Norwegian Wood

The only wood I think of when I think of Scandinavia is pine but this is distinctly sandalwoody. And quite lovely. It’s been six months since I got this and maybe it’s my imagination but it seems to have really improved and has gone from a like to a love. Norwegian Wood might be inexpensive but definitely does not smell “cheap” or overly artificial - the exact opposite in fact - natural and beautifully sandalwoody. If you blind tested any fragrance aficionado unfamiliar with Norwegian Wood, I guarantee they would never, ever, guess that this is a “cheapie”. It smells almost niche quality and actually has a vaguely buttery, resinous thing going on that reminiscent of Cartier Pasha Parfum. Performs best in Winter with longevity around 3-6 hours, sitting close after the first two. Norwegian Wood is not bad at all - in my mind’s eye I could see a pimply adolescent rocking this for a hot date at a shopping mall. Seriously though, this would be a great after gym/sport fragrance for a teenager. Smells clean, natural and not “perfumey”. A very pleasant, unpretentious fragrance that smells a lot more expensive. The drydown is quite lovely: reminiscent of a resinous Indian sandalwood. If you’re in the market for a budget fragrance it’s excellent value for money.

Appearance The cheapness of the bottle is incredible, it’s embarrassingly cheap, it looks like it should be a mustard jar. This def does not belong on your display shelf. I think this alone is why so many people rate it low. Smell But this does smell nice and doesn’t smell cheap, cheap in the sense of synthetic dollar store frags. It’s a light and airy woody scent with some noticeable lavender in the opening then after an hour or so the vanilla and slight incense come out. The lavender disappears quickly and It smells something like the Shalimar edp dry down, due to the powdery woody vanilla and incense vide. It’s completely unisex. Performance It lasts well enough, but it seems to be an intimate scent after an hour, maybe if you spray heavy, 10+ sprays, then you’ll get decent projection. This is worth getting, the price is unbeatable. I really like this one. The smell is great, unless you only like ambroxan heavy blue bottle freshies etc. then you might not appreciate it.

This is straight up wood with a little vanilla sprinkled on top. You're not going to go on a fragrance journey with this, you're going to flat out smell like a woodshop beginning to end. Personally I really like it however longevity is an issue for me. Next time I will go from 4 to 6 sprays and see what that does. Update: After 8 hours with 5 sprays it was a fairly strong skin scent on me. I think that 6-8 sprays will probably give a solid 7-8 hours performance without being overpowering and a couple more as a s good skin scent. Also the atomizer on this isn't the greatest.

I picked this one up at ROSS for 6.99 + tax. 3.3 oz bottle. Sprayed some on my arm as soon as I got in the car and was blown away by the sophistication of this scent. It's supposed to be all woods, and I suppose it is. I smell lots of sandalwood--my favorite! It's very masculine, warm and woody, and so far I really like it. I remember wearing the original Kanøn way back in the 70's and it was quite good, too. You could do far worse for your $7 than this. Cheaper than lunch and lasts a whole lot longer. Thumbs up, guys.

I know most reviews of Norwegian Wood across the internet are pretty horrible, but when my boyfriend wore this it was simply magic. It must have been his skin/body chemistry because it never, ever smelled cheap or offensive. It was a very unique is its woodsy warm charm (albeit very loud if he wore too much). It didn't remind me of any dollar store body sprays. It had rare notes I'd never experienced before and trust me I'm a huge snob when it comes to cologne. I say yes to this one for sure.

Delightfully sharp and woody in its opening, this fragrance is well worth the minuscule amount for which it can be bought. I paid $6.99 at either Kohl's or Ross for this wonderful gem' while visiting the US. There is a slight greenness to this one which is not reflected in the notes, possibly due to the combination of moss, citrus and whatever synthetic woody aromachemicals are used. For some reason it reminds me of a woody version of Absynthe pour homme by Avon.

