Not A Perfume

*This is my first ever fragrance review on here eeekkk!* I will start off by saying if you can't smell Juliette Has a G*n 'Not a Perfume', I do feel bad because in my opinion you are missing out on some GOOD juice. The initial spray/aroma of this fragrance is a little intense and a smidge animalistic (funky but in a very good way). but once it's been on you for about 2-3mins it's to die for. The best way I can describe it is like warm clean laundered clothes, comfortable and reliable. It makes me want to smell myself until I pass out. It truly DOES smell like nothing but in the loveliest way possible I feel like N.A.P. is the blueprint skin scent and nothing has topped it for me. This is my no brainer fragrance, if I just want to smell clean and be noticed by those within arm's length, or so of me. My favorite thing about this fragrance is that you'll smell it for the first like 10 mins and it'll be gone, but best believe you'll get whiff's of it throughout the day. I've smelt this on (2x) customer's at the checkout line and always compliment them, it's just such a beautiful fragrance to have in your collection it's just so ethereal. And it lasts too (cough, cough, glossier you line). I will wash my clothes and it will still LINGER when I take them out the dryer and this hasn't happened with any other fragrance except PDM Valaya (yuck). I've yet to smell Le Labo 'Another 13' but out of all the skin scents I've sampled this simply can't be topped in my opinion. Not A Perfume is also an amazing fragrance to layer with, it makes any perfume layered last and project longer and create a scent tailored to you. The bottle is also gorgeous and minimalist just like the scent, and the atomizer is to die for it sprays the perfect amount in the best way, this should be the standard atomizer for all fragrances. This is the first fragrance i've ever fell in love with. it was my mom's signature scent every time I smell this fragrance it reminds me of her, warm hugs, and comfort, ugh the memories (she's still alive though don't worry😭). NAP is a perfect signature scent for people of all ages and genders, it's inoffensive and can be worn to the work, dates, gym, events, etc. I will always have a bottle in my collection this perfume brings me comfort like none other. -also remember to be kind to others, and be the change you want to see in the world <3

I’ve worn a lot of so-called “skin scents” and Ambroxan-heavy fragrances and most of them eventually blur together. Not a Perfume is one of the few that still stands out for me. On first spray it’s quiet and clean, but within minutes something warmer and more personal emerges. There’s a soft sweetness and a faint, almost salty skin-like quality that reminds me of the pleasant scent left on your body after a fresh workout—clean, a little flushed, quietly attractive. It’s not dirty or overtly animalic; it’s just that particular kind of lived-in warmth that feels intimate rather than polished. Officially the fragrance is built around a single molecule, Cetalox. I’ve tried plenty of other Ambroxan-focused scents (Molecule 02, Glossier You, Le Labo Another 13, Clean Reserve Skin, and a few others), and while they share a similar clean-woody-musky DNA, none of them quite capture that same sweet, slightly sweaty skin effect that Not a Perfume has on me. Whether it’s the specific quality of the material, the concentration, or simply the way it reacts with my chemistry, the result feels more dimensional and human than most of its peers. It sits close to the skin with moderate longevity and projects just enough to be noticed by those nearby. I reach for it when I want something that feels like an enhanced version of myself rather than a statement. It’s become one of those bottles I quietly hope never gets discontinued.

I know this perfume is a bit of a point of contention for a lot of people, but I absolutely love it. To me, it’s so warm and cozy, while also mysterious and alluring. It’s minimalistic but blooms beautifully on the skin and is a true unisex scent. This would make an excellent signature if you have a very sensitive nose and want as little notes as possible or are the type of person who doesn’t want your perfume to evolve throughout the day (since its only note is cetalox). I love this and can appreciate that it’s more intimate and doesn’t smell like a traditional perfume. Definitely a “your skin but better scent” that would be fantastic for layering with other skin scents or whatever you want, really. It works really well for me, but I have heard that some people just cannot smell cetalox, so maybe not a safe blind buy. I would check to see if there are any physical locations where you can give it a test first (my local Sephora carries it and other scents from the brand), although I bought my sample blind. If you do test it, this is one you don’t want to test on a paper strip, but on your bare skin. I will absolutely be buying a full bottle when I get the chance!

