Blue Waltz

Blue Waltz is relatively new to me, but I know the heart-shaped bottle well. I've seen old bottles in just about every antique store I've visited. About a year ago I found out it's still in production, so I knew I had to try it! I couldn't find it at a drugstore near me, so my bottle comes from Amazon. I decanted the perfume into a spray-bottle, and I recommend everyone do the same. When you spray it, you get to experience the opening in its entirety. It smells lovely. A hint of citrus, aldehydes, and iris powder. The powdery iris mingles with the carnation and rose beautifully. The base is soft and sweet with benzoin, the dry, powdery type of vanilla, and some tonka. Charming, soft, very pleasant. It's one of those nostalgic perfumes that will remind you of bath oil, baby powder, and the scent of your mother's makeup. I spritz it as a relaxing perfume before I fall asleep. Blue Waltz has been around in some form since the 1920s, and that was a time before fragrances were strictly marketed to one sex or the other. Originally a unisex fougere with soft florals, but today it's sold as a feminine. It's a more subtle scent with moderate longevity, about 5 hours. Definitely worth $5.00 if you like vintages, it's a very good one! On the comparisons to other perfumes: -I think Blue Waltz is more closely related to L'Heure Bleue than Shalimar. If you can imagine a simpler, lighter version of L'Heure Bleue, that's a good idea of what to expect from it. -Modern Baby Soft is linear baby powder in liquid spray form. It has a lot more emphasis on the snowy aldehydes and soapy clean musks. Blue Waltz is more complex, it has more florals and a deeper base with stronger emphasis on amber, vanilla, tonka.

Soft, smooth and powdery perfumes usually don't appeal to me, and yet BW is utterly delicious. After reading an article about this vintage perfume I discovered a BW mini in my collection. For some reason I'd never even opened it ... In any case, the stuff inside the heart shaped bottle with the molded blue cap is lovely: warm, spicy and a little sweet. The scent reminds me of the prettiest face powder in the world, satiny and smooth and just devastatingly pretty! Sillage and lasting power are pretty good, the perfume lingers for a long time but never gets dusty/chokey like some powder frags do. BW is a venerable cheapie vintage, a bottle won't break the bank. Hopefully more people will rediscover this wonderful fragrance, it deserves to become popular again.

Spicy, powdery-sweet, even a little incensey, "Blue Waltz" is one of those simple little perfumes that feels cozy and like a general idea of what perfume should smell like (rose-jasmine-powder-citronella). At one point in recent months, I had a drawer full of these. Be careful with the cap, don't put it on too tightly or you'll break it but otherwise, there's something so satisfying about dabbing on a scent from this heart-shaped bottle. It fits in the palm of your hand. The overall feeling of this scent is slightly humid baby powder with a fresh overlay of sweet citronella and to me, it feels very 1950's in spirit: Perfectly primped and feminine.

This was the first perfume I bought for myself and I got it at the Vermont Country Store. Fun, beautiful fragrance with great memories attached to it. Lovely scent for the price and the packaging really ties it all together.

Very nice mix of baby powder and sexy, spicy notes. Blends well with natural body heat and perspiration as the day goes on. Great for cold weather and a lovely vanity bottle.

The smell of Johnson’s baby shampoo in the 80’s. Very comforting for me, and my son loves it as well! What a hidden, thrifty pleasure!

I like to wear this and then read a nice older book.

This was Bonnie Parker's signature scent. There was a bottle of it in the makeup that traveled with her during she and Clyde''s brief criminal career. I ordered two bottles which are small and heart shaped with blue stoppers. My first impression of the scent was that it seemed so sweet and light, similar to Aquamatine, or Blue Grass, almost like a little girl scent.and absolutely no staying power. I had to keep reapplying and one of the plastic bottle tops broke in the process., so I transferred the contents to a travel spray atomizer. Now I can just spritz and walk through ..and what a difference that makes! A thin layer on the skin, especially if you are out in the sunshine ..intensifies it. I could see how the Texas sun made this beautifully delicate scent bloom and go vibrant like a field of Texas blue bonnets.