Blind buy and cheap from Marshall's and glad I did. This is some good stuff. Extremely long lasting, I could still 11 hours later smell it on my arm. I mostly get the base notes, sandalwood, cedar, and vanilla, and very little of the head and heart. Either way I am OK with that since this combo smells very nice together. If you see it and can get it cheap I would jump on it. Lasts better than some of the stuff that costs 200 dollars for sure!

This smells better than anything else my husband has & he has many expensive fragrances. I'm not exactly sure how to describe it but it's so warm & welcoming. Much better than anything aquatic or fresh. Reminds me of welcoming vanilla & woodsy

Norwegian Wood is pretty decent juice on it's own for what it is and how much you pay. Since it is more or less straight up Sandalwood and Woody Notes I have been layering it with other fragrances with some pretty good success

I love this fragrance. It smells natural. The sandalwood is the prominent note to me. I have mixed it with Brooks Brothers Gentleman for the violet and Gucci II for the tea. The three make a gorgeous combination.

Poor one's Gucci Envy. I saw the comparison here and had to check. Upon first blush it is quite similar to Gucci Envy. Get it for 10 bucks. Save $150, really. Yes miss, this is Gucci Envy. Thanks for asking.

Excellent fragrance for anytime lasts and lasts on me not complex it's wood sandle wood soap with shaving powder almost beautiful love it

Kanon Norwegian Wood was another scent that I recently retired to the offseason shelf and cabinet. It is a bit like a Taco Bell grilled breakfast burrito. Despite the European name, Norwegian Wood is a First American Brands product. This company has 24 fragrance brands in its portfolio and usually sells budget scents. Other American companies such as 5 star fragrances have proven that they can sell first rate fragrances in the under the $20 price range as they do not have to pay steep import taxes and tariffs that jack up the prices of most fragrance products. Norwegian Wood has some synthetic in it and its opening has a bit of an antifreeze smell. However after about 20 minutes this starts to die down and you get a very good Woody scent that would easily be comparable to very good and very expensive wood based scents. The wood notes seem rich, fresh cut, and expensive with the vanilla giving it just a nice touch of creamy sweet and barely a hint of citrus and florals to brighten things up a bit. Because of other reviews on this forum. I pulled my old bottle of Gucci Envy out and compared them. Clearly they are both sandalwood fragrances. The Gucci seemed sweeter with more of a green fresh cut wood and the Norwegian Wood seemed older and drier as if it had been dried and aged for kindling. Gucci Envy is a better product but I sort of like the sawdust edge of Norwegian Wood and it sort of hangs in there and says hi. I suppose the Gucci could sneer a bit at Norwegian Wood but the Kanon would knock it in the teeth when you went to price a brand new full bottle of each. Gucci is not as good as its price tag anymore and the Kanon is better than its own. Performance is adequate to poor even for a budget scent. I like budget scents to give me 6 hours and with Norwegian Wood the first 45 minutes is synthetic, and poor as the synthetics overwhelm the fragrance. Then the fragrance settles into its sweet spot and the woods come out and they are lovely, creamy, elegant, and beautiful for about 2 hours after which the scent starts to slope downwards and becomes a skin scent at the 4 hour mark and is gone by 6. Id say the sweet spot of the heart of this fragrance is 4 hours. I dislike the opening and the drydown clocked out early. Many fragrances use Sandalwood as a base note and this one doesnt hide it behind tops or mids. I guess that when you pass go and bring Sandalwood right to the heart of the fragrance that you have forsaken