Fleur de Peau

This is so yummy!! I get nothing similar to Cuir de Russie, and while I most definitely smell the leather, this is a primarily a resinous floral on my skin. I own the older version - A Fleur de Peau - so I'm not sure how much of a difference that makes. It would be nice if someone who has tried both can comment on that! The longevity, projection, and silage are very good. Again, I can only speak to the "A" version. This is my fourth Keiko Mecheri and it may actually be in a tie with Myrrhe de Merveilles for my favorite. Both are definitely cold weather scents that will easily segue from a big, cozy sweater and jeans to something more suitable for a night out. Keiko makes gorgeous fragrances. I've purchased all of mine blindly and have yet to be disappointed. Of course, YMMV, so unless you're in the mood to take a chance, I recommend you try before you buy. That might not be possible with her older scents such as this one, but who knows? Maybe you'll luck out! EDIT 3/6/2024 - I still love this, but for the record, Myrrhe de Merveilles remains my favorite out of the multiple Keiko's I own. I just purchased a backup bottle!

A Fleur de Peau (with the word 'A' in front). Bottle cap is etched. Ylang-ylang, Iris. Then honey, spice, and subtle burnt orange balance the sweetness, while ambergris contributes to the leather feeling (that's what I'm getting - even tho ambergris isn't listed in the pyramid. There's something there contributing to this sued-y, hide-y note...) A Fleur de Peau serves misbehaved, drippy, droopy flowers way past their prime in a syrupy, sensual, and potent dish. It is a gorgeous and unique take on a leathery-floral perfume, and deserves to be worn whenever, and often, which I do. I especially enjoy spraying A Fleur de Peau in the evening, when I can alternate between conscious enjoyment and mindless experience. Surprisingly unisex. Sillage - Potent. One spray is enough. Lasting power - above average. edit: Love this so much that when a first-edition bottle became available, I bought it. I have no doubt that I will finish both bottles.

I am truly baffled at the neglect of Keiko Mecheri FLEUR DE PEAU. This is a simply gorgeous ambergris floral composition. Perhaps it has been misunderstood as a leather perfume? The edgy ambergris accord is very obvious; the leather less so, but what makes this creation unique is the sweet florality, which actually reminds me initially a bit of Miller Harris COEUR DE FLEUR. The bright, perfumey aspect of that floral perfume is on display in FLEUR DE PEAU as well, but it is counterbalanced by the ambergris to make a very appealing and daring feminine perfume. I've seen some comments to the effect that Keiko Mecheri perfumes are too staid and restrained. This one is not, and I commend it to the attention of anyone who loves both feminine florals and true ambergris. FLEUR DE PEAU is going on my wishlist! This is incredibly wonderful!

I read everyone's reviews to AFdP with interest. My thoughts are closest to harperhilton's. I own many of the scents that other fragranticans find reminiscent of AFdP; and IMO it's very similar to Cuir Mauresque. To my nose, AFdP is sweeter and slightly more powdery than CM (maybe the ylang ylang adds the sweeter presence). The leather tends slightly closer to Cuir de Russie than CM. Regardless this is a beautiful winter warm up fragrance for a day where you watch the snow melt reminding you that spring will arrive soon. I think we can see Ms. Mecheri's inspiration for this charming composition. Even if you own many of the similar perfumes, this is not redundant. I'm glad to have a FB of AFdP in my stash.

I wore this perfume for New Year's Eve, and it was a cozy way to bring in the new year.The powder here is divine,like golden iris butter, bees buzzing in my memory around sweet yellow/white flowers. And leather, perfumed leather. I can't stop sniffing this elegant powdery masterpiece!