It's a sweet vanilla/benzoin in the dry down that I like on days where I don't want to smell like anything recognizable. I transfer it to a spray atomizer bc dabbing it on doesn't do it justice. I don't think dabbing any perfume (unless it's an actual Parfum or Extrait) works for EdP or EdT's. You need that propellant to get those oils (molecules) warmed up and smelling great. As a side note, most people like the little bottle. I don't. To me it looks like a headstone marker for a grave. I was recently walking through the old graveyards in downtown Boston and there was a marker just like it. Sorry for giving you the visual.

“Oh Blue Waltz”!, you started it all for me. at around age 10, My Gran who raised me took me to Woolworth’s one day where I I was allowed to smell this, I was in love! It was as if I had found the most beautiful smell of all. From then on I was enthralled with Perfume especially French ones. I remembered the sweet smell of this throughout my life and a year ago I found two little bottles online at The Vermont Country Store!. I was delighted to see it and smell that sweetness again. It does not smell exactly as I remembered, but it is similar. It does now remind me somewhat of Shalimar, but it is quite synthetic smelling.

I recently found this unexpectedly in a Rockabilly hair pomade shop in Munich near Viktualienmarkt. The tiny vintage style bottle is absolutely adorable so I couldn't help but picking one up. To me this is mostly a powdery resinous vanilla that stays close to the skin and gives a vibe of being clean and 'well groomed'. Longevity is not more than 3 hours on me. It reminds me quite a lot of a German children care cream (Kaufmann's). A cozy nostalgic pic for a rainy day at home.

The miniature size of this reminds me of when I was a kid and the neighborhood Five & Dime sold tiny bottles of perfume like Evening in Paris. I bought it out of the feeling of nostalgia. Unfortunately, the bottle's plastic screw top cracked before I had used all of the perfume and the remaining liquid dried up.

You could buy this at Woolworth's for about a quarter in the 1950s. It seems that someone bought me a bottle, I only remember it was cloyingly sweet. I blame Blue Waltz for always disliking Shalimar, White Shoulders and other, expensive ones of that era. Still, it had its place as a cheap starter fragrance for junior high school girls!

I have loved perfume all my life...but not THIS one!!! This is the most nose assaulting perfumes ever, and that from the girl who would try everything at the drugstore. When I got in the car my mom told me I smelled like a French whorehouse. But I do not like this one, sadly and I think I am the only person who doesn't....

My mother used to wear this when she was under 18! Or so she tells me. This was a 1950's drugstore cheapie fragrance which according to my mother was a clean powdery floral scent, very easy to wear, not a statement or expressive perfume, reminiscent of such frags as Shalimar - or rather the current issue of Shalimar Cologne & Eau de Toilette, Parfum Initial & L'Heure Bleue. I have worn those fragrances & can confirm that it does smell a bit similar. Also it has an aura of Oscar De La Renta Esprit. This is still available in some drugstores & on eBay. The scent is linear & doesn't last very long, a light powder toilette and the notes are of: vanilla, lemon, carnation, red rose, powdery notes, benzoin, oakmoss, geranium and coumarin. The first thing you smell is citrus courtesy of a lemon & coumarin almost like an orange blossom. I don't know if orange blossom was a note that was around in the old days but it smells just like orange blossom a citrus floral scent. In this way it does ressemble Shalimar. But it's much sweeter and not as medicinal or bitter as Shalimar citruses. Then I smelled the floral notes: iris, rose, geranium and a little jasmine. This is not white floral but I did detect at least one white flower. This is mostly a powdery rose like the rose in Shalimar Parfum Initial. This is powdery & very soft, youthful & sweet. My mother tells me she wore it to her first boy/girl party and that it was a favorite among Southern teenagers in Georgia & Alabama in the mid 50's. It was so soft and feminine but not in a mature way as it smells of then edible "gourmand" vanilla. It was something girls wore to their junior prom, school dances, or to socialize or dance in front of jukeboxes. There is something milky & vanilla about it like a MILKSHAKE. Can you imagine the smell of a perfumed milkshake? It's that sweet & yummy. The vanilla is the major note & takes over the dry down. This perfume is very outdated by today's standards but it smells so good & works with my chemistry which never gets too "mature" for fragrances that are sweet. I think this is a delicious fragrance and I love powdery perfumes so this is just my cup of tea. I wear it now & then for my own pleasure & when my mother smells it she rolls her eyes. "You're wearing my perfume you cheeky devil" she says while laughing. I love it. This fragrance has long been discontinued but should be credited as a very well made early (and I do mean early) vanilla gourmand fragrance. Vintage lovers would eat this up. It's such dreamy vanilla! I think this fragrance is perfect for winter but it's good any season all year round. Sweet & pretty!