the opening and mid and gone straight to base. And it oddly seems to work. But without an opening or mid you don't get a long lasting fragrance. My usage of Norwegian Wood has been strong. It probably was my most worn scent this past fall and also the fall before and I wore it a few times during winter. For whatever reason, this seems to be a magic bottle where even though I have used it many times, the bottle seems to stay almost full. I think the sprayer pushes out less juice and I under apply it because of the initial synthetics which irritate my nose. I did buy a backup bottle of it and also the other 5 products in the Kanon line. After I use up the Kanon that I have I will most likely not replace them. The bottles of Kanon come with real wood tops, look nice and are collectible for those that care about collecting bottles. Overall, I am going to grade this one out at 73 and knocking on the door of average. You can easily buy this one in the $10 range or $3 an ounce and you could probably find it for half the price if you would look. I think the backup bottle that I bought was less money than you could spend on a 1.5 ml sample of niche. I gave this fragrance maximum points for value. And I hammered it down hard for its opening and lack of base and non existent drydown. Men seem to like this fragrance and give it a bit of lumberjack thumbs up. And women give it smiles as well. I have received compliments from both and even my Dad likes it and thats rare. The compliments aren't glorious raise your eyes to the heavens and gushing praise type things. But rather normal you smell nice today comments. This really does not surprise me because once you get past the synthetic opening, the heart settles into a wonderful woody scent that smells as good as bottles that cost hundreds more per ounce than this one does. Its not complex, takes you on a journey, or does anything fancy; And its not big, bold, or loud. But it is Sandalwood and Sandalwood is a nice note and scent and this one smells good at its heart. This like Thallium Sport is the type of scent that is a bit of a dumb reach in that you can put it on and by the time you arrive where you want to be, it is in the sweet spot of its scent life. I think that for about 4 hours, I am smelling about $100 per ounce better than I spent. I like sandalwood fragrances but exportation of mysore sandalwood and the essential oils from it have been banned from India. And Australian Sandalwood production and supply is inferior to demand. I could run my mouth about some major league big league woody scents that have become rare and expensive after they were discontinued but it doesnt matter for the purpose of this review. Norwegian Wood has a horrible synthetic opening. However, the opening soon goes away and it settles nicely into a lovely, creamy, crisp, hint of brightness, very woody manly sawdust cut sandalwood for a brief 4 hours and then it fades fast and is gone. For a $3 per ounce scent to smell a $100 better than its price tag for 4 brief hours is an accomplishment. I own my fair share of scents and decants and I am not going to run out so I do not worry much about needing to apply more or switch to something different later on. I suppose there are people that wake up and put on Roja Dove to walk to the shower. Im not one of them. I like having some budget scents around me that are decent and do a nice job and keep me from looking at Green Bottles of Envy that would be near impossible to replace should they empty. And I do not think I have ever as a grown man ever had breakfast in bed. There are probably people that will read this that at least act like butlers bring them crumpets each morning. Sometimes, I drive over to Taco Bell and get a breakfast burrito. I admit it. Sure the service is bad and slow and sometimes you have to wait 15 minutes in the drive through. But those burritos are pretty good, affordable, and worth the wait.

