Knize Ten Golden Edition

Strongly animalic leather smoothed out with powdery iris and vaguely clove-smelling carnation. There is a fresh citrus opening and a vanilla tinged, musky drydown. But the leather is ever present throughout. This scent is a bit perplexing as it is simultaneously more animalic and smoother than the original. The longevity and projection here are also both stronger than the original. I have both and enjoy them both. The original has suffered as the castoreum has disappeared from it. Once utterly harmonious in its Germanic precision blending of floral, spicy and animalic notes Knize Ten original today strikes me as a bit all over the place because the aromachemicals substituted for the IFRA-proscribed ingredients have adversely impacted the way the disparate elements of the fragrance work with each other. Golden Edition, by contrast, has come through reformulation in far better condition and forms a more harmonious whole. If you are not a mature guy who enjoys rougher leather, the original might, barely, work for you. Golden Edition won't. I love old school, hard core, rough leather scents like this one and Santa Maria Novella's Peau d'Espagne, vintage English Leather and Aramis. Accordingly, I love Knize Ten Golden Edition (& my vintage bottle of the original K10 as well). If you are a lover of leather scents this fragrance is well worth testing. But unless you are a confirmed old school leather scent lover, don't blind buy this. (Lucky Scent sells Knize products and sells inexpensive samples in addition to offering you the chance to request samples in which you're interested with any order.) I love this stuff, you might just love it too.

The Golden Edition is a condensed, amped-up version of the original Knize Ten that's a bit more apt for colder weather, specifically, but at the same time lacks of some of the freshness both in the opening and heart of the original, and in that respect, distances me from what I love about the original. I definitely get oakmoss in the Golden Edition whereas I didn't detect it all in the original, and combined with the leather, it creates a certain masculine spicy heaviness that didn't weigh down the original. Beyond that, it's a similar note list on paper--citruses, petitgrain, rosemary, etc.--but it's just less open and floral from beginning to dry down than the original. I still like Golden Edition a lot, but it's less fresh, versatile, and classic-smelling than the original, overall, though it does still remind me of some of the 80s/90s powerhouse fragrances. It feels near-impossible to judge Golden Edition outside of the context of the original, but on its own, it's a good, strong, spicy men's fragrance that's likable and worth trying, for sure. 7 out of 10

Opens full citrusy, but with upended with the petitgrain here. Soon after, the floral and wood assortments come out, geranium pushing to be the most prominent here followed by carnation, rose, jasmine, and iris, in that order of intensity. Arguably, the woodsy notes are even less prominent than any florals...but these middle notes aren’t what particularly stand out (with a caveat). There is some sort of mechanical-esque leather portrayed here, almost identical of what you’d find in MV Agusta - Xerjoff/Start Your Engines – The Dua Brand, but here IMO is slightly less intense, and less nuanced in regards to this genre. You can make out the oak moss just barely, but the vanilla, amber and musk really just become lost as supportive elements of what’s already being strongly portrayed here—an unapologetically bright leather. Since I have no need for another clone of the same frag, albeit differently nuanced that foregoes any florals, a FB isn’t necessitated here but I still like this very much regardless.

Mellow, dense, and beautifully blended, this is just what I would want a retro leather fragrance to be. One of my biggest disappointments this year was sampling the original Knize Ten, which seemed to me to be too harsh and sharp-edged--I've later heard that this most current incarnation doesn't hold a candle to the way the original fragrance was concocted before IFRA regulations. This special flanker is much more what I had been hoping for: a rich leather which balanced by elegant flowers (particularly a nice iris note) and a little citrus. (It is missing the raspberry note of the original Knize Ten, but I did not miss it.) There are no rough edges here--everything comes together so perfectly. While this is certainly not the kind of thing perfume houses put out today for their newest fragrances, this smells timeless to me rather than old-fashioned. An odd detail: while wearing this, I kept thinking how beautifully it would blend with tobacco if I were a smoker.

