Good Fir 11

Rant: Krigler has gutted this perfume...they completely changed it from a sparkling, beautiful coniferous perfume to a tepid banana water afterthought. To even call this new version they've created, Good Fir 11 is not only misleading, it is completely inaccurate. There is none, zip, nadda, zero fir, pine, spruce, or anything else resembling a coniferous smell in this new version. They should have retired Good Fir 11 and called this new perfume something completely different, because it is nothing like their actual Good Fir 11 perfume. Now that I've got that off my chest, here is my January 2016 review of the real Good Fir 11 perfume created by Krigler, which was a classic perfume of the highest order in my book. January 2016: I've been a lover of pine scents all of my life. My first pine scent was the original Polo green. I started wearing it in about 1983 or 1984. I loved the scent and was sad when it lost much of it's pine appeal and became more of an alcohol based scent. I heard about Good Fir 11 and liked what I was hearing about it's clarity, freshness, and pineyness. I tried to get a sample, but was told that the scent had been vaulted, so I bit the bullet and got one of their last bottles out of the vault. I wore the Good Fir 11 for the first time a few weeks ago. I was a bit startled by the turpentine exuberance in the opening. I also noticed a smell in the first hour or so after application that I couldn't quite put my nose on. I finally figured it out, and it seemed to be a slight hint of urine. I kept my objectivity and allowed the scent to dry, to experience all of it's characteristics. As the day went on, I noticed that the Good Fir 11 had a sweet smell that increased with the dry down. By the end of the day, I was still trying to figure out what I thought about this fragrance. I decided to wear in again on Friday and enjoyed the mixture of pine, vetiver, etc. The turpentine, and the slight urine smell didn't show up at all with the second wearing of this cologne. I enjoyed each phase and change. As I mentioned, it gets much sweeter in the dry down. In fact, it smells a bit like pine scented smarties candies. I mean the American version of smarties, which are tart, powder based candies, as opposed to the M&M type chocolate candy that the United Kingdom and Canada are used to. I am enjoying this perfume, and would recommend that anyone who has any desire to wear this scent had better contact Krigler to see if there's anything left to buy. Don't let my comments of urine turn you away. I know this fragrance is distilled for a long period of time, and I believe the initial turpentine/urine smell is a by product of that distilling process, but as I mentioned, I didn't even notice it on my second wearing. I will be enjoying this scent for many years to come. It is very nice addition, and I'm glad to have it in my collection. A slight addition to my review. I took one of the coats out of the closet today that I had worn the last time I wore the Good Fir 11 and it smelled amazing! A very sweet, pine filled fragrance.

Very very well balanced fragrance with strong soul. It starts with pine (fir) notes but simultaneously enhanced by oily olibanum. However not listed but for sure there is plenty of vanilla present but not gourmand rather the dry and spicy one that together with vetiver and musk create woody smell. Good Fir develops very slowly however consequently it's face to sweeter fragrance but than, after 1-2 hours it jumps to the opposite site - starts to be extremely dry, like sand burned by sun. I like this moments of changing because they are so prominent and unusual, completely different than everything what I know from the perfumery world. I can easily recommend the GF to every incense lovers who is a little bit directed to the sweeter fragrances. GF is very expensive but believe me it is worth every penny to spend for such amazing perfume. It lasts long time on your skin but it's projection and silage is not extremely big. Nevertheless it is something big and it's name should be described using bold fonts in the perfume history because GF was created in 1911 it means that every fir, resinous fragrances both good one or bad one are reinterpretations of the Good Fir only.

Very important to note that this was reformulated at the beginning of 2022, according to Krigler. It is a completely different scent than the previous iteration and smells more like a fruity body wash than fir or pine. Quite disappointed with the new version unfortunately, there is little resemblance to the old perfume- I had received a sample from a friend years ago and when I finally got around to buying a bottle it was not as expected. Following is a correspondence from a Krigler representative about the new changes: "Good Fir 11 version 2022 is a new production as there were some ingredients that were impossible to gather anymore due to the new regulations. This version is a different version with notes of Pink Pepper / Bitter Orange / Banana Leaf / Tuberose / Porcelain Rose / Ginger / Nutmeg / Vetiver / Tobacco / Mineral / Moss / White Musk." "This scent has now a mix of notes such as Banana Leaf, Bitter Orange, and Pink Pepper as there is now a fruity touch to the perfume. There is still the important note of vetiver and tobacco and Moss. This version is the new classic perfume as the other one couldn't be made anymore."