Like many others, I bought this blind because it was inexpensive. I confess that I don't scent myself everyday, though I seem to be changing that habit. I hadn't really used this much until recently and had branded it as "inoffensive and decent, but not stunning" after a few trials. Let me say that I've changed my mind a bit. It's a somewhat obvious fragrance with a nicely balanced sandalwood heft in the base and some gentle augmentation of cedar, and lavender. The vetiver is present, but not enough to hijack the profile. I only get vague hints of vanilla, but it becomes the barest hint of caramel deep in the drydown. Someone said that this doesn't feel like a finished fragrance, but I have to disagree. The citrus in the head isn't as volatile or bright as I like and a bit obvious, but I think perhaps the worth of this scent lives in the heart and base. My bottle is older, from 2010, but I don't think the juice has altered in the bottle. I didn't have any desire to put this back into rotation until the weather cooled off a bit more. I'm not sure that I like this as a spring or summer scent, but it works well for fall and is inexpensive enough that you can be generous or reapply without any guilt. I'm glad that it found it's way back onto the shelf instead of the armoire drawer...

Welp.. I bought this ultra-$6.99 cheap at Ross purely for the name. I figured even if it's utter crap I was amused by the Rubber Soul whimsy. A pleasant surprise was had.. I like it..quite a bit. I'm a total sucker for sandalwood ..which is mostly what I get with a enjoyable sweetness arriving a bit later.. yeah it's got nothing to woo a snobbish Fraggie ( the scent equivalent of a Foodie ) but I've always been happy to let the good times roll wherever they appear.. I especially like it for work.. I do security for a mega-huge,mega-paranoid tech company and the Wood just settles in and feels right at home with my uniform.. giving me a warm woody glow through those graveyard shift hours.. on a pop culture note.. " Norwegian Wood " is one of the great mystery songs.. did they have sex or not?..did he burn the furniture?or the whole house the next morning?..the other great mystery is,of course, " Ode To Billy Joe "..what the hell got thrown into that damn river? ( besides Billy Joe)..and WHY?.. that makes me want to find a fragrance that Billy Joe McAllister might have worn..any ideas?

This fragrance is hard to describe in the best way. It opens with a slightly charred wood note—smoky, dry, almost campfire-adjacent—but not harsh or acrid. Beneath that, there’s a soft creaminess that sneaks in, followed by a subtle touch of vanilla and a faint citrus brightness that keeps it from feeling too heavy. What really makes this scent special is the dry-down. That’s where the magic happens. The smoke softens, the wood becomes smoother and warmer, and everything settles into something quietly beautiful and a little addictive. It’s not the strongest in terms of longevity, but while it’s on the skin, it’s captivating. I do miss when this was priced around $14.99—especially now that it’s discontinued—but I’m glad I stocked up when I did. Norwegian Wood is an odd fragrance, slightly unconventional, but genuinely beautiful. Even with that hint of burnt wood, it just works. Sometimes “it smells good” really is the most honest description.

Me voy a referir a Kanon Agarwood, el cual aun no esta registrado aqui. Ayer recibi la botella, fue una compra a ciegas despues de leer algunos comentarios positivos en Basenotes, etc, tambien habian muchos negativos, pero como saben, uno siempre quiere probar y como no es cara. La use ayer y la estoy usando ahora y dejenme decirles que es la fragancia mas mala (pesima, horrible) que jamas haya tenido, huele tan sintetica, la longevidad es alta y la proyeccion media, gracias a Dios, porque me da dolor de cabeza, no se puede percibir ningun olor agradable en ella, la compre porque soy fan del oud, pero el que le puso ese nombre a esta fragancia, nunca debe haber olido aceite oud o incienso o lo que sea. La botella y la caja estan bien diseñadas. Muy arrepentido de esta compra, por suerte solo gaste el ella $ 13.00, creo que la regalare muy pronto. Mi calificacion es de -10/10 = 0

I bought this blind at my local TJMaxx for $7. It is a very comforting woodsy smell. I have been spraying onto my hubby before bed because as we snuggle up, and can smell it, and I just find it very soothing. Of course, the weather has been cooler, and we've been sleeping with the windows open. We put the heavier blanket on the bed, and we fall asleep listening to the crickets and frogs/toads in the marsh singing at night. This scent takes me to one of our favorite hobbies, which is camping. It's damp, and then it's dry. It's mossy, and then it's a warm. It seems to change a bit back and forth on him, and I like it. It does not have really good sillage, but it's longevity seems pretty good.

Yes, it's good; yes, you are all good my to-the-point splash of the day - clean, with diamond clear dew drops on your wooden crown, interesting in your woody duality - artfully combining your aromatic cedar/fir nature with the sugary mapleness, quite lickable at the drydown which seems to go on forever, and doesn't want to evaporate, like those mists and fogs over the fjiords cutting deeply into the heart of your home in the norwegian rain forests. "And when I awoke, I was alone;the bird has flown So I lit a fire; isn't it good Norwegian Wood?"