This is the fragrance that i can't travel without as i was introduced to it in 2014 only! it just changed my mind in the direction that the Cuoio Nobile by Pineider was nothing but a kid towards his sensei! specially with this version as it is more masculine, more long lasting, and quite offensively seduction. the kind of leather this fragrance presents is the heavy rain, dry rice, and the extreme masculine olfactive. you can't get used to it easily unless you are very open to try new things that might collapses your believes and principles if they weren't built on a robust powerful base... sounds harsh eh ;) it's neither harsh nor skunk, neither safe nor husky, it is quite the leather that only the man with extreme confidence would wear IF he liked it ;) and it's quite similar to Cuir Mauresque by Serge Lutens but with more masculinity and more toughness. NEVER buy it without trying it even if it's quite cheap to you.

This is excellent, basically Knize Ten made more wearable without making it simple or crude. I like the original Ten on paper, where it feels like a smell of old world luxury, but on skin all I get is dry, rough leather and musk that feels almost a bit oily - the florals and citruses quickly vanish. And the projection is almost too much. I respect it, but it's not for me. Golden Edition changes precisely this - the leather is turned down a bit and the florals and citruses are amplified, plus a bit of vanilla sweetness is added in the base. It is still clearly old school in style, but much more easy on the nose for both you and your surroundings. I noticed that some people in the reviews claim the exact opposite, and I don't get how that's possible. Clearly this is the modernized (though certainly not modern), slightly smoothed out version.

I also have to agree that the gold edition is a silver medalist compared to the original. That being said, this is one of the best perfumes I have ever smelled. I am a woman and would very happily wear it for formal occassions, in lieu of Shalimar, Habanita, L'Heure Bleue... I wouldn't wear it to seduce men though, I would wear it as a tribute to the man who has seduced me... To my nose Knize is warmer, richer, more luxurious, more complex, exquisite!I cannot imagine why all men do not wear it, it is the absolute men's perfume, if Rick in Casablanca was wearing a perfume it would be Knize Ten. Love!

I Wore Knize Ten yesterday, so thought I would try Knize Ten Golden Edition today. K10 GE is very similar to K10. The opening was a little less floral with a bit more barbershop to my nose. So not as feminine an opening as K10. That is a good thing. The dry down is also similar to K10. I get the same leather vibe, but with smoothed out edges and without the powdery note I get from K10. Projection and longevity are great. If I did not already own K10 I would add a bottle of this... who knows, if I find a good deal on this one I may add it as well.

After stopping production of Cuir cannage by Dior I had to find an alternative heard a lot about Knize 10 the original but never heard of the golden edition so since it’s hard to find it where I live so I had to buy it in my travels and I can definitely say I was very happy with my purchase it’s a harsher more leathery take on Cuir cannage it’s true it wasn’t as good as Demachys masterpiece but surly it was an option to consider if you are a fan of Dior’s discontinued gem Performance was grand projection is ok

Launched at the turn of the millennium to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Knize Ten, the Golden Edition strikes me as a "smoother", polished an civilized version of the original. Slightly reacher in amber, toned down for what concerns the leather. Maybe less compelling than its older brother but still amazing. Could make a fantastic option for anyone who finds the original a tad too challenging. Rating: 9/10

Knize Ten elevated to perfection. A bit smoother, deeper and yet the very same backbone as its older sibling. Performance is stunning. This juice is a statement and a proof that the whole edt vs edp vs extrait vs whatever is judt marketing nonsense. If you wanna make a good, quality and long lasting fragrance, THIS is how its done!

Knize Ten Gold is one of my favourite leathers. It is powerful, long lasting and with a bitter, leathery smell. Very masculine. On my skin Gold is more about leather while the original KT is more about petroleum. Highly recommended.

My next buy, I cannot wait to receive this. My sample from Lucky Sent was amazing. Bottle worthy.

