how much XX Teal appealed to me.

I know JV fragrances get a lot of grief when it comes to longevity, sometimes this is accurate and sometimes not. However, Artisan Teal XX really lives up to that stereotype. This is a real shame as the fragrance is really beautiful. The lemon and water lily really give this fragrance something special. Anyone who has been around me, not too long after I've applied it, just love this fragrance. It's not quite a linear fragrance as it does ever so slightly shift as it dries down, it becomes slightly more subdued as the base notes take over. The bottle is one of most attractive I've seen from the line and along with the fragrance help the wearer envision a walk on the shoreline. This is in no way a put down, as many similar fresh and aquatic fragrances have longevity problems, but if this lasted longer on skin it would be much easier to promote. Spray it on your clothes if you want this to last even close to four hours. Still, it is well worth a purchase.

I’ve always been a fan of the Varvatos house. For years and years I wanted a bottle of artisan aqua, but I never pulled the trigger. Well, one day while making a few rounds at the macys fragrance section, I come across the JV section. No aqua, but what is this teal? Let’s give this a whirl ....bam! as soon as I hit a sprits on tester, I had to give it a skin test. Bam again, the dry down was even more incredible on me. The scent is just so clean and alive like driving down Malibu with the top down in my mustang. Finally, I have my first bottle of JV!! Unfortunately, for my wallet, my love for teal has turned into a hobby of cologne collecting all together. As my collection grows, It has become apparent that teal simply isn’t versatile. But summer isn’t over, and I still haven’t stopped hitting the beach, so I’ll be getting a lot of use out of my JV until the end of summer.

Picked this up yesterday. As of Most the JV line up.. it's very weak. You can spray like 10x and it be equal to maybe 1x of something like a Chanel or Dior fragrance. Other than that this scent is amazing and very spring and summer time oriented. It's so light and gets a solid 2 hours of projection on me within arms length.. but it sticks around for a good 6 or 7. And by that time it's a very close to the skin scent. Totally worth the Discount prices but Not full retail price. I was dumb and got it Retail lol. Oh well.. I still love it. I can't imagine anyone really saying it is offensive or smells bad. It's mass pleasing for sure. $55 max is a perfect price if you find it anywhere. I think this will be a great spring and summer time scent for me. It will get a lot of use.

This is just a recent addition to my collection and have tried it the last few days. This does not deserve that hate it gets other than its originality. Put simply this is a lighter version of Y edt or Y eau fraiche. If you are a fan of the Y line you'll love Teal. I have all 3 fragrances and they almost indistinguishable from one another unless you are comparing them directly from arm to arm. It doesn't have quite the push or longevity of Y, a strong performer on me, but still is a solid performer and the atomizer pushes out a lot of juice. I will be picking up another bottle especially given the prices on discounters. Great summer fragrance, A super fresh, sweet and airy scent.

This should get a little more credit for the smell. It smells completely different than all the other JV artisan line. It’s a much more modern and youthful scent compared to the other artisans which are classy and more green smelling. This is sweeter, saltier, bluer, and a lot more pleasing to the ladies. This may not break new ground, but it’s a great scent! I think it will replace my Bvlgari aqva line scents this summer since those are difficult to find now. Will edit post with more wear. Edit: doesn’t last at all on skin. Absolutely have to get it on clothes for it to last any length of time, but it still smells awesome. Scent 9/10 Longevity 6/10 Sillage 8/10

Whoa! This is giving me original Nautica vibes from the original teal bottle, back in the mid 90's! Not the current clear bottle with teal liquid, because Nautica is nothing like it used to be... but for those that never smelled the vintage teal colored glass bottle, THIS is why we liked it so much back then and why everyone was so upset with the reformulation! They never should've changed that scent, and this scent being so popular right now, 25 years later, is proof. It's nice to finally get something so similar to that original formula.

Jhon Varvatos Artisan Teal should've benn named tuquoise cause is another blue style fragrance. Dont get me wrong, is quite pleasant, however there are just too many fragrance houses out there going for the same thingvarvatos should switch names with this one and Artisan Blue... which is actually a green fragrance... anyway is a pleasant blue a la YSL Y or Ralph's Club or Albercrombie and Fitch First instinct together or maybe Invictus Legend maybe? Bottom line is if you like that kind of scent go for it.

