Pony Boy

This fragrance was my first from Jorum and is a masterpiece, I purchased spiritcask not long after. There's almost this herbal quality dill or the maybe the carrot seed which reminds me of homemade Jewish chicken soup I grew up eating. Not all will feel this way, I wear it for this reason, that scent is very soothing. The grapefruit is less noticable, but definitely nice. Today I over sprayed and wore it in the Fort Lauderdale heat on Las Olas Blvd and I heard someone say aloud it stinks like weed, Im not 100%, but I am pretty sure they were referring to me 🤣. I really love the fig in this as well, it's almost powdery. This fragrance is very well belended and it took my nose a few months to completely comprehend, and I am still deciphering it. This definitely goes through changes on my skin, projects 2ft and last long, it happens to work really well with my chemistry. I'm in sfl and this can be difficult to wear, I like wearing this on a hot rainy day or in winter. It works well with humidity and also inside an air conditioned corporate office. This fragrance is for people who understand and enjoy niche. Pony Boy is not beautiful in the conventional sense, it's beautiful because it's interesting, it's like nothing else I have worn. This is a very high quality and very natural smelling fragrance and a recommended blind buy for niche collectors that understand and like the notes. This feels special when I wear it, because it is. I feel like a lot of love went into both the creation of the ingredients in this and also the formulation of the finished product.

Le Labo Thé Noir 29 as craft beer (compliment) On a non-comparative review basically how I'd describe it is how I would describe ^The Noir – it didn't get tea or noir tbh but it's super dewy and floral of a scent. Reminds me of impressionist paintings. Yknow how things just seem so wet and muddled but all the flowers swirl into each other but in like an uplifting airy kind of wet than something dark and damp? Yeah that. So take that and maybe have a few beers while you're watching it. Is the scene then sharing beers with a friend at a museum gallery? It's light and fun though don't get me wrong! It isn't The Noir but more masculine or sth I found it to bear the same skeleton. Still unisex. I imagine it could come off differently on someone else. This was ALMOST a blind buy and in hindsight I wouldn't mind if it had been

So BRIGHT and BUBBLY and HAPPY! It smells like a perfect day - a happy memory from years past. I've never owned a grapefruit or rhubarb fragrance - I normally lean towards fig scents. But this was a nice surprise indeed. It's unique, while being quite simple. I got married in Scotland, so wore this scent at the events leading up to my wedding day, both because of the Scottish symbolism in the brand and the scent, and because the scent quite simply just makes you feel happy. It smells like first loves. I love Jorum Studio. I went to their shop in Edinburgh and they were so informative, and every one of their scents was unique. I also love the stories behind the scents, and I'm really eager to try more.

I am new to fragrances so I'm not sure I'll be able to say much about this fragrance that is useful... but I just had to exclaim about how much I love this perfume. Oh my god. To my novice nose, it is so weird but good. Definitely fruity, definitely floral, but in an edgy way where in my notes I wrote "I think only hot people wear this." There is something underneath the fruit/floral that tames it and I would not call it that sweet. I am obsessed and will definitely be getting a fullsize. An absolute masterpiece. Tart, mouthwatering rhubarb that lasts on the skin and does not turn bitter. It's a little similar to Rhubarbe écarlate but greener, and Pony Boy doesn't have musk. I instantly fell in love with this on paper and on the skin, it's somehow even better. You really need to love rhubarb though because it's a powerful fragrance. I love rhubarb in food as well as in fragrances so this is an absolute win for me. (Byredo's Pulp does have a few similarities with Pony Boy, but Pulp to me is a basket of fruits almost rotting in the sun - in the absolute best way possible - whereas Pony Boy is almost a one note rhubarb frag to me.)

