Follow

Have you ever wanted to smell like you accidentally spilled your coffee on you before going somewhere, but don't want to actually spill hot coffee on your nice outfit? Well boy do I have the scent for you. As soon as you spray this on you are hit in the face with the smell of dark, bitter, roasted coffee beans. Super realistic, and near intoxicating for anyone like myself that loves the smell of roasted coffee. Then as it begins to dry it starts to smooth and sweeten out, but never to the same degree that "Followed" by the same house does. Follow always contains a bit of the classic bitter black coffee smell to it, but it still has a fair amount of maple syrupy goodness. Having given both this and Followed about 3-4 full wearing's each I will say I probably prefer this one more as it doesn't actively try to choke out myself, friends, and random strangers around me, and because of that this is the more versatile of the two as well. If you LOVE sweet coffee, like LOVE LOVE the smell of sweet coffee, and you want to tell the whole world that you love it, get Followed. If you aren't that guy, and you don't wanna nuke the room you apply in for months, get Follow. Buy what you like. That being said I still get very good performance and projection from this fragrance. Easy 12 hour wear with a strong 6 foot bubble around me, people will smell you. 9.8/10. Signature Scent Worthy.

The latest release from Kerosene prompted me to finally try the house out---in addition to the sample for Follow that I was sent (with a couple others I ordered), several samples were included that I did not order, so that's always a nice start. On the fragrance itself, Follow is a coffee-dominant gourmand that includes the variety of sweet notes shown above. I don't get many of the sweet notes distinctly, but the amber/benzoin/sap side is certainly in balance with the vanilla, as neither aspect is dominant, and it does come off ever so slightly as powdery, a nod to the tonka. It doesn't evolve much on my skin, remaining in balance throughout its dry down, and I like this, as the fragrance doesn't begin too sharp or harsh or sweet to require resolution in the first place. Follow is probably the sweetest coffee-dominant fragrance I've tried. I own several coffee fragrances, and they're all some variation of more acerbic, darker, spicier, boozier, or simply less sweet, but among these, Follow is much sweeter, for comparison's sake, than: Thierry Mugler A*Men Pure Coffee, Sebastiane Espresso Royale, Gallagher Fragrances Carpe Cafe, Legendary Fragrances Barista, or Piotr Czarnecki Sensei. In that it's sweetly different from the other coffee options above, I intend to purchase a bottle of Follow. 8 out of 10

I loved trying out this perfume. I was a bit apprehensive after trying Followed and that being very syrupy, but Follow smells sooo good and is the better of the two in my opinion. At first spray, it's coffee, rich and sweet with an almost caramel-like scent from the amber. The sap note is also present, lending its ever-so-slight coniferous attribute. However, the tonka also adds a warm spicy quality that makes it feel so cozy and nostalgic. To me, Followed was a pancake breakfast—very sweet and syrupy—with coffee on the side, while Follow was a French toast breakfast with a fall-spiced latte—still sweet, but to a lesser extent, and with some spice. The sap fades for me after the first hour, while the coffee gets a bit stronger, but the rest of the scent stays the same until the vanilla starts to kick in at around the three-hour mark. This adds a little more sweetness and causes the warm spice of the tonka to begin fading. From here on out, the scent remains the same. The longevity on me was approximately 8 hours. Overall, I really enjoyed this. I always love a coffee perfume that I can actually smell the coffee in but this one is so good that it's now my new favorite coffee fragrance.

This scent makes me think of my father. It's strong, a bit rough around the edges at first, sometimes bitter although there is sweetness hidden in the background. It's dark and deeper than you'd guess, with an unexpected playful side, and always, always authentic. FOLLOW is a stunning composition that tells a complex, not always happy, story in a beautifully elegant and honest way. Sweetness with an edge speaks to my soul and this scent rings true to my core. UPDATE I started wearing this everyday. Out of my large collection it calls to me (and I realized I can get away with wearing it at work). While at the hospital or fire department, fellow coffee lovers appreciate the scent and those rare few that don't drink coffee just seem to not notice. On me it wears as darkly sweet with just enough burnt strength to keep from being too rich, a balanced fragrance that stays smooth throughout. I'm quite pleased to have found a gourmand that is unusual yet comforting and perfectly at home in my profession. I have bought multiple full bottles and samples to share with those I love.