Not a Perfume is simple, clean, and just a little sweet. A reliable skin-scent. It's hard to describe what exactly Not a Perfume smells like. To me - she smells vague. Like an ambiance instead of a direct scent. Sweet, not quite spicy but not quite powdery either. Not really a warm sweetness, nothing like vanilla. Not a Perfume smells bright and cold. But in a pretty way. Punchy in a way that paper or sandalwood might be, but much more gentle. Some noses will not be able to smell this at all, but thank god my nose loves this one. I have been wearing Not a Perfume for years and have repurchased it twice. I love it! It's inoffensive, so I often wear it to work where my coworkers have sensitive noses. You have to spray quite a bit to really get the full effect, and even then, it's still subtle. Pretty, but subtle. It does stick around longer than you'd expect for such a gentle scent, though. This is my mom's favorite perfume on me, she compliments it every single time I wear it.

I recently tried Juliette Has a Gun – Not a Perfume, and I have to say, it surprised me. The scent is very minimalistic, clean, and skin-like, almost as if it blends naturally with your body chemistry rather than sitting on top of it. It feels soft, subtle, and slightly musky, making it perfect for everyday wear or for people who prefer something understated. What really stood out to me is how similar it smells to Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue (2025 version for women). Both have that fresh, airy, and slightly woody-clean vibe, although Not a Perfume is more linear and less citrusy. It doesn’t have the bright lemon burst of Light Blue, but it gives off a very similar clean and effortless feeling. Longevity is decent, especially for such a light scent, and it tends to stay close to the skin, which I personally like. It’s not overpowering at all—in fact, it’s the kind of fragrance that people notice only when they’re close to you.

I really had no idea what to expect before I tried this but I was very pleasantly surprised! I think if you’re into very “perfume-y” or thick scents then this is probably not going to be for you. I personally love light, airy, and fresh scents that lean more subtle than overpowering so I really liked this. It does go on very faintly but it definitely comes to life throughout the day. I’ve seen people mention it smelling like your skin almost and I can definitely see that. I know that sounds kind of weird but I don’t really know how to really describe what that means - it just is very clean and pleasant. I think it’s safe to say it’s pretty inoffensive. The concept itself is so cool and it’s really fascinating to see how this shows up so uniquely on each individual.

A very simple and minimal fragrance. It is the quintessential clean fragrance for any collection if you want something that's not just the smell of clean laundry or floral. The only thing holding it back is that some people are anatomically incapable of smelling it, and it reacts extremely differently based on your skin chemistry, so find a retailer near you that has a tester and test it on skin. This a fragrance that should also never be tested on paper. Get it on your skin, see how it reacts and smells, and see if it is right for you. I absolutely love this one and have it in my collection as something I can throw on when I want to smell good but don't want to be overwhelming, or if I want to add a nice supporting layer to my fragrance of the day.

Absolutely love this one. I bought the test kit from JHAG and this was the one that excited me the least upon arrival and now is something I struggle to get out of my head. It is that perfume that feels like a special treat when I use it because it is just that good on me. 10/10 works magic on my skin, and if I ever want a twist on it or make it a bit more exciting I just layer lightly with a body mist or light perfume. Love, love, love but not a blind buy. A lot of people do not find this as magical as me and in that case it is just a fairly expensive perfume that gives very little and takes a decent chunk out of the wallet. To me though, this will be a future full bottle. Cannot imagine life without this option avaliable.

This is my first review only because this is getting a bad Rep. Please remember, perfumes smell different on everyone. Its subtle enough to wear to my restaurant job but wears for hours. It boosted my sea appeal to the point random men were complimenting it and my boyfriend growled when I got home from work, with it still on my neck. Its simple but low and almost imperceptible but the primal undertone gets noticed. It has the warm glow of pure desire and will actually make you purr while wearing it. It may be pricey but for over 3 oz (where many domestic only sell up to 2.5) its certainly not the worst I've seen. I will buy the full bottle soon and maybe the little one for my purse.

