Ume Amaretto Oath

I`m a sucker for plum note in scents so I really like this one. But this is a very unique plum - almost spicy and edgy. Probably that`s the mix with the amaretto. Really lovely and pretty unique creation.

The opening is spicy-fruity, and kinda reminiscent of Parfum d'Empire Aziyade, then it gradually becomes super dense, syrupy and even smoky, I guess the labdanum is the culprit here. Overall, I like the scent, but I guess Aziyade scratch the same itch for the fraction of the price.

The Perfumes in J-Scent's Profound collection are more modern than their earlier scents. There are popular elements and notes rather than utterly traditional Japanese ones and the structure of the scents differ as well. The delicate, subtle and somewhat fragile aroma connects the scents which are in the bottles with the white label. They are all different in their own way but I experience them all as very calming concoctions. I have written of them in my review of "Yawahadat" . Ume Amaretto Oath has an intriguing opening which style is familiar from older releases - I mean to make you feel "wow". Anyway in the same time it feels very familiar like dozens of other scents nowadays and it has the notes which seems to been trending during the last years - like boozy notes and Plum. It opens up with almondy Amaretto and ripe Plum which is not clearly fruity nor juicy. Opening is not unique but in the same time it maybe pleases the bigger audience. The scent doesn't have the big step between the different stages, it evolves slowly into the dry down maintaining the boozy feeling and the scent of Almond. All the flowers in the middle seem to be only in a supportive role. The base of the scent is totally different than the scent which I love from this house. Here it's not so subtle and therefore I'm missing the J-Scent's signature style which is unique, very Japanese and so delicate that I'm wondering how it's possible to make something so fragile that I feel that I could break it like a balloon and still it maintains my interest into the scent during it's lifetime . This could be easily the perfume of some other house. The notes in the base perform in the way which doesn't convince me. It makes me think why such a beautiful house wants to make something which could be found widely already. This scent is heavy and it may be headache inducing. Chocolate is not realistic nor sweet and Labdanum together with Patchouli is dominating in the base. This seems to be something delicious but actually it's not. This is not a bad scent but it's not how it looks if thinking the notes and if you know some of their earlier work you maybe wait something different than this and don't enjoy it. This happened to me and the more I smell it the more I'm curious to discover their older releases. Thank you for reading, I hope my review was helpful. This was a discovery and pickup from the most recent edition of Scentxplore. While I was over at Un Nuit Nomade deliberating over which travel sprayers to pick up, a friend of mine was two booths over at J Scent. She beckoned me over excitedly, told me she had picked up their "Roasted Green Tea" perfume and had me smell a strip of it. I was quite shocked by how much I liked it. I normally dislike tea notes in perfumery. But it was an incredibly photo realistic representation of a high quality hojicha. I was captivated. Eventually a sales rep began handing me strips to smell. Every scent I smelled was unique, well composed and well blended. The consistency of their evident competency as a brand was astonishing to me. By the time she moved me over to smell their "Profound" line, another sales rep had already gifted me a discovery set, which meant I should have walked away, and yet something told me that I had to test "Ume Amaretto Oath" on skin. So I did. I do not jest when say I have never, and I mean NEVER paid for a full sized, moderately expensive bottle of fragrance so quickly, and without hesitation in my life. The scent bubble was like nothing I'd ever smelled. This was not the smell of a bag of GMO laden plums in a plastic container from your local Trader Joes. This was a curious little UME plum, from the east, with leaf and stem on and redolent of the shiso and perilla that i've only ever experienced at Japanese Michelin dining experiences. The amaretto is detectable, but on the poisonous rather than the toothache spectrum of sweet. The florals in the middle existing only to keep the non-gmo plum...spurting. 2 hours in, the dry down, which, btw lasts for 6 more hours is the perfect sumptuous portion of dark chocolate mousse garnished with a patchouli leaf and a sour ume plum, served chilled in an Hermes porcelain desert dish. This is an absolutely stunning creation, and I am beyond thrilled to have it in my collection.