This is an instant love for me, easily my favorite in the Artisan line, and one I plan to wear a lot this Spring and Summer. It’s in stock at most Macy’s in Southern California as of this review. It’s basically a citrus with a candy vibe, but done so well. I don’t smell much in the way of the sea salt note listed. Definitely worth trying out for fans of summer fragrances 🌊🍋🍭☀️

When I first smelled this I was instantly reminded of sauvage but now I realized it was more ysl edp. The scent is lovely and fresh. Almost like a elegant shampoo. The bottle is a beautiful design, with the teal color making a nice pop. Overall I would say this should be at least a 4.00 on here, does not disappoint, not even in projection or longevity. 9/10 very nicely done

I absolutely love this one at first sniff. A green aquatic summer scent, smells high class and balanced. Reminds me of: coolwater light blue intense for women Ysl y live Ysl Ultime Hawas But it is it’s own scent for sure. If I made my own fragrance for summer this is basically what I would go for but with slightly more oumph. Close to 10/10 opening.

Don’t sleep on this juice. It’s a great hot day summer wear. Nice and fresh from the start and it lasted on my skin well over 6 hours. I reapplied after work and still smelled it on my skin in the morning. It’s a really easy wear. Super safe. Just don’t pay retail. Wtf Macys. $50 for a big bottle is where it should be.

JV has some of the most gorgeous smelling scents out there, most aren't power house performers which is ok as not everything can be nuclear, however this has some stay power, its a fairly strong formula imo. Absolutely gorgeous scent, this is summer in a bottle to me...better than I expected it to be!

Versatile beast! This one reminds me a lot of JV Artisan Blue, the scent appears to be simple but not quite so. Very aquatic, salty, vacation type! Just my go-to! I love it! Longevity is great for an EDT and the projection is amazing! Now i know what Driftwood smell like, very relaxing!

This is the shit man. This combines so many aspects that I love - marine, salty, musky, aquatic, fresh, woody, citrus - it’s pretty close to perfect in my books. Not for everyone and probably still a little sweet for some, but this is the exact vibe I go for with a fragrance.

This is genuinely one of the greatest fragrances I have in my collection. People say it smells like YSL Y, and I don't agree. I have both, and this one is better. Everywhere that YSL Y fails, Artisan Teal succeeds. It's fresh, aquatic, sexy, and deep. 10/10 would recommend.

This is a nice, uncomplicated and reasonably priced spring and summer frag. Good for daily or office wear. Light, crisp and clean 👍 Maybe you’ll find the scent profile a little common but just to smell simply fresh and clean, this is all you need. 8/10 🙌

This is a better, saltier, smoother version of Y Fraiche by YSL. I’d say it’s the best fresh scent by JV over the other Artisans. Perfect for summer or office wear but the longevity is not great you’ll get around 4 hours. Overall I’d give this a 8.5/10

This fragrance opens in a burst of fresh, aquatic citrus with a backdrop of rosemary. With pleasant marine and coastal scent developing rapidly to settle as a modern, male-leaning, fragrance. It is one of the best in the range and a joy to wear.

Watery crisp fruity scent. A sales associate actually approached me telling me to try it and sprayed it on my wrist. Fresh opening and dry down. Definitely casual and inoffensive, either way it smells amazing.

Very underrated fragrance. Smells great, definitely best for summer/spring time. Performance is solid too... I get about 5-6 hours of good projection, maybe 4-6ft, and then mainly a skin scent after that.

A laid-back scent, proper for indoor and outdoor casual activities in the summer day time.

Came across this one while testing fragrances at Macy's. I tried about 5 or 6 different John Varvatos fragrances, but this is one that really stood out to me as something I liked. I later found it at an online discounter for about $30 bucks and impulse bought it. Here's how it went; Scent: Opening is citrusy, oceanic, and aromatic. The primary notes I get are lemon, sea salt, rosemary, and musk. The strongest of the notes are the lemon and sea salt giving it a juicy citrus feeling with some added oceanic saltiness, followed by the rosemary for some aromatics and musk for freshness. Dry down is oceanic, woody, and musky. The primary notes I get are driftwood, sea salt, musk, and water lily. The strongest of the notes are the musk and driftwood that give it a uniquely oceanic woody note with added soft freshness from the musk, followed by sea salt and water lily to add more wateriness as well as soft florals. I enjoy how the driftwood note sets this fragrance apart from other aquatics I've tried. It reminds me of standing on a pier at the beach. Performance: Initial projection is strong at around 6 feet. Sillage is strong as well with an easily noticeable scent trail. After 3 hours the projection was within arms length and the scent trail was slightly noticeable. By the seven hour mark the fragrance was a skin scent. When to wear: This is a textbook spring/summer scent most suitable for daytime wear. It's gentle enough to work in an office, but doesn't really match in my opinion. Not really a date scent either. I see this as more of something to wear out in the sun, on the beach, something along those lines. Blind buy: If you like aquatic and musky fragrances like Chanel Allure Home Sport, Acqua Di Gio, etc, this is a safe blind buy for you. Final verdict: I really enjoy the way this one smells. Admittedly, aquatic fragrances aren't typically something I go for; but in the warmer weather I can definitely see myself reaching for this one. It has that mass appealing quality that everyone can enjoy, but also keeps it interesting with that unique driftwood note. Could the performance be a little better? Sure it could, but for an aquatic fragrance around $30 I can't really bash on it too hard. If you're looking for something fresh for a spring/summer rotation that has some character to it, give this one a try. Scent: 8/10 Longevity: 6/10 Sillage: 6/10