Sampled this juice, together with the original Knize Ten. I think they are very similar, but the golden edition is gentler and more wearable, so that's the version I chose to buy (it's still insanely strong, long lasting and ass-kicking masculine). Smells literally (I mean it!) like a car interior. It's a kind of vanilla leather, not the rubberry smell of new boots or wallet, which I expected. One spritz is enough. Will last till the next ice age.

Knize Ten Golden is more woody and leathery compared to the original. It's missing the fresh florals that give the original it's airy and soapy qualities. Don't get me wrong, I think Knize Ten Golden is good but not great.

Leather, powder, spicy, dry, smoke. Better than the original.

The normal edition of Ten was interesting and not unpleasant but not really for me; unfortunately I seem to find this one actually unpleasant. This iris note is dialled down and the animalic nasty leather note is dialled up. It takes a while for that to get out of the way and for an amber note to come through. This may appeal to you, but I think there are nicer leather notes and nicer amber notes out there.

Warning this is not for everyone , one of those weird frags that only a few select will like . It is a lady killer as in it will literally kill them from stank. smells like u just sprayed bug killer on a piece of thick leather. ok now i gotta go shower.

They should call this Knize Ten - Gold Toilet Water from random men. I get an overwhelming auto mechanic garage smell on top. If this kind of scent is what you're looking for, it does it VERY well. Its notes are bold and pure.

Both OG and the Golden Edition are very similar with the later has some freshness. After an hour both smell similar to YSL Korous... way too animalic and too much castoreum ... not for me ^No Wars - Free Palestine^

Oh no! This is not for me. Leather, carnation and civet. Very old-fashioned. Best suited for men 50+, definitely try before you buy. I can still see The beauty of it, but it is just too balsamic. Not for newbees!

Rough, dry, smoky, spicy leather. Powdery too. Zero sweetness. Smells old school. This stuff is powerful. You can choke someone out if you overspray. Not for me.

Finally got myself a bottle of this famous fragrance. I went with the gold edition because apparently its not as in your face as the original and also it was a blind buy so I thought I would play it safe. Holy sh.. this should come with a warning, no,it should never be sold ever again it has to be the worst thing in my life that I have ever come across, I sprayed it onto my neck I thought I was being gassed the smell was horrendous I tried to man it out but after 5 minutes it was as if it was getting stronger and I was honestly finding it hard to breathe I jumped straight into the shower and scrubbed myself for 10 minute's and im sat here an hr afterwards writing this and I can still smell it coming through my ACDD that I've blasted everywhere. I can't have this stuff near me, I've ordered a small lead box that the offending liquid will be placed that will then go into a safe where upon I will drive to a secluded spot and bury it 6 feet deep. Seriously, DON'T BLIND BUY. UPDATE; I've dug it up and it has grown on me. This is definitely your 1st olive moment you hate it and you hate it then all of a sudden you pop one into your mouth and its heaven.

It's quite a comedown from the glorious original Knize Ten. Basically they have stripped nearly all the floral's, citrus freshness, complexity and cut way back on the powder. And you get the leather front and centre with what smells like talc on top and this stays with you for a good while. Like the original the leather fades but instead of been left with the beautiful floral basenotes the slightly sweet talc aspect becomes more prominent. It still smells great and if you do not care for the fresh powdery floral aspect of the original and just want the leather then this one will make you happy. The original Knize Ten is like going to a concert and enjoying a orchestra playing complex musical compositions. Where as the Gold Edition is like going to your local pub/bar and listening to a talented karaoke singer. lol So all in all it comes down to whether you want the whole show with the leather, floral's and complexity. Or you just want the leather and talc as it is a bit more masculine.