Normally, when I get these samples, I have to spray them to get the full scent, but with FDP, I could smell this before I took the cap off. It is very powerful. The smell filled my kitchen simply because I opened the cap off the sample. First smell on a piece of paper I noticed a civet and jasmine mix, with another note underneath these. I can get a hint of a fruit note, but it’s not that strong. The leather is very powerful. It instantly fills up a room. I put what I thought was a conservative amount on and someone noted that it was pretty strong. Of course, this was within a couple of minutes and it did die down (just a little, though). The leather is like a burnt leather. Different, but I did like it. I could smell the jasmine as well. Some have talked about the top notes being bad and I can see why they think so. They’re not necessarily a pleasant mix and it is nicer when it dries down. But, personally I don’t mind the top notes. They are indeed stout, but in a good way IMO. When the middle notes take over, the strong leather dies down and the civet takes over. The civet becomes pretty prominent and leaves a nice mix of it and the leather through the rest of the wearing. Longevity is pretty good, over 6 hours (depending on how much you spray on I suppose). All in all, I really liked FDP. But I’m not sure how many other people around me would like it.

Its the only scent I absolutely love... that I ordered directly from KEIKO MECHERI website. The leather scent mixes well with civet .... The civet can becomes pretty prominent however its blended well with enough spices and florals to create ... A incense like powdery Russian Leather scent. seems to me that .. Kieko Mecheri does this rather well and has cornered the market on... POWDERY Scents that is... A soft close to the skin masculine fragrance, sensual and distinguished: for nights that require quiet intimacy....

This one smells to me very close to Habanita by Molinard. The vintage taller bottle. It's very reminiscent of baby powder, with that hint of skank. So she's not a sweet innocent little flower. This is a bad ass perfume just like Habanita. They are baby powdery skank with some kick ass potency, silage and longevity. So I am on the fence. Not because it smells bad but because its just so close to Habanita. Hmmmm we shall see how this fits in to the collection.

WIERD; like nothing else I own; love it and hate it; sweet fruity candy like Swedish fish; dont think my bottle is authentic based on the notes listed: no leather, no ambergris, no civet, no florals other than pure YLANG YLANG; on the drydown the iris rises to remind one of Guerlain Metallica

This is a super-potent, womanly elixir of a scent- balsamc, rich, flowing, golden/amber syrup...

well, wouldn't you know it, years later i love this. i used to avoid it on principle, since it is basically serge lutens cuir mauresque, lightly tweaked. of course, cuir mauresque itself is not much more than a small tweak of knize ten as it used to be -- so my aversion to early mecheri fragrances was based on the fact that during that period she released barely altered riffs of many of the then available lutens fragrances. they were not bad (even good), mind you. just, it was sheldrake's work, not hers. anyway, fast-forward 15+ years and sheldrake has since composed some pretty awful stuff for lutens, while i haven't followed mecheri at all. so today i wore "a fleur de peau" and "cuir mauresque" side by side (or arm by arm, as it were) -- et voila, a fleur de peau emerges victorious for me because of a pronounced honey note in the base. they are otherwise very close, with a fleur de peau being stronger, denser and longer lasting than cm, which is a little more herbal. i was lucky to nab a bottle of an earlier incarnation (when it was still "a fleur de peau" and before the "a" was dropped, which also changes the meaning of the phrase.) anyway, it isn't even available in her current line-up anymore, although i am wondering if "cuir cordoba" from the "under the skin" range is the same fragrance -- re-formulated, no doubt -- since "a fleur de peau" could be translated as "under the skin" (and the english-speaking world could never figure that out, if i remember rightly. caused some back and forth re: meaning at the time.) in any case, it's very good. and i'm looking forward to owning it :-)

First impression: omg- this is gorgeous I found a first edition (1999 or 2002) 100ml bottle when they used the tall rectangular glass bottle a la Serge Lutens. Golden liquid inside and never sprayed. The opening was slightly sweet but not lipstick sweet Iris and Ylang Ylang. It reminds me of Chanel N°5 but only the one note of Ylang Ylang. As the sweetness softens, ultra smooth and supple leather emerges. There’s some powderiness so there’s this push and pull of dated and modern and it creates a pang of nostalgia in my mind. I am not experiencing anything dirty or skanky or unpleasant. Nor is AFdP too loud or quiet. It’s creating a subtle yet detectable aura around me. I wish it was a bit sweeter but this is only the first wear and I think AFdP has more secrets to tell me later on during more wears. Will update: It’s been about 2 hours and now a delicious amber is coming forward. I’m still picking up on leather but it’s sweetened amber from the amber. I’m loving this more and more.

I can smell Habanita on this one. Less the spice. Both powerful. The scent may work to some but not for everyone.