Reviewing a sample from 2025.Pony Boy was launched in 2022. This a bright fruity floral fragrance that will make you smile. Pony Boy opens with fresh sour rhubarb and realistic grapefruit - the tartness barely tempered with peppery spices. Aromatic woods , ambrette and vetiver are perfectly executed to balance the bright opening. Slightly sweet and floral in the heart. The drydown is beautiful. Quality- excellent Unisex Performance- excellent Pony Boy is refreshing and fun. Rare to find such a happy fragrance.Tart on first spray but settles into something beautiful and definitely unique. 9/10

Cruising a water sprite in the eucalyptus-scented steam room at the bathhouse. Smoking weed and sipping a grapefruit cocktail in a rose garden. Tripping on acid while eating a beet salad and a raspberry rhubarb pie under a magnolia tree. Bright, fresh, tart, juicy, lightly floral, a little musky and herbaceous in the drydown, Pony Boy is an ethereal, neon pink version of Paradisi's rich earthiness and psychedelic greenery (in fact, Pony Boy + Paradisi = a mind-blowing combo for layering). Not an everyday scent for me but perfect for a fun night out at the Pink Pony Club.

Really unisex, bubbly ripe fruit. Not over assertive, starts out very tropical and kind of fades to a pleasant haze, like walking past a fig tree or a sagebrush. Feels very nature-y, un-extracted, and bit transparent. Maybe tmi, but I love to wear this without deodorant on a warm day because it mixes with BO really beautifully, and softens the sweaty-boy vibes into something that seems like I just smell really good naturally. No makeup makeup, but perfume. Also found success in layering with heavy incense and woods.

Smells like a girl with a high ponytail and a crop top drinking tart, punchy grapefruit/rhubarb juice and beating you with a pink baseball bat. She is laughing and having the time of her life. You spit out a tooth she knocked loose from its socket and laugh along with her. Afterwards, she drives you down the highway going well over the speed limit and blasts her summer playlist. It’s full of Charli XCX and 100gecs. Ponyboy is a sassy, energetic, and uplifting fragrance. Best worn by carefree bitches of any gender.

One of the most delightful things I’ve sprayed on myself in recent memory. Pony Boy is weirdly wonderful, a mix of tangy citrus with fresh greens and a touch of powder, I get the spicy floral note too, can understand why some people pick up rose. All the notes are easy to imagine, only after reading about them here. Jorum is fast becoming my favorite experimental niche house, I have nothing in my almost 300 bottle collection that smells remotely similar. I love that it’s also super easy to wear.

Disclaimer: I'm a Jorum Studio fanboy. Their whole way of doing things gets me thrilled. I don't know if that counts as bias, but I'm definitely interested in their unique direction. Pony Boy is really good. Fruity in a realistic, non-saccharine way, like unripe fruit, blended with the foliage. I feel like I'm just cloaked in a wreath of fragrant berries and rhubarb and other delicious things when I wear it, and it delivers an experience like no other. 5/5 I recommend.

So good and unique, the rhubarb and grapefruit are so fresh and tart they make your mouth water; there's an astringent, bitter quality which plunges into the earthy and spicy - beetroot, coriander and black pepper is a genius combination when paired with that puckering rhubarb and grapefruit. It's all tied together by the bright, rich sweetness of fig and flowers. It's like taking a deep breath of the tastiest air on earth. I just love this fragrance so much.

I actually love this fragrance - definitely gives me vibes of Rhubarbe Escalarte in the opening with sweet and tart rhubarb, but after that dries down it gives way to a certain green "weediness" (not cannabis) that makes me smile - not unlike the aromatic planty earthiness you smell when gardening and pulling weeds. Can't wait to try this out in warmer weather! I love how all of the notes combine to give you such a vivid experience.

This is such a well blended mix of so many facets - tart, aromatic & woody with a hint of sweetness. There is a bitter green almost “pickle” type scent (no complaints from me) that is halted from veering too much into that territory with the lightest touch of powdery sweetness. Agree with the review below that this is unisex. Longevity is also excellent, can smell on clothes the next day and about 6-8 hours on skin.

