Azure Velvet

Oh noooo it's up, I was gatekeeping this big time lol. I've had mine for about 6 months now. Azure Velvet is an airier Layton minus the heavy vaporub vibe. Opening is similar but the green apple is much less sweet. It's more wearable and versatile for all climates. It's freshness is energizing but without being a freshie. The fresh spiciness lasts about 4 hours or so. Drydown is pretty much a typical woody vanilla, still very enjoyable and smooth which lasts till about hour 7+ as skin scent. Performance definitely improved with masturbation. It's superbly affordable ($20!) so just overspray like Unc! Compliment factor is satisfactory. It's not an attention grabber but you'll get pleasant comments. Perfect for the office, casual events, day dates, heck even the gym. To me, a dupe has done it's job if someone asks if it's the original. 8.6/10 for a bargain dupe! Atomizer is niche standard lol.

There's allot of negative comments here that I think are not really justified. I've own other inspired by Layton's (detour noir, the Woods collection - complete with broken atomiser) and a decant of the OG. This is the best one for me and I actually prefer it to the OG - it's possibly a tad more minty fresh. The bottle feels and looks premium and display worthy. You can get this under £30 and it's wearable in almost any situation from casual to formal, all season. Most collections should probably have this scent profile in it, and if you can't or don't want to spend £350 on the OG, this inspired by variant is a very good option. Possibly longevity is the downside, I think I get between 3-6 hours of decent performance from it, so it's not beast mode.

I really like the scent DNA of this release, unmistakably Layton from the opening, still with that medicinal vibe (which I like) but toned down. Drydown is still Layton, almost mild tobacco-like, definitely masculine. Longevity and projection is just moderate. I layer this sometimes over my current Detour Noir Exclusif, 1 spray of DNE to 2 for KAV, and result is excellent, a new scent profile that is still Layton but with improved performance. Azure Velvet is basically a fresher lighter Layton, a nice “flanker” when feeling less dark. It’s like Lalique White In Black, but that is an original composition hyped to be similar to Layton and an affordable designer brand, but Azure Velvet is more faithful to the Layton scent, and is cheaper.

This is crazy good for the price! The best twist on the Layton DNA, much fresher and lighter, easily a three season scent with built-in mass appeal. The vicks opening of the og is also reduced a lot which is a plus. One of the best clones/twists I have tested. Doesn't try too hard to nail the exact scent with cheaper materials, and that makes for a good result that does not smell cheap like Detour Noir (I hate the way that smells, more than I hate its hideous bottle, it's borderline stinky). It nails the Layton vibe, and can be worn in more occasions. You will need some extra sprays to get it to perform, but it's really an excellent way to spend 25€.

Haramain is a spice bomb 85% close to LPDM but more power spicy not all the notes in the opening but dries more similar, longer lasting Velvet azure is a more mass appealing scent opening fresher like versace eros style a sweet minty And dries more citrusy what makes it more wearable for spring and fall night or day always keeping the LPDM DNA Longevity is not the strongest with 3-5 hrs and a modest Sillage

I felt that this has to be the scent of the entrance of the heaven when I sniffed Layton. But this one, Azure Velvet is better than Layton. Just think of the price and the fragrance. Yes, AV lacks the depth or richness and more sweet, but, it doesn't change anything that much. The only drawback of this perfume is its longevity. It could have been better, but you can overspray it to get rid of that. It is a soft, calm and versatile scent. Recommended.

This scent is absolutely great! One of my favorites. I haven’t tried Layton but after trying this, I may have to grab it. My only complaint is projection and longevity. If Layton has the same projection and longevity, I wouldn’t spend that kind of money on it, I’d continue buying this. I’m also interested in trying some of the other clones, I hear some have better performance. I rate the 9.5/10. It doesn’t get the 10/10 due to performance.

What a gorgeous smell! Never smelled Layton but when I tried this at the store, I had to get it. The dry down is such a smooth, powdery and slightly sweet vanillic smell without being feminine. Got me sniffing my forearm the whole drive back home. Doesn't last long for an extrait, skin scent after 3 to 4 hours. Maybe after leaving it to mature for a while. 8.5/10 beautiful

Initially, the scent was very good and intense, with remarkable longevity and sillage. After maceration, about a month and a half later, it has decreased significantly in these aspects. Perhaps it is my batch or maybe there is too much carrier oil.

I'm not familiar with Layton just for the record. This is a beautiful, clean, modern fougère. It wears quite unisex. Very sensible, smells like a dapper lesbian.

This is one of the most beautiful things I've ever smelled. It's PDM Layton without the awkward mintyness / spicyness...fresher, smoother and more usable.

i do indeed still get the vaporub vibe whenever i go in to smell it on my skin, i dont think that top note fades but i'll see once it further develops

One of my favorite Clones ever. Great interpretation of Layton. Even though it goes into it's own direction. Highly recommend an easy 8.8/10.

This is great very similar to Layton with similar performance very awesome at the price point. I have no complaints whatsoever about this.

