Amarosé

Amarosé is the rose perfume I've been dreaming of. Rose always makes me worry a fragrance will be a granny scented powder bomb, but not this one. Sillage is great for the first couple hours and then it rests warmly and intimately on the skin for the remainder of the day, this fragrance has at least 10 hours of staying power. Both occasions I've worn my sample so far have been during the day but a dizzying incense forward scent like this is perfect for night time wear as well. Slightly (inoffensively) animalic and a little sticky sweet smelling. This fragrance is sooooo sexy and alluring, it makes you feel like you're standing at the alter of Aphrodite. Justin has an amazing nose for beautifully interesting smells and I send all of my friends to Mack N Gnosh whenever they want to smell sexy and expensive. Updating my review 02/17/23: I applied this on Valentine's Day to smell like a gorgeous rose bouquet, noticed my sample was running low and genuinely had an anxiety attack over the thought of running out. Went and ordered a full size as I was walking to my car to head into work that day. Probably my favorite from the premier collection. I cannot sing the praises of this perfume house enough.

I love this. It actually smells more like Portrait of a Lady on me but w/o all the stuffiness. It starts out thick and honeyed, and then the rose comes out with the incense and spice behind it. It’s smooth, sexy, and deceptively versatile. For the price point , honestly its kind of a steal.

A very luxurious, deep sexy rose. I own and love Delina and Delina Exclusif. If those feel more feminine and sensual, this one feels more femme fatale and sultry. A statement maker with a coy, inviting smile.

I feel like I am always on a quest for a “perfect” rose perfume - something sexier and fresher than rose-based florals, something new. I try everything - Tea Rose, Rose 31, Eau Rose, Rose Jam, Idole, Rose Prick, etc, etc (it is not a coincidence that my middle name is Rose and therefore I feel I MUST have this PERFECT rose scent). One thing in common among my favorite rose scents is that rose is not only the dominant note, but the only floral. Once you add other flowers, rose loses a lot of its appeal, to me. This barely has any jasmine - I can kind of feel it in the background, but not primarily. So this checks that box. Amarosé does have the fruity accompaniments that would make a “jammy rose” - the blackcurrant is there and so is vanilla - but it does not read as a jammy or fruity scent at all on my skin. Those jammy notes are there to round out the rose, and they’re detectable, but it mostly feels to me like a particularly sweet and rich rose/tonka/oud. I do wonder why he called it Amarosé, which conjures up rosé, and not just Amarose. I’m not sure I get much in here that makes me think “rosé”, and my wine palette is not sophisticated enough to really “get” the Amarone origins of this scent. In general it checks all my boxes - it’s a great rose fragrance, probably my favorite I’ve tried in a long time! But it’s almost so well executed that I keep hoping for a bit of weirdness or something “off” about it. I do think as I wear it more (I’ve only done one 8-hour wear test) I’ll pick up more oud and that is definitely an interesting addition to the base. I think I keep comparing it to VSOP, which is SO special, so I am having trouble seeing Amarosé for its own merits. It’s great. I’ll keep wearing my sample. Not sure if I’m ready to buy the bottle yet!

I’m a sucker for a good Rose & Oud, and this is one hits the mark and then some. The honey, black currant & patchouli bring it further into the woods in a mysterious yet comforting fashion. Truly love this❣️