Walking through the department store I saw the John Varvatos display. That lovely blue bottle wrapped in the woven webbing caught my eye. I tried a spray of it on one hand and a spray of Mont Blanc Legend on the other. As I drove home, Legend gave me a headache, but Artisian Teal was giving me a show. It was so dynamic and light. Unlike other light fragrances though, this one had character. The fragrance doesn't have much weight to it, which can be a good thing. Perhaps just a tad more weight would have made this perfect. As it is, it's like a sugar-free drink. It taste ok but there's a hole there where the sugar should be. That's not to say Artisian Teal isn't sweet, but it's just missing something. Perhaps something to round the scent out a little. It's still wonderful though. This is one fragrance that I don't think you can put limits on as far as it's application goes. You could kind of use it for anything, but for each wearer, they're going to be comfortable wearing it in certain places. I suppose you could say that for any cologne really, but this one in particular is hard to tie down in my opinion. As much as I want to wear this in the summer, it just doesn't seem to work for me. It's got a weird air to it in the heat. I enjoy it much better when the edge is tempered by the colder weather.

As for the driftwood, which I was excited about, it has no noticeable effect After a few minutes, it turns into a rotten fruit smell, likely from the white florals, and it stays that way until the dry down Once it dries down, after about 45 minutes, what remains is just a cheap citrusy musky scent, not attractive or pleasant Longevity and projection are almost nonexistent, around half an hour. You’d need to carry a small decant and reapply every hour Below average except for the first 20 minutes Buy it only for the opening 5/10

This is a solid, designer-quality "freshie" that leans into a salty, aromatic coastal vibe. It effectively strips away the juvenile, bubble-gum sweetness found in the Invictus or YSL Y DNA, replacing it with a more mature, woody, and aquatic profile. It’s polished and professional, avoiding the "cheap body spray" feel common in this price bracket. The scent is perfectly suited for casual summer days or as a dedicated gym fragrance. Because it lacks cloying sweetness, it remains crisp and clean even as body heat rises. It’s a great way to maintain a "just-out-of-the-shower" aesthetic through a heavy workout. However, the performance is the clear trade-off. Typical of the Varvatos line and the aquatic EDT concentration, this is quite fleeting. You’ll get about an hour of noticeable wear before it pulls entirely into a skin scent. To make an impression, you’ll need to over-apply significantly.

Had this bottle for 6 months now and honestly, i didn't write a review on it cause i thought it was just ok. Felt like it was too similar to something like YSL Y EDP. Today i wore this again and holy ish, this is a banger. Almost to the point of knocking Artisan Blu out of its podium for my go-to Varvatos summer scent. After all these months the comparison to YSL Y doesn't really stand anymore, i think maceration bumped the overall blend to a different direction, definetly developed it's character. Driftwood is very prominent and the saltyness reminds me of the saltyness in Tommy Bahama St. Kitts (another banger btw) but instead of the fruity citrus of TB you get a breezy, musky, aromatic spicyness with a slight sweetness to round it out. Longevity is suprisingly good compared to other Varvatos too. Blind buy worthy for its price.

Love this one, but the reviewer who said it's practically a copy of YSL Y is correct (sporty, fresh, musky, green, subtle and complex). It is a cheaper option. I tried a sample thinking I might want to get a bottle if it was distinct enough, but I can't bring myself to justify it unless and until I finish my Y. The sea salt and driftwood notes come through, it is a much more oceanic scent and I think it has a variability over time that Y lacks. If I had known about it before I already made my choice, I might have gone for this one. But it is almost impossible to go wrong with it, it's a rare gem of the department store fragrances, and it would make a good gift.