Good Fir 11 is for those who love the smell of fir/pine trees. I absolutely love fir and pine, so the discovery of this wonderful gem was such a treasured moment for me. It honestly took me two wears to appreciate this fragrance fully, but it is now cemented as one of my all time favorite fragrances. The coniferous aspect of Good Fir 11 is clear, fresh, and sweet. In fact, Good Fir 11 becomes sweeter over the course of the wear. This fragrance also has excellent longevity and sillage. It is an EDP that lives up to the EDP billing. One of the things I love is when I pull my coat out of the closet a month after I've worn GF 11, and find the sweet, fir smell still on my coat. It always brings a smile to my face. This wonderful fragrance is at the top of my personal list for fresh, pine/fir fragrances...there's nothing else like it!

Again, I'd say it is a unisex fragrance. It will bring you into mysterious pine forest - it's late summer or early autumn, sun is shining throught the dark pine needles, you can hear the voices of a tribe singing ritual songs and smell burning incences in the air, and suddenly you become a part of it with every single cell. This fragrance has something transparent in it, something very positive and cosy. Absolutely love it!

One of the best fresh pine scents. Perfect for summer days. After a very pleasant crispy fresh pine opening you start smelling fresh pine, earthy, citrusy, mossy musky notes that create an aroma of a pine forest morning with dew on grassy ground. This enchantment stays for 6 hrs at least. But you pay a LOT for the good vibes. Now this is a scent I want a 1:1 copy for $20! Scent 9/10 Sillage 7/10 Longevity 8/10 Value 6/10

Great fragrance, unisex. It reminds me of winter season because of the prominent pine note. It'd be perfect for Christmas, but it's wearable during other seasons and occasions as well. The scent reminds me of the Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy Joyful scent from a couple of years ago, which is one of my top 10 favorite BBW scents that I can't get enough of - it's not the same but quite close.

Notes per Krigler: Pink Pepper / Bitter Orange / Banana Leaf / Tuberose / Porcelain Rose / Ginger / Nutmeg / Aquatic Note / Vetiver / Tobacco / Mineral / Moss / White Musk I love this fragrance so much, unique way of doing an aquatic/banana leaf scent that is so fresh and elegant. It’s sweet on my skin, the tuberose moss and musk develops really well.

This new reformulation is still a delight it leans more unisex now but the base notes still lean more masculine. It’s everyday scent for me because it’s fresh woody and slightly fruity and too in your face with the projection and won’t get overpowered by other scents when out and about.

I had a sample of this that I coveted for some time. It's the finest pine based fragrance I've encountered. The pine scent is clear and up front without being harsh or astringent. It comes off as a soft, slightly sweet pine thats incredibly pleasant to wear.

I've got a little quantity from a friend to try it. First of all,let me speak about efficiency:stayng power is a good 8 hours on me,sillage moderate,little trail. The fragrance has a very piney eucalyptus character with a near candy sweetness,but in a good way. I have some "piney" scent,but they are very differents,from the sour Eau de 4 Voleurs to the ultra incensed Dubrana's (Attar Salaam) Aalacho 2. Good Fir is not sour or not over incensed,but is very fresh,resinous and sweet. If you know BPAL it could be something like a Black Forest-Dracul mix. A simple fragrance,but addictive with an outstanding performance.(For a niche Parfume)

