I received a manufacturers sample as a gift with an order. I had no idea about the brand, the perfume, the notes, nothing, I went in blind. Seeing as there were no ratings or reviews I thought I'd have a go writing a few words based on a sample wearing. I am surprised aldehydes aren't listed, as the opening felt aldehydic to me, in fact it reminded me quite a lot of the opening to Arpege. This isn't an issue, I love Arpege, but I would have sworn there was something aldehydic going on! There is also an animalic, though not especially dirty note in the opening, kind of cleanish, animalic salty leathery note, which must be the ambergris combined with the clove. Clove can sometimes be a tricky note for me, but not so here, and the animalic slightly dark bitter edge settled. pretty quickly. The jasmine comes in pretty soon after, a big bold clean white non indolic jasmine, and a soft tuberose, another tricky note for me, but here it is tamed and supports the big floral note but doesn't dominate. The musk is a big light bright musk, that is radiant when combined with the clean white flowers, creating a really almost luminous white feminine aura, yet juxtaposed against the salty ambergris and the clove note, again, with an almost creamy leather feel to it, almost, though not quite veering towards a cabochard type feel. This feels quite "80's" to me - that isn't an insult btw, it just has that kind of feel and the box packaging for the manufacturers sample gives the same impression. Over time the notes became more blended, the ambergris and clove settling and fading into the background with a very faint sandalwood and coriander appearing in the late middle. The white flowers quieten down to create a creamy, feel, not too heavy and the clean musk becomes the main player once more. In the end of the drydown I am left with a soft musk with soft clean jasmine. I like this. Not sure I would go for a full bottle, but I want to test it out some more, so its obviously caught my attention somewhat. Now I have looked at the notes and can see - ah so thats what that was, thats where that came in - I will probably get a better feel and can update my review. Projection was pretty big for the first couple of hours, about 4-5 feet, and this slowly moves closer to skin throughout its duration. This lasted a good 8 hours on me before becoming a skin scent on a mild evening.