Good for a very cheap price. I payed $7 fror 3.3 oz at tjmaxx yesterday and have been wearing it since. It smells very much like amber/vanilla/sandalwood all soaked in cream soda. It's a soft sweet smell and is innoffensive. The longevity is ok, I get about 3-4 hours on my skin and about 8-10 on my clothes. The projection is good for like 30 minutes, then it's very close to the skin. You can try to put more on, but it's a waste of time and juice. Settle for a subtle scent. If you can get someone close in, like a hug or close quarter conversation, then you'll be noticed, but not just by standing in a room. Overall a good buy for sure.

Huge sandalwood and other "woodiness" that I can't pin down. I get the base and mid notes, but not the top notes of citrus. Never happened. I enjoy this more as it grows on me. I can tell you that I sprayed about five times thinking it was light and woke up the next morning still smelling it. So, I somehow got about 19 hours out of it. It wasn't really projecting, but it was still there on my skin. In the Florida heat this totally surprised me. I like it. Like others, I picked it up at ROSS for $10. You can use it as a universal cleaner or anything else you want for that price.

Not sure what compelled me to try this at TJ Maxx but I did and although it's not exceptional it's quite nice for a $6.99 cheapie! I ended up buying a bottle and am pretty pleased with it. Once you get past the opening alcoholic blast it's a pretty straightforward sandalwood...powdery and dry with a delicate vanilla sweetness, light spicy-peppery incense, and a floral-aldehydic accord of lavender with some violet maybe. It settles close to the skin and has a pretty soft presence but hey- for a sandalwood fan like me and for only $7- I like it. Good for layering too!

Very linear synthetic sandalwood and subtle vanilla scent. Longevity is acceptable for the price (5-6 hrs) with low projection and sillage. This means, it's ideal for layering as mentioned many times below. And that is exactly how I am using it when going out. So far I liked it a lot when layered with Quorum Silver, CdG Wonderoud, Encre Noire, Bentley Absolute and even Nautica Voyage. Norwegian Wood is so versatile to be used for layering! Whatever you want to bring some sweet creamy woodiness, just go for it.

This is a simple fragrance for a simple price. It is basically sligtly sweet, clean sandalwood. The other notes aren't prominent but they just ensure that this fragrance is not a 100% sandalwwod smell. Longevity is 3-4 hours. Great for a cool summer night of a fall day. This does smell good but it is very simple and would work great layered. I did receive a compliment from this so it will not offend even if you overspray. For $7 this is a no brainer. Much better than an Axe Body Spray for the same price.

Seems like this one is really making the rounds at the local Ross... $7 is a cheap price though to try a new scent. The sandalwood is the main note with it, and it's very pleasant. The only issue is the longevity, which is pretty much nil... I did two squirts on my wrist in the morning and within an hour it was already faded to nothing. Worth the price, though. It's good to have a scent that is subtle over time, especially in work environments with people that are sensitive to smells.

"Poor man"'s Eau des Baux? First 5 minutes is disappointing but the synthetic notes dissipate pretty quickly leaving a satisfying woodsy/sandalwood scent resting on a vanilla and incense base. OK for the price but B&BW Mahogany Woods is much better.

I smell the sandalwood and other woody notes. This is an easy to use fragrance by itself but is also great for layering. Quite cheap but doesn't necessarily smell like it. Tends to last longer on my skin when mixed with another perfume.

I have never smelled Envy but I like this enough for it to be room spray. I get tons of sandalwood and musk It's a very pleasant scent but as mentioned has poor performance. Then again what do you expect for 10 bucks?