Sampled it at a store the other month and this got me into gourmand perfumes. Finally got a sample and yep, this is gonna be a full bottle. First whiff is very in your face, beautiful cinnamon coffee cake, having a neighbor over for coffee kinda vibe that I instantly fell in love with. On paper this does eventually dry down into coffee grounds but I don't mind that since that only happens 15+ hours later. On my skin there is still beautiful sweetness to it, which progresses from said coffee cake, to instant 3-in-1 coffee (nostalgic), to beautiful cloves. The cinnamon vibe is very much there throughout though. Alas I don't think the projection is as good as I hoped based on longevity (longevity is excellent, all day on my dry skin), and the perfume is tinted so gotta be careful with spraying on clothes. My friend told me she can smell it on me after four sprays on skin so it's definitely noticeable to other people though especially after more sprays. I will try spraying it on my jacket and hair once I get my hands on a full bottle.

Rich, sweet coffee. Earthy, with an amber-y touch. Dirty, from the tinged bitterness. Dark, from the deep coffee note. Sweet, from vanilla. Surprisingly full of depth for a hyper-realistic coffee, you can smell EVERYTHING. Absolutely gorgeous. Totally unisex. I feel this would suit someone who is always wearing the color black or something antiquated and leather (suede), I sort of get a Gothic vibe from this.. On a side note this smells like a badass grandma. If you love the smell of coffee, and you like vanilla, there is no reason you shouldn't get this. Edit: LOL WHY DOES MY SKIN SMELL LIKE SOY SAUCE THE NEXT DAY. Perhaps its just my skin, sighs I was so excited to buy a full bottle. Edit 2: I wore it again and this time I got a vanilla-sappy drydown the next day, false alarm guys lol! But who knows. Back to buying a full bottle. Edit 3: I learned to only spray this on skin and not clothes. Spray this ONLY on skin.

Oh my god. I picked up a couple samples from the house of Kerosene because I was intrigued by reviews I had seen online, and ever since I smelled a sample of this, I've literally thought about it every single day. In fact, while I was testing other samples I would sometimes catch myself thinking "this is fine, but I wish I was smelling Follow right now," so of course I had to pick up a full bottle. If you don't like coffee or gourmands, you're not going to want to get anywhere near this, but if you're into both of those scents, Follow is certainly worth checking out. The projection and longevity are both INSANE- if I spray this on a piece of clothing, I can still smell it quite strongly 24 hours later. This is a great example of a fragrance that's aggressively sweet without being youthful or annoying; it's rich, bold, and actually quite sexy. Definitely the best coffee scent I've ever personally smelled.

Follow is by far my favorite coffee fragrance of all time. It is perfect in every way. I get pretty good performance on this (8+ hours with decent projection) and the smell is unlike any other coffee fragrance I've ever smelled. I smelled this fragrance very early on in my niche adventure. So at the time I didn't understand fragrance notes very much. I loved the opening with the coffee, but the dry down was reminiscent of burnt rubber (probably from a combination of the resins and saps). However as I've gotten more experienced with fragrance notes, this smell went away and instead made the dry down a beautiful, sweet, resinous coffee dream. I would always recommend buying a sample of every niche fragrance (especially if you aren't very experienced) but this is something I would recommend to anyone looking for a coffee fragrance. The coffee, the resins, the tonka bean. It's just perfect. 10/10

The most realistic coffee scent you will find. It’s very dark, roasted and bitter. Akin to the smell of burnt toast inside of a coffee shop. The smell is a syrupy, overly extracted ground coffee combined with boozy liquor. I would actually like the liquor smell to stick around more. It does soften as time goes on, and gets slightly sweeter, but this isn’t a sweet creamy coffee experience. I was expecting more Vanilla but there is none here. On its own it’s very bitter and avant garde. I layer this with something floral, or creamy to offset the bitterness. This layered with a creamy, coffee like fragrance really boosts the coffee note. The projection, silage and longevity are just average on my skin. It’s really intense initially then starts to quickly subside, becoming closer to the skin. Still on the hunt for my ultimate coffee fragrance.