This is one of those- the sun is bright and shining wake up in the morning somewhere in california put on a bright pink outfit throw your shades on and go kick some ass kind of fragrances. Screams Malibu to me. Rhubarb and grapefruit are the stars here and they are tart and loud. I get a little bit of the pink pepper and the cedar too. Non-linear fragrance which is nice.

What a DELIGHTFUL, nuanced fragrance this is! It's really marvelous for both warm and cool weather, and there's a lot going on here. It lasts long and well, projects, and I'm just in love with the combination of notes here. The tart, juicy fruit and clean spices are a winning combo. It's not just ANY fruit either–really is specifically rhubarb and raspberry. Love!

This smells amazing. To my surprise it seems to work well despite testing it on a cool autumn day. Somehow simultaneously refreshing and woody. The rhubarb is delightfully tart, and the fig and lotus provide the barest hint of sweetness. The woodiness becomes more prominent in the drydown. This is a solidly unisex freshie quite unlike anything else I've smelled.

I love the stuff that jorum studios has been putting out in the last couple of years and pony boy is among the best from this house. While it is “sweet” to me I think the sweet smell almost replicates the aroma from opening a bottle champagne. It’s very sparkly but also dries into something foggy/humid. Very interesting can’t wait to rock this in the spring!

On me, this is a gorgeous sparkly fragrance. This was my surprise favourite out of everything in Jorum’s discovery sets, with Gorseland and Pentimento second and third. Pony Boy smells like dancing on the grass in summer. It’s wholesome and happy and strange and it lasts forever. I’m going to buy a bottle when my sample runs out.

Smelled this having no idea what the notes were. Absolutely shocked this isn't a fresh, sweet, and green rose fragrance. I 100% agree with Alyce. Jorum Studio is quickly becoming my favoirite niche House for natural and earthy and unique frags. Not for beginners but an absolute treat for those who have been around the block.

i’ve always liked this perfume but tonight i fell in love with it. one of the last days of august, hot and humid night spent in a wildflower field watching an opera rehearsal. It’s so bright and bitter and fresh and fruity. I felt juicy and ripe wearing this. Went perfectly with the wafting smells of the field and bug spray.

One of the most beautiful fragrances I own. It opens with a sharp rhubarb note accompanied by a hint of something watery, and I really notice the cedar in the dry down. In comparison to Rhubarbe Écarlate, the opening is similar, but the Hermès fragrance is sweeter, with more prominent berry notes in the dry down.

I LOVE it! One of the most fun unique scents I've ever smelled. Very tart and playful, I have never smelled anything quite like it. I don't get the story for this perfume at all but it's delicious and fun. For the price especially it has fabulous performance and is totally worth the full bottle. Will purchase.

This is for grapefruit lovers. This is rind, pith, juice and seeds muddled and poured into a champagne cocktail. It’s sparkling but not overly sweet, the bitterness from leafy rhubarb and the grapefruit tame the sweetness. I enjoy this summer and winter. Winter it wears more crisp than sweet.

rhubarb-munching little tortoise (can tortoises eat rhubarb? apparently not, let's just pretend) wearing a white terry cloth bathrobe in a sauna. the steam fogs up all the mirrors, and the scent of grapefruit shampoo wafts through the humid air. tart, bright, and sweet.

Fruity rhubarb which lasts an age and settles into something effervescent and powdery similar to what Tales of Zanzibar does. I might just have found my ideal summer friendly fragrance after years and years of searching. Probably Euan's best effort yet. Fantastic.

smells like every shade of pink from blush to magenta. chappell roan. if thé noir 29 were a cold pressed juice. grapefruit, rhubarb, beetroot menage-a-trois. a neutrogena actress splashing water on her face in slow motion. raspberry fresh from the bush.

Rhubarb finally pokes its head out of the soil in June, and I, dripping with sweat from the 40 degree heat and 90% humidity, harvest some of it to feed to my lover who is laid on a bed of vetiver. What a time to be alive, what a perfume.

If you like Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate this is like it’s more mature older sibling, deeper, more complex, stronger and longer lasting.

