KL Homme

It's the ascent of the cinnamon in the drydown that saves this fragrance. I agree with the review immediately below that the opening of this does not do justice to its drydown. That review uses the descriptive "stuffed", but I would use the same descriptive I did with its father, Lagerfeld Classic, and say the opening seems "blunt" to me. Whatever that means. And dry. But the sweet cinnamon saves it later, and it turns quite nice. Quite nice. And I also agree with Ramsey below in that this scent profile is like a hybrid of Lagerfeld Classic and Guerlain Habit Rouge EDT - at least in the opening. And since my appreciation of the dry Lagerfeld Classic and Habit Rouge EDT is tepid at best, its no surprise that KL Homme's opening is not very enjoyable to me. But again, love the drydown. As far as comparisons go, I zapped a few of those listed above with down arrows: MDCI Chypre Palatin, Tiffany for Men, Ocean Rain. I have all of those, including the two I up arrowed: Lagerfeld Classic and Habit Rouge. Its later in that nice drydown when cinnamon edges the scent a bit closer to the cinnamon Spicy Oriental profiles of CK Obsession for Men and others of that genre. And maybe even a little bit more towards Tiffany for Men. As far as a comparison to Luciano Pavarotti goes, I think I can smell why some people would draw that comparison, but for me its like these two have an uncanny similarity without smelling very similar. The two do have some commonality in structure, like slightly astringent openings and heavenly drydowns, and so I perceive the two as sort of parallel. Its a bit difficult to explain. I have the Luciano Pavarotti as well, and it is a beautifull scent as well, especially in its drydown. All in all, KL Homme is an improved Lagerfeld Classic. Very nice drydown.

I don't know, I think you can find stuff like this in the mall still, and for very little money. This isn't the "unicorn" holy grail discontinued oriental that some people might be making it out to be. I just bought a 2 oz bottle of KL at my nearby shopping mall for $36.33, and I have a photo of the receipt to prove it. An object lesson in real "vintage" fragrance economics, if you will - the impulse is to seek these types of fragrances online at auction sites like Ebay, where people are currently asking no less than $69 for the same size EDT. But in reality the obvious course of action of 15 yrs ago (going to a brick and mortar) yields better results, particularly if you visit a non-franchised perfume store (in other words, something other than Perfumania). I know of two brick and mortars here in Connecticut that have had KL Homme on their shelves in the last two years, and I just bought one of them, and even more intriguing is that the guy who owns the store I bought it from is very knowledgeable of these fragrances, and knows what he has in stock like the back of his hand. The fragrance? A crisp oriental, very balsamic, although its musk notes have decayed and disappeared due to the fragrance's age, and the amber in the base is a little thin. Otherwise it is a terrific balsamic-spicy composition that smells fairly natural, a sort of cross between Obsession for Men and Cinnabar, minus the soapy "blah" nature of the former and the incense note of the latter. Worth every penny I paid, but imo not a penny more.

I rarely do this, but having worn it again a few times this week, felt I had to: I'm updating my review of KL Homme. Having now used this for a few years, I can say that it isn't impressing me nearly as much as it used to. Lately it's been giving me a strong synthetic-musk (read: white musk) impression, and its powdery amber smells very nice but also distressingly dull. Put simply, KL Homme is the definition of boring oriental. There's nothing animalic, no pungent herbs or resins (could use a bit more patchouli), no strident citruses, nor any memorable floral notes. I'm not suggesting that good orientals should possess all of these traits, but at least one or two for character and durability, and KL has none. It's a balsamic citrus top, followed by a mellow powdery amber, finished by a nondescript musk. Lagerfeld Classic, on the other hand, still delights. That sour, musky orange note followed by crisp cigarette tobacco and clear myrrh notes really feels good, when I'm in the mood for it all. KL is hard to be in the mood for. Even Old Spice feels punchier. I guess I'll keep it as a reference oriental, because it certainly has all the basic necessities of a good oriental, but it feels more like the framework of something that needs to be fleshed out.

This was released a year before I was born. Very hard to find but I managed a 125ml EDT splash in October 2019. It is a heavenly nectar. Similarities are there with Lagerfeld Cologne Vintage of which I also have but one doesn't discount the other. I have a soft spot orientals so this is right up my street. I love that I, as well as many others can enjoy these type of vintage fragrances. Age recommendations don't put me off, I enjoy the likes of Van Cleef & Arpels Pour Homme, Givenchy Xeryus, Aramis JHL, Davidoff Vino, Salvador Dali (Dali PH) amongst many others from varying scent categories. They all have their own developing character and completely different from what's available on the mainstream today. Back to KL though, the colour of the juice suits the smell. Warm, spicy and cosy. As someone already mentioned the lighter and softer version of Opium, I get this too. KL could be taken as being slightly feminine but not in a negative way, certainly doesn't bother me when you consider the plentiful offerings of current fragrances marketed for men that are even more so leaning on the feminine side too. I'd definitely purchase a second bottle if another KL Homme becomes available in the near future.

KL Homme this is not a smooth and quiet scent. smelling with the nose on an open splash bottle, expecting a smooth amber scent, will make you feel like getting punched right in the face first, in a positive way. it is incredibly spicy and strong, and masculine, but I know women who loved to wear it. description of the smell. it has the serious spicyness of Oud Touch by Franck Oliver, without the oud. it is exactly that category of scent. ( Dior Oud Ispahan is very similar, without the oud.) it is - dry and powdery - strong - spicy - serious it's - not sweet - not smooth - not citrussy - no barbershop - not fresh which isn't a bad thing. again, It is a beauty. I smelled "Lagerfeld Classic" once, and it is not even close. just imagine one intense, heavy chord. made out of carnation, cloves, Brazilian rosewood, cinnamon, bitter orange peel, rose, and geranium. the dry down is calmer, more ambery, less sharp. and pleasantly masculine. it's beautiful for my taste, but I don't recommend a blind buy of a vintage bottle without trying. .