Best Layton dupe on the market, period. Literal 1 to 1 after 3 minutes but a hint fresher than the og in the opening

#1575 in my "Tour de Fragrance" In the running for the most generic PDM "Layton/Chanel "Bleu" wannabe men's fragrance. But it has many competitors. I'd probably just get a $10 bottle of Nautica and call it a day as most often a blue is a blue is a blue. Everyone makes something like this, if not ten somethings like this, and every guy has something like this, if not more than one. It's the scent of anonymity. Pleasant, inoffensive, forgettable. Smells like: Adidas "UEFA Champions League Dare Edition", Armaf "Odyssey Aqua", "Wild One", Banana Republic "Grassland", Burberry "Burberry Men", Dior "Eau Sauvage Extreme", Jaguar "Classic Motion", "Evolution", Jo Malone "Amber & Lavender", JPG "Le Male", La Rive "315", Lanvin "L'Homme", Lattafa "Tharwah Silver", "Art of Arabia I", "Al Nashama Carprice", "Ramz Silver", Maison Alhambra "Glacier", Mercedes Benz "Man Bright", Mont Blanc "Legend Night", "Legend Special Edition", O Boticario "Botica 214 Dark Mint", PDM "Layton", "Sedley", Rayhaan "Elixir", "Nocturno", "Lion", Roja Dove "Apex Eau Intense", Viktor & Rolf "Antidote" (discontinued, but Alexandria Fragrances "Counterattack" is a good dupe). I could literally go on all day, but I won't. One is generally as good as the next. Few are offensive. Occasionally the synthetic bergamot can be too screechy, but most are okay. Like every blue scent on the market, this is not a great performer and does not in any way stand out from the crowd with a strong citric opening. In the dry down the incense becomes more prominent and improves it a lot, but it would still be casual day wear for me. Something for the gym bag. If you own any blue whatever I probably would not bother with this. If you own none, this one's pretty good, but I'd probably find the lowest price of any of the above and just get that.

Upon spraying, Azure Velvet opens up with a very strong, almost pungent lavender smell that is reminiscent of lavender gel room deodorisers, where it continues to radiate strongly off the skin for about two hours. I honestly do not get any sweetness or freshness from the supposed citrus and fruity notes. The real magic to me lies in the dry down that turns into a beautiful smooth masculine scent that smells somewhat of an incensey vanilla. 6-7 sprays on both skin and clothes lasts me 12 hours in the tropics. Great indoor scent, but versatile enough to be worn outdoors while communting. Wouldn’t blind buy this but otherwise very worth the $25 I paid.

Unlike French avenue, This Dupe smells like a dupe. It Doesn't have high quality in it. Opening is slightly harsh. But then after 5 minutes it is pleasing. Smells amazing, i wish it performed a hit better. Projection is about 1.5 hrs small - medium length projection, and longevity is about 6 hrs

I tried it again and I changed my mind. The weird peppery/mint thing going on has grown on me and despite the weird combo it's very nice. Duper linear and don't get any notes besides that unfortunately.

I got this a week ago as a blind buy. I have never smelled Layton, but this one is so fresh and clean smelling. I think this one is solidly unisex, since I am a woman and really like this one.

It's good but it's not Layton. It is close, but it does something different on the dry down.

Think its been 2 months since I've had it, probably sprayed 15% of the bottle testing and hoping for a scent change over the months but it still smells like a pine tree which makes me realize I don't really like this scent profile. Its more sweet than musky or masculine. It has gotten better and smoother but it basically just smells like a very sweet pine tree to me. 5/10 for me all the way around

Medicinal blue powder bomb. Not exactly something I will find myself reaching for. Sadly this just reminds me of walking into my old Pediatricians office when I was a kid. It's not a horrendous smell, but there's plenty of better blue fragrances out there. 5/10.

It’s alright. To my nose, it’s not as minty as Layton in the opening. The drydown is close to the OG, but it doesn’t last long or project well.

A powdery sweet vanilla with a faint fruity undertone. I find it more powdery than other Layton inspired fragrances and 'Azure Velvet' does away with the geranium note, so it doesn't really carry the famous 'menthol' style opening and therefore it doesn't tickle your nose in the same way. The mint note feels more in line with the original JPG Le Male -- mixed with the vanilla, it's very smooth, even from the first few seconds of spraying it. This is a comfort fragrance in every way. The scent itself is soft and it doesn't project loudly, yet it's noticable and very enjoyable. Like the name suggests, it coats your skin and smells like warm midnight blue velvet. I credit this to the vanilla, and this type of vanilla is my favorite -- slightly powdery, sweet, indulgent yet soft. The bottle is beautiful too, I like it a lot.

I received Azure Velvet as a complimentary gift with some of my other Arabiyat Sugar purchases and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. To my nose, it feels like a powderier, smokier interpretation of the Layton style, with a more pronounced fruity-floral character. While it shares some Layton DNA, it isn't trying to be a clone. If anything, the stunning blue bottle subtly hints at its own identity. It leans further into the woody side of the Layton spectrum, with a more noticeable mentholated freshness running through the composition. Fortunately, that's an aspect I quite enjoy, as it adds an extra layer of character and lift. The striking blue packaging and bottle presentation are also standout features, making it look every bit as appealing as it smells.

I tried layton and this like 2 days apart, very different. To be honest I couldn't smell the Layton much and it was disappearing after 2 hours so that's may be the reason why I didn't find them even close. Tbh probably went nose blind cuz I smelled so much perfumes. Back to azzure velvet, first time I smelled it on the tester paper it seemed very sweet, refined and kinda nostalgic for me, liked it a lot, but when I tried it on skin it was really rough which ruined it.

Holy fug, this is better than detour noir and only slightly less orgasmic than Dusk by The Woods Collection. Detour Noir is still the projection king out of the 3 but I don’t regret picking up Velvet Azure one bit. They are all different enough that they are all worth owning if you are a Layton addict like myself.