Per the brand’s inspiration for the perfume, a kelpie is a shapeshifting water spirit, usually appearing in the guise of a horse or a pony, that, like a sea siren, leads someone to a watery death. Pony Boy is as far from spiritual or animalic as it gets, and it has too much energy to be described as deathly. But first - holy rhubarb and coriander! The red and fruity stewed vegetable note of rhubarb in all of its red berry and citrusy glory - plus its more difficult side of cooked celery - is present in spades. The evocation of a rhubarb pie, a staple of where I grew up, is a bullseye hit by Pony Boy to the nearest millimeter. Coriander makes itself known in a big way with cool, woody, and citrusy herbs. The movement to the heart layer is almost indistinguishable, if it happens at all, but, if it does it is a very odd melange of pepper, red fruits and lemons, sweet oakwood, pond water, and a bit of whipped cream. At this point I’m asking myself, “wtf?” - to use a parlance more like the audience this is geared towards. I cannot make sense of it, but it works. However, it’s at this point where the super green and tart vetiver dry down with plenty of peppery iso e super shows a lot of overlap with Paradisi in that the exact same sourness carries throughout the life Pony Boy but is absent the petrichor accord present in Paradisi. (The vetiver also explains the cooked celery note at the top). Effectively then, from a creative standpoint, the “wtf” moment concludes with “ah, this is a perfume for those that don’t like the mushroom-y/petrichor accord of Paradisi.” And that is, basically, where Pony Boy stops. Due to McCall’s overtly-synthetic-heavy-morass style, which often leads to notes being ill-defined, you can essentially say that this is Paradisi minus the petrichor; without the other materials that were present in Paradisi, Pony Boy’s materials speak a bit more clearly than they did in Paradisi. If the definitions of accords were better composed this could stand as a perfume on its own, but instead it stands as Paradisi minus one. That said, if the petrichor of Paradisi bothers(ed) you, then this is going to be more up your alley. It is still quite striking and worthy of attention, nonetheless.

Well, I liked this perfume, but it's one of the ones I like the less from the line. It is true that I have to admit that in terms of duration Pony boy on my skin is a bomb. I put it on my skin at 6 in the morning before going to work. It's 18 pm and I can still feel it. It is true that he is already very very short, very close to the skin, but he has accompanied me during most of the working day without a problem and projecting. But in this case, from the most subjective point of view, this is not an aroma that I just took away. It is citrus, very citrus; and green, very green... And little else. In fact, for my nose, what stands out the most is a very intense, citric, fruity, acid and bitter rhubarb; And that rhubarb mixed with the grapefruit eats it all up. From there it is difficult for me to distinguish case anything else. Nothing to do with other Euan McCall aromas that for me tend to be much more original and dynamic. Therefore, if you like rhubarb, this may be a treasure for you, but if not, it is better to try it beforehand because, also due to the color of the bottle, it can be misleading. Even so, I have to admit that it is a good perfume, with a very realistic and natural aroma. Pony boy is to rhubarb what Healing Berry is to blackberry. Therefore, for my taste, it is a daytime and summer aroma, very fresh and easy to use. Although I would not buy it for myself, they could perfectly recommend it to those who like this type of scent. ‘Pony Boy’ is sour, but sour in that delicious sweet way. The rhubarb and grapefruit are very detectable initially, but there is something in the base notes that makes this really intoxicating. There is something aromatic and green that I struggle to pick up on. And I have to admit that I am unfamiliar with some of the notes in this composition. But the green and fresh woody base is crystal clear, and I know that when I smell that sparkly grapefruit in the top it is thanks to a clean vetiver in the base notes. The raspberry leaf is doing a great job helping that vetiver-vibrations and the fragrance almost smell like that first sip of champagne or cava on a dewy morning in May. It is quite similar to ‘Pulp’ by BYREDO, and I love ‘Pulp’. Though, ‘Pulp’ has a tendency to get to a slightly sour realm, but ‘Pony Boy’ get fresher with time, and the raspberry and cedar makes sure that ‘Pony Boy’ never smells like a dupe or replica. I have to admit that I prefer this one, but since I already have ‘Pulp’ I cannot justify buying this one...yet. Lastly, I have to applaud Jorum Studios. With everything I smell from them I still manage to get blown away. Not because I love everything they release, but because of the stories, the ingredients, and how the brand is so effortlessly cool. But reading some of these reviews I am saddened by how I do not smell any beetroot or coriander. I really want to know how some people think that this smells like soup or salad! I unfortunately, or fortunately? Only smell sour, fresh fruits and wood.