one of my favourite musky scents ever. very human slightly animalistic while still smelling clean, almost like deodorant on top of sweat. i’m glad it works beautifully with my skin chemistry and the longevity isn’t terrible. get a lot of compliments on it.. not sure if it’s full bottle worthy or just continuing to get smaller viles but i do like always having a bit on hand. i have noticed if i spray it at sephora i don’t smell it at all, which makes me wonder if maybe it loses strength after a while, which would seem odd considering most fragrances are the other way around.. maybe just too many smells in sephora to smell something so delicate.. not a blind but but i love her

i love this perfume more than anything in the world, but it develops differently on everyone. its ambery and musky yet very fresh but not powdery or squeaky clean, which i think is hard to come by. i have been told i have an intoxicating scent that had followed me since i first bought it 3 years ago. people have also constantly told me that i always smell good and to never change what purfume im wearing. but when i reccomended to my sister, it does not smell the same on her. it leans aldhedy and too clean. still i highly encourage you to try a sample of it and see how it wears on you.

I blind bought Not a Perfume on a store, at a great price. So, I decided to try it, and I do not regret it at all. This is one of my favorites of all time. It is simple, but yet unique. It goes perfect with my skin; it has this subtle clean citrusy scent that I cannot describe. Really a different one-of-a-kind fragrance. I do smell it. It does smell great. I do not overlay perfumes; I wear this alone. I would say it is more a spring/summer day/afternoon scent. But I could wear it at night and winter if I want to. It is harmless but intoxicating. It has become one of my favorites.

This is the cleanest, most pleasantly-fresh skin scent I have ever tried. I find on me it evolves into a clean laundry, fresh skin after a shower type of fragrance - the projection is surprisingly pretty great and the longevity is good too, lasting a good 6-8 hours on me. I got a tester of this with Powder Love, and I didn't expect to care for it at all but I have been completely pleasantly surprised by Not A Perfume. It's completely office appropriate, wearable year-round and great for layering too. I think this will be my next full-bottle purchase.

I really like this one! I've tried other perfumes that adapt to your skin and they have been really nauseating, but this is so settled and nice. On my skin (fresh from the shower) it is a powdery scent which I love, but also with a fresh note too? It is unique to me, but it is interesting; I got my mum to wear it and on her she had a very clean musky scent - which she loved too! It also lasts a long time, 5 hours later I can still smell it and on my mum, it lasted over a day! Would definitely recommend this to anyone.

I love this perfume so much. I love one of the comments below saying it smells like tv static, I totally get it. To me, it smells like if the scent of paper were made into a cologne. It’s not light like a perfume, in my personal opinion. It’s definitely unisex, but I’d say it leans more serious/masculine. I love the scent for men, it’s like the freshest, most subtle but still there cologne. I like it on myself too, for any occasion.

These molecule perfumes work better when they’re not sprayed in a concentrated jet close to the skin. Hold the bottle or sample farther away or mist yourself and walk through. I find that spraying too close is what leads to those horrible cleaning product/ intense animalic notes. Not a Perfume becomes heavenly—a soft, powdery, slightly floral white musk—when sprayed with a lighter hand. I hope this helps someone enjoy this scent!

Like the person below me says: it smells like an empty room after repairs. Like paper being laser-printed. For me personally it has no sweetness, no freshness, no skin... But I absolutely love that ❤️ Unlike some other reviewers I don't layer it at all though. I tend to strongly dislike ambroxan in other perfumes bc it makes everything else smell synthetic and screechy. But on its own it's... just its own thing.

I was very pleasantly surprised by this wonderful scent: it smells sooooo amazing on my skin! Definitely get the woody from it (I'm an Oriental Woody girly) mixed with very subtle floral and just smidgen of powder (which I adore). It smells fresh, clean, feminine, a little sweet, and mysteriously deep on me if that makes sense - and because of this - I'm buying a bottle of Not a Perfume Superdose. lol :D

Have you ever had a flu so bad every smell makes you dizzy? I did. The only scent I was able to tolerate that time is JHAG NAP. This perfume got me into the molecular skin-scent perfume craze. I will always have one in my perfume cabinet but I use it less these days. A secret I will share is I layer this with Diptyque Tam Dao and I swear people go feral for that combo. Try it if you have both perfumes :)

My favorite daily fragrance. It's warm and musky, but not in a masculine way. It starts out woody and spicy, but as it dries down on your skin it smells warm, dry, and comforting, but with a slight dusty smell. It smells like 'the backrooms' in the best way. Wallpaper, warm lightbulbs, dusty carpet. but make it kinda girly. It really changes while on the skin so probably smells different on everyone

This was a cold/blind purchase; I didn't even check the reviews. This is truly "not a perfume"; you do not "wear" this scent, it is rather a fleeting memory a part of you; it is you. It's something you can't capture, or name. You don't know how to describe what it is or what it becomes. It's as ellusive as a dream. It becomes you. Very pleasant, somewhat cozy; it will remind you of who you are.

