Cabana

Cabana opens with refreshing minty leaves, accompanied by a hint of cut hay, evoking the image of a secluded shack on a sultry beach. Here, the earth seems to breathe warmth into the air; however, it lacks the expected marine or salty notes, leaving one longing for that final dimension. Over time, a nuanced sweetness emerges in its woody heart, well-balanced by the grounding bitterness of vetiver and galbanum. Later the scent deepens into a rooty, dry, smoky aura — like stepping into an exotic sauna where the wood has absorbed years' worth of stories and warmth. This final evolution carries a slight clue of the 80s, with a subtle vintage vibe that hints at something deeper and more contemplative beneath the surface. Yet, the motif of green freshness remains constant. This is a relatively safe scent, suitable for both hot outdoor outings and enclosed spaces. For a summer fragrance, it has impressive longevity, projecting intensely during the first few hours and lingering with a quiet persistence long after. It's undeniably unique — one of those rare scents where you can be almost certain no one around you will wear anything similar, or even have had the chance to experience something like this. However, be cautious indoors with the number of sprays, as its potency can easily dominate a room. At retail price, Cabana feels somewhat overpriced, much like many offerings from Paris Corner, which seems to position itself as a premium brand for Facebook Marketplace's or TikTok's Karens with peculiar pricing, especially compared to other Arabian perfumes. Fortunately, I acquired Cabana through an exchange for a duplicate perfume I got at a 50% discount, which made it feel like a more worthwhile addition to my collection. Otherwise, I might hesitate to buy it, especially after having to sell off two bottles of Killer Oud for their low quality and uninspired scent. While I would rate it higher if the powerful green notes were complemented by some marine accords, this slight imperfection adds to its charm. Even so, I wouldn't hesitate to wear it to the beach, appreciating it for what it is. I probably have some monster batch since I can still smell it after more than a day of application off my t-shirt. Originally tested this one at a local shop years ago and it must've been a bad bottle because the formula broke down quickly into a crappy plasticine base. The opening was great and super similar to the minty orange blossom and vetiver of BHM, but then it kinda fell apart after that. Wasn't impressed. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago when I decided to give it another shot, so I picked up a bottle with a production date of 07.2022 and it blew me away. Not sure if there was a reform or what (they changed the Sunshine one after all), but now it's almost spot on to the original. That awesome opening gets more dense in the mid-to-base and sticks around forever. Leaves a good sheen on the skin too just like my old decant of BHM and totally scratches the itch. Absolutely no mistaking what it is. Projection and longevity are both excellent and it's even difficult to wash off in the shower. And that's straight out of the box. Anyway, because of my bad experience with the stuff previously I wasn't expecting much so this was kind of a shocker. In fact, dare I say that it's more balanced than the Amouage formula? The mint is just as strong, but everything feels rounded out and the warmth is there too. Remains fairly linear, doesn't break down and I swear I even got a tiny hint of lavender in the mid. Closeness is at least 90% now, and when I'm wearing it, I get the EXACT same feeling I had when wearing BHM, with performance to match. Originally was going to wait until a better dupe came around but now there's no need. Maybe it was the extra time sitting around (un-sprayed) in the bottle I dunno, but this stuff rocks. Minus the dumb tassel (which I cut off), the bottle and box are great too. So glad I gave it another chance. Scent - 8/10 Longevity - 9/10 Projection - 8.5/10 Overall - 8/10

It opens with a patchouli and spice blend that is very similar to Amouage's but not exact. There's a little more of something (perhaps cinnamon?). It's very green with the galbanum, and the other green notes like moss and ivy are there from the beginning. There's a little sweetness here, and a little mint. The mint gets a little stronger in the first few minutes and by 15 minutes in you have a green, minty, slightly sweet fresh scent with a woody vetiver backbone. It doesn't change much from here, but as it gradually fades over the next several hours, the mint note pulls back a little faster than the others. I get about 6 hours performance on this one, the first two having the strongest sillage. The price is cheap, but still, you might want to at least try Beach Hut Man to have an idea if you will dig this DNA, because it hits that weird spot between a barbershop scent and a modern woody spicy. So, it's too green for some, but too warm and spicy for those who prefer classic scents. It's not blind buy safe, and I wouldn't wear this to an office, a date, an enclosed space, etc. It's a clone, so everything is relative to the original, right? All the notes are there per se, but the arrangement and quality of them is not identical. The original has a much better (and stronger) mint note, and the opening on the original is more fun to experience, but also more imposing to those around you. But honestly, an hour in and side by side it's really hard to tell the two apart and in the air, no one around you is going to know the difference. From that perspective, this clone is a success. Comparing the two, this is definitely worth the $35 or so you can get it for if you don't want to spend the price of the original. Not getting rid of my Beach Hut Man, but happy I have this one, too.

Huge fan of Beach Hut, but it's expensive and can be a little too nice/refined to wear day to day. Enter Cabana, much more versatile at a perfect price point. The openings between the two ARE different, too many comments saying they're identical. They're really not. I can't place it, but at least one or two of the top notes are weaker / stronger or just come from different sources. I've always found Beach Hut to start with a more pungent and bitter opening, which I actually don't like; the dry down has always been the goal for me. Cabana's opening is much nicer, a little sweeter, less astringent. Cabana is less punchy and less refined than Beach Hut, but that's what makes it ideal for casual wear. I even spray this on before the gym which I wouldn't dream of doing with Beach Hut. Even in the middle and late stages, they still smell different, but they're strongly related, perhaps more like brothers than identical twins. Projection and longevity are all excellent, especially on clothes.

#905 in my "Tour de Fragrance" I didn't realize when I ordered it that it's a clone of Amouage "Beach Hut Man." I just saw this fragrance line on FragranceBuy Canada's website, I was intrigued by the name of the line "Killer Oud", they were inexpensive, so I ordered all ten. This is the first of the line I've tried. I got Beach Hut Man in November of last year (#452 in my "Tour de Fragrance") and I absolutely love it and its beast mode performance. Get tons of compliments on it. But the price! There is no discernible difference between this scent and the Amouage in scent or performance. I paid $31.75 US for this, $150 for the Amouage. Buh-bye Amouage! Go light if you carpool or work in a tight office. This projects. A lot. All day. Into the night.