The morning spring dew and crisp air whip around you as you begin your final trek to the local hot spring. You have travelled for days for a short respite before eventually heading back to your lords castle to serve his hand once more. The smell of the damp and waking woods fills your nose as you make your way into the hot springs grounds. Laid into the pool for your aromatic pleasure are countless grapefruits, figs, and spices that all mix together to form this overarching introduction to your stay here. As time goes on, the fruit starts to fade away as you take in more the woods and natural scenery around you. A beautiful pink lotus and peppered aromaticness rides you through the majority of the fragrance, but cedar and an aromatic, earthy mash of the forest show that they are the true masters of your relaxation. This is a beautiful story in a bottle. A clever and intoxicating battle between herbal, woody, and citrusy notes that really makes this a love for me. It also projects very hard off of me in a pleasant and light way, and even though I’ve sprayed it once on my arms and 1 on my chest; I’ve already gotten 2 compliments on it. This to me definitely leans more late winter, spring, and early summer but I really think this could be someone signature scent for the entire year. A beautiful scent from Jorum, and I will update here with my thoughts on the others from their collections.

This is a pretty special scent, and I honestly can't think of anything like it. Off the bat, that grapefruit really punches me in the face; it's not like grapefruit juice, but the bitter, slightly pungent rind and pith. With the coriander, cedar, and pink pepper, I almost get a medicinal quality—not sterile medicinal, but something like herbal medicine. It's definitely musky, too. If you told me this was a unisex scent straight out of the bottle, I would believe you. Though as it dries, I do get more of the florals and that slight gourmand sweetness from the fig, which naturally mellows everything out into something much softer. It almost reminds me of a less-sweet version of Imaginary Authors' Yesterday Haze after it dries, which makes sense with the fig and woody notes of that fragrance. You'd definitely smell this on your surf instructor or someone who gives yoga classes in the middle of a forest: fresh, punchy, and energetic, but with a strong undercurrent of earthiness. Too fresh for me, but this ought to be perfect for anyone who loves strong florals, citrus, or even aquatic scents.

fruity, tangy and tart. very pink pepper and grapefruit heavy which i love. i’m really glad that this isn’t majorly sweet. it’s more sour than sweet. definitely picking up on the rhubarb which is lovely, but i’d like some more fig. it’s really pleasant and uplifting, the dry down in particular is really pretty. but it’s nothing mind blowing. i am a massive fan of jorum studio. they’re the most inspiring house, and i find their creations so wonderously diverse and titillating. but i have to say, i’m feeling kind of dismayed by this collection... i’m just not connecting much to these fragrances. i adore every selective memory and progressive botany fragrance. but i’m finding these scottish odyssey perfumes to be hit or miss ..... :/

Super, super grapefruit dominant for a lot of the wear. The smell reminds me of the taste of biting into sour grapefruit, which can be a little overpowering. It dries down nicely, lightly floral/woodsy, and I find to be a pretty easy wear. I also think the longevity on this is better than I expected given the comments. I used 4 sprays (each side of my neck and both wrists), and felt a little choked out by it. Someone I know also commented that it was strong when I walked in about 30 in after the first application. I can still smell it on my skin 8 hours after applying, so I'd say it's pretty good for longevity. Scent 8/10 Longevity 8/10 Projection 7/10 Full bottle? Honestly for the price point, definitely a buy for me.