Surprisingly goooood. Very versatile scent. On my skin, it smells like powdery, woody and a tiny hint of citrus (balsamic?) and That's it. Like you just out of a shower and put on a fresh clean clothes. Same vibes with Glossier but less iris and powdery. Longevity 10+ hours on me just in a skin scent way. I can lightly smell it after I shower on the next day where I spray it.

This fragrance is heavily dependent on both your nose and your body chemistry. Some may say it has no scent on/to them. However, on me, Juliette is sweet, musky, and ambery with a lot of projection and longevity. It's unique to every individual which is my absolute favorite part about it! It is also amazing for layering! Any scent I pair with Juliette gets extradosed!

I can't understand why people keep saying it has no scent and they could smell almost nothing. On me, Not a Perfume is so loud that it's impossible to miss. It's hard to describe it - it's like breathing oxygen with every cell of your body. For me it's gorgeous - exactly what the description says - "minimalist, elegant, pur". I'd add "classy" - less is more.

This is such a light and gentle skin scent, genuinely I think can be used at any time and would work with most perfumes if you just want a natural skin scent. I think it's supposed to show up slightly different on people but the soft clean notes (that reminds me a little bit of jasmine) I believe would carry on most people

I absolutely love this fragrance! Maybe it just works well with my skin chem. It gives off a clean, slightly sweet floral scent that’s slightly creamy and musky. I don't care if people around me can’t smell it, I can smell it on me all day. It’s so comfy and cozy. It’s one of the perfumes I plan to get a backup of.

Can never go wrong with this scent. I wore it non stop when was younger, but then the cap started leaking and the leaking perfume started turning yellow and it was just making a whole mess. This perfume is like a giant hug to me whenever I smell it on someone. You can tell 100% they are using JHAG.

Cool girl in her boyfriend jeans and white t shirt and shades as she makes her way through the city...this is the vibe of this perfume. Very clean. Very just showered. Not cloying or overpowering. Great for summer and spring. Does not last all day, will need reapplying after 4 or so hours.

On a hot humid summer day, this smells SO salty on my skin, which I loooove. I'm going to try layering this with other summer fragance. I don't enjoy it as an evening scent. Smells like sweat after fun in the sun (in a good way), of which I'd want to shower off before getting into bed.

if the guggenheim had a scent, it would be this. very unique papery, dry, single molecule scent. does not smell like "nothing" or musk. same scent family as the ambroxan in noyz only human. unisex. sadly lacks projection and can be hard to smell at times.

Perfect skin scent, does not smell like perfume at all but it's an addicting scent and it lasts very long on my skin - I sprayed it on my wrist in the evening after bath and could still smell it the next day when I was getting ready to bed. 10/10!

I absolutely love this, way better than another 13 imo, its slightly sweet and very long lasting, i spray it also on my forearm's so i can smell it througout the day...absolutely perfect, its really unisex and year around fragrance

Literally smells like a nostalgic feeling. Like getting a comforting hug from a loved one. A memory you want to relive but never can again. One of the most interesting experiences I have ever had smelling this for the first time.

at first it’s almost invisible but over time it warms up into something quiet and personal. this is a scent you don’t immediately notice as it lingers on the skin (no projection at all) which makes it feel incredibly intimate.

Once someone gifted it to me. Since 2021 I come back to this perfume every single week. I adore to combine it with L’eau Papier by Dyptique or Soleil Neige by Tom Ford.

It is a sweet floral (orange blossom) smell on my skin. Smells like a great Khiels shower gel that is discontinued (the orange blossom one). Skin scent level sillage.

Magnificent. There is so much beauty in the simplicity of this perfume. To me, it is warm and comforting and I won't ever be without a bottle.