I got a sample of this from ministry of scent and I believe I'll be following up with a full bottle purchase. I absolutely adore this, got it on a whim based on the notes in my set of samples. The scent is not something I usually go for, but it is true coffee with a sweet/spicy vibe. It almost smells like a dirty chai but one that is not too sweet. It does smell quite sweet to me, but not as sweet as "sweet" usually goes, and I tend to lean towards drier scents. I do also have intense cafe, I don't find them too similar although they are somewhat similar, and I absolutely prefer this one. I get no powder or amber, but I believe this to be a safe blind buy, esp if you like coffee! More of a fall/winter scent (absolutely should and will wear while doing the annual gilmore girls marathon) although I'll be wearing this cozy scent year-round.

Follow is such a uniquely beautiful coffee fragrance! It feels like true roasted coffee beans in a bottle. I first notice the freshly ground dark-medium roast, then I make out the earthy, natural, sap and clove-like aspects. I usually would not like the smell of clove, but it doesn't come off as too bitter and blends into the fragrance like a shadow, deepening the earthy tones while keeping the coffee smooth and natural. It doesn't smell too sweet to me (although some people say it does), but I do get a bit of maple & vanilla over time. It's beautifully unisex and feels gothic, aloof, earthy, put together, and academic. Follow gives ambition and level-headedness, I feel intentional and confident when I wear this. It reminds me of being a forest fire lookout or park ranger with a warm cup of dark coffee, solitude, and responsibility. ☕️

Absolutely delicious photo realistic roasted coffee scent. I have not found another brand that does coffee gourmands (or gourmands in general for that matter) better than Kerosene. It's like you're brewing yourself an espresso and you added a hefty dose of vanilla syrup and steamed milk. You take it to the living room couch, grab a blanket, and sip it while the snow falls outside. In comparison, Followed is just a little bit more sugary sweet - more like a caramel frappucino. Follow is more straight coffee with vanilla syrup and milk. Both are so beautiful and delightful to smell on yourself all day. As always with Kerosene, sillage and longevity are nuclear - spray very carefully! I sprayed Followed on myself while in my car two weeks ago and it still lingers in there. Not that I'm complaining. 10/10

Reading the reviews below, seems some are a bit confused. Follow is a strong coffee fragrance with nuances of sweetness. Definitely more resinous. Check the notes on Kerosene's website: there is no maple syrup listed in the notes. (Sap=not maple syrup). Followed is the syrupy, caramel based coffee scent. Regardless, coffee fans need to check them both out, with completely different expectations for each. Both undoubtedly have a high percentage of natural coffee. For coffee purists: Follow is the clear choice. Make no mistake, there is nothing straightforward about any Kerosene offering, and this is one of them. I personally love the resinous quality of Follow and find it to be incredibly complex, especially upon drydown.

This kicks off with pure, unbridled, black coffee. Around 30min-1hr later it turns more into a cup of coffee with a vanilla creamer added. Brings back thoughts of a cold morning in November. I've always loved the smell of coffee, so this was an easy blind buy. John knocked it out of the park. Projects within an arms reach for the first 2-3 hours and sits a little closer to the body for another 4-5hrs. Not heavy or anything either this is easily worn. I live in a warm humid climate and will update how it works for that, but, if you love how it smells when you walk in a cafe/coffee shop, or when you grind beans and brew your own coffee in the morning, this is a must have now that it's starting to cool down.

