Into The Void

I finally bought this after repeated skin tests just to make sure I wasn't imagining things. Very few fragrances drive a strong positive emotional reaction after smelling on my skin. Bleu de Chanel is one. Aramis Aramis, YSL L'Homme, PDM Sedley, Nasomatto Duro and Mancera Red Tobacco are others. But surprisingly, JHAG Into The Void somehow pushes every happy button I have. And it's a calm happy. It's obviously niche and has a unique scent that might puzzle some, but if there was one perfume I own purely for me, Into The Void it is. I have a few others for compliments or the office. But on days when I just want to be totally comfortably in my own skin, I reach for this. I don't get some of the other rougher reactions on my skin, so it's always interesting how people respond to the same blend. For me, the licorice is soft and complex up front. The drydown into orchids lingers for a while in the mid and you have to wait many hours to get to the woods. Longevity is amazing. Probably better for winter. It's fall here in the land Downunder, so I'll have to wait for the summer verdict.

A narcotic and mysterious shape shifting semi synthetic woody Oriental, this is quite an evocative and unusual scent. The perfume opens with notes of licorice leading to a heart of orchid and tonka bean before very quickly settling into a dense powdery base of synthetic amber, papyrus, guaiac wood, patchouli and cedar. Unisex (slight feminine leaning) with moderate to strong sillage and good longevity. Some people may harken the initial vibe of the scent to fresh laundry smell, but give it a bit of time to start evolving, and it turns into a Black Afgano like thing. My favorite from the house of Juliette Has a Gun. Enjoy!

Wearing my sample and I'm not sure what to make of it. I do get sweetness, but not licorice per se. Almost irisy, but not iris. Lots of powder. Wood present, but not prominent. I don't see this one as particularly dark, just sweet and classic. EDIT: This one really grew on me through the dry down. It was so powdery, pleasantly sweet, with an earthy spice lingering from the licorice. I loved smelling this on my bed sheets as I fell asleep. EDIT 2: I bought a 90% full bottle since it was at such a good price. I'm really happy I did- I can't stop thinking about the powdery licorice and iris dry down.

This Is just what I wanted for Christmas this year. Something spicy, with a little bit of sweetness, but with woody and patchouli facets hovering around the background. But in this case, the wood and patchouli, along with the licorice seem to move back and forth throughout the fragrance. This must be the void aspect about the fragrance. just when you think one phase of this fragrance has come and gone. It comes back. This is a very good fragrance indeed. I am definitely getting a full bottle of this. Got several samples right now and will enjoy during the fall.

Oh my, I love, love, love this seductive, interesting, deep, dark fragrance! I ordered a sample as the price is ridiculous, but this does smell like a very expensive fragrance, so justified. I absolutely love the richness here. It is aniseed with complex vetiver and smothered floral undertones. Captivating! The sillage is just intense as is the longevity. The dry down on me is a woody, smooth scent. I cannot stop smelling my wrists. Maybe for my next birthday, I will request a full bottle of this. I absolutely adore this.

I love licorice, but this is an intense black licorice scent- which is a bit too strong in the opening. Once it dries down though....it's sooooo beautiful. The patchouli and cedar give it such a earthy & creamy warmth too. I really like it. Perfect for colder months. Definitely can't wear this now in the summer. I will have to get used to that opening though, oof. Update: A few months later (jan29) and I absolutely adore this. I can't believe I almost sold it! It's woodier and creamier than before. What a gem!

I love Into The Void, and I agree completely with MysticRoses's lovely review. It has definitely an aroma of oud to my nose, and the liquorice is very rich and deliciously boozy. It's gorgeous. It's divinely dark - a lovely dark mysterious void - with a beautiful wood and amber base. It's gorgeous. And I've received quite a few compliments, especially from my husband, who finds it very sexy and bewitching on me. It's deep, sensual, dark and exotic. I love it. And I adore the bottle.

A darkboozy and mysterious perfume... penetrates you in like a dark night with a dark sky. Modern and charismatic, i was immediately in love with it :) is well balanced. There is something sweet and floral in the distance I think the orchid, but also the tonka bean ... is fascinating. Takes you straight into the deep dark void. Once caught, there is no back. Its woody oriental and ambroxan gives it a special kick. Its luxury, sexy, seductive. I wear it day & night as with all my perfumes but its more night one. I find it smoky with some tonka sweetness in the background. If i wear it in the night i also wake up with it. Great longevity and heavy silage. 5/5

Sweet opening and i'm reminded of spices like in Serge Lutens Participe pase its go that same thick sweet candied spices. Rich, boozy, foody spices, black jelly beans maybe if anything but no straight up licorice to me. Slightly floral. I really liked it, something different for my collection.