I feel bad for people who can't smell this

Sometimes less is more. And sometimes less is just... less. Not A Perfume is built around one single molecule: Cetalox, a synthetic version of ambergris. No florals, no fruits, no vanilla drama. Just clean, musky, slightly woody warmth. On the skin, it smells incredibly clean. Minimal. Almost airy. It’s that “fresh-out-of-the-shower but your skin naturally smells expensive” vibe. Many people describe it as “your skin, but better,” and I understand why. It doesn’t feel like you’re wearing perfume; it feels like your aura smells good. Projection is soft. This is not a room-filler. People won’t smell you from across the room. It’s more intimate when someone sitting next to you, hugging you, or lying next to you will notice it. From a distance of a meter? Probably not. Longevity on my skin is moderate at best, around 3 to 6 hours before it fades into something very subtle. You may need to reapply throughout the day if you want to keep that clean presence alive. It’s completely unisex. Maybe slightly marketed towards women, but honestly? It works beautifully on men too, especially if you prefer subtle, understated fragrances over bold statements. Season-wise, this works year-round. It shines in spring and summer, but I also understand wearing it on a cold winter day when you just want something simple, comforting, and non-invasive. Price-wise, it sits in the middle. Not cheap, not outrageously expensive. Is it worth it? That depends. If you’re looking for a strong, distinctive scent that gets you noticed, absolutely not. If you want something clean, easy, and effortless, then yes, it makes sense. Rating: 6.5/10

During the pandemic, I got pulled into the whirlpool of buying and selling second-hand things online and oh boy, was I in for a treat. Back then, I wasn’t really into fragrances and didn’t know a thing about expensive designer perfumes. The only one I had was Prada Candy Florale, a gift from my dad and brother. Everything else I owned was also gifted here and there. One day, while browsing, I came across this white opaque bottle with a peculiar name priced at 100 TL (about €12.00 back then). Out of pure curiosity, I bought it. The seller, a very kind woman, told me, “This was a gift from a guest, and I honestly couldn’t tell if it smelled good or bad, so I decided to sell it while decluttering.” The bottle arrived; still fairly full. From the very first whiff, I was in awe. It smelled like sterile, perfectly clean laundry, freshly pressed with an extremely hot iron. The kind of crispness that feels almost dangerous, like the fabric could give you paper cuts if you weren’t careful. That scent was my baby brother. A commercial airline pilot, always sharp, always immaculate. I had never even heard of ambroxan back then, but now I know that razor-clean, almost metallic (yet so very warm) freshness? That was it. When I took the bottle with me on a visit home, I didn’t have to say a word. The moment he hugged me, he pulled back and asked what I was wearing. ...and asked for the bottle. And just like that, it became our thing. Now we gift each other Juliette Has a Gun fragrances and products back and forth; our own little expensive tradition. I still think about that woman sometimes. I’d love to thank her.

I love it!!! I’ve worn it every day for a year and I’ve gotten bored of it, but now even thinking about it I want to spray it on myself. The smell will last for days on the clothes I’ve sprayed it on. I’ve never gotten more compliments on my scent than with this perfume. People tell me they can smell me before they can see me and seriously, I can’t emphasize the compliments enough. It makes me feel so sexy. I remember when I first bought it the girl at Sephora recommended it to me. I thought it smelled like chemicals and I turned it down and bought Pear Inc. Then when I was in my car I kept smelling this intoxicating smell, and I realized it was my wrist. I ended up calling the store to tell the girl I was so wrong and she was actually really relieved because she had thought it would be perfect for me and she was worried she had bad taste. I ordered it that night.

no clue how to describe this other than by saying that it smells intimate. not like sex, not like sweat or breath, but like.. the scent that appears after taking a super deep nap all cuddled up with a partner. like accidentally falling asleep together at 1pm and waking up at 6pm all disoriented and thirsty. like unruly bedhead, lines from the wrinkled pillow case pressed into your face, sheets still damp from the warmth of your skin against their skin. not dirty and not overly clean, just smells like a comfortable human. cozy, but not in a weather-based way, more in the sense of closeness and comfort. kinda sweet, but mostly skin. this is the scent my synesthesia imagines when i think about the soft spot on babies' heads. odd, but i've seriously only smelled something similar after taking long naps with loved ones. no other real way to explain it !