This is one for all the dark roast coffee lovers. It's uncompromisingly C O F F E E. It's very linear but sometimes that's all you need. You wanna smell like a plywood-cladded hipster coffee shop where "they do things a little differently" and they charge you half a kidney and your firstborn for a shot but you also know the coffee slaps without fail every time you go there? That's the perfume for you. Show up to a date with this on and the other person knows right away you're not messing around when it comes to your hot brewed beverage of choice. I love a good coffee, I love this perfume. Just don't wear it in summer and apply conservatively because your neighbours neighbour will know when you put it on.

I have a decant of Followed, and I find that one to be too gourmand leaning. Smells like sugary pastries with a side of coffee. Follow is a lot heavier on the coffee aspect. It's missing that slightly sour, terpy edge that you get when you smell a bag of fresh roasted coffee beans, probably because it's blended with amber and some other vanilla-type of material. What i get here is a really well roasted coffee bean smell, no sharpness at all. Just a dark, ever so slightly sweetened coffee with a bit of maple syrup. Pretty performant, although Followed is even more crazy performance-wise. I still wish this one was slightly less sweet, but oh well.

At first I got the smell of walking into a coffee shop and the raw, freshly ground coffee but then it dried out into something so familiar 🤔 just couldn't put my finger on it. The review below by @banjerine hit it right on the nose...CLOVE CIGARETTES! I used to enjoy Djarum cigarettes outside a local coffee shop with a good book or game of chess and this scent took me right back to those big comfortable chairs, cold rainy days, and leather-bound books. The nostalgia alone makes this scent worth it. That said it's done so well. I love a scent that's not afraid to take a risk to take you on a journey. This does just that. For me, it's a 10/10

I thought I'd never be too excited again about a coffee-gourmand perfume, but how wrong I was! Follow got the best opening among all coffee based scents that I've tested so far! So real, so smooth and inviting - just perfect... The drydown is more vanilla-syrupy in a very pleasant and comforting way. The reason I'm in love with this fragrance is the warm feeling, the wonderful cozy atmosphere that creates around me. Seeing such a nice guy, an ex-youtube reviewer to make a masterpiece scent as Follow - it's like a dream come trough for all perfume enthusiasts around the world. He just proved he's on the right track. Kerosene, well done!

This and followed have become two of my favorites scents. So unique, so deep, long lasting, and will cast a heavy memory trigger on yourself and anyone around you. Many will love it, some won’t, and that’s perfect. Anything that’s for everybody is probably for nobody because it doesn’t stand out and neither will you. If you like standing out (in a good way) and love a good gourmand that completely unisex, get this one or Followed. Both are an amazing feat in perfumery. So glad I was introduced to this fragrance house. I’m thinking about trying some of his other creations. Because Follow and Followed both have me mesmerized.

Gorgeous coffee and cream for the first hour then slowly deconstructs into a complex and prismatic warm sweet perfume that has notes of milk, vanilla, coffee, and sugar and maybe even whisky or rum. I bought a full bottle from Indiescents and it smells cozy, comfortable and sophisticated, and hours later keeps going with nothing like the burnt coffee and vinegar notes or fleeting longevity I am reading about below. Perhaps those are from samples? I do recommend minimal application, for me one tiny spray on neck and chest is enough for a powerhouse personal effect.

Not overly sweet but rightly balanced roasted high quality coffee smell, pretty persistent in the first phase, after 5-6 hours transforms into something like 'coffee amber' with creamy benzoin and tonka. The maple syrup gives an interesting twist to the scent, love it. Actually it smells like the coffee I love to drink; Dense, dry, thick and just sweetened lightly. I adore the name ''Follow'' - well I do follow coffee smell especially in the morning, it's intoxicating and draws your attention immediately. The best coffee+ I've encountered yet.