Ignore the listed notes and picture this: You’re drinking a glass of chilled sour red wine that’s had rose petals muddled into it. You didn’t bother washing your hands after weeding your garden, so whenever you raise the glass to your lips, each sip of wine is accompanied by the earthy smell of soil and plant matter. I can’t stress enough how unbelievably rosy this smells to me, despite it having no rose note listed. Thé Noir 29 is weirdly rosy to me too, and they have similarities, although Pony Boy is much more crisp and fresh.

I sense strong nutty notes in the beginning. Like a hazelnut, but not in a gourmand way. More dry, sour. It's also quite green on my skin. With time it starts developing bright fruity notes, with dry woods in the background. I find it very interesting, keep smelling my arm to discover new nuances. Not sure if I would wear it out, I think it's something to enjoy by myself, like a good book.

another banger from jorum studio! this has become my girlfriend's signature scent, and it's so special. every time she wears it, she smells like a sharp and bright rhubarb-y pickle. there's something quite vinegar-y in here, in a great way. it's peppery and woody and green, too. truly unique.

Juicy grapefruit all the way, not much “woods”, great projection and longevity. Doesn’t turn powdery at all, stays pretty juicy with a slightly acidic note. Refreshing.

I'm so obsessed with this. peppery salty pink grapefruit with that really interesting fresh rhubarb. but it DOESN'T LAST. so disappointing!

I want to like this one, but for me it only smells of mosquito/tick repellent and sweat. Not pleasant at all unfortunately

Pony Boy opens with a sharp, bright fruity-floral chord, immediately followed by an intensely musky and sour wrongness. This is Maximum Rhubarb: so sour it'll pucker your mouth and curdle your skin. It's bright pink and fruity around the edges, but with a hot-breath or boiled-celery note at the center that definitely doesn't smell "fresh" (but is an authentic part of the Rhubarb Experience). A few minutes in, the funk passes and we just get a "pink grapefruit" kind of deal (i.e. punchy citrus and fruity pink rose.) It's exactly like being a tween girl in the Y2K era and it's a happy zone to hang out in. Then the rose warms and softens slightly; it's more mature now, and quite pleasant. And finally, at about two hours in, we're back to that musky, hazy, dust-gray rhubarb off-note, now more clearly legible as having been vetiver all along. This is a clever perfume. A hyper-realistic rhubarb that gradually falls apart into its components of citrus, fruity rose, and vetiver. It's even likable in parts! but definitely challenging. I'm pretty sure this is only going to appeal to people with large perfume collections; it's too much of a novelty for me to imagine it as anyone's "signature scent." Pony Boy is meant to evoke the kelpie, the legendary horse that lures the unwary to drown -- or, more prosaically, a twink at a sauna. Wacky, but yes, Pony Boy is indeed fruity, musky, and steamy. Because rhubarb.

On paper, Pony Boy is very floral, but in a 'cool' way instead of a vintage or overly feminine way. It literally just smells like a bouquet of flowers. Over time, it grows sweeter and more waxy? Almost like a Starburst candy. On my skin, it's very Jo Malone-coded. It's more floral to me than fruity sweet. While I don't see a rose note listed, I definitely get that when I smell. In the drydown, a sour, bitter smell comes through, which is new to me. In the end, it's a pretty straightforward floral, but it sort of smells like a bouquet of flowers with one type of flower in it that I've never seen or smelled before. I'm a little surprised it's a 'love' for so many people.

Rating this a 3 doesn't quite capture it. Pony Boy is so weird - as others have said, it's a startlingly photo realistic pickle scent. If you really sit with it for a bit, though, it's woody, spicy, herbal, and bright, qualities I usually love in a scent. But, alas, pickles. I want to spray this on paper and see how it performs there. Update: on paper, there’s still a certain vinegary quality, but it's not nearly as pickled. Very herbal, less woody than on my skin. Not really something I want to wear, but there is something appealing in is sweet and sour quality.