I blind bought this and have had it for a few days now and so far i am happy eith my purchase, note that i havnt yet tried this during summer this is a salty lemon driftwood fragrance that is amazing, i think this would work really well in extreme heat. When I smell this i imagine myself walking on a beach in the bahamas. easily likeable and stands out to most other blue fragrances vie tried. projection is ok but not good

The scent is close to a ten out of ten for me---beautiful, beachy, sea-breezy, salty citrus and wood---but the performance is not as strong (unless I'm just going noseblind), probably around a five. That puts it at a 7.5 total, so I think it's worth the buy unless you already have a good oceanic-style frag and aren't in the market for another.

Very nice fragrance. I would rank this 2nd after Artisan Pure from the Varvatos line. This won't offend anyone and has a really nice pleasing scent. Surprised that no one has mentioned this but this reminds me of the original Nautica cologne from the mid-late 90s. In fact, first time I smelled it, it sent me back to high school/ college.

I find it humorous that users compare perfumes to things like soap, body wash, and shampoo with a hint of disdain. News flash: Shampoo, body wash, etc., are supposed to smell good. If a fragrance reminds you of one, that's a testament to the manufacturer's skill since you remember what the product smelled like.

Very fresh, salty, marine perfume. You can clearly smell the distinctive driftwood note and the iconic musk, along with a slight floral note and some kind of a spicy pink pepper. Overall a great Perfume, doesn't cause nausea, and easy-to-wear. The only con is the longevity and sillage.

Definitely a casual-leaning fragrance. Similar to many of the other "blue" scents that are popular right now. Although the dry-down is pretty generic (nothing wrong with that!), the opening is richer than most. A solid choice in this category. Neat bottle design, too.

I can see the resemblance of YSL Y EDP but this is a little different with a touch breezy florals. A nice summer scent that’s better than most fresh fragrances that are being released now. Also it’s pretty strong for the first 4 hours you can smell the ambroxan.

Smells really good. Perfect for summer, and spring time. Very refreshing, but I don’t feel like it’s different enough to be FB worthy. 8/10 Smells good, but basic. Note: this really doesn’t smell like Ysl Y at all.

A musky, aquatic, fresh fragrance for the warmer months. I normally don't like musky scents on myself but I think this one is well blended and a little seductive ;) Projects 3-4 hours.

The perfect fragrance for your summer vacation and going to the beach! Aquatic, salty, musky and amazing fresh lemon. Performance is mid though and the atomizer is not the best.

ysl y, right? lol, get your noses fixed, guys. this one, thank god, is exactly the opposite of what ysl is trying to do with a so called modern fragrance. 9/10

Rating : 6 / 10 Price : Affordable I wonder if people associate Teal as something sweet rather than fresh and cool It reminds me of YSL Y EDT + Montblanc Legend Spirit. This smells nothing citrus nor marine nor mineral ish I think the notes are completely off. Like Completely. Clearly there's amber or green apple notes but not lemon Something's zingy, almost niddle pointing my nose strong, but I wouldn't say this is citrus at all Just super zingy opening This is a sweet fragrance with alooooot of musk and a hint of rosemary + AMBER It's soft, almost soapy, but dominant bubble gum-ish sweetness. For me it's more like late spring day fragrance. Can't wear this in a humid hot weather not even on beach. It's got a cool bottle but spiky and don't feel that comfortable at all

Attractive bottle, though the cap doesn't feel like it securely fits. It's fresh with a hint of sweetness (to my nose), but I became swiftly nose blind to the fragrance in short time. I spray a couple times around my neck and once on my chest. I figured the longevity and projection was rather weak. However, after four hours, I was walking with someone, and he said he could smell my cologne and was curious about it. He didn't say if he liked it or not; however, the fact that he could smell it in the air around me and that I could not smell it at all let me know that it was indeed still present. It's a nice fragrance, good for the office or for a dumb reach.

Honestly i'm inclined to agree it smells like YSL Y EDP and JPG Le Beau EDT... not sure why but gives off that fruity sweet vibe. YSL Y EDP has always been too sweet for me as well!

To my nose, this smells exactly like L’Homme Cologne Bleue by Yves Saint Laurent but with pink pepper. Which, to me, makes it worse. Otherwise extremely similar.

Great beach/ocean scent that dies off within literally 30min of spraying. Even for $25 on discounters, this isn’t worth it, save your money.

Generic and vintage citrus. Weak (i was told it was a water based scent so i didn't care anyways). Jesus this is the worst in the line.

Y edp in a salty flavor. Quite nice, smooth and refreshing, but it's a John Varvatos so it lasts around 30 minutes at the most.

salty lemon is the best way to describe it. I get bored of it very fast, and it lasts like 3-4 hours max.
