Judy Garland 100th Birthday

Today is the anniversary of Judy's passing. I've been wearing this all month pretty much, starting just days before her birthday (June 10th), and I was shocked to see how well it works in warmer weather. Bought this when it first came out and have only ever worn it in colder months prior to now. It definitely needed to sit a bit to do its thing too, as the initial sprays a few years back were not nearly as rich and enjoyable as it is now. And yet, it's still very subtle. Someone complimented me on my scent and said it was faint, subtle & delicate, and I never would have described this scent like that as it feels like a heavy hitting in-your-face power bomb. But it's not. I thought you could easily overspray this, but I suppose we can't... because the day I got that compliment I definitely went crazy with the sprays. It doesn't last. So as loud as it seems to want to be in the initial moment after spraying, either it fades quickly, my skin is drinking it up, or it's just not strong. Maybe all of the above. I saw someone voted CK's Euphoria as similar, and though they don't share notes besides orchid and wood, they do actually have similarities, surprising enough. I've paired them together and they get along just swimmingly. Again, this is listed as a "fine fragrance", not an edt, nor an edp. They say it's an edp, but it certainly doesn't act like one. It's a facade. It's only pretending... she's only playing a role she's been set up to play - she's not at all what you think. RIP Judy, and thanks for the lovely month we have shared together. We'll do it again next year. 👠❤️🌈

I inquired to the company what exactly this is, nowhere does it say it is edt, edp, cologne.. only a fine fragrance. What does this mean? They responded by assuring me this was an edp, but why then is it not listed as such? And if it were, wouldn't it last longer than it does? Don't get me wrong, it is a beautiful scent, I'd just like more clarity on what it is I'm wearing. Where exactly does a "fine fragrance" sit on a scale of cologne to parfum?

Nice. Feminine leaning but I could see a well dressed well groomed man pulling it off. Starts off fruity sweet but that does dry down to more of a clean spice base. The rose is not a classic rose scent- more jammy fruity. Blind buy for me. It’s not unique or standout-ish but it is pleasing and inoffensive. It is in the same “vibe” as CH Good Girl.

A true unisex fragrance. Was a blind buy for me but luckily I’m in love with this one. Almost smells like it could be a YSL la nuit de l'homme flanker. Sweet and spicy. Glad I got this one. Will re purchase in the future!

I got a bunch of samples of this through my work back in 2022 and I’m still working through them LOL. this is a very fruity, sweet, feminine-leaning fragrance to me, which is probably why i still haven’t gotten through all my samples—it’s just not my style. however, this is probably my most-complimented perfume lmao. it performs decently, enough that even a few hours after spraying someone would stand next to me in the office kitchen and say, “wow, you smell good.” wish it was more my speed but what can you do

Not really sure what to think of this, the initial application smells like men’s cologne, not unisex. By the time it sweetens it’s gone. No longevity at all, I’m returning it. I was so excited for these notes, but it’s just not good. This was disappointing.

Well, it wasn't a case of "You made me love you...." Rather an encounter with a Judy Garland impersonator. This is a NO no, no! Too young to sweet and I mean nauseatingly sweet to the point that I had to scrub it off. Judy was of the age of the classic beautiful, sophisticated Adult and I mean grown up smart women's perfumes. This is obviously designed to capture an immature and very young audience. Not a perfume for me at all, just a sad cashing in on the name of a great talent.

Interesting review by rosequeen who grows roses. Found this on a gardening rose site. Actress-singer ‘Judy Garland’ has a cheery, show-stopping rose named for her–a scarlet, orange and yellow floribunda that makes you want to belt out “shout alleluia come on get happy”. Looking forward to my sample!

Ok, I was curious. I saw it advertised here, on the right side of this website, and I finally got around to checking the notes and the description. (I haven't sprung for a bottle.) Since Judy Garland died in what, 1969 (I just looked it up), and allegedly this smells just like what she wore, I have to wonder what it was that she did wear. I suspect what she really wore was Tabu or something like it, very heavy with the base notes and all classes of women over 25 wore Tabu, even the rich. I have to laugh though, in the text of the Beth Carsten article "Judy Garland, A Unisex Fragrance" it says "This unisex fine fragrance showcases a hint of the official Judy Garland Rose with the addition of dark orchid, coriander, and a medley of sultry gourmand and spice notes, newly creating an all-inclusive and gender-neutral fine fragrance,' states the brand." I've grown this rose at least since the 1990's and probably earlier, and it doesn't have any of these notes. It's a dark orange and yellow roses with what the rose catalogs call "a fruity fragrance." helpmefind.com/roses has a photo. People like me who grow a lot of roses and read a lot of rose catalogs have come to distrust anything called a fruity fragrance. It can mean a very light fragrance you can barely smell. And there are a lot of fruit smells, so what you do smell can be nearly anything. But I was into multi-colored roses early on, and they also said it bloomed all the time (and it does), so I bought it anyway. Then one afternoon I got a really good whiff of it out in the sunshine and I started to laugh. It smells exactly like booze, particularly whiskey, left out overnight in a glass after a party. And poor Judy had a drinking problem. So it's a conversation starter in my garden, and almost everyone of a certain age and past who smells it agrees with me. I've always wondered if the hybridizer of this rose named it Judy Garland for this reason. Unlike perfume makers, people who make roses by making hybrids from other roses can't make a rose smell an exact way, other than to blend two or more roses with the scent they want and hope for the best. I'm sure they must reject roses whose scents they don't like. Some rose breeders and rose buyers don't even want a scented rose, if you can imagine. Rose breeders are looking more for certain other characteristics in the whole plant, such as whether it will rebloom a lot, whether the color is one which will appeal to many people, what the form of each rose blossom will look like and whether it's what people who judge rose contests are looking for. Rose competitions are a whole other world rosequeen pays no attention to, but they are big business to rose breeders. Rose breeders breed new roses all the time and I'm sure not all of them hit the market. Over the years, I've seen the text on a few celebrity roses state that the celebrity personally chose this rose, implying the celebrity had it made to her or his specifications. But I think it's more likely the celebrity chose from a number of available new roses being offered. I have no idea how the Judy Garland rose was chosen for production, but I can say that the notes listed for the Judy Garland perfume do not match in any way how the Judy Garland rose smells. Not even the bourbon vanilla note.

It is fairly well documented that Judy Garland was known for wearing Carven's Ma Griffe. If that is the case, and the Judy fragrance was to be based on scents associated with Ms. Garland, where are the notes associated with the Carven fragrance? NO WHERE to be found! I would also add that the "nose" used to create it, doesn't have much of a resume. I will order a sample and test it, but am already disappointed with what I have seen and read....

Ok, pinkies crossed that I love this. Blind buy just happened through QVC. All of he notes sounded yummy and y'all didn't scare me away with your reviews. I'm between jobs so this is a big purchase for this girl.

@LANIER You clearly don’t know that her daughter Liza Minnelli is behind this brand and according to her, this is what her mother smells like. How’s that for your quote ‘sad cashing in on a name of great talent’?