This smells like a mix between the oudy/woody/cypriol (kinda scratchy woody), thickly, almost dankly sweet components of Nasomatto's Black Afgano, and a touch of the fizzy sweet iris/vanilla of Iris Ganache or Ombre Mercure. I'm diggin it, the name, the color, the scent. Kinda wishin I had a sample of Afgano still to do a sbs. Will try to report more insights but I definitely am intrigued by and like it a lot! [4.7.17] ETA: today it's more about the guaiac, which has a sourish wood tone to me that reminds me of (my favorite) skanky ouds, coupled with a creamy floral note ('orchid') and still that dryness of what they're calling papyrus. Much less scratchy to me today and I don't get the strong cedar some people do, and so far no licorice which ehhhh I'm not the biggest fan of so it should stand out if it's in here. I do get a 'fuel' (gasoline) note someone mentioned in a review on LuckScent, which is really intriguing and well done, whether on purpose or not. Really diggin it, decant wanted! Well, fb wanted but, that's more to have that beautiful bottle than to think I'd actually use it all ;)

An OK perfume, quite likeable when the licorice shows up. It has a slight similarity with Bvlgari's Jasmin Noir L' Essence, which I already own and definitely prefer over Into The Void. L'Essence has no patchouli and no papyrus (which does Into The Void no good, it makes it too impervious). Instead we have jasmin, almond, myrrhe and LOTS of tonka, creating a more wafty, creamy and deep perfume. ITV has that typical JHAG vibe (sharp/clean patchouli?), especially in the drydown, which makes it rather un-unique. Sillage: moderate Longevity: good

For anyone that has seen the movie ‘enter the void’ i was hoping this scent would be just as crazy. I wouldn’t call it that but this sure is interesting. I get smokey woods which blend with the liquorice and amber, creating something unique and wild. I also smell something a little skanky smelling in this like the smell of HOT skin. I think its sexy and alluring one of those scents thats hard to smell on yourself but leaves a trail behind you and people wondering what that intoxicating scent was.

So you just did your laundry, hung it, sat down and smoked a cigarette in the same room. Now the wet laundry has soaked up the cigarette smoke and you inhaled a piece of clothing – you smell Into the Void. It is strong, smoky, very detergent-like, a very fresh oriental scent. The base notes are true, the perfume dries down exactly how it is listed. It is also unisex. It is a good scent, but nothing too special.

Totally reminds me of Nishane Afrika-Oliphant. I feel like the resemblance comes from the overall dirty, powdery, elephant-at-the-zoo leather kind of vibe. I think I prefer Into the Void because it seems a bit more "wearable" to me. It's pretty cool, but definitely not for everybody. Certainly due for more wearings...

A beautiful dark scent, sharing some similarities with N Black Afghano, but most of all a carbon copy of LM Black Oud. It smells quite woody/incensy with a musky jasmine backbone, quite synthetic, but that's what we paid for here, afterall. Moderate performance. I got both LM Black Oud and this one for less than $100 (each), and would strongly suggest any of these two instead of the terribly overpriced BA. Good job, Juliette! Colder evenings, 25+

Probably the deepest, darkest, dirtiest, smokiest fragrance in my collection. I get no musk/ambroxan here whatsoever. I get burnt licorice, charred wood, and shredded week-old dark flowers. This is not for the faint of heart. 100% unisex if the orchid plays nice on your skin. Black magic in a bottle.

Wearing the sample now, first impressions. As others have said, laundry detergent, for sure; harsh, pungent, hard to wear. I have others samples waiting to be worn, and I am willing to bet ANY of them are better than this! It actually reminds me of "Dirty Flower Factory" by Kerosene, which was also harsh. And rather skanky, if you know what I mean. I need to go now and scrub this off.

so disappointed: I had high hopes for licorice, ambroxan patchouli, tonka, orchid, ... and all I got was burnt rubber with oud and sweat. It has to be my skin because the bottle came directly from JHAG. I own 3 JHAG perfumes which are filed under "love", this one unfortunately is labelled "dislike".

Heavy orchid opening makes this more feminine but the drydown is on the darker side. Even with the darkness the orchid has plenty of bite. Mostly woods and patchouli as I don't get any sweetness except from the orchid. Not bad but after 4 sprays from my sample I will pass it along.