The opening is very astringent coffee, but it dries down to sweet spices with the coffee moving way to the background. Followed, on the other hand starts off sweeter but dries down into coffee. They are nearly the inverse of each other. While I like a coffee note I'm more into spices ambers which is more what follow is. Followed to me is the more gourmand coffee scent. I actually like Follow better than Followed but the opening always surprises me. I can understand people being turned off by the opening but the dry down is lovely. Long lasting

Picture this! You enter a turkish Coffee shop in Instanbul City! The turkish coffee hits your head like a huge slap out of nowhere! Nearby there is a shop making breakfast and someone is preparing pancakes with maple syrup and butter on top. The coffee is still the prominent smell, but you can smell the divine breakfast in the background. This fragrance has character and is in my opinion the most well made Coffee fragrance in the market. In my top 3 favorite fragrances at the moment! This is one of the few scents I truly believe is a unisex scent, I feel like most perfumes lean one way or another a little bit but this one is true neutral to me. It smells like coffee beans or coffee grounds, more on the slightly bitter side which I love! I wanted a more true coffee scent without all the fluff, marshmallow, sweetness, milk, and cream. Definitely on the darker and bitter side, which I adore. Spillage and longevity is decent. I'd recommend this.

I was expecting a sweeter coffee scent. However, this comes off as something burning with coffee in the background. I actually do not mind the scent. However, I would not buy a full bottle of this Edit: coming back to this fragrance, the opening is very bold dark roast coffee. As many said, it’s bitter. However it fades into what black phantom should have been. I start smelling roasted chocolate, cinnamon and cooked tiramisu. In the dry down, the coffee turns into old coffee or a lingering coffee scent

My cousin and her husband owned a wonderful local coffee shop where they roasted the beans in house. Whenever you walked in, it smelled like heaven. They were known for their rich decadent espresso and often had a line out the door to get a shot. With the spent coffee grounds, my cousin made a coffee scented body scrub with brown sugar, which was always my favorite smelling scrub. This perfume smells almost exactly like that espresso and a touch of the sugar scrub. So thick and rich.

This one opens up with a bit creamy, heavy and realistic coffee note, kinda like espresso. Followed by some sharp boozy sweet notes which i assume is the maple, gave me a bit of headache but maybe because i sprayed it inside my car and was too potent at first spray. This gets a bit sweet with the vanilla and tonka but not cloying. There are only few coffee based fragrance on the market right now and this one is definitely on top of the list. Blind buy and fb worthy for coffee lovers.

I was looking for a new coffee scent this fall/winter and ran across this one. Ordered a sample and after my first wearing it’s the most realistic and IMO the best coffee scent I have smelled to date. It’s not sweet for me but it’s a little milky and smooth. It is very dense and like strong freshly brewed coffee grounds. It’s also a beast with 1-2 sprays being plenty but anymore I think would be overwhelming. An excellent overall scent if you want just coffee

Follow is pure nostalgia captured in a bottle. I’ve been a fan of coffee notes since I was an 8-year-old boy. I can distinctly remember going to Whole Foods with my grandparents and smelling all the different blends and styles of coffee. This scent takes me back to that first sense of discovery. A bitter ground coffee in the opening, followed by a smooth vanilla with a hint of amber and sap. My first niche fragrance. Excited to try more from Kerosene.

Hands down best coffee fragrance I’ve had my nose on. I’d intended to check this and a few other Kerosene selections out after someone on here brought John Pegg’s indie house to my attention and I’m kicking myself that I’d waited this long and that I’d spent on some other coffee fragrances. This is absolutely magnificent and the most photorealistic coffee scent I’ve smelled outside of grinding up some dark roast beans and brewing a pot every morning.

this is my perfect coffee scent. smells like rich roasted beans, with resin notes floating beneath. the dry down takes on a very warm, spicy, biscuit-y scent on my skin. i can smell it on myself all day, not overpoweringly, but in gentle wafts when i move. It feels like the scent is embracing me, or like it’s a fuzzy blanket. Beautiful, seductive, dark, spicy, warm, & a little goes a long way.