Fragrance Review For Blue Waltz Joubert Notes Vanilla lemon, carnation, red rose, powdery notes, benzoin, oakmoss, geranium coumarin This is a perfume my mother wore when she was a kid! She recently rediscovered this fragrance on ebay. She told me it was her very first perfume. It's been compared to Shalimar, but after smelling it myself I can see it smells a lot more floral than Shalimar. It's more like Emeraude. The bottle is adorable. The fragrance itself is powdery and light, innocent, sweet and easy to wear. I smelled roses in powdered form, geranium and a citrus. It's fresh and sweet, but turns powdery and like a little girl's vanilla scented hand lotion. There is also a baby powder type of scent. The rose and geranium as well as carnation stand out. It seems to speak of young girls in poodle skirts at the malt shop or the ice cream parlor or a diner where they serve vanilla ice cream, root beer and where there is a jukebox. Teens congregate to dance and mingle. Totally a perfume that matches up with the TV show Happy Days. Vanilla dominates the dry down, creamy delicious vanilla. I really do like this perfume but having both Emeraude and Shalimar I don't need to wear this too much. It's really nice and nostalgic for those of you who were teens of the 50's or a perfume for vintage classic perfume lovers.

I bought a 19 mL mini dabber of this perfume for less than $3 at Walgreens, and it really is a nice little gem. It is Shalimar-esque in that it's a warm, resinous vanilla perfume - but I don't think it's that similar. This perfume is more innocent, because of intense doses of powder (like baby powder.) There is a freshness here similar to traditional men's cologne splash, perhaps provided by lemon and geranium - most noticeable at the top. The drydown is warm delicious cozy vanilla/benzoin that sits comfortably on your skin. I loved wearing this even in the heat, because it's not overbearing after about an hour. I smell the tonka, too - it adds its unique flavor to the powdery vanilla. Wearing this perfume reminds me of just getting out of the shower, perhaps splashing on some cologne and also using baby powder liberally for sticky summer days. Blue Waltz is a gem for sure, especially for the price! The one complaint I have is that the packaging for this perfume bottle is truly terrible - the little blue plastic lid easily breaks after a couple of weeks of screwing it on and off. They should at least include a rubber stopper so that when the lid does inevitably break, all the perfume doesn't evaporate. But I guess you can always decant :)

I got this perfume as a 12 year old that BEGGED their parents for a perfume so she could be a fancy Vogue lady. I got it for valentines day and I'm pretty sure my father picked it out because my grandmother and aunties wore it when he was a kid. It smells vintage but in a very pleasant way-- less opening a musty Avon bottle and more like sitting at your moms old armoire and going through her old makeup and photos of her as a teenager. I don't think I could really describe the notes in a way other than vintage, floral and powdery. I can always recognize the scent though-- its permanently burned into my olfactory memory. You can buy it on the Vermont country store website still and its pretty affordable. I don't think I'd wear it anymore but I think about buying a bottle sometimes just to open it once in a while.

beautiful cheap vintage scent, im 20 and this is my first time smelling this perfume, to me it smells very sweet the vanilla in the base is very prominent and it gets stronger and sweeter as it dries down, very powdery, slight citrus as well mainly in the opening, the citrus dissapears after 20 mins and what remains is a very powdery aledehydic, sweet vanilla scent, it does smell very cheap, but thats ok because this is like 5 dollars anyway, smells like the cheapest version of Chanel NO 5

Was super excited when I read reviews stating that it smelled like vanilla since I'm a big fanatic of anything vanilla, but unfortunately I don't smell any vanilla. Its quite spicy and it reminds me of that one Florida Water Cologne, which is not my favorite. It also smells floral and very alcoholic. Cute bottle and everything but not my favorite no matter how hard I try :(