What I was going to say: An odd, unlikeable cologne. I can't in good conscience recommend this, and can't convince myself to like it. I bought it because it was dirt cheap and I thought it may have some sort of origin in Norway, but I am not sure about that. What I say now: I have had a ton of fun collecting well over 50 colognes in two months. Much of the fun (and I recommend this) has been to dowse myself liberally in cologne, trying many over and over, and letting the scents overpower me. It can really help kick one out of a depression. I don't do this with every cologne, but I have been liberal with most at times, and am precious with none. I was a bit annoyed recently when I bought Adventure by Davidoff and found I was really not that crazy about it, and possibly disliked it just a bit. Then one day I realized I should try just a tiny bit (like a normal person), and judge it by its subtlety. It was fine. It is pleasant if you only use a small amount, and more so if you use less. Like many people do. Norwegian Wood is the same way. I just tried it again now. If you want a nice, pleasant and subtle woody cologne, try Norwegian Wood by Kanón (owned by Coty, who also owns the fragrance brands Aspen, Joop, Davidoff, Burberry, Lacoste, Boss, Calvin Klein and others). You may find you like it, and it's nice to get familiar with lots of colognes that can be had for almost nothing. We don't all have to have $140, $250, $600 bottles of colognes cluttering our shelves. You may have great taste, and you may have lots of money -- nothing wrong with either -- but don't confuse the latter with the former.

middle25, below me, says that it doesn't smeall cheap. I would have to differ on that subjectivity. This scent is something straight out of the old 70s Avon catalog. It smells cheap. It responds cheap, It lasts like a cheapy. And it turns into a cheap smelling children's cologne toward the end. Why three stars, instead of one? Well, the price is unbeatable, and it is not a bad scent. It's simply worth what they charge and nothing more. Good for after shower or casual around-the-house wear. It, most definitely, will NOT increase your chances of picking up the finest woman in the room, not even the second, or the third, for that matter.

I Still Have Half of a 100ml Bottle of Original Gucci Envy. and also a 150ml Massage Oil. and frankly, i don't undrestand how Kanon Norwegian Wood can be Compared to it. the only thing which these two have in common is the Woodiness. it's not a Poor Mans Gucci Envy. if anything it's woodiness is more reminding me of 51.3N by Alfred Dunhill with the latter having Sweeter Rhubarb note. Norwegian Wood on the other hand has a very strong and interesting ehco of... Turmeric, which fades away during the first 15-20 Minutes. after that it stays mostly as faint Sandalwood scent that sits close to the skin with minimal projection. i guess in this case, what you get is slightly more than what you pay. a nicely matching fragrance to the bottle's wooden Cap, sniffing the Cap and comparing it's natural fragrance to that of the cologne shows that the scents are of matching nature. as for it's Longevity, it's on the Longer side, of 7-10 Hours range. for it's price Norwegian wood is a useful for casual daily activities. it won't disturb any one either nor draw attention.

I bought this on impulse buy from "Ross" dept.store,not even testing it out. I was a little dissapointed in that I don't like it a whole lot. I bought it cause it had the name "Norwegian" in it,which is part of my heritage. I thought with that name in it, that it would smell good. I was wrong. I may end up decanting samples of it for people or giving it away or selling it. It's similar to Obsession but not as strong. I don't like Obsession. I'm surprised at reading what fragrance notes this has in it,that it far less notes then Obsession does. Or is it they just don't list all of them, cause they don't have all the information.?

I do not like it. The scent to me is awful. I can't even fully describe how, it's too sweet. Makes me slightly nauseous. I find it offputting, I don't know how else to say it. I just read someone else say rotting bench. Spot on. I do not like it.

Cheap stuff and very strong alcohol. It is more like an aftershave than cologne. Sure enough, it's very woodsy and very mature; not for teens. Tacky packaging. Nothing that I would draw to this. Sorry but this ain't for me.

Blind bought this one for 6 bucks and it is pure sandalwood. Not my fave but the longevity and sillage will last on clothes over 12 hours. My father in law loves it. But I like the wood top setting in my collection.

Nasty. What should be a simple wood, vanilla, and nutmeg scent turns into a rotting bench from hell. On my skin, the nutmeg overpowers too much with a weird woody-acetone note. The stuff is cheap for a reason.

