Sombres Dessins

Sombres Dessins is a burnished etude in the key of sandalwood. Sandalwood can be quite dry and stark, but here the supporting accords complement it beautifully. The bergamot and pink pepper are quite at the fore in the opening and quickly step back from the limelight. The middle notes each have a presence, but they are team players and no one really elbows the others out of the way. The patchouli, olibanum, and rum step up to the plate to support the star of the show, and again they balance the sandalwood nicely. Jovoy Paris has taken dry sandalwood and enriched it with a complementary array of accords that together are a glory. This is an interesting, opulent fragrance, well suited to woman or man. Oscar Wilde would have worn this. Very bohemian, very rich, with an elegant wit. I want to be seduced by someone wearing this. This goes on my WANT list. Exotic, incense-like accords are right in my wheelhouse, and this fits snugly in a gap I was not aware existed.

One of the best new collection of jovoy with balsamic woody scents. This is one of the most beautiful sandalwood and rose base fragrance i have ever smelled. it starts with bergamot and pink pepper(top note) and then I can smell patchouli and saffron on the middle note. On the base note you can feel a little bit saffron. Patchouli scent has got very neutral scent. After 2 hours you can feel a bit bergamot scent. It is a good perfume for fall/winter. It is a unisex perfume. Sillage and staying power is also very good.

Nice, a bit boozy, and fled away while I was still trying to discern the notes. Lol. Second Jovoy I tried and both of them are so fleeting on my skin. On clothing, I guess Calvini below more or less described it all quite nicely already. Very interesting that somehow I fell for this. Lovely indeed.

Really like it. Starts off smoky then dries done to this super sexy drydown. Notice a light floral/amber/wood in the background that is very intriguing. A sexy ambiguous strange. Very unisex and love it.

Smells like dry, spicy and somewhat medicinal sandalwood. Quiet dusty with lots of spicy/herbal aspects. Rose gives a bit of sweetness (like a dried and crushed rose petals). It’s very unique and interesting, and I believe it can be a comforting scent. Follow me on IG: scent.guide

Vintage sour vibe with smoky (burnt) frankincense, sharp & dusty sandalwood, and slightly uncomfortable leathery saffron; smells unnatural with a touch of natural, almost pleasantly unpleasant—quite interesting.

Distinct presence of Amber-Sandalwood. Nice

I hate to give a bad review, but this did not go well with my chemistry. It kind of smelled like Off bug spray. I thought it would change notes as I wore it (like some do), but it didn't really improve. I ended up using an essential oil rollerball to cover up the scent about 3 hours into wearing it. That being said, it did have great staying power as I could still smell it through the whole day.

You win some, you lose some. And Sombres Dessins is a big loser. The combination of a synthetic sandalwood with the rum and the saffron note take this scent into an odd direction, dare I say it’s almost a weird gourmand on my skin— like a gourmand with formaldehyde. I’m aware how that may sound strange, because it is a horrible scent. Go ahead and pop my balloons. I don’t get bug spray like others below. I’m not sure what it reminds me of? Most unusual, the one caveat is that it has tenacity. I tried twice, and thought it was borderline nauseous then tried to scrub it off. The scent didn’t let go of its tight grip on me. Sombres Dessins is a firm pass.

This perfume doesn't develop for me as the arrangement of notes suggest,sandalwood is among base notes but as I spray it,opening part is all about sandalwood,I like sandal when it's not dominant and adds a semi sweet creamy vanilla like undertone to perfumes but here it's very dominant and I don't like this flat,balmy smell of sandalwood,there are also some spicy and boozy notes detectable during first minutes,unfortunately it's not rum,as it usually appears,warm and sweet..it's something sharp,almost sour vinegar like,maybe bergamot is blending with spicy notes producing such a boozy but unpleasant note,all in all I deeply dislike it As time passes,rose shows up,this rose,some saffron,patch(not a unique combo)makes the scent likable Drydown is half rose,half sandalwood,not bad,but not also special,it's rich,nice and definitely unisex Longevity is more than moderate,almost good.sillage is moderate and this is a fragrance for mild,cool weather so best season for it would be fall Although drydown is nice I can't get over first hour's sourish sandalwood and even it's nice drydown is not worth it's price IMHO Recommended to sandalwood lovers more than rose lovers ❤❤

Standard fare boozy rose / synth-sandalwood / saffron cocktail that’s been done a million times before, but it’s done well here. They’ve managed to mix sour ebanol/javanol/sandalrome etc. with a facsimile of actual sandalwood (a kind of milky, textured accord akin to what Diptyque did with Tam Dao), and the result is pretty authentic. It doesn’t smell as boomy as real sandalwood, yet it’s a step up from what these kind of scents usually do. But what gives it its real edge is the use of earthy notes like patchouli which break the trite rose/ebanol binary. There’s also a pink pepper note that acts like treble to the lower frequencies, and there are some fruity elements that serve to push the stewed/boozy effect further. Overall, it’s hardly an original style (rose/synth-sandalwood), but it’s done in a way that makes it stand out from its brethren. I usually find Jovoy’s releases to be mediocre, but this one’s decent for what it is.

Now this has oomph! Lots of rum soaked rose and patch (I love that the rum is actually really present here, most frags just have an alcoholic burst - not this one), twists of exotic osmanthus, spicy pepper, and creamy woods. Very heady, boozy, and I love it! *Second testing: I am starting to understand the reviews about the off bug spray. It's in the initial burst, and the drydown has a faint, chalky / grainy quality about it.

Smokey woods... labdanum, galbanum, sandalwood, bokhoor, big doses of patchouli, & incense.. This is a dense smoky blend for those who adores incense, & Arabian style bokhoor. Beautiful.

I don't know why, but it smells like some kind of pastry to me. I don't detect any of these notes (and I freely admit I'm not refined enough to pick up on some of them).