Black roasted bitter coffee beans. That is brutal smell of burnt notebook of Master ( from Master & Margarita Novell by M.Bulgakov). With the add of cognac. No milk, no sugar. Also it could be a coffee with saucer of nuts from the book of Ethel Lilian Voynich “Gadfly” that Arthur had while sitting on the porch with his disturbing thoughts . And Music of Shostakovich is following.

I love this fragrance lots, oddly on my skin i get a sort of metallic smell in the dry down but for some reason it makes me enjoy it much more. Easily lasts 9-10 hours and if you overspray it (roughly 8-12 sprays) everybody within 50 feet of you will be smelling it. As of August 2024 this is definitely my favorite fragrance for winter and colder summer days.

The first sniff of atomizer - goooood lord, perfect black coffee. So compelling. The first sniff on my skin - gasoline. However! I'm into that, as it lulls into a lovely blend of maple syrup, coffee and something so warm, so gentle. The visuals in my mind consist of a biker and espresso, so yeah - still into that. Not an everyday fragrance though.

Smells like a small arts college cafe. Distinctly remember emptying out small batch vanilla flavored coffee grounds from my french press while friends smoked cloves on the balcony and this smell brought me back to that exact moment. I might be more obligated to like it since it reminds me of an amazing night, but this is my favorite from Pegg.

Yes-definitely dark black roasted coffee at the beginning. Then I get smoky woods with a touch of sweet vanilla-must be the tonka. I love this-I would totally wear it but I told my husband I want him to wear it in the winter (oh I’ll probably end up wearing it with him..yay!) It smells sexy and cozy to me. Yum! Can’t stop smelling my arm...

I’ve tried a lot of coffee scents. This, black phantom, intoxicated, coffee addict, over the chocolate shop, noir exquise... This tops them all, at least in terms of coffee notes. It’s like sitting in a coffee shop and you’re getting all the smells. The grounds, the brewed coffee, the flavorings. It’s warm and cozy and so addictive.

The best realistic coffee fragrance i own. Dark bitter with a touch of sweet smokiness and so freaking beautiful. Performance on me is out of this world, I spray it on my clothes and it remains there for the next two washing cycles and my whole apartment smells like coffee for hours. FINALLY! I've found an amazing coffee scent. This smells like roasted coffee and cinnamon, or that just might be the maple sap. The performance is spectacular, and I haven't even smelled Followed, so I can't imagine how strong that one might be. Overall, I love this already, and I want a full bottle, just such a delectable scent.

Very mature dark roasted coffee. Nothing like its counterpart, Followed. Quite bitter, but you can still smell the sweetness at the same time. Definitely preferred to Followed, as you don't have to spray 8 hours before leaving your house, just to still have to play into the whole pancake house personality you will give off.

Photorealistic coffee...if you want coffee as a scent, and not just a nuance, then this is the one...opens as roasted coffee beans and evolves into a slightly sweetened (maple sap) black coffee...strong in the longevity & sillage department...leans a little masculine IMO...very enjoyable, when I’m in the mood.

Ahhh...no one can do gourmands like Kerosene. The opening reminds me of a pressure coffee maker - it smells like freshly used coffee grinds. It's so realistic, wow. And then minutes later sweetness comes in, making the smell warm and comforting - like a cosy coffee place on a cold rainy day.

Fantastic coffee opening. Go very light, if you go the slightest bit heavy the opening will smell increasingly burnt. The coffee gives way to a sweet vanilla latte. Becomes a skin scent rapidly, but I still smell it on my skin 12 hrs later. Incredibly well done as art.

Fascinating to see that this is one of those scents with a lot of different observations. To me, this is a plain dark coffee sans milk and sugar. I am not a coffee person but I love that coffee shop smell and this scent is enough to keep me awake.

This fragrance is one of my ultimate favourite gourmands. On me, it starts super spicy and smells like cardamom or nutmeg to me. Then it dries sweet, like vanilla and coffee. Obsessed.

Dark, raw, pure coffee. The only coffee-scent on the market that actually just smells like coffee. Nothing more, nothing less. Performance is nuclear. Will last you all day.