Wandering over to the masculine end of the fragrance world for $5 at TJ Maxx is a cheap thrill. I love sandalwood in fragrances, and couldn’t resist Norwegian Wood. I must say, I’m a little nervous about potentially “smelling like a man” (although I love how men smell!), so I hope that doesn’t influence my response too much. The bottle is interesting, a squat sturdy bottle with a wooden cap shaped like a large wine cork; it conveys a very modern yet earthy vibe (Ikea, anyone?) I tried to spray conservatively (on my abdomen and a tiny bit on my wrist, for closer inspection). The initial scent was rather crisp and citrusy, with only a hint of sandalwood. I see that both citrus and bergamot are listed, but this is definitely more citrus than anything else. Within the hour, the sandalwood becomes more apparent but this sandalwood is not excessively warm and cozy; it remains crisp with citrus undertones. I keep getting images of a ski lodge with lovely pale golden wood paneling bathed in winter sunlight; the feeling of warmth in contrast to a cold day; the smell of a sauna, with clean white linens and heavy wooden walls damp with steam. (I read someone else’s impression of cedar chips wet in the rain—and I think there is a cedary tinge, which must be why I’m getting images of a sauna). I thought for a minute I could smell the mustiness of the oakmoss, but that was short lived. As it continues to develop, it does warm up a bit in a pleasant and sensual way, and the sandalwood continues to remind me of cedar. My mental imagery and impression are being unduly influenced by the name of this fragrance; I think that’s because the name, bottle, and fragrance fit very well. It really isn’t too masculine. It’s a pleasant sandalwood, almost a single-note scent. It does develop a bit from crisp and clean to slightly warmer, but it’s a sunlit winter day kind of warmth. I’m wearing it on a warm summer day, but I think it would be a better cool-weather fragrance. Sillage is moderate, longevity >5 hours on my skin.

PRESENTATION: The presentation of Kanon's Norwegian Wood is moderately unique in it's refusal to take on a rectangular or spherical design, and the cap itself is made of wood, which is a rare treasure in modern perfumery. SMELL: The smell itself is immaculate, though linear, it is designed as if sculpted, honing in on a sweetened woodsy smell with slight support from citrus and smokey accords that follow. The main notes that are discernible unto themselves are that of Sandalwood and Vanilla although there is another strong woodsy-smell that is very prominent, and yet not clear as if the cedar is about to reveal itself, but you're not quite positive that it is the cedar itself. AGE: It's a younger mans smell, for sure, although an older gentlemen could pull it off, it has some nostalgic element to it - as if a pure memory hides behind it. LONGEVITY: Norwegian Wood unfortunately doesn't last that long, and maintains its composure primarily as a skin-scent, where it can stick around for a good while. It seems this is the only element holding this fragrance back from being a masterpiece - I'm sure if Kanon wanted to up the price a bit, they could push a much longer lasting version of this fragrance that would be unstoppable. OVERALL SCORE: 7.5/10

Kanøn Norwegian Wood.... Kanøn = Wood from Denmark or Faroe Island because of the letter "Ø" If it is Norwegian Wood it should be Kanön because "ø" is not commonly used in Norway anymore. I think most ppl don't get this fragrance because they have a wrong idea of what Norway is. The simplistic bottle design does reflect puristic Scandinavian design....It is not infantile and/or childish. Some think it should smell like a pine forest...like Pino Silvestre. Well, many trees grow in Norway and I personally think this smells like birch wood with powder and a touch of moss and vanilla. Think about the wood trade section of Lowes, Home Depot, Bunnings and Hagebaumarkt eating a vanilla custard and in a way it is similar to Evaflor Whisky. It cost you an apple and an egg. This one is a good cheapy

Woody and modern but not in a fashionable way. Smells very designer (which is great considering the price) but boring. Men's designer fragrance is not a genre that excites me at all but if that's something you're into, this is a bargain. The general impression is sweet soapy powdery rubber with a very odd very faint salty note somewhere in the back (cumin??) that gets drowned out by the sweetness. Mind you when i say sweet i don't mean in a sugar caramel way (which i prefer). It's sweet in a chalky necco hearts way (no thanks). The cap is 100% printed plastic. Either people don't know what real wood is, or kanon recently changed it to save on packaging costs. Which leads me to wonder if I'm smelling a reformulation? It's a disappointing blind buy for me so maybe it used to be better?