It is hard to review this without comparing it to the original Knize Ten, but this really can stand alone as a SUPERB leather fragrance in its own right. It opens with a soft bitter leather aroma, under which is just a hint of dubbin or polish (but far softer than in the original Knize Ten, and never quite reaching that "petrol" note which is so powerful there). There are warm amber notes and a softly growling animalic tone, which stays as a growl and never becomes a roar...and this combines with slightly sweet geranium and jasmine to give a perfect contrast to the macho leather and castoreum. Sillage and longevity are both excellent and this is quite a versatile scent: equally at home in the office or on a night out. If you are a hard-core leatherhead who craves greasy black leather and gasoline then go for original Knize Ten....if you want a softer, smoother, more sophisticated leather which is every bit as masculine, the choose KT Golden Edition.

This has grown on me and maybe I will be able to wear when old. At first I got something reminiscent of azzaro pour homme or hugo boss pour homme(yellow), but with more of a aldehydic and animalistic feel. I think this is underappreciated,masculine, unique and quality. I get 4 to 7 hours and weak projection. The price is simply too high for the concentration. Make it a parfum and up the price 30 dollars and get more customers . I just dont think people my age around me will appreciate this smell. It is strong,mysterious and even dangerous, but not loud or overbearing. This could be seductive One of the best modern edgy fragrances using old school notes and inspiration. I recommend a sniff for the 30 plus men YSL Y's older and much better composed Father

OK, now it got me. Rich, powerful and classic yet modern. That's how I would basically describe Knize Ten Golden Edition. Opens up with a punch of aldehydes with leather in the background. Then it changes, minute after minute into leathery super rich chypre. What is most detectable to me are: leather, carnation, aldehydes. Beautiful. Be careful, when oversprayed not only it becomes cloying. It also starts leaning into feminine. I go with one spray on the front of the neck and it's okay. Longevity is over 10 hours. Sillage is quite big. I'm glad I decided to pull the trigger and give Knize Ten Golden Edition a chance.

The golden edition seems like a simplied and stripped back version of the original. The burnt rubber smell is pronounced but the lingering floral seems to have dialled right back into the background. Those that find the original too floral should check this out. Otherwise, stick with the original. I find the original much more complex and better balanced. The golden edition feels somewhat screechy towards the drydown as only the rubber and tobacco notes remain. Sillage is on par with the original. However, the original Knize Ten, in all its glory, still reigns supreme. Original: 10/10 Golden Edition: 8.5/10

Knize 10 * Golden is the superior leather scent. The original being sold today is not nearly as long lasting or potent as people will lead you to believe. I've actually thrown away a 50ml after I realized it. If you do like the original better I recommend that you try Serge Lutens Cuir M. It has a similar type of leather note but performs much better. There are a few other scents that have a similar leather as well. They may not have the same structure as K10 but better all around performers. As fas as I am concerned K10 Golden is a masterpiece.

RAMPED UP KNIZE 10 ORIGINAL Others seem to think the opposite - but I tested both side by side (one on each arm), and made sure I double checked the sample vials - and for me, 'gold' was stronger (grease/leather/oil) and a bit less refined. Might be a batch issue. Lasted much longer than the original. And more projection. If I had to buy today, I'd buy the original. 'Gold' is more challenging. Original easier to wear, and a bit more elegant.

This review is based on a decant. Like many have said, this is a smoother and rounder version of original with a tinge of sweetness to my nose. The original is dry and dusty. Performance is on pair on my skin with the original with moderate projection and good longevity. While I enjoy wearing both versions, I prefer this just a tiny bit better. For any classic birch-tar based leather scent lover, definitely give both versions a try.

Class, quality: perfect for a real gentleman. Difficult to find in the normal stores, and that's one of the reason why I bough it immediately when by accident I found it. Longevity: 12hours Projection: 8 hours The Golden version is absolutely with better longevity and projection than the classic version. On my skin stay for 12 hours and on the clothes more than 1 day. I really like also Knize Sec. A gem in the massy market.

Did not like the oily rag accord on first wearing but after further wearings and parking that association to one side I think of this as highly balsamic leather and really like it. I am surprised "balsamic" does not get listed in main accords here.

Wonderful perfume, we love this one so much...very long lasting leather perfume for men and ladies can wear it too...