I tried a sample of the old formula and I was in love - The most satisfying pine scent I have ever experienced, for true pine lovers. I had been waiting for a time to be able to afford a fb, then I read that it had been reformulated significantly. I hope people can comment more on the reformulation. Fragrance Review For Good Fir 11 Krigler Notes Pine Vetiver Incense Musk Hard to believe this fragrance dates from 1911. This is exquisite. Smells of a warm wintery unisex cologne, and in fact, it can turn masculine on women because of the heavy fir and pine and the big green vetiver. It's definitely a Christmas fragrance because it does smell of Christmas tree. It smells of those sites you go to buy Christmas tree where a lot of Christmas trees are put together in the same place. The scent of fir fills the air, pine needles and green notes. The vetiver is dominant in the dry down which is not long to get to as this scent is linear and very easy to wear. This is an outdoorsy pine forest aroma and it gradually turns warmer and smokier, balsamic, resinous, and smoky with incense. Good Fir is true to it's name. It's a fir fragrance which marries green notes with musk and myrrh. The scent evolves quickly. As it opens in the first spritz one can pick out the notes that make up the scent and within a few minutes it's a beautiful Christmas pine tree forest. The vetiver is quite nice and gives it that realistic forest scent with green notes of grass and pine needles fir and bark. There's no florals or fruit so the scent does not come off as being fresh. It's dry and dark, deep, warm, wintery. The aromatic greenery of pine is one of the loveliest I've experienced. Finally the scent is also as much about the incense and frankincense as it is the fir and pine tree. This is a warm and rather airy incense, like puffs of incense that waft through the air and fall gracefully onto your nostrils like censers or Christmas Mass cathedral incense. The scent is not as religious as incense would itself imply. Instead it's mostly green and woodsy a pine and fir scent of natural beauty. This is linear but for whatever reason it lasts a good long time and has good projection/sillage. This is wearable in the winter months and makes a good unisex fragrance to wear with coats boots and winter clothing in layers. This is unisex and men can rock this cologne as well as women. It is for a mature crowd who can easily wear the Krigler line perfumes which do come off as being sophisticated and mature. A beautiful Christmas fir tree Merry Christmas

Anymore it’s truly unusual that I am afforded the experience of an entirely new profile, feeling, or transportation in this fragrance journey. Good Fir provided all of them. It defies many of the perceived “laws” of perfumery. In part, that statement is rooted in how different what I smell on skin is from what I detect in the air. In another part, it’s that the main premise actually behaves as part of the supporting cast. Perhaps most importantly is its ability to dance, whisper, return, float, breathe, yet never settle, almost as if it’s a living being of its own. As I sprayed, nothing jumped out at me like often does at the atomizer. As much as I’m one for mystery in fragrance, the name contrasted with the opening, had me asking, ”Where is the wood?”. What comes out rather is a felt or suede-like textured sweetness. On one side, it’s a toned down smarties (US version of the candy not UK) powdery sweetness. On the other, a clay-like smoothness adds to a soft earthiness. As I started to move about my day, the sporadic waft of wood appeared. This was a waft as elusive as that of a freshly sharpened pencil from across a classroom. The most magical moments came as people walked past me providing a delicate “turbulence”. The delicate woods came, went, and only revisited at their leisure. All the while, the sweetness-kissed earthiness played the main role. Perhaps the part that intrigued me the most was that Good Fir had a stronger sense of setting rather than scent. Put differently, the strongest element of the fragrance was that it took me to a “memory” of a specific place and time that I have never been before. That is the muffled movie-like memory of an old one room schoolhouse. Cool but not cold, nothing distinctly presents itself in any particular order yet it’s grounded. For those select moments I ask fragrance to move me to a contemplative or reflective mood, Krigler’s Good Fir joins Creed’s Green Valley and Royal Ceylan in being the transport.

Pricey but a well done woodsy pine fresh scent. Leans more masculine then Fem. but not out of the realm for a woman, it is a masculine I like to wear. Nice sillage and beast mode last. Pricey - but Kriglers are. I have smelled others similar and perhaps even more inventive...so unless you specifically want a Krigler in your collection put it on the list and continue to explore. It is a brisk walk on an early fall day through a heavily wooded pine forest. Just a delight.

I agree this is wonderful stuff. Coniferous and piney without getting pine-sol like with a delicious, cozy, woody warmth at its heart. It's very difficult to imagine this was released in 1911. I imagine the original was quite different as it wears like the most modern of niche creations. A real beauty.

I actually love the new formulation, whoops!! Such an easy wear, any season. Fresh enough, with a backbone that'll stand up to colder weather.