I picked up a 3.3 oz bottle at TJ Maxx or Marshalls for $7 like a few others here. Bought it blind but what I'd read about it intrigued me. At that price, it's certainly a worthwhile buy. Very woody, light, and clean. For me, longevity is on the poor side. It devolves to a skin scent within 3-4 hours. That's OK for me, though. I don't need everyone to smell a lumber yard when I walk by. NickE ReauX: JL did write the song as an ode to an affair he was having but didn't want Cyn to know about it. Thus, Norwegian Wood was rather obtuse. It's widely thought that when he "lit a fire," it was a reference to smoking pot, which he and the others were heavily into at the time.

Back in my decant-purchasing days, STC had a RIDICULOUSLY cheap 5 ml decant deal for this (like, $0.99 for 5 mls), so I got a few, and I have used these mostly as air freshener and room scenting, but TODAY, for the first time in, like, 10 or 11 years, I'm using this on skin. It's nothing amazingly new, nothing revolutionary, and nothing shattering any molds or anything like that, but it is surprisingly enjoyable -- a musky woody sandalwood over a calone-iso-e base. It works well as a room freshener, too, BTW -- I don't see myself looking for any more of this when I run out, but it has been an enjoyable experience, I must say...

Warm,wet wood....slightly sweet. Very strange but not in a really great way. Reminds me of being a kid and playing on the rain-soaked cedar chips of the playground right after the sun pops out and warms them up a bit. That doesn't sound too offensive and niether is this scent if layered with amber or vanilla or something. The other Kanon is much drier and sharper.This one's slightly mushroomy...very earthy but not sure it works completely. I like the analogy to a rotting bench......thanks for making me laugh....but really...it's sort of true.

Another offering from this bargain company I had to try. Again, it starts off as a chemically, synthetic mess of notes that is terrible. I wrote it off right away. However, as time passed a nice, soft sandalwood note blending with vanilla tones came forward and I quite enjoyed it. That is a lot to say considering I am not a huge fan of what is often the overpowering sandalwood note. Within about 6 hours it was just a soft skin note of sandalwood and woody notes. Not long-lasting, terrible at first, but easy on the pocketbook.

I dont see how the original kanon got such good reviews and this got such poor ones. The original has a sour cat piss note in it but this scent is basically a softer version of armani code which is also highly synthetic yet people have nothing but love for. Ive smelled two armani code knockoffs and Norwegian wood smells exactly like them. Longevity sucks but oh well its only 8 bucks. I personally think that the fragrance snobs just see the price tag and that influences their judgment quite a bit.

Blind buy for my dude, but I figured I would like the notes listed too and I do, it's amazing! for the low price it was a heck of a deal too. The anise in this is there but not overpowering, this is a true spicy licorice-wood scent with enough sweetness to keep it from getting too bitter. Wonderful vanilla note that is not overly sweet, it's a powdery vanilla, soft and smokey. Must be from the incense and sandalwood. I am going to use this for myself.

Doesn't smell like how much it costs at all! Don't judge something by its brand and price. Great scent, very woody, very unique ... just stand out! Start up somehow like Le Male, but then cool down very woody. Very long lasting, I put a spray on a piece of paper at 9PM, went to bed, waked up at 11AM next day, still could smell the base scent on the paper. And guess how much it costs in ROSS ?! --> $9 + tax for 3.3oz size!

Not going to be over-critical since this was a TJ MAXX purchase for $5.99....certainly didn't break the bank! Basically a sweet sandalwood powder...quite linear...not very masculine (in my opinion, of course). For some reason reminds me of Zizanie but not as sophisticated....Don't rush to seek out this fragrance by any means...pleasant and inoffensive...sort of ends there by my standards.
